This volume was better than the first. Here, the author explores a bit more about the world of the elves.uch of it concerns the question "what does it mean to be a human", and there isn't much new here that wasn't done in the past. That said, there are some great scenes (like with the king of the spirits) and tableau that showed more of the elven world without taking away it's mystery.

More like 2.5 stars or 5 out of 10 stars.

The book is merely average. The pacing is poor. The art is great. The plot generic and uninspiring.

Doesn’t feel like an epic of grand proportions.

Like the first volume of the series the 2nd book says it is rated for all ages but I would suggest you check it out yourself before letting any younger people from reading this book. After all it is set in a time of conflict and there is at least one scene where an elf gets slashed. It is also from a time when companies were figuring out how to flip a Japanese style graphic novel so an English reader can read it like a regular comic. Depending on what book you get the pages are not always cut just right and some times it might read a little strange.

Trying to get away from the Marmo army everyone is surrounded with the exception of the Forest of no Return which affects any who enter it that are not of elven blood will fall into a magical sleep. Deedlit wishing to help and not wanting Parn to sleep forever as they try to save the villagers goes to her homeland to petition the curse that surrounds the forest be lifted. With the half elf girl Lief coming along Deedlit does whatever she must to save the humans and her friends. We also get to see not only a flashback of Deedlit's past before the main Lodoss War story as well as more details of the sorcerer from Kastoll in the last volume.

My favorite part of this book is when the villagers, afraid of entering the Forest of No Return, instead begin hoping the approaching enemy forces might offer them Mercy but Parn knows better. Unable to see the Marmo forces make examples of everyone he was trying to save he throws down a dagger and tells them the Marmo forces will offer them no hope so he offered them a chance to kill themselves or if they cannot he will kill them mercifully so they do not suffer at the Marmo hands. For being the love interest to Deedlit Parn has some great scenes. :)
