Turbulence

This was hot, steamy, even a little emotional.... and I loved every second of it. This is Noyes' second book. Her first Ask, Tell was fantastic. Ask, Tell, is still in the running for my favorite book published in 2017. I was actually giddy with excitement when I got my hands on this book. I knew I had to read it immediately. I also was a little worried, Noyes put the bar so high with her debut, how would this one measure up? I'm so happy to say for me, she did it again. This is the kind of steamy romance, I really enjoy.
Isabella Rhodes, is a high powered stockbroker. She is part owner of her company, and great at making money. However, she is not great at relationships. After her last failed one, she wants to do casual only. When she meets Audrey Graham, she can't stop thinking of her. Maybe this is the perfect person to have great casual sex with. But what happens to "friends with benefits" when feelings get involved? Isabella Rhodes is about to find out.
In Ask, Tell, we saw Noyes is good at writing action-romance. In Turbulence, we see she is good at steamy-romance. I mean this book was hot with a capital H O T. There is a lot of sex scenes, but they don't feel repetitive. I love good steamy sex scenes, but if there is too many of them, you can almost get bored. That is not the case in this book at all. I think Noyes took a little bit of a risk with this book. It is very different than her first, but for me it really worked. She's got a sexy, steamy, writers side that came out in this book.
This book is in first person. I know some don't care for that, but it works for this book, really. Always being in Isabella's head, not knowing for sure what Audrey was thinking, gave me almost a little suspense. I know there is a better word than suspense, but I can't think of it. It leaves you wondering "what is Audrey's true feelings?" You get to find that out with Isabelle.
When it comes to the two mains, they both are wonderful. Isabella is a little anxious, and even neurotic, but I loved being in her head. She also has a bit of a mouth on her, and it made me like her even more. Audrey, is great too. Even not knowing her thoughts, you get to know her anyway, and are going to love her as a character. Also, I have to mention Isabella's southern mother. She was a fantastic secondary character and I really enjoyed the pages at her house.
This is a steamy-romance done well. I just love the way Noyes writes. I know I am fan-girling out a bit here, but her books make me happy. If you are not into explicit sex scenes, and don't like reading any swear words, this book is not for you. All other romance fans, I easily recommend this. I just hope I don't have to wait too long for another Noyes book.

Turbulence is essentially a story about a one-night stand slowly turned into a relationship. Both main characters have trust and daddy issues. They not communicate through conversation, but through sex. A plot already seen quite a few times in lesfic, so nothing unique there, but the story is well-written with all elements done properly. There are a lot of steamy scenes, but they are not boring by any means, and they made perfect sense related to said way of communication.
I liked Turbulence because of its very likable protagonists, some great secondary characters, nice dose of humor, and a nice satisfying ending. I could easily recommend it to all romance fans who enjoy steamy romances with a meaningful plot.

I read this book years ago (maybe not years but for me, more than a couple of months ago is years ago) and had never found the time to listen to the audiobook version. After introducing my wife to audiobooks with Satisfaction Guaranteed, written by Karelia Stetz-Waters and narrated by Lori Prince on the first leg of our little road trip, I had to give her the gift of one of the best combos, E. J. Noyes and Abby Craden. She’s heard me praise Craden’s narrations for a while now, so we drove home listening to the queen telling Isabelle and Audrey’s story.
Isabelle Rhodes isn’t used to one-night stands. In fact, she never had one-night stands until now. And she loved it and said goodbye only to find out that the woman who made her feel so good last night is Audrey Graham, the new pilot of her jet. Isabelle tries to fight the obviously mutual attraction, not completely comfortable with the idea of dating one of her employees, but when Audrey suggests keeping things casual, Isabelle can’t resist. Feelings will be caught on the way, as feelings tend to do.
I write this every time I review one of her books but it’s true and I feel the need to repeat it: E. J. Noyes is one of the best authors at the moment, in wlw fiction but not only. And Abby Craden is one of the best narrators. I’ve been told there’s no such thing as too sexy, yet I have on occasion been distracted from the story by Craden’s voice, most notably in Noyes’s Ask Me Again. That’s absolutely not a problem here. Turbulence is full of sexiness and Craden is perfect. My wife called her a Rolls Royce and it’s accurate.

Oh. My. Noyes! What the ever loving #### did I just read? Confession, books that started with ONS never held my interest. They were usually predictable after that first magical day/night - the m/f would come out with a no strings attached #### buddies relationship and the rest was history. I wasn't convinced with the love element, it felt like it was just sex.
Turbulence was the complete opposite - the depth of feelings, the amazing characterization of the hs, the built-up to the steamy scenes and the eventually over the volcanoes sex scenes, the hs' A++ chemistry / biology / physics, how extraordinary well they fit into each others lives placed this book in a league of its own.
Seriously, I can't gush enough about the book. Is it perfect? Of course not, but the hits outnumber the misses. Audrey and Iz's journey from labeless bond to something delicious and heart stopping is a must read to you romantic souls out there.
For those who are going to join Audrey and Iz's bandwagon -besides staying away from public places/public and the daylight when you read it, you might need to do laundry first because if you're like me then after most of the steamy talks/scenes... A dry one is much needed / appreciated.

It's safe to say that 2017 was an exeptional year for E.J. Noyes with two fantastic novels being published by Bella. I loved Ask, Tell and now Turbulence is going to join my favorites shelf as well. Wow, what a super book!
Stockbroker Isabelle Rhodes has a very satisfying one night stand with Audrey Graham but when the latter turns out to be the new company pilot things get complicated.
Isabelle wants to end it right there knowing workplace shenanigans are a slippery slope, but her healthy libido is nixing that idea pretty quickly. So the two ladies embark upon a clandestine liaison but we all know that those no strings arrangements never really satisfy for long.
It's a perfect romance novel with two very likeable main characters who have to discover what kind of relationship they can have besides the mind blowing sex. Next to Isabelle and Audrey, there is a great cast of secundary characters to enjoy. There's not too much drama and I kinda like that for a change.
E.J. Noyes is one of THE discoveries for this year - another bright Aussie jewel in the lesfic crown. May she shine for years to come!

This is as close to perfection as you can get. Loved the book itself and hell if narrator Abby Craden didn't make it even sexier. Good lord - if you love a steamy romance (and I do) this is a must own. Audrey's voice is so ridiculously delicious I could listen to it on a loop. And her Mama character? Great. Definitely a Top 5 of all time for me - along with Alone, by the same author and narrator. Can a person wear out an audiobook? I'll be testing that out. ;-) The ONLY downside to this listen is that it spoils you. Badly. Please, E.J. and Abby - keep doing it.
Update: I had to listen to this again for the third time. Because I absolutely love it. And I was craving everything this book is. Also - I need to test my wearing out an audiobook thing. *sigh*
Update: 4th listen. I never tire of it. Ever. Delicious and sexy AF.
Update: 5th listen. You know an audiobook is outstanding when you love it more each time you listen to it. And I did. Loved it. So much. And while I often mention Audrey's voice as being a main draw, that would discount all the is wonderful about it. I love Isabel. I love her voice. I love her relatability (well - her emotional issues - not her I'm-gorgeous-and-own-a-mega-successful-financial-company persona.) I love that both were vulnerable. I love Isabel's relationship with her mama. I love how obvious it was that Isabel was in love with her early on, but she was too afraid to embrace it. I love, love, love Abby Craden's work on this. And yes - this is EJ's only erotic romance and I certainly wouldn't hate it if she wrote another because - good lord - she's good at it. So good. Is there anyone here that hasn't listened to this yet? Because you need to. Really.

Wow... and when I say 'wow' I mean... WOW. After the author's debut novel 'Ask, tell' got to my list of best books of 2017, I was wondering if that was just a fluke. Fortunately for us lesfic readers, now it's confirmed: E.J. Noyes CAN write. Not only that, she can write different genres ('Ask, tell' was a military story / romance, this one is a traditional romance) with exactly the same competence.
This is the story of Isabelle, a rich stockbroker who has a one-night stand with Audrey, unaware that she is the new-hired pilot of Isabelle's private jet. Having to meet each other almost every day, the plot focuses on how their relationship evolves. The book blurb might seem to describe a superficial romance between a rich woman and her f**k buddy/employee but nothing could be more remote. There are quite a few sex scenes, but they are justified within the plot as they showcase the evolution of their relationship. Additionally, they are all described tastefully.
Written in first person from Isabelle's point of view, the reader gets into her headspace with all her insecurities, struggles and character traits. Alongside Isabelle, we discover Audrey's personality, her life story and, most importantly, her feelings. The subplots and supporting characters add realism to the story, specially Isabelle's mother who shows her daughter in a different light. Throughout the book, Ms. Noyes pushes us down a rollercoaster of emotions as we accompany Isabelle in her journey of self-discovery. In the process, we laugh, suffer and enjoy the ride.
Overall, a very easy 5 stars. Highly recommended if you like romances with a bit of substance and don't mind a few (justified) sex scenes.

I found this to be a very good read that falls into a straight-forward, pure romance category. "Turbulence" is an f/f story where the romance leads with sex first, followed by heart. Though sex is immediate and often, I wouldn't exactly label this as erotica. And, because the chemistry strikes from the first page, intimacy exists right away and builds as the story goes along. We get warm fuzzies from page one.
There's not a lot going on to muck up the waters outside of the leads' own insecurities at play and even that is fairly mild. Reading this book is a bit like taking a Sunday drive over a gentle hill. The journey is still enjoyable but mellow.
The story has a certain element of fantasy, with Audrey being a drop dead gorgeous near perfect saint while Isabelle, the lead whose perspective we're in, is a beautiful, down-home, near billionaire with a short temper but a heart of gold. Both of our leads are likable, Isabelle has some good humor, and everything is just great...maybe that's where the story felt more at an arms length for me. Everything is a bit too pat and easy, even the drama. All people really need to do is talk to each other and, voila, all is well.
Despite the easy ride, which yes started to feel a bit long, I still felt compelled to read. I was never bored and really enjoyed it. My reaction wasn't "omg, this is amazing" but more "this is solid". It's well written.
And, I give bonuses to 1) no instalove and 2) the speech affectations given to Isabelle when her Southern was showing.

Audiobook 11/2019: phenomenal narration by Abby Craden. Brought all emotions along perfectly. Forgot how funny and sweet this book is. Absolutely recommend.
So I have been impatiently waiting for this book ever since I read Noyes’ first book (one of my favorites for many reasons) and it did not disappoint. Well written, the story takes you through the main character’s relationship evolution from just physical to genuine care, to love. Somewhat backward events but effective nonetheless. Nice flow, relationship not rushed and you can feel the emotions growing and evolving naturally.
Perhaps the book’s highlight is Noyes’ natural ability to tell the story. I can not express how much I love the first person-narration and especially the humor injected by the author. Noyes simply makes me laugh. Two books and I am certain I will read anything this author publishes (like a follow up to Ask, Tell thank you very much).

So how long before the next E.J. Noyes book? I'm know her debut novel, Ask, Tell will make it on my Best of 2017 list and this, her second will too. This book differs from her first as it is a romance through and through. If you love romances, you will most probably love this book.
As with Ask, Tell Noyes writes it in the First Person. I haven't read many in this style, but this maybe the 3rd in the last month or so. I'll have to add a tag. In this case the narrator is Isabelle Rhodes.
Isabelle, is a star stockbroker, on the top lists as one of the wealthiest woman and successful business person. There are well written minor characters - especially Isabelle's Southern Mom and her driver/un-official bodyguard, Penny. It was fascinating as we learn about Penny in little bits and for that matter, so does Belle.
One of my favorite quotes - "I'd always prided myself on treating employees respectfully. Did orgasms count as a respectful employee treatment? If so, color me super-respectful." Isabelle after recognizing their new pilot, Captain Graham.
So how long before the next E.J. Noyes book? I'm know her debut novel, Ask, Tell will make it on my Best of 2017 list and this, her second will too. This book differs from her first as it is a romance through and through. If you love romances, you will most probably love this book.
As with Ask, Tell Noyes writes it in the First Person. I haven't read many in this style, but this maybe the 3rd in the last month or so. I'll have to add a tag. In this case the narrator is Isabelle Rhodes.

2O19 hasn't been a good year for rereads, I DNF Jericho[Audio] then Requiem For Immortals[Audio] for the shittiest thing she did to LN. I was afraid to listen to Turbulence, I couldn't imagine abandoning my top Noyes' couple of all time but Audrey did not disappoint, she was perfect and I am so ready to sin for her.
Yes, I am freaking in love with Audrey. She's so damn cool, calm, collected, sensitive and attentive to Isabelle's needs without turning into a doormat. I can't help falling for this gorgeous, broken yet fully functioning soul. As for Isabelle, she might have been a pussy at times but there are reasons for her behavior and Noyes made us aware of them from the beginning. Through the craziness of their relationship - the status, their work schedules, Isabelle's anxiety issue, insecurities - Their story is the kind of story that makes me appreciate when nouns, verbs and adjectives are strung together to form these magical sentences, wowing me with some of the most clever, sexy and swoony scenarios imaginable.
Even though there are a lot of sexy and steamy moments, the emotions and interactions don't fall short at all. I devour the good plot, the sensual drawing bits and the erotic sex scenes. Isabelle thinks that her anxiety renders her weakness while Audrey sees her for what and who she is: A strong woman. Holy moly...I friggin' love these women! I know I'm rambling but I can't stop drooling and swooning over them. Hell, they can do me seven ways/6 days from Sunday. The writing is excellent, poetically beautiful even at times and keeps me glued to the headphone from start to finish.
Noyes can write no wrong. I’m in awe of her ability to write so effortlessly. Her words, sentences and dialogues just flow naturally, the way good writing should. Her writing is a vibrant veil of beautiful words. It’s mute. It’s loud. It’s sad. It’s happy. She conveys a rather huge spectrum of emotion through her writing. She’s not telling or describing, she’s directly transferring emotion and you are not reading, you’re living through it.

First of all, do not judge this book by its cover which in this case doesn't fit the tone of the book at all. The characters and story are a lot more complicated than the "fly me" cover.
I enjoyed this story, quite a bit actually, especially the first half or so. The neurosis and self-deprecating humor of the main character, Isabelle, was amusing. The writing style throughout the book was quick and intelligent.
Both characters are damaged by events of their past and with their newly discovered serious relationship, this damage needs to be confronted and dealt with.
The sex. Really? I think this story has more orgasms that the rest of my 'books read' on GoodReads combined. The author could have cut maybe 112 of them and the story would have benefited. I also would rather have the main characters' psychological issues begin to heal from therapy, conversation or their own epiphanies, not as the result of the inevitable, it seems in fiction anyway, big event.
I think E.J. Noyes has real talent with writing a well crafted story without many hiccups.

Isabelle Rhodes, high level stockbroker, wakes up naked and snuggled next to “Audrey-sex-on-legs-Graham,” a pick up from the previous night. No bother because they’re both single, consenting, and never going to see each other again. But life has a way of throwing curves which is lucky for us because the rest of the book is Heat in all its incarnations. This is Noyes so the story is well written, the mc’s are fleshed out, and the dialogue pops. There’s no question there.
But the reason I stayed up until 3am and then cried in frustration when my Airpods died before finishing is hard to put into words. I’ll just say, make way for a delicious all-nighter because what happens on the page and then narrated by Abby Craden is non-stop pleasure and reading at its most addictive.

Wowwwww!!! Damn this book made me skip dinner with some friends! It was THAT GOOD yes! Unbelievable chemistry between the characters! Such a good way of writing what you may assume a predictable one night stand turns into love storyline .. flawless and a solid 5 for me..
Actually I'm thinking this one should have a sequel because the ending has a lot of room for a sequel here ! I'm quite interested to see what happens with the company for example ..

This is a simple and traditional romance without big angst and deep story. After reading Noyes' first book Ask tell (one of my fave books from 2017), my expectations were very high, and this isn't a good thing because you can be easily disappointed. However, that didn't happen because the author has written a beautiful story where two people fall in love, a love full of insecurities but also full of emotions.

4 Stars. Only the best of writers cause me to pause in reflection at the end of a story. There is no disputing EJ Noyes’ writing ability, she has certainly mastered the art.
What I love is Noyes ability to create relatable characters that feel real. Both Isabelle and Audrey were wonderfully written. They are both irritatingly, flawed. In the best of ways these characters are human. They have their doubts and insecurities which flowed from the page to my heart.
One of my biggest critiques is that I’m a plot driven reader and this book has it stagnant moments. In the meantime, those moments are filled with sex. This book is littered with steamy scenes and if that’s your jam, then this is certainly the book for you. Although they are necessary for the plot, I found myself skipping through quite a few.
Towards the end of the book I began to dislike their relationship and it took a moment for me to understand why. I found their dependence on one another unhealthy. I understand that love, especially new love, can feel this way but theirs seemed a bit extreme, bordering on harmful.
In an act of love Audrey proudly states, “I’m not whole without you”. While it is a romantic line, I can’t ignore the unpleasant feeling it gave. The idea that someone is not truly themselves without someone else. The argument can be made that a parter should simply add to your life, not be the sole purpose for your happiness, which is what it felt between Audrey and Isabelle.
Even though I have these opinions, I understand their feelings completely. I have been in that exact situation myself. I’ve felt that way. Does this make me a hypocrite? Or does it make my opinion more valid?
In any event, if you are a romance fan and have not read this yet, I would suggest you give it a try for yourself and form your own opinion.

I love E.J. Noyes's style of telling a story and Abby Craden is bringing them to life. A team made in heaven.
What happens when a one night stand turns into a non-committal affair and then turns into love? Do Isabelle and Audrey have any chance of getting a happily ever after?
This book was just wonderful. I loved everything about it, the story, the narration, the character with all its flaws, uncertainties and fears, and the chemistry between them is like a firework.
The story from EJ Noyes is a wonderful romance with great characters and hot and steamy sex. It’s written from Isabelle's POV. So we get to know Audrey the same time Isabelle does, what works perfectly for this story.
And then Abby Craden comes in and breathes even more life into the story. Her voice variations are phenomenal and her sex voice melts every iceberg. Although I still read more books than listen to them, I must say that a good narrator brings an extra layer of emotion to the story. An audiobook is totally dependent on the narrator's skill, it can be top or flop. But no danger with Abby Craden, she is fantastic.

Turbulence has a lot had a lot of things I liked--it's sexy and has a lot of emotion to it, and I loved that the employee pursued the boss. The opening is brilliant, and I really like the concept of a one night stand that is too good to let end there.
That said, it's told in the first person from Isabelle's perspective and I had a really hard time connecting with her as a character. I want to be clear that I don't think she was badly written at all, she just really rubbed me the wrong way sometimes. So to always be present in her head didn't always work for me. Audrey, on the other hand, was WONDERFUL. I adored her and would love to see a follow up short story from her perspective.
For me, it's probably a 3.5 star review, but I'm rounding it up to 4 because of all of the positives I've listed above. E.J. Noyes is clearly a talented author and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

So after hearing all the hype about this author, I finally picked up my first book by Noyes.
Within the first 20% I was captivated, and the fear I had of not loving what everyone else was raving about abated.
Sadly, that changed around the 80% Mark. Speaking of Marks, I really could've have done without Mark, he was so 2 dimensional, I didn't give a crap about what his issues were. To think, the issues with him were the driving conflict was just plain gutting.
By around the 90% mark, I started skimming pages, and that is never a good thing. The ending left me feeling flat, another thing that's never good.
With all that said, there is plenty to love about the story. Noyes is a talented writer, there's no denying that. I love her wit, and as a reader partial to erotic scenes, I more than got my fill.

Laptop power supply fried so this is a late review. I don't know what book folks out there read, but I'm not sure it's the same one. I read several that this was a fluff piece. Whaaaaaaa? No it isn't. Good god the MC who is so emotionally stunted, both in her maturity level as well as her abundance of 'issues', caused the developing relationship to be .... meh... After a while I really lost interest. One actual conversation. That's all it would have taken. I hate it when fear rules the story arc.
And the job thing? Who puts in 80 hours a week on a job like that. You can't sustain that for long before you burn out. And in this one it's been going on for years. I'm not buying it. If you're co-CEO you're going to have a huge staff working for you. There is *no* reason whatsoever to believe she shouldered it all.
So all in all it was ok. I seriously loved Ask, Tell so this book really surprised me.

This book was AMAZING. The chemistry between Isabelle and Audrey is off the charts. Seriously. I think this book portrayed the growing feelings and relationship between the characters in the best way possible. I started to read this book awhile back but I put it down because of the one night stand but then I read other books by this author and I came back running to this one. I am so happy I did. Truly wonderful steamy read.

What a great read... I've seen so many great reviews and was hesitant to read this, hoping that the 'bar' wasn't set to high. Thoroughly enjoyed Noyes first book, Ask, tell. And I wasn't left dis appointed with this one too. Great story and the characters have chemistry .

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this! Based on the description, I anticipated more erotica than plot, but the story struck a wonderful balance between the two, with each element beautifully complementing the other.

Update after fifth (at least) audiobook listen: PERFECTION. I’ve listened to literally hundreds of audiobooks narrated by Abby Craden and this is one of her best. This is the only time she’s ever done the Audrey voice and it is SO RIDICULOUSLY SEXY! Her Isabelle is just right - especially when she slips into her slight southern drawl. And Mama? Fabulous. One of my all-time favorite audiobooks I never tire of!

It's not something she usually does, but her ex told her she sucks at relationships and the woman was so deliciously inviting. Oh well - there's no chance of seeing her again, she doesn't live in that city, so what could be the harm?
Until - she is shocked to learn that the woman, Audrey Graham, turns out to be the new pilot her business partner hired for their private jet. Who she'll see several times a week. What a potential HR nightmare! Well - she’ll just have to regroup. They can keep their mutual physical attraction in check, right? Isabelle must. They must. It's doesn't matter how mind-numbingly good the sex was. Right?
These women have off-the-charts chemistry and it was such fun watching the relationship develop. I loved the characters - especially Audrey - who had a healthy amount of self respect and wasn't willing to accept less than she deserved.
This is a very well written, sexy and fleshed out workplace romance. If that's your speed, put it at the top of your list. You won't be disappointed.

I feel like I've become one of those cliche women you see on the Lifetime Movie Network. I want more out of my relationships but I keep falling for the same guy over and over again. In this instance it's LGBT romance novels. I see a blurb, it reminds my of the good old days when I was a baby lesbian and just finding lgbt romance books. What could possibly be better than the heart wrenching girl meets girl, girl falls for girl, she loses the girl and then Yay.... wins her back. Oh and the fun sex scenes that no one was getting in real life. I grab the book, and damn it all its the same stuff I was reading forever ago and it's boring and predictable. Did I say boring? I find myself reading these things thinking "Who would put up with this crap? This doesn't happen in real life." Oh and in this day in age, someone's ass would be sued/fired faster than you could turn the page. One of us hasn't grown up even a little bit. Oh and don't you be saying CAB it's you. Fine it is me. I want MORE but I keep falling running back in the hopes the relationship can be rekindled. This is my crying out for an intervention. I'm either going to have to keep re-reading a few old faithfuls or find an RA (romance anonymous) group to keep me on track with other genres.

Update January 2020: I finished listening to the divine Ms. Craden's voice on Ms. Noyes' audiobook....can I now give this a 6 star review? Is that allowed? She was the PERFECT Audrey for one, god did I feel things. Deeply. Wow. I loved every minute of the audio, and even though I have read the book probably about 4 times and now a nice even 5 with the audio, it just keeps getting better.
Audrey is my number one lesfic girl crush right now. Yep. That's all.

I find when seeking out f/f romances that the balance between getting a good, detailed and meaningful story and having exciting, fun sex scenes that flow throughout the book (and not just in the last 3/4 like most books) hard to find. This book has it all!

Isabelle and Audrey.....can we get any better names for two strong, beautiful, funny and intelligent lead characters? This is one of my all time favourites, first reading it about 8 months ago and recently devouring it again. Not only do I really enjoy the story and build up between these two characters, but this book is hot. Really hot. Flirtation, seduction....daaaammmn. I’ve always said (at least when speaking in Spanish) that expectations are treacherous. This book was recommended to me so many times, the rating is very good and yes, I liked it, but I don’t know what I was expecting.
This was my second audiobook (if I recall correctly) and this time was narrated by Abby Craden and yep, she has a gift.
Regarding the story it was good, maybe the pace didn’t work for me. I even feel a bit guilty that I didn’t connect with it as many of the people that I follow did. The story is well written. This romance book is enjoyable, with enough drama and most importantly, distributed wisely. Both main characters are very likeable. You understand where the drama is coming from and that is a relief.
There was a lot of rambling and that for me is hard to pass, I love a good description but there’s a limit and here happens on several occasions and sometimes is very repetitive. In my perspective there was missing more connection between the MCs, a bit more talking and less f.. or having both equally?
