Devadatta Kali (born 1949) is an American writer, teacher, and spiritual practitioner best known for his works on Hindu spirituality, particularly the Tantric and Vedantic traditions of the Goddess (Shakta) worship. He is a disciple of Swami Pavitrananda, who was a senior monk of the Ramakrishna Order, and has been associated with the Vedanta Society of Southern California for several decades.

Early Life and Education
Born in the United States, Devadatta Kali (original name David Nelson) was drawn to Hindu philosophy and mysticism at an early age. His encounter with the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, and Sri Sarada Devi deeply influenced his spiritual path. After meeting Swami Pavitrananda in the 1970s, he was initiated into the Ramakrishna-Vedanta tradition and given the name Devadatta Kali (“the one who offers himself to the Goddess”).
