Protectors of Svante #1

A Bride for the Alien King

Rate this book
A fated mate is a rare gem … one I never thought I’d find.

With fifteen males born to a single female, women are my people’s most precious resource, one we’re in dire need of replenishing. And Earth is just the place to do it. Arranged matings are the only way we can survive, and as king I must set an example.

But I never thought I’d meet her.

One look at Rosa and I know she’s meant to be my queen. She’s nothing like I imagined, and more than I could ever dare wish for. But humans have only just learned that aliens exist, and I would surrender my kingdom before I forced her into a relationship she doesn’t want.

Time grows short as ancient enemies close in on my home planet, and if we don’t transport our volunteer mates quickly we will run out of time.

I cannot command Rosa to come with us … but I’m more than ready to seduce her into becoming my queen.

This was tolerable. It felt pretty formulaic though. Even worse, it very much felt like the heroine's thought process went like this:

"This is horrible. This is taking advantage of the poor. This is human trafficking"
"I'm a king. You'd be queen."
"Oh, sign me up."

There was legitimately exactly that much interaction between her meeting the alien and changing her tune and flouncing off to an alien world. Much of the rest of the book was like that too. Ray hit the expected plot points but didn't seem to put any real effort into letting it develop naturally. There was very little consistency in the technological level of the alien species. There was a distinct lack of other (non-servant) woman in the book. Even if they are born only 1-15, they should exist. And apparently, despite ostensibly being warriors and running a kingdom, the aliens have no concept of security. They let themselves be outplayed, tricked, beaten, and invaded far too many times to be believable. (See the statement above about needing to kit the expected plot point.)

All in all, not a winner for me. But the writing itself seems fine and the narrator did a fine job.

On a side note, what the hell is that cover? Beyond just being horrible in general, if you're going to put characters on a cover, at least make an effort to make them look right. He is described as olive-toned, with scales and no horns. She's a brunette.

Earth has become a world where the rich and poor are divided. Human women from the lower casts are being sought out by aliens for marriage contracts and babies and the Earth government is greedy. Finding their mates is a plus and they will do anything to protect them. But there is danger not only from those of other planets but within their own walls.

I enjoyed the story and felt for the characters.

These strong warriors adore their human women coming together and the chemistry between them explodes.

Eh

It was okay. The heroine bugged the snot out of me. She pulled the to stupid to live crap and got someone else killed. It was sad. Not any heat in this one either.

Rosa is a therapist she loves to help people but her client Madeline is nervous about something Rosa see’s the journal that Madeline is holding onto like her life depended on it and there is a blue piece of paper sticking out of it but Madeline said that she just came in to say thank you but it sounded like goodbye to Rosa and when Madeline left Rosa saw the blue piece of paper on the floor she picked it up and she couldn’t believe what she was reading it was a mail order bride program for aliens and it has the government’s seal and a barcode on it. Rosa couldn’t believe it but it was true so she called Edward who worked for the government and she came straight out with it but from his silence she knew it was true so Edward told Rosa to come to his office and they will talk about it but instead Rosa went to the meeting place that’s on the paper and there she saw a woman who she knew, then suddenly this 7 foot tall alien walked in and Rosa flushed at the sight of him and when he looked at Rosa in the eyes she felt a current of electricity go through her body. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but if you want to know what happens to Rosa then you will need to get this book, this is a fantastic story I enjoyed it immensely and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Title: A Bride For The Alien King
Author: Roxie Ray
Format: Audio
Narrator: Meagan Evans
Genre: SciFi Alien Romance, Royalty, Fated Mates, Action
Standalone: Kind of, not really - Rosa and Quatix' story is complete but the overarching story is not
Part of a Series: Book 1 of the Protectors Of Svante
POV: Rosa and Quatix
Steam Level: Not much
4/5

A Bride for the Alien King is book 1 in the Protectors of Svante series. While Rosa and Quatix's story is complete, the overarching storyline is not. Rose is from Earth, stumbling upon a secret alien bride exchange program. Setting out to stop it, she agrees to go instead, being drawn to the Alien King. The action starts almost immediately, making thing quite the adventure for Rosa. I liked the different alien characters and battles that occur. I'm listening to this series in a set which is good because I didn't want to leave this world and want to see what happens next.

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Quatix and Rosa are perfect for each other!
by sewsummore

Rosa was a fighter, born of drug an alcohol addicted parents she fought her own drug addiction to become a therapist to help others. Investigation a secret report that women are being recruited as wives for an alien race, she comes into contact with their King. Quatix had not intend on taking a bride this trip but knew when he first saw Rosa that she was his future mate. This was a powerful introduction to a new series. Earth is dying and becoming a bride to an alien ensures not only some of the humans will survive but because of the falling number of svantian women their race will as well. Quatix and Rosa are perfect for each other and together they fight against rebels and traitors intent on releasing chaos in innocent worlds.I have no hesitation recommending this remarkable story.

Svante

Really loved reading this book, there was alot going on,right from the beginning. Rosa was a very strong character, after the earth suffered such catstrofic damage, lots five people died,so the class of people lower or rich, she was from the poor sector. She felt with her parents then herself being addicts. Then her little sister died ect. Those things helped make her strong. She became a doctor to help others. When she met the King of Svante it was instant sparks and chemistry. It was a little slow at the beginning but picked up. I would like to have seen the mates to Svante have some sort of special abilities, and maybe something more involved with mating,ya they soulbond but I would like to was them gain some Svante's looks and abilities.I hope there is another book for King Quatix and Rosa or maybe in the following books in series. Hope to see Brag get a happy ending too!!! But over all loved the book!!

DNF @ 35%

It started out alright but got really boring and formulaic quite early on. I kept losing interest so I'd stop reading and try and pick up where I left off but finally gave up after a month.

I liked that the heroine was a therapist and the fact that the prince wasn't your typical domineering a-hole, but I didn't feel any real chemistry or tension between these two. Aside from him being a prince, his character was pretty dull. There was just a complete lack of tension throughout the story, nothing which kept the two romantic leads from getting together or any sort of conflict that might keep the reader interested.

The characters were really good. It always seems as if the Human race can populate the entire galaxy and we are really good at doing that. Quatix, the king, found his queen in Rosa. Instead of whisking her away with the other human women who volunteered to populate his planet he has to woo her and seduce her. (Works all the time, seducing) I love meeting the other characters in the book and hope that next book I can pronounce the names better. Read it in one sitting it was so good. Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Rosa was interested in helping the addicts. The King from Svantian seen Rosa and presumed that she was in the program. That she was to become an alien bride. Rosa and Quatix had instant attraction, they went slow so he did not scare Rosa away. The chemistry was a good mix, action was fast paced, it really had enough emotions to keep you interested till the last page.

A dream

It’s a dream and a nightmare rolled into one. I mean you live with the segregation of the classes rich one side and middle class and poor in the other, where the rich take all. (No fair) Only way out marrying a hot alien (YES!) but of course it makes the rich richer (uh!) and it’s the poor that get sold off cuz the rich are too important. Jokes on them though the planet is dying....hmm. Yep I’d rather be the middle class, marrying an alien to inadvertently save myself from blowing up on earth for 500 Allen.

Great story - highly recommend but fraught w grammatical issues

This story has a lot of fade out intimacy, no cheating and ends with a HFN.

There is violence and death. The storyline is wonderful, imaginative and has strongly defined characters and story universe.

The reason I didn’t give this a higher rating is the grammatical issues such as missing words (I.e. to, be, the, is), switching a supporting female’s name (Sophia) with the heroine (Rosa), one complete phrase that was jumbled up, misspellings (me vs my).

A really good book. Lots of action and romance. There are no sex scenes in the book. She writes the beginning of a scene, stops and goes on to the next scene, but there is no doubting that there is passion between them. While the book goes fast because the story is good there are well over 200 pgs in the book.

First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review. Also this author is new to me, and I hope it won't be my last.

Holy shiznet!!! I couldn't put this book down. My emotions were all over the place. I cried so hard it hurt. There were just a tiny amount of name mix ups throughout this story. Not enough to deter the reading. This author really can weave a gr8 story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up

This is a well-written love story that is heavy in Action and little on the dark side. The characters are exceptionally written and you are emotionally on a roller coaster until the end of the book. You get pulled this way and that, and their chemistry is great. This story has action, drama, intrigue and romance. A must read Alien Romance

It was a subtle alien romance story. Nothing overly intimate but more of a romancing of Rosa. As the King, he needed to find a mate and romance her to being his. It was a fabulous beginning book of the series and can not wait to read more!!

I loved this book. There was some funny and some angry moments,a mix of emotions. I can not wait for the next book in the series. Very well written!

Rosa came across a flyer advertising an alien bride service. On the ship she ended up stumbling onto more than she bargained, with the King.

This is the first book in a new series and it’s a story that is full of action and emotions. The plot is an interesting one and it’s told at a steady pace. The characters are also interesting and there are some misunderstandings for them to overcome.

Good start to this series

Lovely sweet story between the King and his chosen Queen, but really wished you hadn't included such sadness within, had to sit with a box of tissues and in a way, it upset the rest of the story for me, even though it was well written, but I do prefer hea's.
