Until a couple months ago, Esper would have said having not one, but two hot paranormal lovers would be the most exciting thing to ever happen in her painfully dull life.

But that was before some ancient…thing asked her to save his life. Then there’s the werewolf. And the goblins. And the cat that isn’t just a cat….

The supernatural world is revealing itself to Esper at an annoying rate, and all the assholes seem to have expectations. To top it off, Esper’s best friend is acting sketchy. And someone keeps trying to abduct the frumpy necromancer off the street.

How can she get to know her gorgeous medium and learn how to support her stupidly needy vampire, when she can’t even go one whole day without another supernatural problem falling in her lap?

Author’s Note:

Fed up with the usual tropes in romance and reverse harem? I wanted characters that are more than the fainting female and alpha male cookie cutter stereotypes that saturate the genre. (There’s nothing wrong with it, if you like that sort of thing, but it just got old for me!) People come in all shapes, sizes, personalities, and gender/sexual orientations—so when I pick up a book and have trouble telling the difference between the characters…that’s a problem.

*The Reluctant Necromancer series is a sequence of novellas between 35,000-40,000 words in length. While the main plot arc in each book will be resolved, there may be mild cliffhangers/segue into the next book with new issues arising.

*This author’s characters are as flawed and damaged as real life—do not read if you are easily offended by talk of past trauma of any kind. This includes uncomfortable situations of any kind—sexual, physical, mental/emotional. (No explicit scenes of this nature, generally, but they will talk about what’s happened in the past and it may be distasteful if you are easily triggered).

*Contains mature adult content, including but not limited to: graphic sex, adult language (that means swearing, folks) and fictional situations with some gore and or action/violence.

*This is a reverse harem urban fantasy, and the author firmly believes love is love, and as such includes themes of: polyamory (multiple lovers), MF, MMF, MM, FF, and MMMFF love.

Sometimes our greatest strengths come from our deepest challenges. I write magic and romance, starring a cast of creatures with feathers, fins, and teeth. My books include paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance--with the occasional steampunk or alien story thrown in just for kicks. My pan heart firmly believes love is love, so you'll see straight, LGBTQIA, monogamous, reverse harem, and poly relationships in my work. My favorite theme is overcoming our inner demons and the insecurities that hold us back.
I also advocate for self-development and mental health and dabble in non-fiction as time allows. I love the outdoors and still hope to be abducted by fae! (I may have more in common with my characters than I care to admit.)

I understand that authors are always warned not to “info-dump” to their readers, that they should include the information the reader needs to know naturally through the story. But there’s a downside to that, when so many things are going on that everyone EXCEPT the main character knows about. At some point, someone needs to sit Esper down and just give her a crash course in the greater magical world instead of constantly bemoaning that she should have learned all of this stuff growing up.

Overall, this book suffers from general “middle book” syndrome. Stuff gets interesting but no one gets any answers. A more minor quibble is that a werewolf is introduced to the greater cast of characters, but there’s no romance with her.

Luckily, a newer character to the series is Jet the familiar. He absolutely steals the show, and I’m excited to see where the story goes with him in the mix.

Sigh.
That fact that the heroine is stupid as fuck seriously ruined my reading fun. Her insecurities and „ostrich“ behaviour were exhausting, but understandable up to a point.
But she is a grown ass woman, behaving like a teenager in a YA book, with the brains of a fucking potato. And I am insulting the potato right now. That is NOT enjoyable or part of the character she represents, it is only annoying. Such a shame.
Because getting over your insecurities and growing as a person is much likely than egging smart all of a sudden.

Dear author: please, please, please, do not sacrifice her brain cells for the sake of an already non existent plot.

I love this author, she’s one of the few that I’ll buy without reservations.

Quirky characters and lots of humor.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

ughhh I started out loving this series. but the characters are so bland. theres no character arc whatsoever, and I get that the main character is supposed to be the opposite of the pretty hot girl that is usually in the middle of a harem, but if I hear one more time about how she is yellow and huge im going to scream. and she is awful to everyone around her, and bitter at the world. has no care about hrepowers, asks no questions. Im sick of her. And the breaking point is the amount of times they bring up Lunas gigantic tits. literally every time luna is mentioned, her tits follow.

Oh my gosh, can I have a Jet please? And a Toma, and Drake, and Luna?!

Book 3 of 6 was amazing! I loved finding out more about Esper’s familiar, Jet, in all of his amazing forms. Luna, oh my gosh, LUNA!! I want a busty, strong, feminine, bad@ss female werewolf to come after me please!

The nest / harem / pack / murder is a growing andI’m here for it. We get more on page spice, tons of great character growth, and action too! This series just keeps on giving. I’m a very happy paranormal romance reader.

Loved it!

Great installment for this really interesting series. I totally sympathised with Jet in this book, though. I felt like Esper was being deliberately obtuse and ignorant throughout the book. Hopefully she'll put on her big girl panties for the next book and step up.

Yes I want more!

Fresh, interesting, flaws, quirks and all. I love the characters and simplicity of the affection between the main people. Just wish the story lasted longer per book.

Crazy but cute

I'm a little annoyed with the FMC right now, but I'm hoping she gets her crap together in the next book. I'm not annoyed with the book, it's been a great story so far and I can't wait to read the next one.

Quirky

This is the second time reading this story so I could be ready to read the next books after a few months of waiting. I love quirky Esper and her mix of beings that are becoming family. This is a true example of acceptance and healing from negative family and friends.

La mitad del libro odie a la protagonista, me desespero muchísimo e incluso me planteé abandonarlo. Afortunadamente no lo hice.
Me gustó mucho la segunda mitad y disfruté mucho de la familia que están formando.

Enjoyed

Well this was a good book but I might not read anymore. I’m not in f/f and this seems to be where it’s headed. Still was good but the first book is so my favorite.

Nice and well written series. Each book, while short, is well balanced and have its own ending. The characters are interesting and growing well.
Only bad thing is the price x page of second and third book, i read the three books in less than 4 hours, in total. That's how short the books are. I was expecting a lot more pages with the increased price.

Things get weirder and weirder in Esper’s life. The attacks on her and Toma seem to be increasing. And now she has 2 (maybe 3) new members to her rag tag family to worry about. Along with growing powers and the drama that comes with interacting with other people Esper’s life certainly isn’t dull.
Still good character growth as she learns more and more about herself and the world of the supernatural.

Marked for spoilers just in case. Where’s the (expensive, old, rare, extremely important, and useful) book at the end? Like that bothers me so much I had to knock a star off. I enjoyed this book, but it needs a little more to finish after the big climactic scene at the end. So many new questions that need to be answered...

7.5/10

10.0% Came here for the RH (there isn't one) but staying for the story! But this loser chick's willful ignorance is getting on my nerves. Much like Schmiana of Schmisovery of Schmitches, I'm guessing she must be spellbound somehow.
