Once you’ve been cooking for a large family it’s hard to downsize into just cooking for two. I like how the author says, “You’ll learn how it can advance your health goals, satisfy your taste preferences, and fit your budget.” I’m all about those goals.

Just the thought of meal prep for a week makes me stressed. I’m so glad the author makes the meal prep simple, and doable. I like the benefits such as sticking to eating healthier, avoid eating out, maximize time and minimize stress, spend less money, and become better cooks. I’m all about this too. I like how the author breaks down choirs and tells how to discuss and take into consideration each person’s nutritional needs.

I found the discussion about what containers to use and why and the section on how to store food properly very helpful along with the shopping list, list of equipment needed with containers and step by step prep instruction.

I liked the variety of gluten free, nut free, vegan meal options. Some of the meals I’d like to try are Pumpkin Quinoa Power Bowl, Rosemary Popcorn, Sheet Pan Ratatouille with Roasted Salmon, Greek Turkey Burgers, Sheet Pan Pesto Chicken and Asparagus with Gnocchi, Dark Chocolate Beet Smoothie, Superfood Blender Waffles, and Grown Up Mac and Cheese and a list of other eye catching recipes.

Each recipe has the prep time, cook time and how many servings it makes along with the nutritional break down of the dish. There are recipe tips, and reheat and freeze instructions I found very helpful. I’m excited to dig into these meals and lean all the author has to teach me. The only thing I wanted more of from this book were more pictures of the recipes.

I was looking for a cookbook with recipes where you prepped the meal in advance but cooked it the day needed. This was a cook in advance book. In addition, the plan had you eat the same meal 2-3 times in a week. We rarely do that. I make a meal with leftovers for next day lunch and that is all. Basically, this book did not fit our lifestyle at all.

Author Casey Seiden states that "Meal Prep for Two: 8 Weekly Plans and 75 Recipes to Get Healthier Together" is designed to prioritize health, build simple and balanced meals, save time and money, and take the stress out of meal planning and food preparation. Sections include "Start the Day Together"; "Workweek Ready"; "Better Than Takeout"; "Mediterranean Staycation"; "Beat the Heat"; "Cold Comfort"; "Flexitarian"; "Weekday Warriors". The recipes cover "Breakfasts"; "Lunches and Dinners"; "Staples and Sauces" and "Snacks". some good recipes, but lacking in many ways

About half of the books I own are cookbooks, so I might be a bit more critical than I used to be. This one had some good ideas in it and a few good recipes, but was disappointing to me in several ways. First of all, I really missed pictures of the finished meals. Secondly, I felt a good number of the meals used a lot of ingredients that the normal cook won’t have on hand - and if you are cooking for two, it’s often hard to use up the rest of a container of something you only needed a small amount of. And third, there was a lot of mention about partners and couples - as someone who does not have a “live in” partner, I felt it was more aimed at married couples - while I was wanting a more neutral book that would be aimed at meal prep for two people of whatever grouping. Towards the end, I felt that the book had more to do with the author’s partner than with food prep.

This book was received as an ARC from Callisto Media - Rockridge Press in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

We always get questions about quick and easy cookbooks that you can make for just two people that have healthy, delicious, and money saving recipes in them and I can not wait to share this book with our community. I am always so fond of what you can make with the ingredients you have in your fridge and pantry. All of the recipes look so easy and delicious and I can not wait to try them especially the lazy shakshuka and the loaded lox roll ups and I know our cooking demo group will love this book from beginning to end.

We will consider adding this title to our Cookbook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This cookbook's photos are sure to make you hungry!  Hopefully, they will also inspire you to try some of the recipes.  There are suggestions for every meal of the day plus snacks.  A few of the recipes included are for Mushroom Asparagus Quiche with Quinoa Crust, Vietnamese Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Skillet Zucchini Lasagna and Angel Hair Pasta with Herb Roasted Asparagus and Halibut. The book includes shopping lists and needed equipment. The recipes themselves appear to be clear and easy to follow.  There are additional sections in the book on Measurement Conversions, Resources and References as well as an introduction that is packed with information.   All in all, this looks like a great cookbook.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this read in exchange for an honest review.

What a great cookbook to help eat more meals at home as well as healthier lunches to take with you to work. This instructions are easy to read and the food is easy to prepare.

With the bonus of shopping lists throughout the book, you can either take the book shopping or screenshot the list to have with you.

Sure book to wipe away the excuse that meal prep is too time consuming!

I recommend this book.

I'm always on the hunt for meal prep books, especially anything easy and able to be eaten cold. We don't have microwave access at work, which can be a bummer.
This book starts out simply, with only a couple meals and snacks to prep for the week, and works up to an entire week of meals and snacks. I liked that. It also includes a map of sorts, telling you the most efficient way of doing that week's recipes. Handy if you're following the recipes for the week.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

Meal Prep for Two is a tutorial and recipe guide for weight loss written and curated by Casey Seiden. Released 15th Oct 2019 by Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 190 pages and available in paperback and ebook format.

The book follows a logical format. Chapter 1 gives some background on the process and the benefits of meal-prep and planning as well as a very general layman-accessible discussion of the mechanics of prepping, safe food handling, and the helpful equipment which will support the organization and storage. There is a lot of good advice in these chapters which is applicable to any meal prep and planning sessions, not just for the recipes in this collection.

The meal plan chapters include a surprisingly varied selection of multiple day to weekly meal plans with different tastes and representing different world cuisines: Italian, American, Asian fusion, and more.

The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. The ingredients are all easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. The author has provided weekly plan shopping lists which are very handy. Nutritional information for the servings is provided in a footer at the bottom of each recipe.

It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. The book also includes a short author bio, and a metric conversion chart, as well as interactive resources, supplies, and references lists. There is no index. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.

My one small quibble with the book is that the recipes are mostly not photographed. There are some photos, and they're clear and attractive, but they only represent about 5% of the recipes.

Well done. This book would make a great gift/housewarming for someone looking for sensible weight loss recipes as well as fans of food prep planning / batch cooking.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

A great cookbook for anyone who is looking to lose a few extra pounds. I really liked how easy to use this book is. You get, prep days for each day of that week, a shopping list for all ingredients you will need, equipment that you will need to make the recipes and at the end of each recipe, you get reheat instructions along with freeze instructions.

The salad in the jar recipes is very easy to take to work. Some of the ingredients you may not know but I checked just about all of them and my local Kroger carries the ingredients so they are easy to find. Recipes are detailed by step and easy to follow.

I would recommend this book to any couple looking to lose a few pounds, this is simple and a quick way to stay on track.
