Disappointing

The book could have been good but I just couldn’t deal with Violet poor me attitude. Her childhood was awful true but the night with Max was her choice. She kept blaming him because she was disappointed instead of taking responsibility for her actions. She could have explained to him why she was sleeping with him at the time. I’m always annoyed when parents hide a child. In her case in was even worse considering her family history. Then to have her constantly throwing that night in his face was annoying, she wasn’t a victim. Cold truth is, as she didn’t explain her motives, he gave her a monetary reward to sleep with him. The whole dating thing was also silly. As the father of her son, he has a right to know who is introduced to his kid. In these day and age, she would have been better of meeting Marcus at the restaurant. I’m glad that at least they moved closer to his family instead of her demanding to stay with n Florida.

Beautiful
Twisted Devotion is a sweet story. The main and secondary characters are fantastic. As a child, Violet was thrust into a situation that she had no choice but to accept and make the best of it. I can definitely understand how living in such a household with Sarah could affect Vee's self-esteem and self-worth. I wish her father would have stood his ground instead of allowing Sarah to treat Violet the way she did and making Violent refer to him as her uncle. Violet grew and eventually did not accept less than she deserved. Yes, there are a few typos, but it didn't take away from enjoying this book.

A lovely story that carries out over the span of 18yrs

I loved the fact that the story starts from the first meeting of Violet with her father and his wife. The story is detailed to the fact that you get the background for which Violet has come about, being the result of an affair.
We get to see how she was treated and how she forms friendships with people and her initial meeting with th h Maximus.
All in all this is a moving story that shows how Violet overcomes all obstacles to become a fantastic human being. A lovely story with a deserved HEA.

Weak, unlikable Characters

Based on the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to reading this book. Main character had a tough childhood and I was glad when she finally moved away to college. Unfortunately Vee's story arc is based on self deception repeatedly for the entire book! She kept making such naive decisions and letting almost everyone use her for one thing or another. It's hard to root for a character with no growth, no backbone and unwilling to learn from their past or mistakes.

True Devotion

Violet is a true innocent...she was a innocent child thrust into a situation of betrayal and trust by parents who should know better...she was truly innocent when she was attacked and lied on by friends she trusted...she was truly innocent and forced to lie about who her father was...she had one constant feeling of hope and acceptance...and that was Mom Mary...and her one true love was Maximus Stratis..until he stripped her of her dignity and...innocence

Magnificent

I enjoyed reading this book. The writing flowed easily and effortless. The characters were well developed and compelling. I,too felled in love with Maximus and was disappointing that he allowed someone to destroyed Violet reputation without any prove. This book has it all, betrayal, fear, pain and suffering, however something good will overcome the challenges. The lovemaking is off the charts. Overall an outstanding book.

Journey

Violet was almost too good to be true. After years of emotional abuse and neglect by her step mother, she still tried to please her family. While her father loved her, he was not man enough to own her in public. Instead saying to the world that she was his niece. I think she let Max off too easy....there was no real excuse for his actions. And did her BEST school friend Samantha ever apologize?

Second chances

Vee had loved Maximus since she was a child. Maximus always had feelings for Vee but never acted on them due to their she difference. Vee's life has been turbulent since her mother died and she was forced to live with the man who didn't know he had a daughter, and his wife and kids.

Blood but not family

Good read. Unfortunately it's not a topic that's only in books. There are women who truly are like this when it comes to the kids their husbands have outside their marriage. Karma always come around though!

Max & Vee!

Love it!!
I felt for Vee, so much lost in her young life. And she had to go through so much, ... But what don't kill you, makes you stronger.
Follow the journey of Max & Vee, they won't disappoint.

Moving story

Violet wanted to be accepted and loved by her family so much that she failed to know her worth for a long time. Maximus may have been older than Violet but was very self centered. This story had twists and turns that were riveting.

2.00 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. Violet "Vee" Barton is the child of an adulterous affair between her Black mother and her White married father, Charles Barton. When her mother dies, Violet is made to live with her father as his niece instead of his daughter. She is treated badly by her father's wife and children; but her father loved and made sure she'd have a secure future by setting up a trust with money for 6 years of college plus two million dollars. Maximus Stratis is the son of a wealthy businessman and will become its CEO, he is 3 years older than Violet and the best friend of her older half-brother/cousin. Violet and Maximus developed crushes as teenagers that supposedly last throughout the book despite the authors failure to explore this relationship for any length. The bulk of the book dwells in the past rehashing Violet's mistreatment by her father's wife. When her father dies, Violet has earned a Master's Degree and is a 24-year-old virgin who is asked by her Step-mother to have sex with Maximus in order to save the family home. Violet and Maximus have angry sex, she gets pregnant, two years pass before Maximus is told. Three to four chapters find the author trying to redeem Violet for denying her son his father. Predictably, Violet and Maximus come together as a family. But who cares.

Needing more

**2 1/2 stars** I believe this is my first read by this author, whom I decided to read because I've heard great things. I'm a little on the fence. Where I totally love a second chance romance, this kinda fell flat. Understandably, we need a back story but when the book started, we get the conflict, then we get how the conflict came to pass. In this case it took up too much of what could have been a more developed story of how Violet and Max rekindled their romance, instead of so much of the story spent on very minute details of Violet's tragic upbringing. This left, the rest of the story feeling rush and not properly developed, especially the epilogue. I will try another story and hope for the best

A sweet story overall. A little repetitive in places. I felt the characters could have been developed more in-depth, especially the attraction between Max and Violet. But sometimes attraction just is, and Max was one of the few people especially kind to Violet when she needed it most during her teen years.

I did feel I understood Violet and why she acted the way she did. When she came into her own and stood strong as an adult and single mom, I rooted for her and her choices. She was much more forgiving than I could ever be, which also made her stronger.

I only wish the book had been edited better. Many mistakes throughout. Oh, well. Overlooking those, I enjoyed the story.

Decent story

This is the first book I've read by this author. story was good but...it could have been so much meatier. Violet is a young girl who loses her mother and has to live with her new found father and evil step mother. Violet must live the lie that her father is her uncle in order to have a modicum of peace in her new family. Each character that is introduced left me wanting to know more about them. The beginning of Maximus' and Violet was an infatuation that to me dragged on for a bit to long. Over a good effort

Decent beginning. A lot of time was spent building the dimensions of the heroine. None were given to hero unfortunately. I think this would get a higher rating from me if it was packaged as a woman’s evolution to coming in to her own than a romance novel. The romance between the couple was unbelievable because there was no development what so ever. The most interesting dynamic was the heroine and Sarah and even they had a satisfying closer to their relationship. I would actually rate this book 2.5 stars.

This was a very touching story. It was sad especially for the heroine during her childhood and young adulthood. I am glad that she persevered and grew strong as well as maintained her dignity. She and Max got their HEA along with their family. I love her friendship with Rachel and I was wondering if the author has plans for Rachel and Cole to get together. Anyway, this was a good read!

Twisted Devition

Twisted Devotion was a good book, but frustrating. There were a lot of weak people who should have had a stronger backbone. An especially strong backbone as an adult. The h was put through a world of hurt with a lot of twists and turns. The H had his alpha moments, but wavered. The ending was good, but just felt like something was missing.

Waste of time...

I thought this was a new book instead it was just the beginning of her first book, which I already read just by another name. It seems to me that this author is struggling since she wrote her first book.

Eh

This felt like a draft instead of a published book. There were some editing issues, story flow problems, and some word choice things that really brought the book down. The entire thing felt a little juvenile, but it was a nice try.

loved the front cover

Storyline was ok but I wasn’t impressed with the lack of character descriptions on the other characters and not even sure if the front cover depicted her. Glad I got to the end because it’s not a page turner

Yeah, wow. And I'm like... "What?" "No way". So worth it.

Not to make light of it, but this is one book where you are not only shown, but you feel for the character. She came out stronger, but the fire almost took her out. I ached for the child.
