A woman vanished from a private island. She could be next. The fee was too good to resist. A woman vanished a year ago, and Lindy Shaw is tasked to investigate her disappearance. The victim must have been important because the mysterious client spared no expense to get her there. Had she known his identity, and if her current financial situation were not so grim, she would have turned him down in an instant.Instead, she travels to a remote island off the East Coast with a man she’d rather avoid, and where the residents keep their secrets close. One of them knows the truth, and she must find it before it finds her.
LOVED this book! I didn’t care much for the first book in this series so I didn’t have huge hopes for this book, but I was very pleasantly surprised! This book was very atmospheric, set in a large manor on the ocean on a remote island accessible only by boat. A journalist, injured in the line of duty, was paid handsomely to travel to this island under the guise of being engaged to the eldest son of the family that owned the island, and uncover the truth about the mysterious disappearance of the man’s sister. It had it all~mysterious, spooky house on the cliffs with an eerie foghorn, a potential murder, a fake engagement, enemies to lovers troupe, and even ghosts. This book was an awesome read, and I now eagerly anticipate beginning book #3 in the series.
As an investigative journalist, our heroine has been hand picked by a client to search for a woman who has vanished over a year ago. She's not really a detective, so she's not sure why they choose her for the job, but the money is GREAT and she really needs something after having been wounded on another assignment. So she accepts the job ... only to find out that the people hiring her are her ex-fiance and his best friend (who caused the break-up). If she wasn't so desparate, she'd turn around and go back home ... staying may be a mistake!!
The books just keep getting better and better! Absolutely love this series, and this book so far has been my favorite of the two I've read... Lindy's fiesty personality and quips had me laughing to tears several times! Loved the banter between she and Jayce in the beginning and the slow-burn build-up! Would love to read more adventures of the three friends.. and loved the Covington Cutse tie-in!
Slow moving at first with “character development” until a little more than halfway. First half was personal interaction between the characters. It’s like Lindy was reluctant to get on with solving the mystery. Once I got to the halfway point it was like a rollercoaster ride! The rest of the book was GREAT! Will be moving on to the 3rd book in the series soon. Recommend this book!
Fun to read and although the mystery is relatively easy to solve because of the limited number of characters, the whole setup is appealing. I feel this is an improvement over the first novel which is unrelated. Given a choice, read this one first!
The story itself was fair...I wished it had more mystery and more romance...the story of it Self, needed a punch in the arm...but I did love the characters.
Pretty nice sequel i like the characters okay. The setting is so remote and other than oh wait i cant talk about that without spoiling it. You will like
