The Balance Bringer Origins #2

The First Balance Bringer

Rate this book
Before there was Ana and Jaden, there was Deona and Jove...the first incarnation of the Balance Bringer and her Tracer.

In a time of great imbalance, when the elven tribes are retreating to their homeland, abandoning the world of Hiddenkel, three elves come together in a ceremonial request for a bringer of balance.

Their wish is granted, but with an unintended consequence…an early birth sends the ceremonial outcome astray. The gift of a balance bringer is inadvertently bestowed upon a newborn baby girl – a half elf, half immortal warrior.

In order to keep the child’s power in check, her soul is divided into three parts, creating three sisters, each taking on the gift of one element - earth, wind, and water. When the girls come of age in their seventeenth year, awaking the fourth element and drawing the darkness, the time arrives for them to fulfill their destiny. Balance the elements and set the world right once more.

A challenging task for three girls that have never left their homestead circle. And although they have expert control over their elements, they haven’t a clue how to implement their gifts in order to achieve the desired goal. Nevertheless, they will set out to fulfill their destiny, accompanied by their magical elven aunts, two Fae boys, and a friendly satyr.

Only, the darkness is persistent, adaptable, and possibly something other than what they are expecting. Can the sisters keep themselves and everyone they care about safe, AND achieve the desired balance?

This fast-paced, action-packed, magical, coming-of-age adventure, with a touch of romance, and a plethora of family entanglements, is ideal for fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Cruel Prince.

Today is pub day! (12.10.19)

Just look at this gorgeous cover!

I have never read any of this author's previous books. I was pleased to find that this book works as a standalone. In the series, it is listed as Book 3.5, but it is an origin story, taking place many generations before the other books. The epilogue provides information that explains why this book follows the first three rather than preceding them. It is also important to know that this is a full-length novel and not a novella.

I was immediately captivated by the prologue. The author's writing is vivid, beautiful, and even a bit quirky. I knew from the beginning that this book would be bursting with imaginative world-building and characters full of depth. I accepted this ARC several weeks ago and did not begin reading it until the other day. I did not read the synopsis again prior to reading, and I suggest that you do not either. So many beautiful surprises are in store, and it is so much better of an experience if you let the book reveal them to you!

My only issue with the book, besides some spelling and grammar errors (which may have been corrected in the final release) was the first chapter. I felt that 6 year old Deona was speaking far too formally for a child of that age, while the narrative in that chapter was overly simplistic. The dichotomy was jarring. Thankfully, there was only one chapter written this way.

Based on this novel, I will definitely be reading the other books in The Balance Bringer Chronicles. After the epilogue, the author announced her upcoming book Igniting: The Balance Bringer (Book 4), so I hope to get caught up on the series before it is released!

I would like to thank Booksprout and the author for providing me with a free Kindle ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I so loved this book. Having thoroughly enjoyed ALL the books in this series, it was good to spend time with the first Balance Bringer.
Once again the story totally captivated me and at various points in the book I was holding my breath, awaiting the out come of the adventure.
There are many good books “ out there”, this is one of the best.
No spoilers from me but my life is richer from having read it. It’s that good.

I have never read any of this author's previous books. I was however pleased that this book works as a standalone. It should also be known that this is a full-length novel, not a novella.

I was captivated by the prologue. The book is well written with a vividly built world and well developed characters.

I accepted this ARC several weeks ago and did not begin reading it until today because of a move, work & life in general.

There are so many surprises in store for you, the reader. Dive in and explore this story!

The first Balance Bringer is an origin story filled with fairies, trolls, fae and other fantasy characters.

When the protagonist, Deena, is born a magical spell is cast upon her. When she is six another magical spell is cast upon her. Both of these spells change her life. I won’t spoil the story for you telling you how you’ll have to read the book to learn. The story follows Deona from birth to the age of seventeen where a transformation from the magical spells occurs. Throughout the story she lives with her father who has two aunts that help to raise her. She has a childhood friend, Garth, who’s a satyr.

The story starts off very slowly and I had a hard time getting into it. Since I hadn’t read any of this author’s other books I wasn’t familiar with the Balance Bringer series. Although this is a stand-alone origin book so you really don’t need to have read the others I can only wonder if they would’ve helped me get into the story sooner. With that being said, about 1/2 way in the book grabbed me and I found myself wanting to finish it. I had to find out what would happen and how Deona would handle what she was up against.

The author does a good job of character and world building. She gives the reader enough information to picture where the characters are and the circumstances they find themselves in.

I only gave the book 4 stars because of the slow start and the fact I felt that as a child Deona was very formal speaking. Most children at the age of six are not formal in their speech.

If you like fantasy and/or coming of age stories then you will enjoy this book.

I may read the 1st book in the series and see if that will help a reader understand this one a little better. If it does then I will update my review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book in the series! If you enjoy the supernatural, you will love this book! The characters are well drawn in this series and especially in this book with Deona a 6 year old the main protagonist with incredible powers. But she couldn't do what she was meant to do so her aunts decided she needed to have her control her powers so they divided her powers into Deona and two sisters, Estala and Fianna knowing that someday they would have to come together again as one. I loved how the sisters related to each other and how their personalities were unique and different with Fianna being the more adventurous sometimes to a fault. But they worked well together against all odds.I also loved watching how Deona matured little by little to accept her role. I couldn't put this book down, it caught me and I couldn't let go until the end. Although this whole series grabs you at the first page, this book can be read as a stand-alone. You will really like this book and the great characters which will definitely make you want to read more. I was taken on a wild ride with the sisters and at times were on the edge of my seat. The author has a captivating way with words that keeps you turning pages until the end. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

The First Balance Bringer

What an awesome beginning to a story. It was sad that Glynnii died giving birth to Deona but her honorary aunts stepped in to help raise her. Deona had so much power by the time she was 6 years old, that she was able to separate humans, trolls, goblins, and others to their own time and space. One of the aunts, Edea, makes a rash decision to split Deona into 3 children, with each only with a certain power. Deona still had the most power even though she didn't realize it. Each girl chose their names, Estalla and Fianna. Now, Deona had someone to play with even though they were identical except for their eyes. Deona's father, Aegeus, wouldn't let Deona leave the protected area around their home so that nothing would happen to her and sisters. It is the celebration of the other girl's birth that they are getting ready to celebrate. They are all 17 years old now. But fate has a way of making changes happen no matter what precautions are taken.

A powerful story. Happy, sad, resigned, hope.
Deona is born of an Elf and an Immortal Warrior and given powers from Gaia. Her mother died at her birth but she was brought up by her immortal father and her Elven aunts. But when she was child, she had so much power, and in her innocence to “bring balance” she moved two groups of people to their own realm. The aunts, in order to reign in her magic until she was older and could control it, split her into three identical children, each with their own abilities. They grew up as beloved sisters, loved by their father and aunts, and each other. But Deona always knew she would become one at some point and be the balance bringer the world needed. This is her story. Of how she becomes one and brings balance. For a time. But her story is not over, and she will be called upon time and again. I can’t wait to see what happens in the future. The First Balance Bringer” is an original, well-written paranormal tale that will grab your interest in the first pages, and take you on a thrilling rollercoaster ride to the last page. The edgy, action-packed scenes make this a perfect read. I loved the way Dionne’s characters are created and how it plays out in the story. The First Balance Bringer is the kind of tale that draws on your emotions and makes you feel invested in Dionne’s journey. The storyline is fast-paced, the plot is emotionally deep, action-pack, exciting, and well written with danger, suspense, secrets, humor, twists, and turns, and so much more. It is an on the edge of your seat read with intriguing well-developed characters. Definitely recommended!

The day that Deona was born, her mother died giving birth to her. She was born at a sacred site and was to live to be the bringer of balance. She lived with her father and two Aunts. When she was young and lonely, one aunt decided to split her into three identical girls, each with the power of a different element. They knew that the day would come that they would be reunited as one, but that was way in the future. They had never been allowed to leave the homestead, but whilst their father was away, they were called to go on a life changing journey, accompanied by a handful of friends. Just what would happen on this journey was unknown to them, but they must go, if the world was to be brought to balance.

Doena was born into a big destiny, she is to bring balance back, but she was too young to understand a choice she made and what it's implications are, so one of her honorary aunts splits her into three children (Doena, Estala and Fianna) dividing her powers (till she can learn to use them better). When the children get older they will need to go on an adventure that is going to challenge them, and hopefully supply a better balance for the world. Can they succeed? At what cost? I enjoyed this entertaining tale, it had the evil threats to overcome, a bit of romance, and magic (what more could you need?).

I have read this authors work before and she never disappoints me. It’s somewhat of a departure from what I’m used to reading from Ms Kristi, but no less fascinating. The world created here gives us a better understanding, experience and explanation of how this series actually took hold. Deonas world is vivid, a touch emotional, intriguing, somewhat intense but unique. I did find that some parts could have been a little explained or developed, but it does distract from the overall telling of story which makes it what it says, “an origin”.

What an epic adventure! From the beginning page until the end the book, this story takes you along through different dimensions as the first Balance Bringer is born, grows, and eventually comes into her full powers. When darkness invades the area around her home she begins an epic journey full of loss, sorrow, endings and new beginnings. I am going to have to find the rest of this series. I enjoyed this book very much.

I throughly enjoyed this book. With most books you can kind of see what might be coming up next, I couldn’t with this one. I was kept in suspense and left guessing throughout. I really couldn’t put it down. Definitely one I can recommend to others. I was so excited to see there were more books to continue on the storyline.

Interesting YA coming of age story. It was a bit slow to start and somewhat confusing at first. The reader tends to learn things as Deona and not all are explained. There was a steep learning curve for Deona and a is tear-jerker is some spots.

SpoiIers! I am curious as to how each regeneration will play out.

I loved reading about the three sisters and their journey. They are tasked with keeping the balance of the world. So many adventures area had in this story of love, love lost, sacrifice and the inevitable ending. There are some twists and turns as we learn who can be trusted and who can't be trusted. Danger lurks everywhere on this venture to save the world from the coming darkness.

As arranged many years ago, Meira of the Woods Clan, Edea of the Dusk Clan, and Glynnii of the Light Clan meet where the tree of life rests in order to pray for a Light Bringer to balance life. Glynnii, who is pregnant, gives birth then passes on. And so, Deona is born. This story is full of magical action and the love of family and friends. Highly recommended.

Three elves end up asking for balance and it go wrong as it all get out into a half for and half human baby girl. The powers needs to be split and so it does into three. What will happen when they come of age? What will happen? What will live be? Follow their adventures

I really enjoyed finding out the beginning of this story. This was a beautiful story with dark spots but still beautiful. I love the pattern that this story wove and how this story tugged on your heartstrings without seeming to try. While reading this story I swear I could feel everything Deona felt. I can't really explain how bout this story stole a piece of my heart and I loved it.

A captivating read which is a reverse of the story of the Morrigan. Instead of three becoming one, one becomes three. However, when the time comes they will merge and become one once more. This is a captivating fairy tale rife with love, loss, betrayal, and triumph.

This was an interesting story about the first Balance Bringer. It was good and sucked me in to see what was going to happen and what craziness would pop up next. A bit dark at times but it feed well into the overall story and did not really distract from the overall theme. The idea itself was cool. The characters were fun and I laughed a few times too. I enjoyed the story.
