What if Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy met not at Hertfordshire but Hunsford? Rather than unwitting insults, they court in secret while exploring the grounds. It is perfect until the couple is caught in a compromising position. Will a forced engagement and a missing bride-to-be derail their love?
Find out in Mr. Darcy’s Missing Bride, a sweet, suspenseful romance of 30,000 words, Book 1 of 4 - happy ending guaranteed.
To insult someone we call him "bestial." For deliberate cruelty and nature, "human" might be the greater insult. ~ Isaac Asimov
Elizabeth Bennet is abducted from Rosings when Lady Catherine learns of her attachment to her nephew, Fitzwilliam Darcy. Elizabeth endures numerous examples of deliberate cruelty.
The book is well-written but for me, overly brutal. It was not an enjoyable afternoon of reading.
The blurb accompanying this book mentions that it is “Book 1 of the Power of Darcy’s Love series.” It is not clear from that description if “Book 2” is a sequel to this one but I hope it is. No punishment is given to the perpetrator or his conspirator. Everyone knows who is responsible but no consequences are set on these powerful people. The book seems very incomplete.
But never, in all the animal world, have I witnessed anything to match the casual cruelty of the human being. ~ Terri Irwin
Angsty, Elizabeth is abducted - Darcy to the rescue plot with a dark ambience.
It enters with a prologue that fill you with suspense through the next chapters with romantic interludes because you know something sinister is about to happen. There was a compromise and promise of marriage before the trouble ensued. A very dark tale that although it is a chaste read, had elements of torture that is not for the faint-hearted. I admit that I thought it was a bit much... Perfect read for Halloween?
I really like the writing and idea of this story. However, it's dark. What happens to E was so hard to read. It was detailed and absolutely awful to contemplate to our beloved girl. Then the ending was abrupt and there was NO JUSTICE for any perpetrator just statements that they would see justice. We have several pages of E struggling to deal with her processing her horrors. Then all of a sudden we have D and E come to terms (not a plot giveaway!) and the story ends (not enough pages compared with the description of the bad). I really enjoyed this book but think it would benefit from some tweaks. less description of the violence and more implications then justice for E would have made this 5 stars from me. the writing was great!
i purchased this book with credits (amazon) so i didn't feel the pinch but may have been a tad upset to have spent $ for such an unsatisfying ending.
Warning: some of this story is about the sex trade and the brutalities connected with it. We know it exists now and that it has always been an evil in this world. It affects ODC in this variation.
Elizabeth and Darcy are coming to know each other better while at Hunsford but that awful proposal never occurs as M/M Collins and Mariah come upon ODC while they are kissing. Darcy immediately states that they are engaged and so it was within propriety for him to kiss his new fiancee.
He goes off to London to get a Special License and while gone Lady Catherine demands that Elizabeth come to Rosings...alone. She spews venom at Elizabeth and when threats and insults don't work she offers to pay Elizabeth off. THEN she demands Elizabeth leave...without returning for her possessions at the parsonage more saying goodbye to the Collinses.
Next thing we know she has disappeared. The carriage which took Elizabeth away never shows up at the Gardiners in London.
This story does have angst and I must say I wanted more of the story at the end. I wanted the villain(s) to somehow pay and I wanted to know if Elizabeth overcame her PTSD. Darcy never wavers and you have to love how he never doubted Elizabeth.
Read this only if you can stomach cruel and violent events in a story.
They met at Risings and they like each other immediately. They are caught in a compromising moment but Darcy loves her and wants to marry her. However, Lady C has other idea. She asks Lord Bee to help... Poor Lizzie!
I think the end was a but abrupt after everything that happened.
Darcy's secret courting of Elizabeth finds her compromised. Instead of Mr. Collins listening to Darcy, he informs Lady Catherine who has her kidnapped. Darcy finally finds Elizabeth, but she is a shell of her former self. Darcy decides that his marriage will take place, and he will let Netherfield so that she can heal while she is near her family!
It is a shame that something so heinous could happen to someone we care about, yet such things have happened for millennia. Jealousy, pride, ability to show dominance has marred human history since the beginning. This fiction brings it to life for us in a very powerful way. Sad, but too true. Very well written.
In this P&P variation Elizabeth Bennet meets Darcy for the first time at Rosings, where they begin a secret courtship. But when Lady Catherine discovers the truth danger beckons. An interesting novella but the story continues
A most devoted Mr. Darcy to a traumatized Elizabeth
There are huge changes in this variation: there is no meeting between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth in Hertfordshire as their story begins in Hunsford. Although not really impulsive, Elizabeth Bennet’s character is somewhat altered as she easily gives in to affection to a man she hardly knows. Lady Catherine has never been as nefarious as this one here; and although found culpable, there is no accountability or confronting her actions, as much as there is no confronting the real culprit for Elizabeth Bennet’s ordeal.
This reader finds this variation uneven. As much as Mr. Darcy is seen in a most positive and admirable light, many elements are lacking; as if the author hurriedly wrote what ought to have been a most promising story.
I enjoyed the story, though I didn’t realize you needed to read the whole series to get the complete story. The book does end nicely, and though I would have liked more, I thought that was just all you got, until I read the preview of the second book, and realized it was a continuation of the 1st book. Also, the speech jumps around a lot. Darcy calls her Lizzy, he calls her Elizabeth. It sounds modern day, then tries to sound more regency. That did bother me, but the story itself was good.
This was very well written interesting story. Omgee!! Darcy and Elizabeth meeting like this, was cute and sweet. What happened to Elizabeth, could cause trigger issues for some, was hard to read, but well written. Darcy, Mr Garndnier, and Colonel Fitzwilliam were exceptionally written well. The ending was good. Highly recommended to read
I truly enjoyed this book. It has its suspenseful moments. In fact, I , at one point, doubted a happy ending. The characters are true to our expectations. The plot was tight and the writing strong. Another exceptional book from this wonderful author!
It could have had more plot and character development. Lots of parts could have been developed to leave less questions. Potential for a really great book.
This book contains violence and abuse, but it also contains a love story. There is the fact that the story is a continuation, too. I knew this from the beginning, but still found myself just hanging to know what is next for Darcy and Elizabeth. Hope it is worth the wait in the next book.
Great story until it hit a brick wall and ended out of no where. There wasn't a finalization to even make want to read part to unless it is released free.
A pretty harsh book with no satisfaction because it is broken into multiple parts. I wasn't a fan enough to buy the other parts. It wasn't pleasurable to read.
