After protecting a village from a horde of goblins, a certain young man is called Goblin Slayer for the first time. One day, while slaughtering yet another group of goblins, he finds a ring that glows with a mysterious light. He has the ring appraised by an eccentric magician known as Arc Mage, who, in exchange, requests his assistance in compiling a monster manual for the Guild. What section will he help research? The one about goblins, of course! With a single ring—and a single light—a brand-new story begins.
Brilliant. This being the manga companion to the light novel covering the team up of the Arc Mage with our hero Goblin Slayer. I found this to be an intriguing story in the light novel format. It was rich, mysterious and left an unforgettable ending. A unique one that I've never quite seen before in fantasy. This manga covers the initial meeting between the great hero and Goblin Slayer which is nice call back to their encounter later on. Then the healing of Goblin Slayer through a chance encounter of characters when Priestess unknowingly uses her powers to save him. The rest of the manga covers the start of his adventure with Arc Mage. Having relished the light novel I already know the ending, but can't wait to see how it plays out in the next manga edition.

What this volume lacks in action it gains in insight and intrigue i rather enjoy seeing how one uses their mind to become a more proficient adventurer.
With major threats defeated the story must move on.
We get plenty of interesting stuff in his volume as we explore the early days in Goblin Slayer's career as an adventurer. With the defeat of the Rock Eater there are any brave but injured adventurers and the Temple of the Earth Mother is more then willing to accommodate them as they lick their wounds and wind down from their near death experiences. In the mean time likewise exhausted after an all out Goblin Slaying to save a town he has decided to come home but did not quite make it as he was pulled into the church along side other fatigued folks. Within this scene if you keep an eye out you will see a talent being born and a future adventurer finding themselves interwoven into GS's destiny even in his early days.
In this volume Cow Girl (I never liked that name) is looking to improve herself a little more with a fresh cut and perhaps get GS to notice her a bit more. However GS will also meets the interesting Arc Mage who seems to compliment GS's straight man image and is not afraid to get a little dirty as the two of them seek out new goblins together. I'd like to say Arc Mage would make a great adversary for Cow Girl but I haven't heard of Arc Mage in the regular series and GS is kind of asexual so it probably won't matter. :)
