The Book of Genesis: Firstfruits (The Passion Translation

Rate this book
The Book of Genesis is God’s autobiography and the foundation upon which all revelation rests. The purpose of this book is to give the origin of all things, including the cosmic order of the universe and the covenant relationship between God and his people.

Speaking the Word from his eternal dwelling place of light, God fashioned everything from nothing, perfectly displaying his awesome wonder. We will never be able to take the mystery out of Creation, for a God who is incomprehensible in his greatness accomplished it.

One of the over-arching themes of Genesis is God’s blessing. His highest order is not the earth or the cosmos, it is man and woman, made after his kind, to be containers for his glory. Genesis showcases God’s redemptive heart toward the world—a theme that can be traced throughout the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures.

When God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was completely formless and empty, with nothing but darkness draped over the deep. God’s Spirit swept over the face of the waters.
And then God “Let there be light,” and light burst forth!

Having read and loved all of the other Passion translations, here’s my quick assessment on this one:
5 stars - the book of Genesis
3 stars - the commentary (really what you’re paying for)
2 stars - the translation (in the corpus of other translations, this one seems unnecessary)

Highlight for me was Joseph. Maybe because book finishes w him? But he is an incredible Jesus type. Infused w power and favor from God. The blessing on the brothers at the end is 💯.

Joseph is a fruitful vine, abiding from the tree of life.
His fruit climbs any way.
Persecuted? Yes. But steady.
Power of God strengthened him, the Rock. The stone Jacob laid his head on at the base of the ladder to heaven dream?

God blesses him w blessings of heaven. Surpassing blessings of ancestors. Set apart.

Jacob was righteous in Christ, simply through belief. We are as well. These blessings from God are ours. Ty Jesus.

The book of Genesis is one of my most favorite books in the Bible. Reading this in TPT was so enriching to my normal Bible version. What I enjoyed the most was all of the extra stuff added for you to read on the bottom of the pages. Not just personal opinion, commentary. It’s actual informational material to help you better understand what you’re reading, in context to the time it was written.

As usual, the footnotes maketh the translation.

The lovely thing about the footnotes is that they are both academic and devotional in nature, my favourite combination.

First of all, let me say, I love the Passion Translation. The words of the great Bible stories that I know so well were greatly enhanced by the footnotes. Powerful!!!

Don’t get me wrong, I liked it.
