Amplifier #3

Mystics and Mental Blocks

Rate this book
Three days. That was all the reprieve we got before one of the Five showed up, injured and on the run. The snowstorm that had encased the property, as well as stifled the town, hadn’t even melted away.

That wounded prey led our newest adversary directly to me, to Christopher. Inconvenient timing, but not unexpected.

It was the betrayal forcing me to stay my hand against that adversary that shocked me. Betrayal from the least likely of sources.

Or so I would have thought.

But that didn’t change who I was, and what I would do to preserve a life I loved, people I cherished.

I wasn’t so easily broken. But that didn’t mean I couldn’t be hurt, couldn’t be pulled apart. Unraveled.

And if I managed to put the pieces back together? I wasn’t certain who I’d be on the other side of it all. Friend? Lover? Killer? Emma or Amp5?

Or was it possible to be all those things at once?

Mystics and Mental Blocks by Meghan Ciana Doidge is the third book in the Amplifier series, which is set in the Adept Universe along with the Dowser, the Oracle, and the Reconstructionist series.

Reading order:
• The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0)
• Close to Home (Amplifier 0.5)
• Demons and DNA (Amplifier 1)
• Bonds and Broken Dreams (Amplifier 2)
• Mystics and Mental Blocks (Amplifier 3)

Stunning!

This book contains the single most powerful scene I've read since becoming a mother myself. I have never resonated and connected with a character as much as I did with Emma in this book. To say this book had me feeling ALL the feels, is an understatement. The fact that Meghan Ciana Doidge can combine extreme stress and tension, sadness, betrayal and heartache, with solidarity, warmth, comfort and unconditional love is a true testament to her story telling gift. This series just keeps getting better and better!

While this Amplifier trilogy hasn't been my favorite of Doidge's Adept world, this action packed third book was awesome. There's all kinds of battles and emotion - Emma would rather cut heads off with her sword than try to figure out any and all relationships - and sometimes the two combined. This is truly worth a read. I'm taking off a star, however, because unlike most all of Doidge's other books, this one feels incomplete somehow. There is definitely an ending with no cliffhanger, but some big issues are left unresolved. I'm assuming other books featuring these characters are forthcoming. I hope so. I want to read more, but more than that I would like some big fight scenes resulting in Emma and the rest of the Five getting to live safely in peace.

Mystics and Mental Blocks AWESOME!

I adore this series and when Meghan said we could pre-order this book, I ordered it straight away. Then the waiting began 😮

It was so worth my lack of patience 😂😂

I really can't wait to see Emma and Aidans love grow and how they cope being parent's, slight spoiler there lol.

In the book they have to cope with a runaway, a mystic, a battle and the betrayal by someone she loves.

This book is so fast paced and the characters are written so well, with great dialogue, they walk off the page.

As usual can't wait for the next......... And hopefully an appearance of a certain cupcake maker might occur.

Fingers and toes are crossed 😉

Mystics and Mental Blocks totally entralls

The plot brings you to your knees and then thrusts you into a potentially thrilling future.

Emma begins to recognize her ability to love and be loved as she moves through the complexity of facing her past and building a future of her choice.

Nothing is predictable except that Emma must face her past and see events through adult eyes.

Meghan Ciana Doidge engages the reader immediately. The storyline swiftly moves into the action immediately following the end of the previous book. Ske doesn't disappoint. The emotional notes of the story are true and strong. An exciting and emotionally read!

This book continues from book two and includes the same MCs plus a coupl3 newbies

Mystics & Mind Blocks gives Emma and friends 72 hours before disaster strikes again.  This time from one of their own.  Our favorite characters have evolved and are reading to protect who and what matters most.  The life they've built for themselves outside the Collective.

Meghan Ciana Doidge provides action and heart into everything she writes and book 3 doesn't disappoint.   If you've ever read a book by her then you understand.  If you haven't then it's time to start!

I recommend this for ages 16+

I rate this 5 of 5 stars.

I'm rapidly working my way through this spinoff series in the adept universe and loving it more and more. What originally felt a little forced and cold is now a familiar family that I've grown to love.

They poke fun at this in the book series, but this time around it isn't Aiden family drama coming to bite them, it's one of the five. We don't get a familiar face we've already met, of course, and instead we get to meet the telekinetic part of the group. She is just as prickly and tantrum filled as you would expect, but when she arrives wounded on their doorstep (or backyard, as the case may be), even Emma can't turn her away.

This book deals heavily with family, betrayal, and trust. We get to see Aiden and Emma's relationship mature into something more like a family and a home, which understandably pushes Christopher out of his "comfort" zone, yielding unintended consequences. I really enjoyed the ride this book took us on, even if a lot of that time was not really spent in the real world exactly. These books are definitely getting better and better.

Loved the newest instalment of Emma’s story. This series (Amplifier) seems more intense, emotional and dark than previous books by the author. But it could be that is just the character’s perception of her world coming through. Or my reaction to it. There is also so much love. So many feels! I also really enjoy the character development each book. Emma has changed so much, though looking back you can see the core of her personality and the potential there from the start. I look forward to the next.
Satisfying read in every way.

Another fantastic book from Meghan. I am loving the Amplifier series and am thrilled to know there is more planned down the line. One of the things this book displayed is how smart the writing can be in a fantasy world. Following the logic of Emma's magic, and what she can and can't do, and navigating the way through the final big battle required attention and focus, but in a good way! Meghan's writing is smart, but also emotional, vividly picturesque and fun. What more could I want? Well, I hope Jade and Emma will meet one day soon in a future story!

Emma and the five are my favorites in the adept world.

I just finished the third and final book in the amplifier series and I am already missing Emma, Christopher, Aiden, Paisley, and Opal. I want to know what is going to this family later and can't wait to learn more. I hope they will be the focus of a future book. During the past six weeks, I have read all of these books and really enjoyed them all, but sadly I am caught up and will the last book available starting tonight.
I loved this book and it make me tear up.

Riveting as always

The continued story of Emma and her family sucks me right back into this amazing Adept universe MCD is building. The glimpses into the past and hints of the future make me so hungry for the next installment. Emma's growth, both personal and magical, is knitted together with quiet, gentle moments and kickass displays of power and action. What more could you want?!

A non guilty pleasure

I love these stories, I always tear through them far too quickly and this was no exception. A plot synopsis is beyond me without resorting to spoilers, but Emma is trying to secure a future for her burgeoning family whilst facing unquantifiable threats from her past, that allow us to see a bit more of the Five’s history. The plot zips along and the warmth and wit of the writing is as lovely as ever

When you are one of the five and are blood bonded to the other four. You never know when they are going to show up because they need your help. Blood bonds last a lifetime. Only death will break the bond, but coming when you are in trouble and bringing the trouble with you is bad. It is especially bad when you bring a "mystic" and her two enslaved blood witches. The mystics sole purpose was to ensnare the powers of Samantha a.k.a. Van one of the five whose magic specialty was telekinesis.

I love this series. The characters are very mature (well, apart from one clairvoyant who likes his games far too much). I don't mean in age, but in how the commit to each other & work their way through problems. For example, Emma *knows* she's bad at communicating, so she goes out of her way to... communicate. This is a story about chosen family and making that family _work._ I look forward to the next book!

Emma rocked

So much happened in this book. I loved every minute of it. Having Opal there & wanting to stay. The anticipation of finding out what would happen with Opal. Emma being trapped in a house & having to figure out when that happened or when/if she could escape. Even though it was dark blood magic the evil twin witches were an amazing evil team. Such awesome writing & do it no justice trying to review it.

Exciting fast paced read

This series just gets better and better. So enjoyable you become invested in the characters and can't wait to find out what happens next. Or you just can't put it down intuition reach the conclusion of the action scenes. It's another exciting well written story.

I liked this. I liked the further connection in the Adept universe, I liked seeing more of Emma's siblings, and I like Opal. However, the pacing is weird, I wish these were full length novels, but conversely I also felt that a lot of the scenes in Emma's head were too drawn out. I think the next one is going to be explosive.

Amp 3

It's a darker whirlwind of magic that will catch you this time around. This one is not to be missed if you've read the first two amplifier books. There is no fluff in this one. I took my time with frequent breaks to mute the non-stop action a bit so I could withstand the tense imagery and the threats to characters who seem strangely real to me. Go now. Go read it.

I think the Amplifier series might just be my favorite series yet (in the Dowser world) . Along with the Oracle series of course. I just love Emma, she's such a terrific character. I love her development throughout the series, from an anti social person she becomes a pillar of a community, a leader, a part of a family.

Loved this story, Emma was more open as a character, more feeling, worts and all.
I like this settled family thing they have going and the kick ass if you mess with my family.
Never disappoints, always a-ride with twists and turns. Never predictable. A page turner that makes me pick it up in the middle of the night.

This book I would have to say wasn’t as good as the first 2 simply because I want to see more of Aiden’s power. Emma is badas* and her love for her family only makes her stronger but Aiden is supposed to be her powerful mate which isn’t showing in the books. My hope is in the next book they show how powerful Aiden can be. I’m glad they added Opal to the serie she is spunky and fun.

Read this series!!!!!!!

I can't believe how it went down. When I started book 3 I thought it would be more of the same thing, boy oh boy you have to read this, it was insane, action packed and suspense filled that I lost track of time. I recommend this series you won't regret time spent.

I Absolutely Love This

MCD has absolutely made the adept Universe even more brilliant. I love watching this band of misfits coming together to be a beautiful family. Emma is a brilliant character and every other character in the book just makes her more Emma and more human.

Fun, fast paced read

The action picks up from the last book almost immediately, they’ve barely gotten their breath back and boom, another challenge to deal with. Fast paced and good fun as usual, loving the characters as they develop. Can’t wait for more.

Mind magic is scary

It seems a person’s mind is the one place they should be safe, but apparently there are types of mind magic that make that iffy. There was a lot happening from different directions in this book and all of it interesting. Good read
