Foxy Witch #1

Box of Puppets

Rate this book
Witch. Kitsune. Crazy cat lady.

Hey there! My name is Mei. Normally, I’m a ‘roll with the punches’ kind of girl, but I fear I’m going insane. I say things I do not think and do things I cannot control. My reality has become a nightmare. I feel like a puppet dangling from frayed strings.

Three vampire hunters alter my course when they stumble into me one night. Plagued by the same instability, they work their way into my life and my head. Together, we must try to find a way out of our madness. Hopefully.

Sounds like I have a plan, right? Wrong. You see, I have a couple of other problems that are pretty pressing as well. I’m almost sure that my boyfriend, Finn, is going to ask me to marry him. And, well, I can’t stand him. Oh, and there are a few other things, but I can’t tell you about them just yet. That would spoil the surprise.

Throughout it all, my search for the truth never falters. Insanity is the easier answer, but no one ever said life is easy.

**********

Box of Puppets is the beginning of a slow burn, reverse harem series. This means that she will not choose between men in the end. It does have cursing and some violence. It may not be suitable for all readers.

This book was a whole ass ride. The first couple of pages i was so confused, then things started to make a little sense, but the air of confusion and wtf is happening was strong throughout the book.

Our main character Mei is a witch living in a very strange town, she is dating a handsome dragon shifter that she absolutely hates. Living with her cat Mr Whiskers/Penny. While on a date with her boyfriend Finn, she gets "introduced" to 3 hunters, Nash, Derek and Roper.

There's no romantic actions between her and the hunters, some flirting so this is a proper slow burn.

Its best to go into this blind, to get the full experience of wtf crazy.

I must admit that i had no clue what the cause of all the chaos is so the end reveal took me by complete surprise. I dont think i've read this type of plot before in rh and it makes me super excited to continue to see how everything unfolds.

If you like this author's other books, you will love this one

Aster North does it again. This series is going to be amazing. If you like a bit of mystery, then this is a great book to read. You need to be patient with this book, cause it starts out really weird but not in a bad way.

So Mei is dating Finn, a guy she doesn't even like. However she gets this tingle like feeling and her body just does It's own thing but she knows that her brain is functioning right just not her body. She is not the only one. This is where some of the confusion is because I was like oh crap did I miss something. So read on it gets better. There is so many twist and turns but you get clarity and everythinh falls in place. She also meets Nashron, Roper and Derek Who are acting the same way. So what is there deal. What is going on? We do get some answers and some still remain to be seen.

Overall the mystery of what is going on kept me wanting to know what is going on. I loved it. Be prepared for those twist? Don't miss out on this series.

Author or Puppeteer??

Epitome of craze... Living personally, physically, Metaphysically, Subconsciously and all Consciously simultaneously, wonderfully... Either the author or some writer in the mind of the author plunging and swinging from topic to topic in different stories, episode to episode in different works, played the magical havoc and Box of Puppets has emerged... The Readers become puppets in the hands of Aster North giggling around..

Wow! An awesome story (with a creepy cover)

This was such a great book! I almost didn't read it because of the cover. I know, I know, "don't judge a book by its cover" but this one was really off putting. After being recommended to me both by Amazon and in a book group, I had to check it out. Boy am I glad that I did!

I knew by the end of chapter one that I was going to like this book. I was very intrigued with the storyline (split personality? Being "dropped" in traffic?) and was hoping for something interesting. This book definitely delivered.

The story is a little confusing at first but our FMC is confused, so that makes sense. Persist and everything will come together. It's a slow burn, PNR RH, with first-person POV. Its lighthearted and funny, not too much drama and no triggers. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a good time!

This book started out very bizarre and I wasn’t sure what to think of it. It seemed like a lot of bouncing around going on and I was having trouble keeping up. However, further into the book things become more clear and I found myself immersed in the story unable to put it down. The FMC Mei is so quirky and fun that I loved her almost instantly. The men in the book are to die for and it’s hard to pick a favorite. This book had so many twists and turns and I definitely was not expecting the ending. I can’t wait to see how the series continues.

Totally new concept

This book held my attention from the get go. I never knew what was going to happen. Even by the end of the book I was still surprised constantly. I'm giving this book five stars, because of the concept that's totally new, and because I like the characters. I'm personally not going to read any more books in the series, mostly because I don't think this story is for me. I would definitely recommend people to read this book, because the story itself is really intriguing and well done. I'm sure lots of people will enjoy it.

Oh my God I literally just finished this. It was amazing, laugh out loud funny, and unbelievably unique. At first I was seriously confused but intrigued and then once I stop thinking so much I begin to understand what was happening and the meaning of the title and how that came into play. Miss North has a wacky yet hilarious sense of humor in her books and that humor definitely shined through with Mei. I can’t wait for the next one! I couldn’t put it down after getting it yesterday. Astor North you rock!

I really enjoyed reading this. The story grabbed me from the moment that I started and I had a hard time putting it down when it was time to go to work. From the moment that you start reading you will be hooked. It moves along at a great pace which is neither too fast nor too slow but a comfortable reading speed. The characters are amazing and you feel as though you have known them forever and the story will grab you and not let you down. This book needs to be read and to be on your TBR list, there is no doubt about it.

I'm left kind of confused after reading this book. Overall, the idea of all the characters actually being storybook characters on and off the clock was interesting; something I've never heard of before. However, the road to that explanation wasn't quite solid. I understand how, with this idea, you need to keep some things under wraps, but I feel like some holes could have been filled. The relationship aspect was also left hanging, and the epilogue insinuated that it would be starting all over again in the next book. So, while I was intrigued by this book, it only gets three stars from me.

Fascinating new story

Wow! That was fantastic! Definitely one of the top 10 best books I've read this year. And I've read over 250 books this year so that's saying a lot.

I just love how original this story idea is. I don't think I've ever read anything like it. Mei is a funny, sarcastic character. I loved her snark. I didn't feel like we really got to know the guys as much as I wanted. Hopefully that changes in book 2 though. I can't wait to read the next one!

Amazing, Really Brilliant, so many twists and turns. I had no idea what was happening and was clearly hanging on for the ride.
Mei is trapped in a loveless relationship she doesn't want and can't seem to break out of, what is a witch to do.
Amazing storyline, had a smile on my face the whole way through. A must read.

It starts out like what is happening and is this really the story? Is she being mind controlled, is she imagining everything and how does she keep ending up at home? I loved the concept and was captivated to see where it went. I did not see the twist at the end but can't wait to see what happens next.

SMH

Scratching my head not shaking it. I am not sure what to say about this book. It is interesting and confusing yet gripping. You have to keep reading to see what happens next and when it does happen you are left wondering what the heck is going on? It kind of has a 'Neverending story' vibe to it and I suspect when the series is complete, it is going to be epic. I cant wait

Plenty of crazy

In a town where everything is going kooky Mei's life is no different. Forced to live a life that she doesn't want she's determined to get to the bottom of it.
This book has moments that will make you laugh and there is plenty of crazy things to go around.

Jump into the mystery and see if you can figure it out.

I really enjoyed this. Mei is snarky af and just lets everything roll right off of her. I was hoping to see more interaction with the guys, but it all made sense toward the end! Definitely a twist I wasn't expecting, even with the 'Matrix' vibes. I look forward to reading book two and seeing how it all develops!

changes in location ... not acting like herself ... had she done this before? ... Mei is a witch that is having trouble understanding what is happening to her ... she feels trapped ... Mei thought once she met the Hunters things were starting to work out, until she was "sent back" to her place ... what is Mei missing? ... the answer will shock you!

Ok, that was...weird but interesting

Ok, so this was definitely different. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure how it will progress. Which is the point, I'm sure. It's a super slow burn. Like, no burn and all character and world building in this book. Which I'm also good with. So, overall I like it. I will read the next book if only to see wtf is going on.

Amazing Author

This story was awesome! Quite the twist at the end; not what I was expecting at all. I started following her after reading one book of hers. I'm very glad I didn't miss this one.

4-5 out of 5 stars
I was sooo confused the first 10 to 20%, so it took me a while to get into the book and it took me even longer to like the characters. By the end of it I do and I really enjoyed reading it and I can't wait to read the next book of the series.

Plot was a convoluted mess. I get where the author was trying to go, but I don't think it was executed as smoothly as it could have been.
