I joined an industry group last year, and the mode of communication was Slack. I'd never used it before, and I was utterly confused. So I was extremely happy to see Slack for Dummies!
I had read other Dummies books, so I knew I could easily search for terms and get quick knowledge. I started with Chapter 5, Staying Informed with Notifications, Statuses and Feeds, since notification settings baffled me. The author explained everything in a way that made more sense than any YouTube video I'd watched. I now have my notifications set so that I don't miss anything, but am not constantly alerted to every activity.
I then moved on to Chapter 16, Ten Great Slack Tips, because who doesn't love a top 10 list? Well, I got more helpful information like how to change your status and availability. This was crucial while I was working on an important project earlier this week.
I will continue to read sections as needs pop up, and I'll eventually read the whole book because I know this will become a constant resource for me as I navigate the Slack waters.
If you're looking to learn how to use Slack, this book is an excellent choice.
Even though I've moved on to Discord, I used to use Slack daily and I can attest to the helpfulness of the tips and tricks shared in this book.
The author, Simon, does an outstanding job of explaining the Slack ecosystem and providing actionable advice for getting the most out of it.
I was particularly impressed with Slack's API, which is covered in detail in the book - even though I use Discord daily now, I really miss Slack's ecosystem compared to Discord.
While I may have switched to Discord, I still highly recommend Slack for Dummies to anyone looking to improve their collaboration and communication skills.
The only downside is that the book may become outdated as Slack continues to evolve and new features are added, but for now it's a great resource.
