Enchanting the Fey is a brilliant first novel from a talented debut author. It has a sassy heroine/ protagonist, sexy love interests and an intriguing premise. I really enjoyed this book. It was full of twists you didn't see coming and keeps you hooked until the last page. I can't wait for book 2!
I was provided this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. Keep in mind before you read my review that this is the first book of this author and while it is a four star rating, this book is a five star for how well it was written and the hard work the author put into this book.
The first few chapters, it was super confusing because it jumps one minute she is walking in the park, the next she's in the morgue with a knife pointed at her by a stranger. It was really confusing trying to figure out who was who and throughout the story, I was trying to figure out where the romance developed between her and Jax.
The story is very fast paced and I can easily see this book developed into a series with the characters more developed and more of a back story. I would like to learn more about Des's mother, her adopted brother and wife, and of course her great grandmother!
I enjoyed the world the author created and the characters were very real. Des has such spunk! The different fey species was really interesting and the angels, I wonder if there will be a second book to this story?
Book Blurb:
The day Desmoree Shale was kidnapped and awoke naked on a slab in a Sydney morgue should have been the worst day of her life – but she’s not dead, barely harmed, and her would be assassin, Jax, is actually kind of… cute. Tempted by the idea of a mythical fairy-land, Des joins Jax in discovering the past her mother was determined to keep hidden. She quickly learns there was a reason for her mother’s secrecy. Finding herself smack in the middle of an eons-old war between two feuding Fey species, prophesized to take on a vicious beast, and pressured to unlock her magic is not what Des had been expecting. Now she must decide between a terrible battle in the new life she loves or returning to piece together the one she left behind.
After an attempt on her life, photographer Desmoree is taken to the world of the fey - a world that her mother spent her life hiding from her, and that she is destined to save. It's a lot to take in and a lot of responsibility, but there is more to stay for than just destiny.
This is a nice story. Fairies and magic and monsters - all things I love. I also just have to say I love the cover, it's really simple and elegant. Alongside the magic and fairies, there's also a fun underlying focus on shoes (it's not entirely integral to the story but a relatable touch). The romantic aspect happens quite abruptly, which isn't ideal. There's a lot of detail on the rest of the story (Des' destiny, her family history, and her learning about her powers and the world her mother took her from) and the romance seemed to be left a bit behind, thrown in wherever it would fit. This wasn't too much of a problem though, the story still moved well.
The second half contained an unexpected amount of action. At times the story felt rushed and I wondered if I'd missed a few pages (I hadn't, I checked) but it was still exciting and intriguing. I did enjoy reading Enchanting the Fey, but it does have a few flaws in pace and plot.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love a good Fae book and have been wanting to read this one for quite some time. That cover is just gorgeous!!! Unfortunately for some reason though I just had such a hard time getting through this one. It started out extremely intriguing too! I think I just couldn’t get past Des’s character. It just seemed a little too immature and it unfortunately just had me rolling my eyes. There were also quite a few typos and spacing issues that were distracting. I also felt that the story was a bit rushed too and some scenes felt confusing making me have to go back and reread them to try and understand. I did enjoy the background of the different Faes. That was a unique and interesting spin. Overall it was a fun and whimsical story but overall I personally just wanted more. Thank you Fiction Atlas for the opportunity to read this book!
Desmoree, although this tough little chick likes to be called Des, thank you very much, finds out that all in her world is not as it seems.
I loved reading Rebecca Bosevski’s novel, Enchanting The Fey. It is a type of coming of age story, but with supernatural and adult themes.
As Des struggles to meet the needs of her Fey family, once she finds out she is not entirely human, she must also struggle with the expectations of saving rivaling fey against an unknown force. Supporting characters are well written, and Des’ love interest, Jax, helps balance the serious tones with humor, which provides an exciting, fun, and romantic story that you will love. Can’t wait to read the next book in the trilogy.
I won this book, but I think that eventually I would have purchased it from looking at the cover alone. I started to read this book and before I knew it a couple of hours had gone by. I think I only managed to put it down 3 times including when I was finished. There wasnt a moment where I didnt want to know what would happen next and found myself saying just another chapter then il stop so often but finally gave in to go to sleep. While I had suspected a few things to happen they did not happen in the way I had thought, Rebecca seems to have a knack for keeping the reader on the edge.
Great story. Fascinating tale. Des, Jax, Moyeth, Phoneas, and Frey are delightful. The action is fast paced throughout. The evil is hidden in plain sight as it should be. But, shoe shopping is not a significant thing.
I was provided this book as an ARC by the author; however, the review is my honest opinion.
Wonderful debut book and an at times whimsical read. But this isn't a fluffy feel good fairy book. The author delves into loss, pain, death, betrayal, and war. Some scenes might be a bit much if you're squeamish with an overly vivid mental eye.
I loved the character development of Moyeth, Des, Max and Jax. There is some characters that appear and then are gone without the development I longed for (but that may well be deliberate as we don't knew everything about those that are only in our lives for a season.
The plot twist on the identity of the villain was handled well, I didn't see it coming until it smacked me in the face.
I want to explain so much more of why I really enjoyed this book and read it in less than forty eight hours but I'm not sure how to cover everything without giving away key ply points.
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction Blog Reading Enchanting the Fay I felt rushed. It seemed as if everything happened at once with little to no explanation. Not for the reader and not for the main character, Des. There was this mountain of information that was dumped on her and she just accepted it with little to no questions. Well, she had questions, but they were not answered at all and she kept fainting which was rather annoying for me. The idea behind the book was good. Nothing new, nothing too exciting, but it was good and interesting which is why I picked up the book. But I felt as if I had a first draft of the story in my hands. As I said before. It all happened in what felt like hours and then there was the final battle. I would have liked to have more build up. More learning, more feelings. Nothing the characters did made sense to me, because I couldn’t really understand them. I didn’t know what drove them to do what they did and more than once the actions had me confused so I had to reread parts. It was not a bad book, but it could have been way better. The world building could have been more detailed, with more explanations about the things the fay do and why they did it. In the end you just had this giant clusterfuck that left me a little bit hanging with questions, because the final solution was too easy. There was no real sacrifice. Not like I expected at least. I wish I could say more positive things, because the bones of the story were really good. They were well thought through and deserve to get more stars, but the way this story rolled out was too rushed for me to give more than three stars.
I received a review copy of this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.
The main character is a sassy girl who is entertaining in her mannerisms and quirks, who finds herself in an unknown world that has been hidden from her depending upon her for survival. She sucks your attention in and keeps it there. I found this book a fun entertaining read with new twists and turns on Fey beings and Fey culture. There is a dash of romance but it does not overtake the story and develops organically throughout the story at a steady pace. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in fantasy stories about faeries.
Enchanting the Fey by Rebecca Bosevski is a 3 star read. This is the first book in a series. I really struggled to get into this book, a lot of it didn’t make any sense to me, I kept having to go back and re-read what I had already read as I felt like I was missing something but couldn’t figure out what it was. I would recommend that you try for yourself as not everyone will feel the same way. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this book.
It’s not easy living in someone’s shadow, especially that of a war hero. In Enchanting the Fey, Desmoree is the granddaughter of a famous Fey warrior who banished a great evil. Now a demon is rising and Desmoree is prophesized to stop it, but she quickly learns that not all is as it appears. Enchanting the Fey offers plenty of twists that any fantasy or new adult fans will enjoy!
This story is is interesting and intriguing and keeps the reader guessing what will happen next. I look forward to reading this book in paperback and reviewing it. If you like fantasy and adventure this is the book for you. Will I read the book again? Hopefully in paperback. Don't forget to go get yours.
Overall a good read though the beginning had a lot of dialogue and seemed rushed, everything just happened so fast!! I wish there had been more character development. But I enjoyed the storyline, and as the story progressed you did connect more with the characters. A Fun Read!
Ridiculous. I don’t get why everyone is bellowing and yelling. The story is nothing short of random and the ending is just pure cringing. If I paid for this I want my money back.
Was given a free copy via Voracious Readers. Easy to read, likeable characters - Aussie themed fantasy novel. Would like to read the next book to see how the story develops.
Great story telling. Confused as to why Australian writer used American spelling. Looking forward to finding out what happens in the rest of the series.
I don’t usually read paranormal books about the Fey. In my experience, they tend to be overly complicated, with tons of different species and courts and such. As you all know, I’m a lazy reader and I just don’t have the energy to sort all that complicated crap out. But this book had a great blurb and a cute cover, so I thought, what the hell? I’ll give it a read. And overall, I’m glad I did.
The world-building in this book was intricate and well-thought-out. But yet, it wasn’t so intricate that I had trouble following the story. That’s not an easy accomplishment for an urban fantasy author, so I give the author mad props for that.
Desmoree was an interesting character. She was smart and capable, and certainly didn’t lack confidence, which was refreshing.
But, sadly, my reading experience wasn’t all sunshine, happiness and rainbows. I have a few gripes:
1. The story opens with Desmoree getting fired from her job. I didn’t see the point of this scene. Was it just to make sure that Des was in the park where the hero could easily find her? I dunno. Seemed like pages were wasted on characters that never got any further page time.
2. The romance with Jax happened super fast. I mean SUPER fast. These two had barely spoken a few times before they were confessing their undying love.
3. Des certainly accepted her “destiny” (which involved some crazy-dangerous stuff) easily. She also easily accepted the existence of Fey, and seemed comfortable with flying (sans an airplane) WAY quicker than I would have. It just struck me as slightly unrealistic.
4. Sexy times were very limited. Sex was of the “closed door” variety. (Not “back door”, but “closed door”. “Back door” would be a TOTALLY different thing, and this wasn’t THAT kind of book.) I myself have no problem with this “fade to black before penetration” type of sex scene, but any romance readers who pick this book up might feel cheated by the lack of detail.
5. Jax was really interesting. I would’ve liked to see his character developed beyond “hot guy assists heroine in saving the day.”
But, minor gripes notwithstanding, this is a book I’d recommend to urban fantasy readers who enjoy the intricate world of the Fey. The author obviously has a great talent for storytelling, and I expect great things from her as this series continues.
Full disclosure: the author generously provided a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I must start by saying I really love the cover that Rebecca picked. I think it just flows well and is really pretty and eye catching. I love that those blue shoes she talks about is on the cover.
I thought overall this was a pretty good book, I did feel that it seemed a little rushed. It started out slower, you are getting to know Des a little bit and see her fiery side and then she is whisked away into the Fey world. She is slowly understanding who she is, since it has been hidden from her, her entire life in order to protect her. She meets her relatives and hears about this prophecy how she is the chosen one to defeat this beast and it is all thrown at her right away. Now who wouldn't have some anxiety over this?! Then as she starts to learn more about what is going on in this world and gets to meet her father and starts to learn more about Jax it all of a sudden takes off. One second she is learning where to collect ingredients for spells and that she can see her moms essence and speak to her and then bam all of a sudden she is in a battle with the beast. Then from there it is nonstop, don't want to put it all in here and ruin the story.
Maybe it is because I am used to reading trilogies where by the end of the first she might have had her first battle with the beast, but there would have been some backstory to it. I know this is a series as well, but it just seemed to go really fast. That being said I thought the story was interesting and kept me entertained and wondering what was going to happen. I really liked Des sarcasm and her attitude, I did feel that towards the end she kind of lost that spunk. She all of a sudden became really sweet tempered and romantic, which isn't bad, but was different than how she started out in the book.
I am glad that this book didn't have a love triangle, at first I thought oh dear Jax and Moyeth are both going to want her. Then you find out that Moyeth is actually married so I was glad. Not that I don't love a good love triangle, but I enjoy books that don't do it because you get to focus on the story and the growth between the two characters. I thought overall this was a fun book and am interested in knowing where the story goes from here. I thought the characters were good and that I did connect with them and were interested in them as the story progressed.
