I made a mistake the day I laid eyes on Ethan Riske.

What was supposed to be a summer romance became so much more.

I fell for the small town prince...and I have the scars to prove it.

Seven years later, the prince is back.

Only this time he wants much more than a summer romance.

He wants my publishing company. My obedience. And me.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a full-length, stand alone, second chance/enemies to lovers romance in the suspense-filled Hating Him series. This book contains surprising twists, humor and heat.

Surviving Ethan Riske was a miracle I’d only had to do once. I wasn’t quite sure I could do it again.

Natalie E Wrye is a new to me author that hooked me with the intriguing blurb for this book. There's nothing better than a good second chance romance to me. I can tell that I'll definitely try other books by her in the future, however, this book fell a bit flat for me.

All the ingredients for a great read were there; great set up, intriguing characters, a nice and sexy slow burn. Unfortunately, the discombobulated story line is what lessened my enjoyment. It was all over the place and nowhere at the same time.

The story is told in flashbacks to past and present. While this could have worked really well, the flashbacks were choppy and didn't work with the story. Some parts felt cut off and unfinished and didn't add to the story but added to more confusion. The character development was lacking and kept me from connecting with the MCs. This was especially true for the hero. When you first meet him, he's getting a blow job from a random stripper in a club. Now, I wouldn't mind this, if I felt like it added something to his character development. But it made him seem vapid and narcissistic considering he goes on to think how handsome he is and how he can get any woman and usually does.
I had the kind of voice that made women melt, made panties twist on their own. It had been described as a mix between George Clooney with a hint of vintage Rock Hudson, possessing the swagger of a Fortune 500 executive… and the sheer physical prowess of an athlete. Born to rule. Bred for greatness.

Who thinks about how sexy their own voice is during a bj? *scratches chin*

The encounter leaves him empty and he finds himself thinking of a girl from his past that he never got over. None of this really felt like it was adding to the story or really driving the plot, much like the rest of the book.

The heroine and hero have a past, but it's insufficiently developed. I don't really understand why he lied or why he had to leave. You get told why, but it felt like a detached telling that I just never connected to or truly understood.

All things considered, this would have still been a solid 3 star read for me until the twist at the end. It was so random and completely out of left field that it felt more like shock value than a twist. It was once more poorly developed and fleshed out and completely killed any buzz I had going with the book. So going with the GR star value, this book was just OK for me. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. I'd definitely check out other books by this author, but this one unfortunately just didn't work for this reader. I'm clearly in the minority though and many did love the book, so give it a shot if the blurb intrigues you, and judge for yourself.

Rating 2 stars to Hating the Boss

‘I spent my childhood making mischief, devoted my adulthood to running from it, I couldn’t escape it. Danger had danced with me for an entire summer when I’d known Ethan Riske, and I was a fool to think it could stay away for a decade.’

Just like any other genre, the contemporary romance variety can be a thematic field of the hit and the miss in this large pool of relatively romantic romance - hitting when realised in a fulfilling way that offers the best that a story of romance has to offer; and a miss when it carries the components of a great story but instead delivers itself in a less-than impelling way, and unfortunately Hating the Boss by Natalie Wrye did indeed find itself in the latter category for me.

Nine years ago, Ethan Riske and Katarina Lexington met in the hot clime of Tennessee’s scorching days of summer and soon embarked on a companionable spree of disobedience and disturbance; a large rebellious middle finger to small-town authority both of them became as they found friendship as two outcasts that didn’t fit into a standardised society that misunderstood them at best. As his partner in crime, Kat gave Ethan a life without obligation, a chance to see himself outside of his family name, and dauntless Ethan offered tomboy Kat not just an outlet for being different, but he transformed her sense of being alone into something far more tolerable, while becoming a friend who took the time to know and love her.

But as they say, a good thing never lasts, and Ethan and Kat were fated only to have just a summer to share with each other. Icy, obstinate Kat lost something when hard-headed Ethan Riske broke her heart and left her alone in the town of Tennessee where they shared many firsts together. And Ethan may have made the biggest regret-fulled mistake of himself when he left without a word. But foul play or not, an ill-judged error or not, a loss like that is never easy to forget whether it lives in the past or otherwise, and sometimes when life brings your past back into your present…perhaps a bit of revenge is on order….

Now nine years later, icy, obstinate Kat is still both hard and tenacious, and with a small burgeoning publishing press she’s also a woman of prowess and possession, but when she hears of Brendon Foxx, new shark and CEO of Foxxhole Publishing - a new competitor waiting to snap up her hard-won company she’s the first person to hound him like a dog with a bone. Florida becomes the new setting where the past indeed collides with the present, under a scene of mystery, duplicity, revenge and a long-trailing fire that’s both fulled from danger and passion.

It’s always such a bittersweet feeling when you have an expectation for a story, wishing for something great, receiving much less. I did see so much possibility for this story. The premise? Absolutely excited me. The execution? Haplessly Anticlimactic. I read on thinking that this would certainly set itself apart and offer something a bit different, and it definitely had the flavours to promise this: an engaging set-up, an interesting plot riddled with a touch of suspense and crisp writing, but the overall story all in all was fairly abstract and questionable.

Hating the Boss all-embracingly was a story that was too short and choppy for the kind of story that was being told - it needed more time to develop and discovery. The story is told in two timelines: one recounting some instances from the past, and one speaking from the present. Usually I don’t mind a dual timeline if this device is relative and make sense, but it really served little purpose. I didn’t understand why we needed these snapshots from the past because they didn’t offer much in the way of character development or plot-development. This back and forth format didn’t work for this story, and it took time away from the present day events which also needed more consideration. The scenes that fluctuated back and forth were also quite choppy and felt a bit rushed, leaving me harriedly trying to understand why X needed to happen, why Y made this decision and why Z decided to do one and scramble the story into something rather conflicting.

This story isn’t bad, in fact it displays ability but I just wanted it to save itself and make the best and take the best from it. In addition to this I think that the story definitely needed some thorough probing, with the characters, their personal development and with the details; what precisely was going on plot-wise? Why exactly was Ethan driven out of Tennessee, why couldn’t he fight back against it? Why wasn’t amends made much sooner? Why wait nine years? The answers we get aren’t explained well enough to reason a clear finalisation of things. Too many questions.

There were also scenes that let me down- pockets of opportunism that missed out and scenes that I imagined would go differently. Take the Summit scene for example (which takes place after the 50% mark) when Ethan and Kat meet for the first time in person after so long. There could have been a real magnification reveal, and this setting held a lot of promise for things to happen. There was some action and suspense but even those parts felt too contrived, and further perpetuated this abstract setting which made it difficult to see this story as a full-length novel. Because of this I couldn’t appreciate the resolution to their relationship. Or their relationship period, more succinctly.

Hating the Boss was a story that implied so much but left more than enough unsaid, much like both Ethan and Kat. The pieces of this story fit together a bit too coarsely for me. This didn’t feel like full-length novel so much as fractions of a story trying to piece itself together. It was exhausting and doesn't highlight consistent development and explore a path that would have led to an otherwise attractive romance. With power, pride and a good dose of barbed banter Ethan and Kat become invested in a tangle of secrets that still need to be unraveled. A summer romance changed everything for them, and all men became the same shade of double-faced when Ethan went running.

Ethan fractured Kat and her trust when he abandoned their summer tryst and left her only with bittersweet memories while he went on to become the quintessential pleasure seeker and mogul for success. But afters years of fallacy and being driven by other devices, Ethan touches old roots both personally and professionally when his past offers a missing piece…because sometimes success lies in people and not in places. And sometimes that attainment comes from looking to the past - in this case the town of Tennessee when a brief romance turned some tables. A fire still licks at both of heir heels, chasing them, taunting them, endangering them, not unsimilar to the one that still exists between them because their love wasn’t buried nine years ago, it’s up to them whether it surfaces in a wall of hateful flame or blazing success.

After perusing through reviews, i noticed that this is a popular read and I’m really glad that many people managed to enjoy something that didn’t hit me the same way. Alas, we can’t always have the same experiences, so if this book appeals to you, then by all means give it a try!

Trigger Warning: Profanity, adult content and descriptive sex scenes. There is also an instance where the female protagonist is drugged and sexually assaulted.

I had a love-hate relationship with the story. I love the intensity of their connection but the jumping back-and-forth between timelines and different people got to be really tough. Plus, there was a lot of repetitive conversation that got boring.

The best part is the last 75% where they really finally connected again. Sex was hot and their obvious love for each other was evident. The author threw in a twist to the story which was interesting. But I really hate when people run and this one had a runner.

Overall decent story. definitely the ending made the whole book

I couldn’t connect with these characters or the romance. Top reasons why:
1. H gets a blowjob by a stripper in the opening scene.
2. Pages and pages in multiple chapters of flashbacks in italic. A simple ‘Fill-in-the-blank Years Ago’ heading would suffice. Italic is something to be used sparely. i.e. It’s annoying to read for any length of time!
3. At 29%, Part 2, the H monologues that “I’d spent at least part of half the week with beach blonde bunnies in my bed, redheads in the Rolls, a caramel-haired cutie to bide the time.”

I loved this story!

Natalie E. Wrye helped me survive to these latest few stressing days, she wrote a novel that doesn't even let you take a breath. The fast pace and the suspense will make you turning the pages frantically.

I did need a strong heroine and I've found Kat, I did need a man who was a "bastard" but at the right time he showed his true color and he became the Hero and I've found Riske.
When Ethan says that to conquer the business world is like courting a woman is just so lyrical and swooning and he made me so jealous...I'd like to meet a man like him if he ever exist in real life.

Riske and Revenge is the first book in Natalie E. Wrye’s Revenge series, and I’m unsure how I feel about this one.

In truth, this is a two-point-five-star rating rounded up. I went in expecting a story that would grip me, but I wasn’t as sucked in as I was hoping I would be. There were a few moments where I found myself enjoying it, but mostly I felt as though I was wading through a lot of nothing to reach the good stuff.

I think a lot of my issues came from the fact I disliked both of our main characters. Not in the sense of them being unlikeable characters in any particular way, simply that I couldn’t find anything that made me care about them. I didn’t care much about their individual stories, nor did I care much for the relationship between the two of them. I was watching things unfold, but I didn’t care much at all.

Moreover, I spent so long waiting for something big to happen in relation to the revenge aspect. It’s the name of the series, so my hopes were high… Yet I was let down. Sure there were some drama filled moments, but it wasn’t the dark and twisted revenge story I had been hoping for. It felt as though too many things were thrown together, too many aspects were attempted, and none were played out as well as they could have been.

Despite it all, there were glimpses of possibility throughout this book – hence why I rounded up instead of down. It could have been so much more, but as it was it felt like a bit of a chore.

Overall, it wasn’t what I had been hoping for.

If I had to sum up my review in one sentence, it would go like this: wtf was this 💀💀💀

Seriously - What. How. Why.

Let's start with technicalities that got me truly baffled here 🤨🤨🤨

╚ why is this book titled "Hating the BOSS"??? Ethan/Brendan/Brendon, whatever that dude's name is, is never actually Kat's boss???! he starts being her boss (and it's explicitly said that he's only technically her boss, they are engaged at that point ffs) in the epilogue??

Is it because Ethan thinks of himself as the boss? Because let me tell you something...

╚ this story is also sold as second change romance and enemies-to-lovers...well, I don't know how to break it to y'all but it's not 🙃

story has ZERO second chance romance vibes, let alone any enemies-to-lovers vibes! the only thing second-chancey about it is that Kat and Ethan met and supposedly fell in love when they were teenagers, Ethan fed Kat his lies, including his fake name, for some weird rich people reasons. then he got caught in a compromising situation with some girl (who is of course big-tittied, shallow, fake, slutty etc. etc.) and he ditched Kat without any explanation.

get this. we DON'T get explanation to any of that and Kat doesn't either, except at the last minute it turns out all of that is somehow Kat's bestie's fault? who has apparently been faking her friendship to Kat for 10+ years, was compromising her business and some other shit. anyway...how can it be a second chance romance when there's almost no angst other than Kat's and Ethan's inner thoughts (and those are not THAT interesting)? Kat literally falls over Ethan's dick and abs the moment she sees him for the first time, then there's some drama related to their business and aforementioned fake friend-turned-arsonist, and then they're suddenly together? but they don't talk over their issues, they don't explain anything and basically I have no idea how they got back together, it was so random **head explodes**

╚ to be fair, I guess author thought this was enemies-to-lovers because Kat and Ethan are business rivals and Ethan was planning to buy out Kat's business...BUT...to be enemies, you have to actually be like...you know, hostile? have conflicting interests? some angst, some drama, some suffering trying to figure things out???

no???

the extent of their hostilities is that Kat and Ethan/Brendan/Brendon exchange some letters and emails, "You've Got Mail" style, except poor, wannabe version of it. then they meet in person, Kat realizes Brendan/Brendon the business rival is actually her Ethan from years ago (somehow google does not exist in this world, whatever), they sleep together, and Ethan decides out of the blue to ditch his plan to buy out Kat's business, which was years in the making.

it's taking me waaaay too long to get to the point, but my point is this - there were no emotional stakes in this story, no consequences, no tension, no drama.

╚ one other thing - this story had flashbacks but they were so useless? if you're doing a "second chance" romance and you show the past to get reader more emotionally invested in the couple, explain their connection etc., maybe make it less boring and make it make sense! because these flashbacks were so random and they didn't actually tell me anything noteworthy about Kat and Ethan

╚ Ethan (and his friends too) was the worst kind of alphahole - the one who thinks he's god's gift to women (and is in reality bland af) 🙄🙄

this is Ethan thinking deep thoughts as he gets a bj from some random girl:

"I had the kind of voice that made women melt, made panties twist on their own. It had been described as a mix between George Clooney with a hint of vintage Rock Hudson, possessing the swagger of a Fortune 500 executive… and the sheer physical prowess of an athlete. Born to rule. Bred for greatness."

Ethan @ Ethan throughout this whole story basically:

and of course all the women in the story fall over themselves to have sex with him, and all of them are described as brainless bimbos, and the only woman "of quality" is Kat *rolls eyes*

this is so 2014, I just can't

╚ last but not least - at some publishing summit they all are at, Kat is drugged and almost raped - and of course it's Ethan who heroically rescues her, and the whole thing is basically used to show how amazing Ethan is, and Kat's emotional reaction to this?

almost non-existent. except salivating even more over Ethan / her mystery hero 🤮🤮

if the author wanted to show how amazing the hero is, maybe she should've written less him treating other women like shit, and having best friends who get drunk and grab random women by breasts (to which Ethan has no reaction other than mild annoyance, it's not like his bestie just assaulted a woman and excused it "THEY were staring at me and asking for it")

Ok, rant over 😂😂 All in all, this book was chaotic and not in a good way, romance was non-existent and characters were flatter than my ironing board. I'm gonna give book 2 in this series a try, but I'm thinking this was not a one-off and Natalie Wrye's writing is probably not my cup of tea.

Riske and Revenge is an incredibly written story that touches on so many of my book-kinks that I had a hard time putting it down! Second chance, enemies-to-lovers, mystery and intrigue, some rom-com in there mixed with some super steamy scenes.. This book had it all. Natalie Wrye did a wonderul job bringing Ethan and Kat's story to life.
After Ethan breaks Kat's heart; they're thrust together once more 9 years later, when fate, work - and an arsonist take aim at their prospective businesses. Kat is a strong woman, not willing to fall back into Ethan's arms after he disappeared on her when they were young. Ethan has his own secrets and demons that he must battle in trying to get Kat to open up to him once again. Their chemistry, the sexual tension, the angst, the banter. This book was thoroughly entertaining.
If there was something I had to say about this book that I wasnt thrilled with, it was the ending. It was something I struggled with just a little bit, and reread a few times. It felt.. Incomplete? Like something was missing or it was rushed? It's hard to explain without giving too much away. HOWEVER, it could be setting something up for the next book. We shall see!
Highly recommended book that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This was a great book with lots of twists and turns to have you wondering what is going to happen next and how everything that you have already put together is going to play out.

I really liked Katarina and knew she didn't have the easiest life growing up and she managed to make something for herself. But Katarina had her childhood best friend Lainey working with her and helping her through everything she was coming up against.

I loved how everything began to fall into place and with what Ethan did to Harrison Kennedy. From there things got super interesting but even before that with the fires we knew someone was up to something.

I was completely surprised with a few of the twists and turns, especially at the end!! I did not see the ending coming at all!

Everything ended falling into place as it should but it was not an easy road getting there.

Riske and Revenge is a tale of love lost and second chances, misunderstandings and betrayals. Through flash backs we get glimpses into the past, which weave seamlessly with the present as a mystery begins to unfold.

Ethan and Kat have great chemistry and the sexual innuendo was hot and steamy. Letters and messages are sent back and forth before either know who the other is and these had me chuckling to myself. Kat is very conflicted once she discovers Ethan's identity, especially when not everything is as it seems and secrets and lies have still to be uncovered. Despite their animosity their feelings for each other are undeniable and I love the push and pull between them. However, it's not all plain sailing and someone has it out for this pair, putting obstacles in their way, trying to keep them apart.

This book will keep you guessing until the end when everything falls into place and the twisted truth is finally revealed. A great slow burn contemporary hot and suspenseful romance I don't hesitate to recommend.

Nothing like a super hot businessman in an Armani suit that doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. Ethan Riske is all that and a bag of chips! Love this story. Wrye does an excellent job at adding plenty of action and madness to her romance. Sending you on quite the adventurous journey with Kat and Ethan. The villain of the story, I never figured out who it was until the very end, love being surprised. Can't wait for the next installment!

I loved the premise of this book, and the blurb hooked me. Second chance romances are a favorite of mine.

Unfortunately, the book didn't hook me at all. I struggled near the beginning as it takes a long time for the characters to interact. And, when you need to both explain a past relationship and develop one in the present, each scene needs to matter, to tell the story, and to move it forward.

There's a blow job scene at the beginning that is odd, and sets up Riske as someone I didn't actually like. It seemed out of place, and it wasn't how I wanted to meet the hero of the story.

There's a snail-mail letter exchange that seemed really juvenile to me. These are supposed to be 2 CEO level executives, and they are referencing (incorrectly I might add) that Trix cereal isn't for kids. (The bunny, FYI, agrees, but this is not the point here.) I struggled to take them seriously at this point, as neither Brendon or Kat are terribly likeable as the main characters.

I also struggled with the author's writing style. There were a lot of times where it felt to me like the author was trying to avoid using a cliche, so she changed it slightly. These pulled me out of the book. There were also some odd phrases and sentence structure that I struggled with. I get it, each author has a different style and voice, and not every author works for every reader.

Unfortunately, the word choice issues were, for me, the final straw on this one.

The book bounces from past to present, the writing is choppy and there's no flow to any of the scenes. I didn't feel their past relationship really added to the present story, and there were plot holes, gaps and pacing issues that made it difficult for me to connect with the characters.

I'm in the minority, it seems, which is fine, but I really didn't connect with this story.

I'm not able to recommend this title.

eBook + audiobook

I really wanted to love this one, but it just didn’t click for me. The idea of a second-chance, enemies-to-lovers romance set in a small town sounded like exactly my kind of vibe, but the execution left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The back-and-forth between past and present was confusing at times, and I wish we’d gotten more depth into their history—especially why Ethan left the way he did.

It felt like there were too many gaps that weren’t filled in, which made it harder to connect with their story. This was also due to how the chapters were presented, where there wasn’t any continuity with the following scene. One thing I really couldn’t stand was how the two characters barely communicated throughout the whole story, with too much focus on the slow burn instead. That said, I feel bad giving it a low rating because the writing was easy to follow, the slow burn was well-executed, and I liked how their connection developed through correspondence—but then the rest was left hanging.

The twist at the end came out of nowhere and felt forced, which left the resolution feeling unsatisfying. While I typically enjoy a slow burn, this one dragged too much for me. The characters' lack of communication and emotional growth, particularly from Kat (whose main trait seemed to be running away from problems), made it difficult to fully invest in their story. The mystery subplot, which had potential, was sidelined and underdeveloped, almost as if it wasn’t essential to the narrative at all. Despite all this, I still don’t think it was a bad story, but it lacked the emotional pull I was hoping for. That said, I’m willing to give the series a second chance and continue reading—who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind as the story develops.

audiobook review

⭐️⭐️

The audiobook experience was a bit rough. I liked Wayne Mitchell’s narration—he gave Ethan the perfect tone—but Robyn Verne’s voice just didn’t work for me. It sounded too whiny and breathy when she was trying to sound sexy, which made it hard to stay engaged with the story. I didn’t understand why she had to use a falling tone for the email sections. At first, I found it interesting, but as the story went on, it lost its appeal. The audiobook version didn’t blow me away, but it certainly gave some character to the personalities that, if I had read them, I would have found quite flat.

Riske and Revenge is the first book in the Revenge series by one of my favorite suspense romance authors, Natalie E. Wrye! I have read all of her books and have beta read most of them. I just love how she makes me think, laugh, and tingle sometimes all at once. Before I start talking about the story I want to explain that if you read a Paradise Forbidden then you have met Kat and Ethan (known as Trevor). This is a complete re-write of their story. It’s not the same story. They might have the same names, kinda but they are not the same in personalities. It’s hard to explain. Overall...if you read Paradise Forbidden ...read this. If you didn’t...read Riske and Revenge.

Nine years. It’s been nine years since Kat has seen Ethan Riske. The boy that found trouble. The boy that she loved at seventeen. The boy that disappeared that same year. She hasn’t seen him but she knew he was now the man that she hated. He was also the man she couldn’t forget. The man who tortured her in his dreams and in her heart. Now nine years later, she sees him again. And damn him for looking even sexier and more sophisticated in his three piece suits. And fuck him for wanting to ruin her. She wants her revenge but can she do that and keep her body from betraying her?

Brendon Foxx has it all. CEO. Nice rides. Sweet office. Kickass friends. As many women as he wants. But there is still one thing he doesn’t have. Her. The girl who he left behind in Tennessee. The girl that he could be himself around. The one girl that didn’t chase him. The girl of his dreams. That was all she was now. A dream. Until, he sees Kat once again. She was reality but not his. He saw the look in her eyes and they were not kind. He knew that look. He was fucked and not in a good way.

Kat and Ethan’s relationship is complex. They thought they knew each other nine years ago but now? Their chemistry was still there. Kat’s feistiness was still intact. Ethan’s trouble-making smirk was still panty melting but he wasn’t the same person who left Tennessee or was he and Kat didn’t see it? She might have some glimpses but not this. Will she even see her Ethan again or is it too late?

I liked their story the first time around but I loved it the second time. The writing is more addicting. The characters are more developed. The storyline is just more. I laughed more. The heat rose. The suspense was less predictable. I am excited about the rest of the series of remakes. Natalie totally kicked ass with this one!

Quotes:

With Kat Lexington, nothing was simple.

I thought about the comment Brendon Foxx once made about me working at Red Lobster, and figured that I might as well start working on my biscuit recipe.

She was the song that my heart had never stopped singing.

Whenever I read a Natalie E. Wrye book, I am always swept into her world that is brilliant, exciting and thrilling. Her books just completely leaves me so satisfied every time I read them. There is just something truly beautiful about them that I sometimes I cannot away. I am always transfixed on them. I am always captured by them. Riske and Revenge was another book that totally left me with a smile on my face. That book was amazing to read. It was charming. It was endearing. It was edgy. It was a book that brought me in to a storyline so wonderful that I got goosebumps on my skin just by reading it. Riske and Revenge was definitely one of my favourite books from Natalie E. Wrye and he best from her.

When I read a book, there are always things I look for, engaging, interesting and well thought out storyline, swoon worthy characters and fiery hot scenes. And Riske and Revenge truly delivered on that. Man oh man, this book was freaking drool worthy and tantalizing to the max. I love every single part of Riske and Revenge. The drama. The romance. The feelings. The fire. Everything about it was simply magnificent that I devoured this book. Heart pumping wicked. Pulsing. Fascinating. Humorous. Riske and Revenge was a second chance contemporary romance filled with an enemies to lovers to story that was beyond drop dead gorgeous. Natalie E. Wrye wrote a fantastic story with amazing writing. Her writing is so simple yet it just pulls you in. I freaking adore it.

Riske and Revenge introduced me to Ethan Riske and Kat Lexington, a couple with immense chemistry so fun and off the charts perfect. I love these two so much. There was hate. There was love. There was panty melting dialogues between that set the book on fire. Of all the characters of Natalie E. Wrye, I loved Ethan and Kat more. Kat was fiery, sassy and a loyalty to her business. Ethan was cocky, alpha, funny and damn sexy that I wanted to do wild things to him. Natalie E. Wrye definitely brought so much life and colour to Ethan and Kat.

Riske and Revenge will give you and enjoyable and slow burn ride into stratosphere. If you are fan of second chance romance with a little enemies to lovers action then this book is for you.

I'm in love with how Natalie E. Wrye introduces me to a new dominate alpha male. I have to say that I feel that a alpha, dominate, suited up, gorgeous  & dirty talking man is what Wrye specializes in. In Riske & Revenge we have a second chance at love romance with a little mystery and some action. The teasing sexual chemistry kept me interested throughout my read.

Ethan Riske has always been a risk taker, knows what he wants, how to get it and wants to be the best at what he does. Nine years ago Ethan fell in love with one of the new girls in town, they were adventurous together. Until he made the decision to walk away and leave her broken hearted. Now, he is man in charge and goes by another name. Life is pretty good with wanting to take over the publishing world with his best friends, that is until someone from his past comes across and wants to talk business.

Katarina left her home in Daytona and all the memories of her first love behind. Kat is now a beautiful 26 year old business owner, she so wants her publishing business to make it and survive the competion with the bigger companies. She is strong and determined, but there is only one man standing in her way-except he will not give her the time of day. His cockiness is frustrating her and it's also a little enticing. Kat will not back down that's until his true identity is revealed. Maybe having a business meeting is not worth the... Riske.

OMG!!! I loved everything about this story so much so that I read it in one day. The teasing sexy banter had me laughing out loud. Ethan and Kat's chemistry is hot and made me aware of how much they need to be together. The mystery of who is trying to sabotage both companies kept me on my toes.

Katarina Khvostova has overcome a lot to now own A Whole New World Literary Press. Yet all of her dreams could soon be ruined when her company is threatened with a takeover by Foxxhole Publishing. She is going to do the best to protect her company and prevent Brendon Foxx from taking it.

Ethan Riske was in love with Katarina Lexington 10 years ago and has been married to his work since then. But Ethan isn't the same man as he once was.

When a series of events play havoc with both Katarina and Ethan will they learn the truth and discover who is out to sabotage each of them? Is someone else after Katarina's business?

Everything ended falling into place as it should but it was not an easy road getting there.- By Rebecca

5 Couldn't-Put-It-Down Stars

At the heart of this amazing book is a mystery....a mystery surrounded by a love story. The love story of two star-crossed lovers filled with secrets, lies and betrayal! A love story that sticks in your mind and heart, a love story that will gut you with all the feels and one that will put your heart and soul back together again with the beauty of a love that was MEANT to be!

I ADORED how Ms Wrye had these two characters, Ethan Riske and Kat Lexington, tell their story from both POV's. I have to say that, at first, I was NOT taken with Ethan...I thought he was SUCH a d**k, a true man-whore, but as I kept reading I found that he actually WASN'T and that I was seeing him mainly through Kat's heartbroken eyes! He definitely redeemed himself (and THEN some!)

The chemistry between Kat and Ethan is SCORCHING HAWT...the love scenes are truly fan-worthy! I loved how spunky Kat is, how she absolutely stands up to Ethan, trying desperately to NOT fall back under his spell, KNOWING she will once again be left heartbroken and devastated! The secrets that are uncovered had me gasping out loud...I was TOTALLY and COMPLETELY floored by a few of the unbelievable twists and turns that were revealed!!

I would STRONGLY recommend this suspense-filled, drama-laden, heart-and-soul searing love story to anyone! I seriously can't WAIT for the next book in the Revenge Series!

When I'm looking for a romantic, suspenseful, love story I know Natalie E. Wrye will bring just what I need.

Riske and Revenge is a heart pounding, stay of edge of your seat, never knowing what twists and turns will come next read you won't want to put down.

Ethan and Kat have so much chemistry that is flies off the pages. Their relationship is complicated due to their past. Several years may have past since they last saw each other, but connection is still there.

Ethan will knock your socks off and melt your panties, so be warned. Kat is feisty and built walls around her heart that will take a strong man to bring down.

Their reconnection is intense, the secrets that are revealed are stunning, and their passion is sultry.

I highly enjoyed Riske and Revenge and loved all the ups, downs, and emotions contained in this read. So if you need a read that will take your breath away with a journey that will keep you guessing what will happen next, then I highly recommend you pick up Riske and Revenge today!

Read on behalf of Two Darlin Dolls and a Book Review Blog.

"He broke my heart in the most brutal of ways, and the naïve-hearted teenager I’d been had hardened into a half bitter adult."

We get a little bit of everything in this story. Lost love, broken hearts, lies, betrayal, second chances and suspense. The book is told in dual perspectives and includes flash backs which provides the history of the main characters.

"I remember what it was like to love him. And to hate him so fucking much."

Kat and Riske shared an unforgettable summer together that ended in heartache. Fast forward years later and they once again cross paths. Both characters are flawed, one more so than the other, but I couldn't help but root for both of them. I enjoyed reading their little cat and mouse game while trying to figure out who wanted revenge more. There were a few twist and turns that I didn't see coming which is always bonus.
The next character to get a book intrigued me from the moment he opened his mouth and I'm thrilled to learn more about him.

"Thank you for being the risk I never regretted taking.”

RISKE AND REVENGE by Natalie E. Wrye is an emotionally charged second chance romance with a little mystery and action thrown in!

Katarina and Ethan fell in love as teenagers, until hearts are broken and the two separated.

Flash forward 9 yrs and we find Katarina struggling to keep the business she loves afloat. Finding out that it's Ethan's company that is trying to buy out her business just fuels the chemistry between these two.

It's a painful, passionate road to redemption. But slowly they discover the truths of the past and the present.

This book had a ton of twists and turns that keep the reader hooked. You want to keep reading just to find out what is really going on!

Great emotional ride with just the right amount of passion, action and development.

Absolutely a must read!

Riske & Revenge is a second chance romantic suspense novel that is true typical Natalie Wrye! She hooks you from the first page and if you're like me, you just hold on for the ride! Suspense, intrigue, drama, feelings, emotions, steam, fire -- you name it, it's in her storylines. I love how you can actually "feel" the connection between her characters -- there's so much chemistry and emotion between Ethan and Kat! The flashbacks from 9 years ago to the present time flow so well that you don't feel like you're jumping around in the storyline. Excellent well developed characters, awesome storyline and all the emotional feelings that I love in a romantic suspense novel -- you can't go wrong! Loved it!

This was almost a DNF for me. I literally skimmed the last 20% of this book. I just wanted it to be over.

It didn't matter. The end was so rushed it was practically non-existent. Like me, Wrye skimmed over the big stuff. There was no resolution to the problems (people) that were trying so desperately to bring down Ethan and Kat. There was no real explanation of why they were doing those things either. Just a quick one sentence reference on the last page that showed it was all wrapped up in a perfect (not even close) bow.

The "backstory" between Ethan and Kat doesn't explain in any way how they fell in love or how they were separated. The little bit of information in the present contradicts itself about the past.
There wasn't any resolution to the issues between Ethan and Kat either. Suddenly, all was accepted. No explanation for any of it. There were some huge bombs in there about the past, and readers got ZERO explanation.

I also don't understand how the title or blurb relates to this story. Ethan wasn't Kat's boss. "Small town prince" is also a stretch. The blurb describes this series as "suspense-filled." The only suspense is whether this was going to get better. Spoiler: It. Did. Not.

I'm disappointed in myself for wasting so much time on this story.
