Wren Delacroix #4

The Bone Winter

Rate this book
Months have passed since the events in the woods behind the compound, and with no new cases, the task force might be shut down. Wren Delacroix could leave town, but she lingers, even without any work.

And then, there’s a report from a local hospital of a possible angel of death serial killer and the questionable deaths of a number of elderly patients. Wren and Reilly begin interviewing nurses. There’s a strong possibility this killer is female, and she may be nearly impossible to catch.

But it seems that nothing in Cardinal Falls can escape the reach of the Fellowship or the shadow of the Crimson Ram. Soon, the two find themselves delving into the past, to the crime over a decade ago at “the tower,” where one madman claims serial killers were birthed in blood.

And what was born in Wren herself back then? The deeper she digs, the more she fears that she’ll unearth unchecked violence within herself. After everything she’s been through lately, she’s… changed. Harder. Angrier.

Outside, it’s frozen February. Inside, it’s hot turmoil.

Wren & Reilly are still waiting for Hawk's upcoming trial hoping there's enough evidence to nail him for the murders. There's a new case involving hospital patients being murdered and delving deeper they find ties to the cult. The threads lead them to the tower where murders occurred years before from cult members. A hospital employee on the suspect list lived at the compound and Wren recognizes her and more childhood memories and conflicting stories are brought to life. The crimson ram is still being blamed and now there's another serial killer on the loose that was released from prison. Wren and Reilly take their working relationship to a new level while Wren tries to break free from the hold that her mother and Hawk still hold over her. Only irritating thing is that Wren keeps trying to bend suspects to fit her profiles. Onto the next in the series

Good read

3 months pass after the last murders, Wren is Door Dashing for extra cash.
Then the task force is given a new case. An Angel of Death. Patients die in hospitals, right? But when one passes and the family presses for an autopsy, they discover drugs in her system that shouldn't have been there.
A separate murder occurs on the compound, the killer is someone Wren discovers *almost* immediately because of the type of "signature" the killer leaves behind.
Things heat up between Wren and Reilly but quickly sizzles out.

I had my suspicion who the Angel of Death was and it was true. The storyline was great and kept me turning pages all day to finally know the ending.

The Bone Winter: A serial killer thriller( Wren Delacroix Book 4)

This is my fourth read and the story keeps getting better. Very intriguing. Seen is a good profiler, she is a mess but it makes her more interesting. The characters in this book are great. Will she ever get over Hawk? Will she form a healthy relationship? These are steadily answered as the books to on. She was raised in a cult, she carries that with her. Will she get to know her partner better? Read to find the answers, its more complicated then it first appears. That is the appeal!

It's All About the Cult

Wren continues to track serial killer and it seems that they all have ties back to the cult that Wren's mother lead and where Wren grew up. Her values are different because of her upbringing and it makes her better at understanding murderous behavior so she can track the killers.

It also makes it more difficult to understand relationships and interpret her feelings. Let's see what happens next in book 5.

Not as good as I expected.

There are more suspenseful parts towards the end, but the main plot was a bit boring, and the Wren and Hawk thing is worn out. Reilly and Wren makes no sense. It just seems as though the story ran it's course and now its just stuff being put together. If I keep on with this series, I can only hope it gets back on course.

Capital Bizarre

Though slightly entertaining it was unbelievable tale of bizarre life styles and beliefs. Demons, horned rams, tower murders, cult followers and just plain weird.

I have always enjoyed the stories of V.J. Chambers, and this one is no different. There is a possibility that the task force might be closed due to no new cases, then a local hospital reports a possible angel of death working there with the elderly. But that's not all, the Fellowship is back and it could lead to Wren's past. Another great story that will have you making extra coffee to read.
