Wild Thing

Rate this book

After a dark past, a teenage girl comes back from the dead and becomes a hit-man for a clan of immortals. ‪

Some people are born into this world kicking and screaming. They calm down and manage to find a way to fit into society. They have a mother and a father or perhaps only one of those two. Alexandria Abrelle was the name that had appeared on her birth certificate. Lexy had never known this girl. Lexy had come quietly and subserviently into the world, born to a mother, in a coma during her gestation. She was taken from her mother’s womb as she slipped away into her next life.

Lexy had been living in group homes and foster care as long as she could remember. There had only been a few that felt right, but either she’d outgrown them or perhaps …they just hadn't wanted her anymore. She’d never been given a reason. When it came time to leave the last home she’d been at for a few years, she decided to run away with a few of the older ones. They were all tired of allowing someone else to control their lives. They'd planned to hitchhike across the country. It had seemed like a brilliant idea at the time.

She had been reborn in a place far worse than any version of hell, one could imagine. After many years lost in places void of humanity, Grey found her.  He introduced her to a partially immortal family.  She’d been saved in so many ways by the Ankh. They were the family that she had always been destined to find. They would teach her to embrace the dragon that resided within. She would learn that both the dark side of her spirit and light were equally important. Lexy would learn of necessary evil.

Kim Cormack is the always comedic author of the darkly twisted epic paranormal romance series, "The Children of Ankh." She worked for over 16 years as an Early Childhood educator in preschool, daycare, and as an aid. She has M.S and has lived most of her life on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. She currently lives in the gorgeous little town of Port Alberni. She's a single mom with two awesome kids. She has a son in grade 10 and another son in University at VIU. If you see her back away slowly and toss packages of hot sauce at her until you escape.

(If you've noticed my older daughter vanish from this bio. He's my son, I love him, and that's that. I'm in the process of changing every bio.)

A personal note from the author...

I began writing this series shortly after my M.S diagnosis. I had many reasons to fight. I had incredible children, a wonderful family, and amazing friends but this series gave me a purpose. Whenever things become dark, I use my imagination to find the light within myself. No matter what life throws your way, you are stronger than you believe. My hope is that the character's strength becomes an inner voice for the readers that need it. Stand back up and if you can't stand... Rise up within yourself. We are all beautiful just as we are. We are all immortal.

All heroes are born from the embers that linger after the fire of great tragedy...

She slept a dreamless sleep free of dragons for she had slain them once again...

Do you love a strong heroine? Awesome, because Lexy is here!

I loved, absolutely loved this story! I love some dark edginess to my storyline and this author delivered big time! I love the interplay between Lexy and her handler, Grey.
How heartbreaking to at times. No spoilers here.
I love that Lexy came back from such a dark place and uses it to do what she needs to. How strong and ironic is that?
The background supporting characters are fun and interesting, and give us hope for a follow up book! I especially love her sexy style when she has something to be emotionally shut down for, not in the bad way! It's how she changes. Wonderfully written. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was given this book in return for an honest review.

I worked through this book like crazy! The description of this book had me hooked, like what?!!
I absolutely loved Lexy and her character and how she became a hit-man. That got me hooked in this book.

Lexy and her handler, Grey had a story that nothing could compare to at all. This whole book was a heart breaking read, but how Lexy stood strong and kept going is beyond words that I could type.

Kim Cormack is absolutely notorious for her delightfully fleshed out protagonists, enticing and interactive concepts with engaging plot follow-through, and delightful arrays of inclusive side characters and visionary worldbuilding. Cormack has a way of crafting his story, masterfully interwoven with progressive world building, action, and delving deeply into his characters persona without overdoing one thing or another. What a fantastic psychological drama. A real page-turner. It had me hooked from page one until the last page and kept me awake until the early hours to finish it. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist threw my theory awry. The author had me fooled, and that doesn’t often happen. I received this novel from Story Origin. This is my true and honest review

The opening chapters of Wild Thing are very disturbing. Every indignity and abuse that can be heaped on a human being are visited upon Lexy from the tender age of 11. I did not know if I could read this book due to this but I persevered and when Lexy is able to affect her own existence I was able to get lost in the story. What a story it is. Fleshed out characters that you care for and want to follow , you HAVE to know what happens to them. This is the first of this author's books that I have read and I will continue. I have to know.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

My Review: No spoilers here but man was this one dark and yummy. Lexy was fabulous and I just loved all the character devlopment. The author did a fabulous job with it. I will say that it was slightly confusing to start but once you get going its a great book. The pacing was spot on and the world was wonderful. The start of this one was very violent so be warned. I fell for the characters and this world and could not put it down.

Go Into This One Knowing: Graphic violence against children and adults, very disturbing situations.

*This book has triggers of child sexual abuse and physical abuse. This story is about the children of immortals and how they interact with each other. There are three Clans called Ankh, Trinity, and Triad. The Clans vie for the children who are close to the age of 18 to include them in their Clan. This book contains a plethora of violence, romantic encounters, and ends in a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.

I received an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a wild ride this book was. It was very dark, but there was always a light at the end of the road no matter what happened. The book deals with children of immortals and their life before they either die or become part of an immortal clan. You can have no distractions while reading this book. The details the author puts in the book makes it come alive. I will definitely read another book by this author!

Kim is so very clever! The story starts cleanly, in simple sentences, and then, as time passes and Lexy grows, the storytelling develops as well to encompass descriptions and philosophical dilemmas.

It's a complex concept, a fascinating main character and an intriguing plot. So I'm happily reading on to the next book!

Great book. Like wow. The trials. The way the book was written was different then I'm used to. But it was so good. Lots of action and life. Lots of anticipation for what happeneds next. I loved to see the lives of the immortals unfold. I loved reading something new that I don't normally read. It was a great book. Can't wait to get into book 2.

Wild Thing is the first book in the Children of Ankh spin-off series, C.O.A. Lexy was an amazing character (not that I'm a little biased) . She rose from the darkness she was in, like a phoenix...it was glorious! I was rooting that she would.

Wild thing is a bit darker and a bit gritty than Kim Cormac's previous series. But, it was still so good.

Wonderful storyline. Enjoyable characters. Very good scene descriptions. I saw each place and occurrence in my mind. So I would recommend to anyone above 16yrs of age. It’s more than clean enough for teenagers above that age. Below that I think parental guidance would be advised. This book was well worth the time I spent reading it.

A mostly cracking read

A very powerful and disturbing origin story for Lexy. When the tale switched to the present, I found some of the repeated story from Kayn's series a bit tedious. There were a lot of typos too, which are irritating. Overall tho another great tale

To get to know Lexy was fantastic. With reading the series of Children of the Ankh, she seems just like Kayn in so many ways. So hope there is more the Children of the Ankh series.

I was given an ARC from Story Origin and this is my honest review:

The Wild Things is a mix of horror, growth, love and friendship. We begin the story with such a horror show you are sucked right into the life of a child who loses her innocence to become something much more. I loved the progression of the story and there were parts that I was completely engrossed in. The main character Lex does show some growth and I can totally see the actual child dealing with life lessons. There were also some parts that I couldn't see where the story was actually trying to go but the mix of true life situations with the fantasy mix was great.
All in all I did enjoy the story line and will continue on with the series.

I give this book 4 fangs

I received this book and had never heard of the series or author, I have read a lot of paranormal romance and even though that is the genre this book is in I would classify it as paranormal/ horror romance. I had a difficult time reading the beginning it is very graphic with violence and depravities against an 11 yr old girl Lexy the Heroine and some other children.
I try very hard to judge books only against themselves not to compare them to other books I've read because this is not one I probably would have chosen on my own due to the graphic violence. However I actually became enthralled by the story behind the half immortal children that must survive their correction and the happenings of the children of ankh.
Lexy is amazing so strong and courageous she is a dragon that has risen above everything that was done to her and is unstoppable against anything that gets in her way. As she grows and adjusts to her immortal life she must learn about the world and how to function in everyday situations that are completely foreign to her because of her childhood or lack there of.
Through her handler Gray another child of ankh she discovers what it is to care and be cared for to love and be loved although a cruel fate is at hand and she can never have the one she truly wants.
This story is very well written the characters are very in depth and I felt very connected to them. Through all their trials and situations their is a level of humor not unlike some horror movies where there are people killing zombies but you there is humor in the situations. It's a dark twisted humor and it's certainly not for everyone.
I would like to read more about the characters both secondary and the main ones.

Their is graphic violence against children and adults and very disturbing situations.

Wild Thing is a spin off series from the Children of Ankh series. Some of the characters I loved from Sweet Sleep are in Wild Thing.

This is Lexy's story. She had an horrific childhood and her early adult life wasn't much better. She has known nothing but pain and violence until Grey shows up looking for her in her middle of nowhere cabin. He tells her about family and protection, two things she has never known. Lexy senses that Grey is honest and for some reason calms her and willingly goes with him.

Lexy has so much to learn about proper human interaction and about herself. This is a journey of self discovery and survival. Kim Cormack tells us about violence, abuse, loyalty, friendship and love. Your emotions will run the gamut. I was horrified, sad, frustrated, happy and amused. Even had a few awwwww moments.

Lexy's violent outburst are sometimes terrifying and other times amusing when she unleashes on Tiberius.

Tiberius teased, “Looks like your evil plot to dismember me has been thwarted young lady.” “Oh, I can put it off for a few minutes for the sake of public entertainment,” Lexy sparred. Tiberius’s eyes lit up and he chuckled, “Bad ass psychotic chicks have always turned my crank. By the way, you look unbelievably sexy in red.”

Lexy has strong feelings for Grey and a strange hate/love/hate thing going on with Tiberius.

Grab a copy and enjoy the ride.

Lexy is an orphan who has bounced from one home to the next most of her life. When she is eleven a bunch of kids at the group home she is at decide to leave and go out on their own. She ends up splitting off from them after one boy abuses her for not agreeing with the way they doing things. She ends up taking a ride from a stranger and that is where things go from bad to worse. He takes her to a farm were she is abused and raped and lives in unimaginable circumstances. She finally finds her inner Dragon and can leave that place. She hides for two years before Grey finds her and takes her to the Ankh. There they explain what she is and can do. Grey becomes her handler because he calms her inner Dragon. She is constantly being tested over and over again.

This book has some graphic violence seems involving children. I had a hard time reading it in the beginning but at the same time I needed to see that Lexy escaped or had revenge. There must be something with the authors writing that kept me hooked. I also was had to keep reading to see if Grey and Lexy would finally be together. Their relationship was heartbreaking. I was very interested in Lexy' s Dragon. I found the whole story very interesting and full of imagination.
I would recommend this book to any one who enjoys paranormal romance that is a bit on the dark side.

Wild Thing by Kim Cormack is an exciting adventure into the author’s creative mind. As a young girl Lexy is subject to the worst forms of punishment and life one can imagine. The people on the dark farm keep he caged in a stall, feed her water of the dead and throw her into a pit of death. She watches a young girl whom she’d grown fond of die in her arms. Her life is the worst imaginable hell. But that life is what makes her a fierce. Dragon. She lacks emotion, and doesn’t care. She kills those who persecute or hunt her. Once she meets the Ankh, her life changes forever.
This book is gory, gritty, and suspenseful. Cormack weaves a violent web that had me cheering for Lexy and hating those who tormented her. Wild Thing is a spin-off of her Children of the Ankh series, where the reader is first introduced to Lexy. Wild Thing is Lexy’s story. The plot is similar as the reader follows Lexy’s life, her introduction to the Ankh, immortal life, and Enlightenment but it’s uniquely different as Kayn’s story was mild in comparison. The author’s take on immortal beings is distinctive. They aren’t necessarily glorious creatures or vampires. They are kids, each with their own story.

OH MY WORD!!!!!! Kim did it again, she pulled me in and didn't let me go till the last period and left me wanting more.

Lexy the first dragon of Ankh, traumatized by evil, brutally killed, faught her way back to become a force to be reckoned with. Between the drama, trauma, comedy and romance perfectly intertwined you will not be disappointed. Take a walk in Lexy's shoes. Could you survive and find your humanity again?
