Audiobook read. Sweet forbidden love.

Meghan is engaged to Lachie and is in love with the dream of having everything he can offer. He has a loving family, money and stable life. When she moves to Brigadier Station in outback Queensland she realises there is something he loves more than her fiancé. Lachie's younger brother is everything she ever wanted in a partner and everything she needs to forget about. Her fiancé flaws become more apparent as she sees the future she wishes she has with his brother.

This is a sweet romance, with a beautiful setting. Watching the forbidden love grow shows how love can defeat all obstacles. This is a cute story.

This book took me a little while to get into it, however, was worth it. The narrator's voice fits nicely with the story and you can almost image him as Darcy (The brother).

The relationship between Lachie and Meghan isn't featured in this book very much. There is no sense of feelings for him as a reader. Darcy is our one and only true guy.

4.5 star out of 5.

This was an easy reading little book that was ok for what it was, but felt rather basic, all the way through.

Meghan is a vet nurse in Townsville who has just made up her mind to get engaged to Lachie, the heir to Brigadier station out in the middle of the drought struck nowhere. On her first visit to the station, where she meets her fiance's mother and brother, their wedding is announced and starts being planned. Meghan is increasingly attracted to the brother, Darcy who is attracted to her and eventually she cancels the wedding because she is in love with the wrong brother. There is a happy ending.

If you think that my description is unenthusiastic and lackluster, you are right and that is how I felt about the reading experience. If you think it seems formulaic and superficial, you are right it was.

I feel like the author could have made some effort, however minimal, to convince us that Meghan and Lachie were a thing. Instead as a reader, I could see absolutely no reason for them to be even casually dating, engaged to be married was bewilderingly inconceivable. I know people do get engaged to people they do not know, who they have nothing in common with, but it feels inexcusably lazy for an author to just give up on any attempt to create chemistry between the characters. If you are going to have an engaged couple who have no interest at all in each other, give us another reason for them to be engaged; a fortune, missing connection to family property, desperate need to escape or breed an heir something, ANYTHING would do.

This complete nullity of Meghan and Lachie makes the marriage daft, but it also takes any tension out of the story line. Because how can you feel any emotive connection to Meghan dumping her fiance when Meghan herself has no emotive connection to him? Why bother with the 'engaged to wrong brother' theme, if you can't be bothered to develop the engagement? Also Lachie barely makes a single appearance in the story line, he is not even two dimensional, he is absent and if this is a #1 book that means he will probably be the #2 for his turn at lurve, which I absolutely cannot face! The man (from the little we see of him) is a complete dick and even had the writers skills impressed me more than they did, there is no way I want to suffer through any attempt at using him as a main character.

And, about those skills. Sorry, but they are beyond basic. This read like a school girls essay, the writing is simple, straightforward and while not, actively bad, it is pretty bland. The writing could not compensate for the lack of story, dialogue or character development, in fact they were much of a muchness.

I did not hate this story, it was ok, but it was very superficial and uneasily basic. The fact that the author self publishes (I checked her profile) really comes though in that interacting with publishers and professional proof readers would probably have coaxed a bit more complexity into the writing, maybe also, more believably into the plot. In any case - all the best to her and if anyone likes really basic romance-y stories this book may well be for them. It is an incredibly short read, I was done with it in a few hours. Is it meant to be YA perhaps? It doesn't say it is YA....

Easy to read this book was a lovely representation of the Queensland Outback. I love Darcy and I secretly hope he gets a second book. It was great that part of the book was set in Townsville as I'm familiar with the area. I really hope Sarah Williams keeps writing because reading The Brothers of Brigadier Station was a great way to spend my afternoon.

I was excited to get me an outback romance. I was excited to hear the various inflections and pitches with the Aussie accent.

Meghan had me from the beginning. She was a country girl born, but a city girl raised looking to find her way back to the country she loved at one time. She finds that in her fiancé, but wasn't expecting it in her her fiancé's younger brother. Darcy was more than Lucky from the start for me. Lucky once back home was distant and a bit obtuse.

I enjoyed the story but the narration took me a while to get with. Almost all of the characters all sounded the same. The distinctions between male and female was hard. The clarity of who was who was almost none existing. The story earned a reader but the audio did not add anything to it for me.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Sarah Williams. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

The Brothers of Brigadier Station is the debut Rural Romance by North Queensland author, Sarah Williams. I always love to read a novel written by a fellow Queenslander, particularly if that novel is set in a location I’m familiar with, which this one is, since I currently live in the North West Queensland outback.
Sarah Williams has done a great job with her depiction of Country life. There is a particular focus on the harshness of drought, with great detail on the effects on the economy and livelihoods of rural residents and land owners, as well as the environmental impact and the changing landscape. I liked how Sarah didn’t shy away from telling it like it is; the selling up of properties to overseas investors and landowners being forced to kill their animals as a means of preventing their extended suffering as they slowly died from starvation. Novels that paint such an accurate picture are so valuable to our Australian literary scene. Life in truly remote areas is largely inaccessible for many Australians, who then get their impressions on what life must be like from the media and other forms of entertainment. I applaud Sarah for depicting this so well, as impressions of the country and country life are all too often not that accurate.
Likewise, the role of women on the land is represented well within this novel. Meghan, the main character, makes an observation on the lives of women that is quite telling and a great piece of writing from Sarah. She muses on the different demands placed onto a woman’s time, particularly if you live so remote that your children can’t even attend school every day. It certainly is a different kind of life, and I like that Sarah didn’t romanticise it. Once again, she told it like it is and let the truth speak for itself.
In terms of Meghan, the main character, I was in two minds about her for the entire novel. I found it interesting how Sarah explored the notion of her falling in love with the country way of life, more than her actual fiancé. I can see this happening in many cases, particularly when a person is searching for something they feel is missing from their life or if they don’t feel any strong attachments to a place because they no longer have any family of their own around. For Meghan, she wanted what Lachie could offer her more than she wanted Lachie, it just wasn’t all that obvious to her from the outset.
The relationship between Meghan and Lachie was not executed all that well, and I feel the novel suffered slightly because of it. There just didn’t seem to be any bond between them and there was very little couple interaction at all. Lachie was immediately depicted as uncouth and selfish, which seemed odd because if that was his regular personality, then surely Meghan would never have gone out with him in the first place. His change in personality seemed a little too convenient, more of a catalyst to pave the way for Darcy, who by comparison, was entirely perfect. Meghan’s immediate attraction to Darcy is not a character strength. It made her seem disingenuous right off the bat and I found it hard to believe that any woman would be so affectionate with her future brother in law, particularly when meeting him for the first time. Kissing cheeks, hugging, touching scars, flirty banter; this was red flag raising for me and consequently, did little in the way of enticing me to like her.
In terms of Darcy, he was a very likeable character. I took great interest in all of the descriptions of camp drafting and life on the land from his point of view, and once again, Sarah’s interest in what she was writing shone through. She has a great way of weaving this into the narrative without it sounding too descriptive.
Given that this novel was so very Australian, I felt disappointed that US spelling was used throughout. Reading Mom, instead of Mum, constantly pulled me out of the story, diminishing the authenticity that Sarah had clearly worked so hard to achieve. The local feel was compromised, and people driving around in trucks instead of Utes likewise affected the authenticity of this Australian rural story. I feel that whoever advised Sarah to do this has done her a disservice. Our media is saturated enough with US speak and US culture, to dilute our own in order to cater for the US market just makes me feel disappointed and quite frankly, more than a little annoyed as well. If a reader from the US wants to read a story about the Australian outback, then surely they would appreciate the greater authenticity that having Australian language would lend to the story? Personally, I have no problem with reading US language, providing it is within setting and context. Sadly, this gives the impression that The Brothers of Brigadier Station has been written by a US author.
The Brothers of Brigadier Station is indicated as being the first in a series about these brothers. Congratulations to Sarah Williams on her debut.

AUDIOBOOK The Brothers of Brigadier Station
Narrated by Myles Pollard
description
Wow! I would never have believed that I would say this, but I enjoyed and loved this Audiobook more than reading the book myself. That is saying something as I really love the book the first time a read it, as it was the first time I had read anything by Sarah Williams before. I am not a big fan of Audiobooks, I have listened to a few before, but didn’t find them as satisfying a reading. I believe it because you get your own picture in your head of the characters and how they may sound so consequently when listening to someone else read the story I am unable to fully engage with the character. But saying all this I must say that Myles Pollard nails this story and characters in such a way that even though I had only just read this book a few months ago it felt like I was hearing this story for the first time. I can not remember the last time I read a book, a second time, even though I did not technology read this book, but listen to it to the very end while still enjoying every word.

The author could not have picked a better person to read this very heartwarming Australian romance in my opinion. The pitch, tone, flow, speed and passion in Myles's voice was mesmerising, it had me so engrossed in the story he was telling. Each character has its own individual voice, I really loved the voice used for Darcy it's very Australian and it's very much how I already had in my mind for him.

I gave my first review of this book a 4 star, but I will be happy to increase accordingly to a 5 star for this wonderful Audiobook version as the story was brought to life more for me with Myles reading of it. I happily listen to this audiobook over a few nights where it had a calming and mesmerising effect on me by the narrator's voice. Brigadier Station comes alive in a way that I could feel and smell the dust, dirt and animals just as Meghan did.

This is how I believed Audiobooks would be like, they should bring the story to life and have you emerged into the characters of the books with each an every inspiring word the author has written through the voice of a narrator. But until I listened to this very book I had not experienced that total feeling of living the story along with the narrator. This version brings out the brilliant story that Sarah Williams has given us in the first place to a whole new level of entertainment and enjoyment. Well-done to first the wonderful Australian story and again for picking the best Australian voice and person to narrate it for you. I would highly recommend this audiobook even if you have never listened to one before or if you have read this book before.

The start of my first review of the ebook version:-
“Will she marry the right man, for the right reasons?”  If a bride has to ask herself this question I believe she is already in trouble.  We meet Meghan and Lachlan just after that have gotten engaged and Meghan is taking her two weeks holidays from her vet nursing job to visit Brigadier Station, Lachlan’s home and soon to be hers.
What would you do if you visited you fiancé’s home to find out you will spend more time with his younger brother than your fiancé as he was just too busy to spend time with you?

The Brothers of Brigadier Station by Sarah Williams was such a delightful and refreshing read. What really stood out to me was how natural the dynamics between the main characters felt. Darcy’s quiet, gradual fall for Meghan is beautifully written: subtle, emotional, and genuinely swoon-worthy. Watching his feelings grow without being rushed made their connection feel authentic and deeply satisfying.

The setting plays a huge role in the charm of this story. The Australian outback offers a welcome change of scenery from the more familiar American or Canadian cowboy romances (not that I ever mind those). It gives the book a unique atmosphere while still delivering all the small-town, cowboy romance vibes I love. Add in the forbidden romance element and the classic city-girl-meets-cowboy trope, and it’s a combination that works incredibly well.

This was a quick, fun, and lighthearted read. Exactly what I needed at the moment. It doesn’t try to be overly heavy or dramatic, but instead delivers a cozy, engaging romance that’s easy to get lost in. The audiobook experience was also enhanced by having an Australian narrator, which made the setting feel even more immersive and authentic.

The story is told in third-person POV. While I personally prefer dual POV in romance, that’s very much a matter of taste and didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book.

Overall, The Brothers of Brigadier Station is a charming, feel-good romance with great chemistry, a refreshing setting, and plenty of swoon. Perfect if you’re in the mood for a light, comforting read with a unique outback twist.

Genuinely an entertaining read. The author has crafted an easy to read story with appealing characters. Set in rural Australia the authors description of the countryside enables the reader to feel like they are on an outback property. It feels like the author has experience with the setting and this entices the reader even more.

The relationship between the two main characters is complicated and intriguing. The reader wants to know more about Megan and Darcy and his family. You cheer the heroine on and sob when things don't go to plan.

I throughly enjoyed this read and hope the author plans for more in the series.

Perfect light summer read! I read the Christmas one first but love how these characters develop in the story. This was a perfect nice light read with a few twists and turns to keep me interested even though I knew the ending loved how it got there. Looking forward to the other two books in this series.

Romance blooms in western Queensland. Rural Romance is not a genre I usually read so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my foray into the country. While it sounds pretty dusty & desolate out west the lifestyle as described by Sarah Williams captured my imagination. Meghan Flanagan is looking for a new start, romance & to become once again a part of a family. Throw in two handsome brothers & their hospitable mother & Meghan’s future seems rosy. But is it?

There is nothing like the K.I.S. principle. Sarah has certainly kept the ancient love triangle simple, however don't be deceived. She adds a slight and rosy flourish that will leave you with the question, "When is the sequel coming out?"

Love how Sarah has captured the essence of the Australian outback. As a teenager, I spent a little time on a sheep station in the outback and she has described the lifestyle and people perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyed reading Meghan and Darcy's story. Was so enthralled, I couldn't put it down. Have purchased the rest in the series and can't wait to see how the stories unfold from here.

Meghan Flanagan, a vet nurse in Townsville, Australia, becomes part of a love triangle. She is engaged to Lachlan “Lachie” McGuire, owner of a station in the outback of Northwest Queensland. When she goes there for two weeks, she meets Lachie’s brother, Darcy. There is an instant attraction between Meghan and Darcy, but of course nothing can happen because she’s engaged to Lachie. Darcy seems to be a more responsible and caring person than Lachie, but Meghan is still engaged to Lachie. Meghan loves the outback and she especially loves the horses, but she has to choose which man is the right one for her…or if either one is the right one. The day of her wedding arrives and she still isn’t sure. Eventually Meghan chooses the right man for the right reasons. This isn’t my regular genre of story, but, overall, I enjoyed this story. I just didn’t like to see Meghan and Lachie sleeping together. I loved Lachie and Darcy’s mother, Harriet. She is so loving and kind and welcomed Meghan like a daughter. You learn a little bit about the boys’ father, Daniel, who is deceased. Because Lachie was the heir, Daniel was kinder to him and treated him better than he did his other sons. The author has given wonderful descriptions of the land in the outback, the drought, the animals, the people, and camp drafting. I received an advanced reader copy of this book. The opinions are my own.

This series is my first read by this author and I enjoyed all three books. I like the casual writing style blended with the good choice of characters and the interesting storylines. I always love when I can find a writer that transports me to their country as if I'm there in person. The fact this series is set in Australia grabbed my interest. The culture and customs and livestyles of this part of Oz was interesting.

The Brothers of Brigadier Station #1 - The story of Lachlan and Meghan and his brother Darcy, which also builds the history and foundation of Brigadier Station and the McGuire family. 4*

The Sky Over Brigadier Station #2 - With Meghan's wedding approaching, brother Noah is unwilling returning to Brigadier Station after leaving ten years previously. This is his and Riley's story, which shares more of the McGuire past. I find the work of Australia's stations interesting, just as I do about American ranches, but was intrigued about another job that is not commonly written about in either country. 4*

The Legacies of Brigadier Station #3 - This story starts almost eleven months after Sky ends. It is Abbie's turn to find a McGuire to love. This is my favorite of the series, where a lot of the past, the present and the future come together. Terrible things happen, but so do many wonderful things.

While all these books can be read on their own, start with the first story and see the McGuire history unfold. 5*

Fun romp thru the Australian Outback ranch. Cattle stations Meghan and Darcy were meant to be. She’s a vet assistant. Even tho she moved to Station to be with older brother Lachie who is really an alcoholic. Meghan and. Darcy end up together and all good. Tho they struggle with infertility. Finally on 4th try after 3 miscarriages they have a baby.

While they are trying to conceive Lachie story of love happens and he meets great travelling nurse. He’s in recovery now realizing he didn’t want to end up like his drunk abusive dad. After quad accident and reinsuring g a rib or arm or something he goes in for surgery and she stays with Lachie making sure he doesn’t OD on pain killers. She has a super cute precocious 7yr old daughter who falls in love with Lachie. Turns out Lachie is actual biological father. Bc they both met a music fest and were too drunk to remember hook up but she gets his dna from hairbrush. And they work things out and want more kids.

Youngest brother Noah moved away and then home for a bit and meets helicopters musher pilot who follows the herds and work. It’s dangerous work and her best friend crashes and becomes paralyzed and runs away from Noah. But Noah finds her and brings her back.

Good deep stories and good feel of Outback and drought and ranching. And much like farmer wants a wife

Any time I see a horse on cover of a book, it makes me want to scoop it up. When I read that this book was a girl falling in love with her boyfriend's brother, I was intrigued.

Lachie and Meghan had a run away romance. They dated only a few short months before he proposed-without a ring. Then he brought her to Brigadier Station (that's Australian for ranch) and she met his mother and brother and fell in love. (pun intended).

She and Darcy became best friends and it was obvious that they were made for each other.

Through the whole book, I kept wondering what Lachie would do to make the relationship end. Truth is, all those terrible things I imagined never happened. The story allows us to still like Lachie but also see that he is not right for Meghan.

The climax had me seriously on edge. If what I thought was going to happen to Lachie happened, I probably would have thrown the book. Believe me, I was swooning over Darcy almost as hard as Meghan was, but Lachie didn't deserve anything horrible.

I'm glad it all ended happily. I can only assume that there will be another book, and I will happily read that one too.

First time reader of Sarah Williams, and was so into this story. I highly recommend it, You won't be sorry.
So refreshing that no where in the story did they take The Lord's in vain, Thank You for that.
The story had good flow. Very fresh story line. The characters had good chemistry.
Such sizzle and sexy times ( just enough .)
I LOVED reading about Australia......just WOW. Very relatable characters. Loved the whole close family ties, can't wait to read more in this series. It's by far the best read I've read this year.
Totally WORTH your click.
If you like cowboys, the country life, a great love Story with a Slow burn. It will be worth your time..
It's not very Fast paced as most like. But I enjoyed the subsidy and hanging on to every word, to just draw out this little gem of a book.
Thank You for the adventurer Sarah Williams.

Sweet romance that introduces us to the McGuire family

Meghan arrives at Brigadier Station as Lachie's fiance, but spending her vacation there, with him, exposes the holes in their relationship at the same time it fans the flames smoldering between her and Lachie's brother, Darcy. Lachie's not really in a good space for any relationship at this time (his story is two books later) so the awkwardness of the situation is not as acrimonious as it could be.

There are the expected snags for Meghan and Darcy, along with a few unexpected ones, as they figure out how to make their future together work. It's a well-written story with terrific characters, an engaging setting, and a complex family history that almost works as a character itself. I enjoyed this book, along with the rest of the series, and recommend it for anyone who loves cowboys, Australia's outback, or both.

What a fabulous beginning to the Brigadier Station series. I enjoyed it so much that I started this in the morning and finished early afternoon. The story progresses fairly quickly, but the author fills it with wonderful character development and twists and turns. Although the story threatens the reader with a frustrating love triangle, Williams never crosses dubious lines or makes any character the villain. It's handled with respect to each character and positive resolutions. All while rendering a sweet and compelling love story. I'm in love with these brothers and can't wait to meet Noah in the next book. (This is my voluntary and unbiased review of a complimentary copy of The Brothers of Brigadier Station.)

Fortunate to find myself with a large chunk of time sitting in a plane, I loaded my kindle with books, The Brothers of Brigadier Station being the first one. And I loved it!
By the time I had reached my destination I had devoured every word of the book and I'm now left looking forward to the next one.
Great characters, great plot and an intense romantic story made this an easy read. And the setting of Brigadier Station had my mind filled with beautiful imagery and a desire to wish I was there.
If you love romance, love a rural setting and of course a great story, you'll love this.
And now I've heard there's an audiobook with Myles Pollard as a narrator! I think I might just have to listen to that too!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

What a sweet read. I just adored the characters. The plot was realistic and flowed beautifully. This novel was pure romance. I am glad for the ebook as some of the words were unfamiliar to me. It was a great educational experience. I can't wait to read more from this author especially in this series!!!!!

If you want to read a book that is all about romance and doesn't rely on sex or foul laungage, then look no further. This tender love story is for you. Written with a dual POV to get into the characters' mind, you won't want to miss this. I highly recommend.

The Brother of Brigadier Station begins the Brigadier Sisters series by Sarah Williams. I had the pleasure to listen to the audio version of this book. I enjoyed how the narrator, Myles Pollard, performed this story perfectly. It did take a couple of chapters to get into , but then I was entertained all the way to the end. It was fun to visit the Australian outback.
I give The Brother of Brigadier Station four and a half stars. I can not wait to read the second installment from the Brigadier Sisters series, The Sky Over Brigadier Station. I recommend this book to other readers who love sweet romances.
I received this book the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

This is a heartwarming contemporary romance set at a station in the drought ridden Australian outback. The characters are well crafted with strengths and weaknesses making them engaging. The storyline is an emotional rollercoaster as the love triangle unfolds. The narrative was well done providing a great description of the harsh environment and providing insight into the thoughts, emotions and motivations of the characters. I enjoyed the emotional drama as the characters dealt with their difficult pasts and all the obstacles placed on them. I enjoyed the dialogue and character interactions. If you enjoy contemporary romances, you will enjoy this book.

An outback love triangle? Color me intrigued...This was a decent book, the audiobook was a freebie, otherwise I wouldn't have picked it up. The audiobook was not great, I could tell that the narrator wasn't a pro, lots of lip smacks and background noise, plus he didn't do a great job differentiating between the different characters. The story was ok, but I didn't buy that she loved the one brother, was going to marry him, then met the other brother and suddenly doubting her life choices. Not to mention suddenly the one brother does a 180 and starts acting totally different. Sorry, but I can't recommend this one.

I listened to the audio version of this today, my first ever audio book but finished it in one sitting. To be honest, I expected not to like it, and when the voice started talking to me, it firmed up my opinion that I just can’t do audiobooks.

But then I got swept into the story, and my mind got taken onto the land of far North Queensland and into the lives of Megan, Lachie, Darcy and Harriet. The audio of this book was well paced, clearly spoken and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

I’m very much looking forward to reading the rest of this series!!
