Christmas at Frozen Falls

In a Nutshell: Meh!
Story:
I feel like a Grinch writing this but this Christmas romance fell flat for me on many counts. I fell for that oh-so-adorable cover, the idea of “Frozen Falls”, and of course, who doesn’t like a good old Christmas romance! Well, the cover is still beautiful, the falls do make a lovely (albeit brief) appearance in the book. But the romance is boring and tooooooooooo predictable.
Where the book clicked for me:
😍 The locale. Having the story set in Finnish Lapland is its biggest plus point, All the info about the lifestyle, the saunas, the frozen falls, the freezing weather, the attention to warmth, the Sámi traditions.. was a treat to read. Not to forget the Northern Lights. (I must admit: at times, it felt like the author had a checklist of Finnish specialties she wanted to include in the story and checked the boxes one by one as she progressed with the book.)
😍 The book is not smutty or steamy. (That’s a plus for me but might be a minus for some others.)
Where the book could have worked (much) better for me:
😕 The characters are so unidimensional that you can almost guess every plot point beforehand. Sylvie was the most irritating character. To put it bluntly, she was dumb. Engaged ten years to a guy who keeps pushing the wedding ahead and with a stupid bitch of a mother and she still doesn’t understand how toxic the relationship was? But within a couple of days in Lapland, everything became crystal clear to her?!??! She is a History teacher who knows in detail about Neanderthals but thinks that there are Yetis in Lapland!!! (What the…. ?!?!?)
I must add, Sylvie is thirty four, not exactly a young woman wet behind the ears. There was a time when I used to read romance novels regularly. What was common to most of them was that the heroine was in her early twenties, sweet, innocent to the point of being idiotically naive at times, and looking for and/or jilted in love. The only difference between those days and these days is that the heroine is now in her early thirties. But the extra decade of life doesn't seem to correspond to extra maturity.
😕 There is hardly any sizzle between the romantic pairs or any buildup of romance. In Sylvie’s case, it is like long-lost love, still has feelings, still unsure, more feelings, more insecurity, and so on until all ends well. In Nari’s case, who loses her heart to Stellan’s best friend, the track is exactly the same except for the “long-lost love” part.
😕 The audiobook: Many a time, a pathetic reading experience can be salvaged to a certain extent by a fabulous narrator. Unfortunately, though the narrator of this book is vivacious and brings a lot of warmth to the chilly story, her accents for the male lead characters were a bit wonky. Stellan was Finnish and Nari’s beau was Finnish Sàmi, but they both sounded sometimes Russian, sometimes Italian, and sometimes, plain old American. I have no idea of what the Finnish accent actually sounds like but the lack of consistency was distracting.
Overall, this would be a good choice if you want a light-hearted brainless romance set in a fabulous and novel location. Don’t expect too much sense or thrills from the story though.
2.5 stars from me. Rounding up because (1) Maths rules, and (2) Finland rocks.

The book was magical. It was amazing how a story set in the freezing cold land of Lapland could produce so much warmth that it brought a glow to my heart. A fun romance which showed me that everything happened at a definite time in this universe, even falling in love. And author Kiley Dunbar has proved it so beautifully with this book.
Sylvie was to marry Cole, he ditched her, a jerk. So the supposed honeymoon trip was with her best friend Nari to Lapland. And romance blossomed with an old college ex, Stellan.
My first book by this author, it was a romantic journey into the descriptions of the landscapes and the self-discovery that Sylvie went through. I liked how she grew up and understood herself far better down the pages.
The chapters had different POV which sometimes don't work well for me, but the author totally made it rock here. I liked knowing how everyone was genuine and vested in their relationships. Love and friendship abounded in this sweet tale, along with the tradition and cultures of Lapland.
The book had an additional aspect which enamored me completely. Not only was her romance detailed, but best friend Nari had one of her own which was quite interesting as she was a travel blogger who didn't love easily.
Frozen Falls was delightful where I could believe that anyone could fall in love, both with the land and the people of Lapland. A convincing tale where the warmth of Christmas was rooted in the hearts of the characters, healing them and giving them a second chance.

I loved the scenery, and the side characters, but didn't connect with the MC.
Sylvie felt more like a young teenager than an adult.
Immature, unreasonable and unrealistic.
Nari was a delight and there were cutie Husky puppies, you know I love adorable animals in my books.

Get whisked away on a dream Christmas vacation to Lapland, Finland with this dual holiday romance!
34-year-old Sylvie Magnusson has historically adored Christmas. This year, however, she's struggling to find her Christmas cheer. If he hadn't abruptly left her in the days leading up to their wedding, she would be gearing up to fly off to Mauritius with her would've-been husband Cole on her honeymoon, but instead she's preparing herself for a lonely, solemn holiday. In an attempt to cheer her up, her travel-blogger best friend Nari convinces Sylvie to take her on vacation instead, and at Sylvie's request, uses her many connections to switch the trip at the last minute from tropical Mauritius to the winter wonderland that is Lapland, Finland. Sylvie just might have a reason for choosing Lapland out of the available vacation options—it's the home of Stellan, an old flame that has never quite fully extinguished in her heart. Will the two reconnect under the Northern lights?
Of course they will, silly, because this is a second chance romance! Unfortunately, it's only a decent one at best. For me, this book was just very boring a lot of the time and suffered from poor pacing and transitions. I wonder if maybe having grown up in a "winter wonderland" myself in Vail, Colorado, took away some of the charm that other readers of this book seem to have loved so much. I did appreciate the wintery descriptions and landscape, and at moments this book was very festive, but it just seemed to drag on forever! I enjoyed the characters, but thought the main romance wasn't compelling enough. Many other reviewers have complained about the main character, Sylvie, noting that she seems to be very immature and unreasonable. I have to agree with this complaint, but I think I liked her more than the average reader seems to have. I enjoy when my characters have obvious flaws, and she has more than her fair share of them. I only wish we could have seen more character development from Sylvie before the end of the book. I felt similarly about Stellan, her romantic interest. I thought a lot of his and other Finland native Niilo's backstory felt underdeveloped, and they were both cases of telling without showing.
I also think having two central romances detracted from the reading experience a bit. I loved the characters of Nari and Niilo maybe even more than Stellan and Sylvie, but I felt like we didn't get the right amount of perspective from them. We either needed way more to be fully engaged with their romance, or we needed them to just not have a romantic arc at all. Come to mention it, Nari altogether felt a bit underdevloped. Maybe this whole book just needed a few more minutes in the oven to bake.
Don't let my lukewarm review of this one deter you from picking it up though! There's plenty of warmth and much to love in this Scandinavian Christmas romance for the right reader. If the blurb sounds like a good one to you, I think you'll enjoy it! I just have way too high of expectations for my romances these days. All in all though it led me to continue seeking more Christmas romances, so all was not lost!

Less than hundred days to Christmas and the literary world is already abuzz with Christmas books. So if you are not yet in the festive spirit, this story will be the perfect start. Travel to Finnish Lapland, hug some cute huskies, see the Northern Lights and experience the magic of Christmas along with Sylvie and Nari.
Yes, yes, I know. It is not even winter, but what does it matter to a talented author. Off we go to the winter wonderland, all thanks to the beautiful writing of Kiley Dunbar. And the love story is just the icing of the cake. Oops! my bad. It is love stories since there are not one but two.
For Sylvie and Stellan this is a second chance at love, while for Nari and Niilo, it is love at first sight (love the way their names rhyme). Narrated through multiple perspectives, we get to experience each character's emotional turmoil, all leading to a much expected and cutely visioned happy ending.
So don't forget to add this cosy, cute romance to your Christmas reading list. Have a great time enjoying the wintry nights in Lapland!

STORY ★★★★☆ So I read this book just before Christmas because I wanted something cosy to read in the run up to Christmas day. Now I desperately want to spend Christmas in Lapland! It isn't just a Christmas book though, this book just has a lovely, cosy, wintery feel to it. The cover drew me in more than anything and I am so glad that it did!
OVERALL ★★★★☆ I really liked it, this is a great book to read at any time of year if you like to read a book that makes you smile. The romance is perfect, the setting is beautiful and it all just wraps itself up nicely at the end and leaves you feeling great and checking online for Lapland ticket prices! I'm sure that's not just me?!

Christmas at Frozen Falls is a cute Christmassy second chance romance. If Christmas in Lapland, reindeer sleigh rides and a bunch of husky puppies sound good to you, you'll probably enjoy it quite a bit.
I can't say the romance gripped me 100%, nor that I completely clicked with the characters. And the things that kept these people apart probably could have been more convincing.
But all in all, this book was cute and fun and exactly what you can expect based on that cover.

It's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas or at least Winter, and having read Christmas at Frozen Falls, I just want to pack my bags and spend Christmas this year in Lapland.
Ok in reality its a tiny bit too cold for my liking, so I'll probably spend it in a much warmer destination - but wow who wouldn't want to go husky sledding, take a sleigh ride with real reindeer and generally spend a few days at the place that we all know the real Santa lives!
This really is a bit of Christmas magic, seeing how Sylvie and Nari take a last min trip to Lapland, and go to the resort where Sylvie's ex-boyfriend Stellan is from and might be there. In fact we get to meet not only Stellan but also reindeer herder Niilo, who believes Nari may be his soulmate.
Frozen Falls is such a gorgeous location for book, I really felt I was there alongside Sylvie and Nari, its utterly stunning, and if it can't ignite some Christmas feeling in you then nothing will.
I loved seeing how both ladies interacted with their potential romances, and as well as being on holiday together they spend quite a bit of time apart.
It is clear that Finnish Lapland has been well researched with mentions of Finnish customs, and odd phrases in Finnish put in too for flavour. I loved learning about the sauna customs, and also the mentions that Finn men are slightly quieter, less demonstrative than the male species of other Scandinavian countries.
Oh and the huskies, just how adorable are they. Please can I have a husky puppy for Christmas, I really want to give one a big cuddle, and if i had a team of them, I'd be able to rather unique transport!! They really are great and Sylvie spends quite a bit of time with the dogs in this, as she is even more enchanted than I am with them.
Christmas at Frozen Falls is a wonderful start to my Christmas reading this year, its full of festive feeling, fabulous characters, friends, family, snow and all sorts of traditional Lappish food and customs. I just loved every second of this book.
This may only be Kiley Dunbar's second book, but I can already tell these are the start of a long writing career (I hope), as I am loving her writing,. I can't wait to see what is next.

I usually don't write reviews here, but this one deserves it.
I picked this up because it mentioned the Northern Lights. I started the audiobook but it the narrator was so terrible with her accents that I was forced to stop it. I've heard my share of annoying audiobooks but this narrator's voice will haunt me for a long time.
But enough about untalented audio-artistes when there's so much book-bashing to do.
This book has the most pathetic protagonist I've ever come across. Kiley, what were you thinking? Why did you have to do her like that? Why would you put her through a fucked up ex who breaks off a ten year long engagement only to get his colleague pregnant in 3 months? And a mother-in-law who ticks all the stereotypes of being a monster? This ex makes her pay a mortgage for a house he keeps on his name. And then you made her return her engagement ring to him sweetly when she finds out he has a kid on the way 6 months after their wedding is called off. And then to find our she's similarly spurned by the one boy she's truly loved 15 years ago.
All this and more but this is not including his and the mother-in-law's dognapping of her beloved pup who dies in a week of heartbreak of losing her.
So what the fuck were you thinking, Kylie Dunbar?
Am I supposed to feel sad and heartbroken for this poor helpless girl who has nothing but tragedy in her past?
I feel nothing but disgust.
Not just for the protagonist but also the author who writes about women like they're helpless weaklings who cannot stand up for themselves.

Do you know those books you read with a smile plastered on your face the whole time? Well, "Christmas at Frozen Falls" is one of them. After being dumped by her fiancé a week before her wedding, Sylvie plans to change her honeymoon destination for a trip to Lapland with her best friend Nari, to the town of Saariselkä, hometown of her first love, Stellan, who broke her heart 15 years before.
I've always wanted to visit Lapland on Christmas, but after reading this book I NEED to go there. Right now, I don't even care it's not Christmas yet! I loved the detailed descriptions of the scenery, the finnish customs and traditions...and those puppies!! Could they be more adorable??
I simply adored this book and the characters (minus a couple of exceptions, you know who you are!!). Perfect read if you want to get into the Christmas spirit, even in the middle of summer. Definitely will check out the author's previous book.

I have noticed quite a few Christmas romance books being set in Lapland lately and I guess I can't blame the authors because from what I have read about the region it sounds a lot like a white Christmasy, frozen wonderland with the Northern Lights being the showstopper. I would love to experience the Northern Lights myself in the flesh someday! So it is easy to say the best part of this Christmasy, second chance romance was the experience that the author managed to give the readers of everything that is good and magical about the place.
The narration by Helen Duff was just average. I don't know what a Finnish accent actually sounds like so I can't say if she got it right or not. There were times, especially at the beginning, when I found her accents for the male protagonists a bit irritating and it distracted me from the story. In hindsight, I think I would have preferred reading the printed version of the book.

Christmas at Frozen Falls is a romance, a second chance story, and a bit of an armchair travel story all rolled into one. Sylvie Magnusson should be going on her honeymoon over the Christmas holidays, but her fiancé called off the wedding. She originally planned to go without him, but just couldn't do it. Instead, her friend Nari and her head off to Lapland to see the Northern Lights and celebrate the holidays near the North Pole. This reminds her of her University boyfriend, Stellan Virtanen, who was visiting and she fell head over heels. He disappeared and broke her heart, so imagine her surprise when she comes face to face with him at the resort she is staying at, his resort. There is still some feeling there and it doesn't take long for those feelings to rekindle. Meanwhile Nari, also meets someone who she becomes attracted to. Before you know it, neither woman wants to leave, but their time in Lapland comes to an end. What will they do?
I really liked Sylvie and felt bad for her. She was trying to deal with heartbreak, but her friends wanted to help her to get back to living. I’m rather partial to stories set in Scandinavia, and seeing the Northern Lights is right up there at the top of my very long bucket list, so this book was perfect for me from the outset. Add some gorgeous husky puppies and Christmas in Finnish Lapland and I am completely sold, and ready for the trip.
I loved Sylvie and her best friend Nari, so I became completely invested in them and their lives from the outset. I loved that while Sylvie reconnected with her ex-boyfriend Stellan, Nari had her own romantic adventure with the adorable, indigenous Niilo. I found myself immediately rooting for both couples, and hoping they got their happy ending.
I really enjoyed that the chapters were divided into the different perspectives, so the reader was immersed in the magical Christmassy world with a clear idea of who the characters really were, and just how genuine they were. This is the perfect book to read snuggled up under a blanket, although I must confess it did leave me googling flights to Lapland. Frozen Falls was such a beautiful location for a romance, and I think I loved the setting almost as much as I loved the characters! This was the first book I’ve read by Kiley Dunbar but it definitely won’t be the last!

Christmas in Lapland? Sounds like the perfect wintery setup. The cover and premise are so cozy and appealing.
Sylvie is jilted and rather than tuck her tale and hide, she wrangles her friend, Nari, and joins her in a wintery escape to see the Northern Lights. She bumps into her ex from long ago and jumps at the chance for closure.
The narrative was well done by Helen Duff and engaging but I did not love her "voices", particularly for Stellan. It was somewhat unpleasant and pulled me away from the story. I struggled a bit identifying who was talking at the beginning which made for more than a little confusion.

I loved this book. There’s a light hearted freshness to the writing and it fizzes with energy and anticipation throughout. Lovable characters and an amazing setting made this thoroughly enjoyable. Great read!
I’ve since reading the book also listened to the audio version which doesn’t disappoint and brings the story vividly to life. Great listen!

I liked this book so much that I literally read it from start to finish twice before reading any other books.
The descriptions are absolutely delicious. They made me want to climb right into the pages so that i could be stood there with the characters in the beautiful scenery. I know that it would be selfish to just turn up uninvited, but I so wanted to.
I haven't read a book before which is set in Finland for a lot of the story and will now look for more if they give me the feelings that this book did. I could literally feel the cold air on my face as I walked through the pages with the characters.
In my head, I joined them when they had something to eat or drink and I could even taste it.
This is the second of Kiley Dunbar's books that I have read and I loved it even more than the first.

2.5⭐️ but in the name of Christmas spirit, I’m rounding up.
SUPER cheesy and an easy read, but this exactly what I was looking for in my final book of the year. Modern romance books are not my thing at all, but this was a nice change of pace and a good book for downtimes during the busy holiday season.
The storyline is simple and the character dialogue is a bit immature and awkward at times (the characters are in their mid-thirties but talk like very young adults much of the time). Overall, the writing was just okay, but I’ve definitely read worse.
If you’re looking for a quick, festive, lighthearted romantic read, I recommend!

I’m always a bit of a pushover for a Christmas read – but I think this might just be the first time I’ve found myself reading one in August. And it wasn’t just “a little bit Christmas” – this was a full-on Christmas experience, set (mostly) in Lapland, complete with decorations, roaring fires, reindeer and huskies, snow and ice and a rather delicious man in a Santa suit. But whoever it was that decided to publish this book so very early, I forgive you completely – this book was just sheer gorgeousness from the first page to the last, and I loved every moment.
I was in Sylvie’s corner from the moment I met her – and given that Cole treated her so atrociously (and he hasn’t finished yet!), and that all she had to look forward to over the holidays was the Christmas Strictly special, who could blame her for having her arm twisted by friend Nari to try a break in Lapland instead of the cancelled honeymoon in Mauritius? And why not Saariselkä – maybe she can find out what happened to Stellan, her first love, who walked away and broke her heart?
I particularly loved her because of her really distinctive voice, consistent throughout – she has the most wonderful self-deprecating sense of humour and, despite our age difference, she was so very easy to identify with as she shared her every inner thought. Throughout the book, I laughed and smiled with her, felt her uncertainty and her pain, and really desperately wanted her to find her happy ending. But heavens, that family she’d tied herself up with – Cole’s mother is quite horrendous, those barbed comments that no-one else noticed, the way she favoured her son over his sister… brilliant observation, and such excellent writing!
But then we’re off to Lapland, and it’s a wonderful adventure – the whole setting is perfectly drawn, with all those magical Christmassy details, and the possibility of rekindling a rather special relationship. There are some of the most perfect touches – everyone will love the huskies, but there are some other lovely touches around the resort too, like the glass walls of the bedroom, the bare tree awaiting its decorations, the makings of an open fire. And then there’s that simply perfect Finnish carol service they stumble across. And the ice bar in the forest clearing. And might they get to see the Northern Lights? Oh, of course they will… along with finding out a great deal more about the benefits of a Finnish sauna.
I haven’t mentioned Nari much yet, but I did really like the fact that this was her story too. Her travel blog gives the story a nice contemporary edge – and despite her initial flightiness, she turned out to have unexpected depths, and I really enjoyed the way her character developed. Her friendship with Sylvie had a real warmth about it, and her developing relationship with Niilo was incredibly touching.
I’m aware I might just be making the whole book seem warm and rather fluffy, but I was also really impressed by the obvious research that must have gone into it – Finland is unfamiliar territory for me, and I learned a lot about the lifestyle and particularly about the lives and beliefs of the Sámi people. And although the story’s edges are mostly soft, there’s a particularly realistic depiction of heartbreak and loneliness – and the second chance romances with all their uncertainties are so very heartwarming and just perfectly handled. And as for the writing itself – it has a tremendous confidence about it, and the author has a perfect emotional touch.
That comparison with Carole Matthews? I thought it was absolutely spot on. A really special book, and an author to watch for the future… when you’re ready for a Christmas read, I’d highly recommend getting your hands on this one. As for me, I’m still wondering if I’d actually prefer a Christmas Lapland break or just the husky puppy…

Christmas at Frozen Falls is a sweet Christmas read about healing, friendship, and the one who got away.
Initially, I wasn't a fan of this book. It starts off months after the infamous 'dumping before the wedding' and even though I can understand Sylvie being devastated by the loss of the future she thought she'd have, I couldn't understand how she was still so broken when the evil-dumper, Cole, was a complete jackass and his mother sounds like the mother-in-law from the deepest darkest depths of hell! Sylvie dodged a massive bullet and I didn't feel she was grieving over the loss of her fiance so much as the loss of a fantasy future, if that makes sense? She was more upset about the dog - totally understandable - and it made her melodrama tedious.
But then, she and her best friend decide to head to Finnish Lapland for Christmas and this gets Sylvie thinking about the Finnish guy she loved back in Uni - Stellen - and you feel that connection, that loss, fresh and aching even though their relationship had ended fifteen years ago! Thus the story got more interesting and Sylvie got less annoying.
When the resort they go to happens to be Stellen's resort, you know what's going to happen (and let's face it, it's in the blurb) but it doesn't detract from the sweet, wonderful, journey of falling in love again with the one who got away.
It was so easy while reading this book to get swept off to snow-covered forests under a glowing sky... To smell the crisp coldness of the snow mixed with pine sap. To imagine yourself snuggled in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate beside a roaring fire.
It was magical, especially with the romance bubbling along beside you.
The ending had me smiling and happy but a little unsatisfied if I'm honest. Stellen and Sylvie had a happy for now ending. A nice, teasing, promise of a beautiful future if they could make it work. For some, that would be enough but I'm the type of gal who, in those circumstances, needs a flipping epilogue reassuring me that everything does indeed end happily.
Let's face it, people don't read romance for a reality check! Give us a cast-iron happy ever after, dammit!
Regardless of my minor grumbles, I recommend it if you want a mental trip to Lapland this year to play in the snow and play with some husky dogs!

I reckon Sylvie had a lucky escape when Cole dumped her a week before their wedding. I’m not sure how she stuck with him during their ten year engagement, to be honest, especially given his behaviour and with what would have been the mother-in-law from hell. But still, Sylvie didn’t relish the prospect of a miserable Christmas alone instead of honeymooning in newly wedded bliss on Mauritius.
Unable to get a refund after leaving it until the last minute, best friend Nari saves the day with the idea of a transfer to ‘Santa’s Enchanted Lapland.’ Sylvie chooses the resort of Saariselkä, not altogether unselfishly as she remembered Stellan, her first boyfriend who she had thought was ‘The One’, and knowing he lived there. When Stellan left her and went back home without a word, Sylvie always wondered why. Perhaps now, at last, she could find out…
The story is told mostly from Sylvie’s first person perspective, interspersed with other third person points of view, giving a greater understanding of each well drawn character’s thoughts and feelings. There’s obviously been a lot of research undertaken and I appreciated how Kiley Dunbar worked Finnish and Sámi traditions and culture into the narrative.
Sylvie is easy to identify with, the knock backs she’s had making her doubt herself but buoyed up by Nari, a confident, independent and seasoned travel blogger who loves her lifestyle. The friendship between the two is lovely. Stellan and Niilo, the reindeer herdsman at the resort and Stellan’s business partner as well as best friend, are perfect for the male leads and couldn’t be more different.
After reading this, I really want to spend a Christmas in Lapland, specifically at Frozen Falls (please don’t tell me it’s a fictional place!) The descriptions are magical—the snow, the modes of travel, the guest cabins and glass bedrooms with an unobstructed view of the night sky, hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire, sleigh rides…not forgetting the gorgeous husky pups, one in particular.
A lovely story of self discovery and second chances in a wonderfully vivid and Chrismassy setting.

The story is told mostly from Sylvie’s first person perspective, interspersed with other third person points of view, giving a greater understanding of each well drawn character’s thoughts and feelings. There’s obviously been a lot of research undertaken and I appreciated how Kiley Dunbar worked Finnish and Sámi traditions and culture into the narrative.
Sylvie is easy to identify with, the knock backs she’s had making her doubt herself but buoyed up by Nari, a confident, independent and seasoned travel blogger who loves her lifestyle. The friendship between the two is lovely. Stellan and Niilo, the reindeer herdsman at the resort and Stellan’s business partner as well as best friend, are perfect for the male leads and couldn’t be more different.
After reading this, I really want to spend a Christmas in Lapland, specifically at Frozen Falls (please don’t tell me it’s a fictional place!) The descriptions are magical—the snow, the modes of travel, the guest cabins and glass bedrooms with an unobstructed view of the night sky, hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire, sleigh rides…not forgetting the gorgeous husky pups, one in particular.
A lovely story of self discovery and second chances in a wonderfully vivid and Chrismassy setting.

I know for many it is too early to mention the 'C' word but the book on the blog today is more than just a festive story - it is a wonderful depiction of friendship, acceptance of the past, and strength to find happiness when things are not looking so great. Plus there is Christmas magic, beautiful settings, huskies, and hot chocolate to give you all the warm, fuzzy feelings as the evenings begin to get a little darker and chillier.
Sylvie does not want to face Christmas this year but she hasn't got much choice. She should have been going on her luxurious honeymoon with Cole, her husband. But that didn't happen because Cole called their wedding off, OVER THE PHONE, and left Sylvie to pick up the pieces of what their life would have looked like. But Sylvie has her best friend, Nari, and together they are going to go away, relax, and recharge. And Lapland seems to be the perfect choice. The beauty of Frozen Falls is sure to make anyone feel brighter and when Sylvie runs into Stellan, the one who got away all those years ago, things may just be starting to look up.
CHRISTMAS AT FROZEN FALLS by Kiley Dunbar is a wonderfully entertaining story set in a beautiful place and I found myself completely caught up in this book from start to finish. Sylvie has really been through the wringer with Cole but I loved how she is determined to try and enjoy herself for Nari's sake as well as her own. Their friendship really stood out the whole way through and it was lovely to read, but I enjoyed getting to know them separately as they tried to figure out their own love interests.
With plenty of mishaps and romance, CHRISTMAS AT FROZEN FALLS by Kiley Dunbar is simply magical and I highly recommend it to all romance and Christmas fiction readers.

What a truly beautiful setting! Although I couldn't imagine living with so much darkness and even more with the freezing cold every day, it sounds lovely spending a Christmas holiday in Finnish Lapland.
No wonder that Sylvie is so smitten with the Frozen Falls resort, and its owner! He was her boyfriend 15 years ago, and broke her teenage heart (and she stresses that she was a teenager - 19 - back then every time she mentions it, which is quite often) by running away from her after she said the L-word. When she appears at his doorstep now, he doesn't welcome her with open arms but reacts rather grumpy and abrasivly. Is that just the way Finnish men are, or does he really not feel a thing for Sylvie anymore.
I liked Sylvie as a character and could identify with her in some points. But her overly musing about the same things were also annoying in the latter part of the book. I also could have done without Nari & Niilos story, this seemed too forced.
Nevertheless, I would definitely read a sequel,

I just finished the book one minute ago and I just cannot wait to let you know how much I LOVED this book from first to last page! This book made me so emotional! I almost cried! I absolutely loved the storyline, loved the setting in Lapland, Finland (!!!! yes!) and loved the characters! This book is even more dear to my heart as I am half finnish and I miss Finland all year round when I am not there (I only visit in the summer). I felt like I was in Finland for a few hours thanks to Kiley Dunbar and her description for all things finnish is really accurate. Good job! Oh I loved this book so much! Cannot wait to read another book from this author! 5 stars out of 5 for "Christmas at Frozen Falls" for me!!!!!

Such an adorable read, I loved Stellan and Sylvie, I have one criticism only, it’s needs an epilogue, because I need to know more. But it’s such a lovely read, romantic and heartwarming, I couldn’t stop reading and it just makes you smile.

Sylvie is dumped by her fiancé a week before their wedding. Instead of going on their pre-booked romantic tropical trip, she switches the tickets and heads to the winter wonderland Lapland with her best friend, Nari. Coincidentally her Finnish college boyfriend from 15 years prior happens to own the resort where they are staying, and Sylvie can’t help but wonder if there’s still a spark between them.
The world building in this book was excellent. I absolutely loved all of the snowy, beautiful descriptions of Lapland. It made me want to go there myself someday. I really enjoyed all of the detail that went into what they had to wear in the extreme temperatures, it made it so realistic. I also liked that the author included Finnish traditions, culture, and indigenous history in the story. I feel like I learned so much about this area and it made for a very immersive reading experience.
Unfortunately, the world building had a lot more to offer then the plot. This book was wayyyyy longer then it needed to be and I found it difficult to stay engaged with the story. I didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between our two main love interests and found Sylvie to be whiny, naive, and boring. There were random chapters from other character’s points if view that were too sporadic to really gain traction. ALL of the narrators spent so. much. time. “wondering what the other person was thinking” and dissecting what had just happened. There was so much miscommunication and misunderstanding in this book and it was INCREDIBLY annoying. I know that is a trope in romance but wow, I just wanted to force them to all sit down and actually TALK to each other about their REAL feelings. It made for a very slow pace, capped by a weirdly rushed ending.
I’d love to visit this fictional world and it’s real life inspiration, just not with these characters.
