This is my first read by author; Linda Goodnight and this novel is #7 in the series, "Calypso County, Texas". I have not read the first 6 novelist the series however this was a really emotional short novel in regards to making the ultimate choice of becoming an organ donor or as a parent having to make that choice for a child. It was a very heartbreaking, full of healing, finding God in your life once again and moving forward. This novel was also so sweet with a friendship once lost between two childhood friends leading into a sweet Valentine's. I really loved this novel, the characters, the setting, everything was so well written. It was really good. If you are interested in a sweet quick read, full of emotions then give this author a try. You won't be disappointed🤗

I love Linda Goodnight's books and this one did not disappoint. This book is part of a series but it definitely can be read without having read the rest of the books. This was a really emotional book that deals with the organ donation from both sides of the spectrum.
Cowgirl Mesa was having difficulty climbing out of her depression when her husband cheated on her and their marriage ended and then her young son died in a freak accident. Her ex-husband blamed her and she blamed herself. Mesa's sisters insisted she return to the home she grew up in where her sisters still lived. She reconnected with Evan, a lawman, who had been her childhood best friend. Evan was now a single dad since his wife had died in childbirth leaving him with a precious daughter that he protected (make that overprotected) in every way possible. Mesa made the choice to donate her son's organs and Evan's daughter was the recipient of an organ donation.
The story was heartbreaking and yet full of healing, finding God in your life once again and moving forward. I really loved this novel, the characters and the setting.
Oh this book was SO good! It was an emotional rollercoaster for me! Two childhood friends who had had more tremendous losses than most of us will ever have nor can only begin to understand! Mesa and Evan reconnect when Mesa comes back to her hometown during a period of deep grief so she can be with her sisters again on their ranch and she can try to put her life back together, although it will never be the same. Evan lives at the neighboring ranch where he was when they were children and that's a comfort to Mesa but now he's got a daughter and is a widower. Together their friendship can pull them both through their grief and loneliness. However, Mesa finds out Evan's daughter is a heart transplant recipient and that changes things at first. You'll have to read the story to see what happens after that but there is so many emotions in this story. I was either crying or smiling or just feeling all was right with the world! I loved how Evan took the time to help out some juvenile delinquents too! And, Mesa's sisters are great! There's so much heart in this book, you need to read it!
Three Ways to Catch a Cowgirl by Linda Goodnight Calypso County, Texas Series Book Seven Mesa Brazos and her sisters Arizona and Lark had been raised by their grandmother who taught them how to ride horses and perform on them. Mesa was back on the Flying Sisters Ranch and training to rejoin her sisters in performing. After two years of depression from her losses in life, it was time to start living again. Easier said than done.
Evan Young is an undersheriff in Calypso County. He'd left Dallas to be closer to his parents, back to where he grew up. Less money, but more peace. His daughter, Ava, is his priority. After a heart transplant saved her life, he made sure nothing could harm her...everything except his overprotectiveness.
Evan and Mesa had been close friends and neighbors growing up and their friendship as adults comes easily. Each can see where the other person is stuck and needs to see more clearly, but change doesn't come easily. Wonderful characters and story. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Cowgirl Mesa was having difficulty climbing out of her depression when her husband cheated on her and their marriage ended and then her young son died in a freak accident. Her ex-husband blamed her and she blamed herself. Mesa returned to the home she grew up in where her sisters lived. There in her hometown she ran into Evan, a lawman who had been her childhood best friend. Evan was now a single dad since his wife had died in childbirth leaving him with a precious daughter that he protected (make that overprotected) in every way possible. Both had walked through the valley of the shadow of death and felt its sting. If you've ever faced a painful loss in our fallen world and asked "Why, God? Why?" then this book may offer some comfort and hope to you. In spite of the serious subject, the book was uplifting and positive. I highly recommend it! I received an ARC and this is my honest and voluntary review.
4 stars I purchased a copy of the novel Three Ways to Catch a Cowgirl: Hometown Heroes (Calypso County, Texas Book 7) by Linda Goodnight and this review was given freely. Vivid descriptions of the quaint small town of Refuge and its colorful residents and a series of robberies add interest to this poignant and ironic second chance at love Valentine's Day story featuring a grieving mother who questions her Faith and her choices. contains a strong advocacy for organ donation. Two years after her son Jeremy's drowning and death followed by her unexpected divorce, Mesa Brazos' sisters force her back to their Refuge,Texas ranch and into the family trick riding business where she is reunited with her childhood best friend and neighbor, the widowed overprotective single father Undersheriff Evan Young and his heart transplant survivor six year old daughter AVA.
Mesa and Evan are two childhood friends that both suffered losses. They connected when Mesa came back to her hometown to be with her sisters on their ranch. Mesa is now divorced from a cheating husband and lost her young son. Evan lost his wife in childbirth leaving him with his daughter that had a weak heart. She later got a heart transplant and Mesa’s son happen to be an organ donor. This connection along with their childhood friendship brought them closer and also helped with healing from their losses. There is so many emotions in this story, you will be crying and smiling. Even though there was sadness, it was also positive and uplifting. I received a free copy and this is my honest review.
This is the first book of Linda Goodnight that I’ve read & thoroughly enjoyed. This was a clean faith based romance of two people, Mesa Brazos and Evan Young, with his daughter Ava. Masa & Evan had their hearts broken, Mesa’s divorce & drowning of son Jeremy, Evan’s wife dying from cancer & Ava’s need for a heart transplant. The story takes you through the reconnection of their lives from their childhood crush to the trials they went through finding true Godly love & trust. Great characters, writing & supporting characters. Had a hard time putting it down & ended in a HEA-bring tissues. Will be reading more of Linda Goodnight’s work.
Mesa and Evan have both suffered loss but each are handling it in different ways. I so appreciated how the Lord was such a part of this story. He was such an encouragement to Mesa and a loving if not a tad over protective father. Loved how Mesa and Evan's daughter bonded so quickly. This book also handled organ donation and receiving in a most gracious way. I learned a lot about both. My heart really hurt for Mesa more than once. While there was angst it was IMO handled well and quickly. Gotta love the sister.
Mesa has faced the most terrifying thing a parent can face. And she’s still grieving, 2 years later. Her 2 sisters bring her back home to the family ranch, and make her help train the horses, and herself, so the 3 Flying Sisters can perform their trick riding shows again. Evan, who was her best friend in school, is now a widower with a little girl. Ava had a heart transplant as a baby, and he’s very overprotective. They grow close again, until an accident makes him pull away again. This was a beautiful story, touching on organ donations from the donors’ and the recipients’ point of view.
Linda Goodnight never fails to write books that make me want to read them in one sitting. Her characters and stories are wonderfully relatable and she writes so beautifully. Mesa and Evan are not strangers to tragedy, but with perseverance, prayer and love to bring them together they are able to begin again after so much time spent living in fear. This is a story about love and loss and finding just what they needed in the end.
The final book in the series and like the previous book it really just barely connect to the first five stories which I consider the main ones in the series. This is again more like a stand alone or a spin off.
And again, it’s an excellent read. Goodnight weaves into it the topic of organ donation, which is an important one. I should also warn that the loss of a child is a big part of this story.
I loved watching Mesa find peace, and I’m thankful. The author didn’t downplay what she gone through nor did it all just become rosie and fine.
I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. This is my honest review. Mesa has a tremendous loss in her life, her marriage and the life of her son. She decides to donate her son's organs, but still blames herself for his death. She comes back home to be with her sisters, but closes her heart to everyone, including God. She is reunited with her old friend, Evan who also has had a loss of his wife and his daughter who had a heart transplant. Will the two of them be able to live and trust each other and become a loving family? It is in God's hands.
The healing power of faith is often overlooked. Knowing love and human kindness is an awesome experience. Adding a knowledge of God’s Love gives faith in human existence. From there we can find our own reason, thank you, Jack!
I enjoyed the wounded characters in Goodnights’ book and the character arc. This was a fun setting with the trick riders and horses. A lot of emotion. Very well done.
I enjoyed this book about Mesa and her sisters. An undersheriff and an adorable little girl. I felt like the book was very realistic. It made me feel the pain, happiness and compassion that they all felt. I look forward to reading more.
