Betrayed by the love of her life at sixteen, causing her to flee her home, Amber Daniels’ taste in men hasn’t improved over time. With a bitter divorce under her belt, she returns home to support her sisters and dying mother. It takes one day before she finds herself in trouble with the local werewolves—and being rescued by her childhood crush. One hot look and the pain returns…overshadowed only by the desire. But Amber’s older, wiser, and unwilling to be burned yet again.

Desmon Nightwind was an angry youth the night his world exploded and he lost his mate. Now pack alpha, he’s no longer an untried teen, but still wholly unprepared for Amber’s return to Hollow Mountain. He lost her once. No amount of pack politics, family strife, or alpha obligations will make him let her go a second time. He’ll do whatever it takes to claim and protect his human mate. Even battle neighboring wolves using anything at their disposal to start a war.

They don’t fight fair…and neither will Desmon.

I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

Although the book had a nice start (Demon and Amber met when they were children and Amber saved the little wolf), I did not particularly liked the story. More specifically I did not like Desmon Nightwind's behaviour.
1. He totally betrayed Amber giving her to his friend without explaining his intentions and his world. A simple explanation would have been enough.
2. All the years they were seperated, he was sleeping around despite the fact that he had found his mate.
3. He never searched for Amber. He did not even asked her parents where she was.
4. When he found her, he was jealous because she got married while she was away. No grovelling at all.

Overall very mediocre story. And it certainly would have been better if it was shorter. After a while, it was just too much fuss about nothing.

“You’re all I ever wanted!” he called out as she tried to get away. “It never made a difference that we were young when you promised yourself to me. I’m not human like you. I can’t write it off. Weres don’t just move on after they’ve found their mates, Angel. We mate for life.”

Still didn’t stop him from having sex with other women. I don’t fault her for getting married and moving on. She was human after all. Humans don’t mate for life like werewolves do! And he had the nerve to be upset when he finds out that she was once married. And the worst thing was her husband was a abusive cheating ass. So while she was getting abused he was getting it on with who knows how many women.

So let’s get this straight. What I got from that excerpt is that hero/wolves mate for life. That means to me they shouldn’t and can’t have sex with other women but this so called “alpha” hero was too much of a pussy to fight for his mate when they were 16 years old! He knew then that she was his mate and what did he do at the first sign of trouble? HE GAVE AWAY HIS MATE TO HIS BEST FRIEND! His alpha gave him an ultimatum, mate in the traditional way (half man, half wolf) in front of everyone there or breed the OW so he could have alpha pups. The alpha also would rape the heroine in front of everyone So he chose the OW and gave his mate/heroine to his best friend. The heroine had to see him grab the naked OW’s hands and run off to god knows where to breed the OW.
Couldn’t he had killed the alpha in that moment? He did it anyway few months later or soon after this incident. He was born an alpha, he was strong enough to kill him in that moment but he didn’t. He hurt the heroine by giving her to his best friend and by leaving with the OW and making the heroine think he was off having sex and “breeding” the OW. Some alpha he is. She was only upset for a bit. When the hormones hit she forgot that he gave her away and that he made her believe that he was mating the other girl.

And while he didn’t have sex with the OW. He lied to his alpha. But the damage was already done. The heroine left town thinking that she was not enough for him, that he left her to have sex with the OW.

“Mute, and still reeling from Desmon giving her to his friend, she stared in disbelief as he stormed toward the naked woman, grabbed her hand and nearly dragged her into the darkening woods.”

There’s no real mention on how many women he slept with. But I did skipped a lot. I could be wrong all I know for sure that he was as well as her a virgin when he gave her to his friend. And 15 years later well he’s not! So much that he said he “suffered” from being separated from his mate. Yea he suffered alright. It was such of suffering sleeping with OP while his mate thought he never wanted her.

4 "Beastly" Stars!

Wow! That was much more intense than I anticipated. I was expecting a little insta mates, mine, some very detailed bow chicka wow wow scenes, lame conflict, predictable solution, and done! Well, I got all that, but the conflict was not lame, and the intimate detailed scenes were rather primal... dare I say animalistic.... Let's just say there was more biting and blood involved than I thought there would be. *ouch But hey, they didn't mind at all. And because all the rest went a little different than I thought, the conflict solution wasn't all that predictable. The whole story was a good surprise!

Anywho... I liked both main characters Amber took a little too long to get with the program, therefore she ended up in a GASP! situation. That went all kinds of... well, I'll let you read about it if you want to. Desmond was super sweet and understanding and very, very viciously Alpha when he needed to be. Just like I like'em. I will definitely be looking forward to the next installment of the Nightwind Pack. Happy reading!

Fantastic series!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: second chance
Angst: 😱😱1\2
Smexy: 🔥🔥

This is such a fantastic series - I'm really enjoying it! Shattered is fast paced with tons of action and characters you become invested in. I love a childhood sweethearts second chance story and this one definitely delivered. I'm actually even more excited for the next book, which is similar.

An unexpected reconnection
Such a fantastic book two. The authors were able to keep the intensity throughout the entire story and the characters are becoming more and more relatable with each book. I think I’m a little in love with Jazz, and more than a little in love with Miles. The way they support each other is what I think pack is meant to be and it really enriches the story. I can’t wait to read all about this continuing fight to change perceptions and keep the humans safe as the series continues. I really hope Jazz finds his Marcy because it seems like the Goodwins have more hidden than the Nightwinds realize. And it would be amazing if Miles finds the woman that helps him return to his wolf. But no matter what happens next I ahh sure to enjoy it.

amber and Desmon

This one was amazing the first book was good and all . Until this one wow I truly loved the storyline and all the characters, This one was more intense and had a backstory which I loved.
Amber, and Desmon, he fights hard to get her back, he’ll do anything and wont stop until he does. If you enjoy intense, gritty, paranormal shifter romances. With hot sexy alphas and amazing storyline’s then start reading these

I totally recommend reading it.

Ok read...Desmon and Amber meet when they are like 6 and form a forbidden friendship. On his 16th bday he ask her to be his mate, and she says yes. Too bad a crazy alpha gets involved which leaves Amber feeling like D betrayed her (he was trying to save her life) Amber comes back into town like 15 years later divorced and runs into D.

The plot didn’t really work for me. Amber was abused and would be used to chaos in her home life, so I felt like it was a little OTT that she felt so betrayed that she ran off to her dad in another state. In the first chapter she is 6, and says he looks about 9, which made her 13ish when this all went down.

I also lost patience with her poor me, I don’t know what to do attitude. Her younger sisters showed mor maturity.

The book ends, and we get closure for the couple, but there is an ongoing conflict with a rival pack and that will continue with Jazz’s story which is up next. I hope he finds his mate is alive since they never found her body.

Hate Katie, how she literally has no pride while the guy just walks all over her. I myself felt humiliated every time I read her part. Marl who walks all over Katie knowing that she has feelings for him and enjoys rape-fantasy, would even fuck other women in front of her if he wants to, and she'd be begging him on her knees not to -.- that was literally the worse part of the book and knowing that women is her "Katie's" sister is even worst
I hope she doesn't make their story into a book and just let them be the side leads cause I might give a 0/10 to these characters. The main Leads weren't any better, I liked the how it began but when she confessed she loved him and he betrayed her trust. I've literally read all of her books, while some are so good that I find myself re-reading it again and again and never get bored, while the others are not my cup of a tea but this is the worst so far -.-

Fifteen years ago, the Nightwind pack was run by a corrupt alpha that hated humans. Because of this, Desmon and Jeremiah lost the love of their lives.
Jeremiah's beloved died. Desmon's was gone.

After a bloody war, the two friends decided to share the pack and they were hard but loving alphas, and no one else in the pack was ever accepted by mistreating a human.
So when one of his wolves at the Hollow Mountain City Bar was being violent with his human girlfriend, Desmon came in to defend her. And what was his surprise to discover not only that that girlfriend was the sister of the woman he loved, but that the missing, Amber Daniels, was back in town.

Amber and Desmon met as a child when she found a small injured wolf and helped him.
From then on they started a friendship that turned into something else.
Amber wanted to be Des's girlfriend, but his alpha would have her killed if he found out about her.
On Des' 16th birthday, when he came to visit her, he was followed, and she was brought before the alpha.
Desmon had to make a decision that broke Amber's heart, and she preferred to leave for Florida, live with her father, leaving Des, and her sisters, Beatrice and Katie.

Now, with her mother's death, Amber has returned - after a failed marriage - to take care of her sisters and preferably take them away, but knows that Katie was involved with a wolf and did not want to leave.

Desmon finally found his great love and would not let her go.
Amber finds herself lost in the midst of her feelings. She realized that her love for Desmon was not over, but she thought the wolves too complicated to live together.
And while proving to Amber that he never forgot her and they could be together, a new attack on the pack makes Amber the perfect prey.
His human Amber was transformed and Desmon would even start an overwhelming war if he had to have Amber back.

Fast paced quick read with a happy ending this story is more of a 3.5 for me

Amber finds a black pup that's been hurt before her eyes he turns into a wolf. They fall in love from 6 to 16 tell Amber feels betrayed. 14 years pass before they see each other again and Desmon must fight for Amber to see him and be with him forever. I felt like there was substance of the story missing. I also get it's a continuing series with a different couple but I always like a epilogue . I'm not a fan of a series that has a different couple every time where you only get glimpse of the other couples in the book before.

2.5 stars. I think this started off well but when it was suddenly like 15 years in the future, it just kind of lost me. I didn't feel like I really knew or connected with Amber or Desmon. I almost felt like nothing really happened and it was more of a filler story. Eh, just not for me, I guess.

A solid 4⭐︎ offering for this 2nd installment in the Nightwind Pack series, another light hearted, lower stakes shifter story with a HEA.

This is the story of Desmon/Des and Amber/Ams/Angel. Having met due to an accident at age 6, these two become close friends and more as legal adulthood looms. Des declares his intentions to Ams about their future—he knows she's his mate—on his 16th birthday, and this is the same day everything goes sideways and terribly wrong for them. Ams ends up running away to her father in LA, and Des is alone and angry from then on, taking possession of the pack months later when he's finally able to get his revenge against his rotten Alpha. (Who is also Jazz's father and does some vile stuff to his son as well.)

15 years later, Ams is back home, because her mother is dying and her much-younger sisters will need the help after. But Ams doesn't know that a lot has changed since she was last in her small town and she has an altercation with another shifter in the local "neutral" bar. She's saved by the last person she thought she'd run into off pack land, and he's not letting her get away this time now that he knows she's back.

Both main characters have a lot of baggage thanks to the the catalyst incident in the past and their lives since then.

Ams goes on to be in a rotten marriage with a dreadful man who denied her everything she truly wanted and was cheating on her at every turn, so she divorces him and has decided all people suck and will betray you. Once back home, Ams discovers her sisters have quite a few bones to pick with her for abandoning them to a terrible fate, despite her efforts to provide them all a better life.

Des has been lonely and pining for his mate and his wolf would accept no substitutes—he's been alone and missing her for over a decade while wondering what ever happened to her—while focusing on turning the pack around into one more friendly to female wolves, humans, and scrubbing out "the old ways." Though they still have some throwbacks like Merl. Tensions with the other local pack—Goodwin—have continued to mount and are threatening to come to a head.

The final 30% of this book focuses on a transformative event for Ams—and where the humor decides to kick in, making it a surprisingly enjoyable section to read. The interactions between Rich and his Alpha? Priceless.

Great Series !

This sexy shifter romance is co-authored by two amazing authors, Laurann Dohner and Kele Moon. It had a strong, fast flowing plot, and endearing characters. Amber and Desmon grabbed my attention with the first few pages and from there I couldn't put the book down until the last page.

I can't wait to read the next book.

[I picked it up April 1 but only read the prologue, and REALLY started reading it on April 5; just to note]...

And TBH I DNF'd it on April 6... because I kept thinking to myself "why am I reading this? Reading this is like a punishment."

First of all the heroine is an angry punching bag. I get her early life was shitty but like ... (and sure I know my world view is a bit skewed) but ... IME her life was more normal than not ...
and then how incredibly shitty her middle sister is to her [half sister]
On the one hand I get it " "
but on the other hand her "boyfriend" was going to rape her and she's just ... cool with it and mad her sister stopped it.

O_o

AND THEN - obviously ok I get the [heroine] being mad at how things went down when she was 16.
But when it's EXPLAINED to her - that the [hero] stopped her from being BRUTALLY RAPED and then likely being attacked by HIM even unwillingly on his part because he would've been out of his mind - and she's mad at HIM.
... WTAF.
I get the pain of the then occurence.
But it's been what, 14 years? And then all things considered, even it HAD been the same timeline/she was just 16 ... still the better option of them not mating the "traditional way" that night.

HOWEVER ALSO THE BIGGER POINT - WHY DIDN'T HIS COUSIN JUST FUCKING TELL HER WHAT WOULD'VE HAPPENED WHAT DESMOND SAVED HER FROM THAT NIGHT?
Like... that seems INCREDIBLY FUCKING BASIC, YEAH?!

But nooooooo
Of couuuurrrsee they don't say so she stewed about it for fourteen years or whatever - because otherwise what conflict would there be? [I mean a lot- but less manufactured wangst which apparently would've been a bad thing.]

Yeah. I'm in a mood.
But that seems fairly obvious.

[WHY DID HE NOT JUST EXPLAIN IT THAT NIGHT? THE COUSIN. OBVIOUSLY IT WAS A BIG DEAL.

So anyway, this book is not for me.

This was a disappointment since the first book in the series wasn’t bad at all. This one was constant violence, threats of rape, misogyny, and even the love scenes were violent. The world building in this one made me hate the whole werewolf culture. Basically way too many bad guys and not enough likeable characters to offset the villains. Ugh, so disappointed.

SHATTERED (Nightwind Pack Book 2) by Laurann Dohner & Kele Moon, and I started reading this immediately after finishing Book 1 CLAIMED! Each book in this four-book series, is about a different couple.

Amber Daniels was a six-year-old troubled little girl who was hiding from a cruel, mean and abusive stepdad when she heard what she thought was a puppy's crying. It must have been hit by a car and left by the side of the road. She'd wanted to help the poor thing and started to try and comfort the animal. But to her surprise he'd all of a sudden turned into a young boy covered in blood. He told her he must hide so no one could find out what he was, and she must tell no one ever. Also, he'd be able to heal on his own, but needed to hide to do so. Amber took the boy who'd said his name was Desmon to her own hiding place. Over the years they spent as much of their time as they could in the same hiding hole. He'd promised when she was of a legal age, he would come for her and make her his mate. Much to their horror some pack members had followed him that very day. They'd taken Amber to see the bad Alpha of his pack. He had threatened both Amber & Desmon. So, he saved her the only way he knew and sent her home with his best friend. Desmon hadn't realized that she is being human, was traumatized so much by the werewolves, that she didn't return to her childhood home. But had runaway and planned to never come back. Years past but never say never, her stepsister called to tell her to come home that their mother was dying. It does not take long after Amber returns home to find out her stepsister Katie, is dating a werewolf. She goes to get her at the bar where the man/wolves hangout. Katie's boyfriend doesn't appreciate Amber trying to take her sister away from him at all. When Amber attacks him it isn't her brightest moment. She is in real danger! But who gets there just in time for him to save his lost love? The now Alpha of the Pack, Desmon Nightwind! The moment they meet again, the attraction between Desmon & Amber reignites like she had never left. Yet, they're much different than they were as teenagers.
