An intoxicating new romance by Alexandria House - available in audio first!
Stable, safe, predictable - all words that aptly describe Professor Nadia Day's life. An existence she's carefully crafted for herself despite her unconventional upbringing and what, to her, is an unseemly past. More than anything, she wants to forget her unstable history, and the last thing she would ever do is rock the boat when it comes to her life and livelihood.
When retired football player and single dad, Nathan Moore, walks into her psychology classroom, all fine and dreadlocked, he does more than rock her boat - he rocks her world and causes her to question her buttoned-up existence.
Will the professor give in to her desires and become a student of love?
About the author A true southern girl, Alexandria House has an affinity for a good banana pudding, Neo Soul music, and tall black men in suits. When this music-loving fashionista is not shopping, she's writing steamy stories about real black love.
4.5 stars! Teach Me knocked it out of the park! Half star docked because Nadia had a couple pushover moments in situations that I thought she should have given two people hell in and she didn’t, and there was a moment towards the end where she did something i didn’t care for, but otherwise this story was hilarious and steamy. That combined with the narrators had me laughing and reacting out loud. I will probably have to edit this review in the morning, but I have to be up in 4 hours for work 😂
Ms House knows she can write her behind off... and in case she didn't, she does now! GO ON GIRL! The narration was on point as usual, but if they don't have something good to read, it cant stand up on it's own. Pretty sure I yelled out some cuss words listening to this one. So SO proud of you! Keep doing it!
Nathan might’ve been the student in professor Day’s psychology class but he was the one that said 🗣️class is in mf session!!!! Ooowwwwww!!! Ive been putting off this book for a while now based off the mixed reviews however I’m glad I finally gave the book a try because I really enjoyed it. If nothing else, A House is consistent with the stories she delivers and this one was no different.
After surviving a very interesting upbringing and rocky past, Nadia was determined to live life as lowkey as possible and it’s a wonder she’s able to do so with such a free spirited and sexually liberated mother and sister! I mean these two were something else 😩😩. Nadia managed to maintain focus until a sexy, ex football player and single father to two special needs children waltzes into her class and turns her world upside down.
I had no idea this was a BDSM story going into this audiobook but it was a nice surprise. Have I experienced a better delivery of a BDSM story? Yes! But what we get in this book is appropriate for the overall story and theme of the book. With SO MUCH happening in the book and the many plot twists that took place the BDSM was delivered in such a way were a “normal” couple enjoys a few kinks and spicing up their relationship while dealing with real ass day to day problems. For me it was well balanced and not overly done.
While the sex scenes weren’t mind blowing, the chemistry and vibes between Nathan and Nadia did it for me. I was not expecting for some of the big reveals and that completely caught me off guard. I also enjoyed catching up with my favorite McClains!! This was a good start to the series and I’m looking forward to seeing what books 2 & 3 have to offer.
This book was just okay. It started out very slow and it did eventually picked up but not enough for me to give it 5 stars. Given the subject matter of Teach Me, it was very PG-13. I've read other books about S&M and they were way hotter. Even the sex scenes fell flat. They were just okay. The only thing I really liked about this book was, being able to catch up with the McClain family and Uncle Lee Chester.
Oh boy. To start off, I was watching Desperate Housewives today and the female narrator sounded very similar to Renee/Vanessa Williams (I know she's not, but their voices are so alike) which kept me amused when all else failed. But even with the Renee sound-a-like I just couldn't finish this.
I'm not a big fan of the student teacher trope, I don't hate it, and if it works - it works, but I won't seek it out myself. However, I had confidence in this author, even though I never read her books before, that she could make this good.
And maybe it is good, but it's not for me.
It started with the strange asexual comment (included in my reading updates under the review) and kinda went downhill from there. Not much was happening, and I'm sure it eventually picks up, but I really don't feel like sticking around to see if it does.
But I will not be giving up on Alexandria House that easily, there are still a couple of her series that I want to read and hopefully they'll work for me.
By Alexandria House Narrated by Jakobi Diem and Adenrele Ojo
I am happy to see more black love stories on this site. I love the cover! I am so glad the community really enjoyed this book.
The first half of this book was a smooth love story. I loved listening to this man court this woman. His pursuit was thoughtful and elegant. The narration was on point. I can visualize Nathan right now! Jakobi's voice will melt you like chocolate. I mean he really put it down.
But unfortunately, things went from romantic to hectic about halfway through. It felt like the author threw in every unused story line she had in her bucket list. The story went from man seeking woman and then jumped into the Twilight zone.
There is a: • Dead Fiance' • Dead Baby momma • Deaf child • Autistic child • Sex Therapy Mother • Sister falls in love with half brother • Sister sleeps with bestfriend ex • Hostage situation • Momma falls dead • Another momma has stroke • Drug addict baby momma • Stalker situation And more... all in the second half!
In Chapter 27 - Nadia begs Nate not to dump her. It was a bit pathetic. We flaunt a story with a strong black woman but this section of the story didn't fit.
In addition, I wasnt feeling how the southern characters were portrayed.
The story just went in a totally different direction in the second half. I was in love and then crazy came out.
I am glad there is such a positive response to a black romance. The extra stuff just turned me off.
3.5 Plot wise this was good i mean teacher×student. She's the teacher he's the student....but it just didn't hit in the right places.
•For example our male lead is a dominant but we didn't get details ob the sex. Like all we got was him choking her and she begged for it to be done the whole book. There chemistry was off thw charts but the author didn't give us mind blowing sex.
•Another problem is that it had too much drama and left things kinda hanging/unanswered. Also the slang talk(if i could call it that) was not it for me. I don't stay in the states so i can't be sure that this is how black people speak like who the fuck calls their pussy 'Yoni' why???? Like????? Call it as it is PUSSY, VAGINA. Nothing less, nothing more. Oh one more thing i was turned off when she called his 🍆a big stick. She's 29/30yrs btw to think she could have been more creative.
TW: drug abuse, child neglect, school shooting, death of a parent and gun talk
TW: Death of a parent, alcoholism, drug use, abuse and neglect, suicide, gun use, school shooting drill
Ohhhh I liked that this had a little BDSM element. I wasn’t expecting that!!
There was a little thing that happened with like 40 minutes left of the audiobook that really came out of left field and was not resolved by the end of the book... which left me uneasy...
I loved that this wasn’t a true teacher-student story but more of an adult awakening romance. Nadia and Nathan were both good people who tragic past romances but with each other they got to do it differently and they got it right.
The chemistry was amazing, their banter entertaining and the light bdsm was just rights. Nadia’s parents were funny for different reasons but they add a nice layer to this story. Nathan’s people weren’t fun but their behavior made his journey make sense.
I loved the relationship with the kids Mecca and Ian. I would have liked just a little more of the kids story but this is a good family unit.
Audiobook Review: I have become a fan of Alexandria House's novels and this one did not fail. I loved Nadia and Nathan and how they overcame past hurts and allowed their relationship to blossom into a romantic one. This was not what I was expecting as I thought this would be a professor/student read, but it didn't feel like that once you got into the story.
I've also become a fan of Jakobi Diem and Adenrele Ojo as narrators. Love their narration of this story and still think Jakobi's voice is so sexy.
Loved the super hot chemistry between Professor Day and her student, Nathan Moore. That's a delicious tease right there. However, both participants are over the age of consent and the push and pull between them is an eye-opening journey.
I loved how Nathan treated his "special needs" kids with such love, respect and patience. However, both Nadia and Nathan, carry dangerous baggage from "certain" family members as well as deep, dark secrets from their past. Awesome story!
So this story actually came out on audible first, now I don't do audible because I don't want to do a monthly subscription, I just don't LOL!! So I had to wait before it was released via e-book and it was definitely worth the wait.
Dr. Nadia Day, Ph.D. College Professor at Romey University. Nadia is very predictable, she goes to work and goes home, nothing out of the ordinary, she is pretty straightlaced and like things in order, that's it. Her mom and her sister are the opposites, they are wild as heck, love men, love sex and love life. So I wondered (and that it isn't unusual) why is Nadia this way, there are hints given that there was something that happened which caused her to retreat within herself and erect a high wall.
Nathan Moore, former NFL Great, Single Dad to a daughter Mecca (who is deaf) and a son Ian (who has autism), has returned back to school to finish up his degree. Nathan got one of his classes switched and ended up in Dr. Day's psychology, he didn't know what was to be expected but what he didn't realize that the professor would knock him off of his feet. Nathan was a goner but getting through her tough exterior was going to be a challenge but he was definitely up for it.
Nathan and Nadia had no idea that they are about to rock each other's worlds, Nathan was going after Nadia full steam ahead, Nadia was trying to outrun him but what she didn't realize is that she was about to get caught and instead of being the professor she was about to become the student. Nathan was all in with his pursuit of Nadia is she willing to let him teach her and is he is willing to be taught himself by Nadia?
What a fantastic story this was, listen there was so much going on with family and friends that you just can't put this book down. There are a number of surprises in this book that I won't reveal because you are just going to have to read it yourselves, what I will tell you is that you will enjoy it immensely. Another stellar read by author Alexandria House, "BRAVO!"
Teach Me is the first audible original by this author and I had no doubts(snaps fingers) that she was going to BRING IT(Gabriel Unions voice). Nadia is 29 year old African American college professor punishing herself by living a bland, boring and predictable life. She convinced herself that it’s atonement for past mistakes. In her class, she meets Nathan Moore. He is a retired football player, psychology major and a single dad.He is a sexy dreadhead(we love those) and you guessed it, THE BOY’S GOT HIS OWN MONEY(get it?). They embark on a romantic journey but personal issues and life’s hardships could possible drive them apart.
When I started this audiobook, I was prepared for a forbidden love story between the professor and her student; nothing could have prepared for this story. I absolutely LOVED IT. This book was amazing for reason’s beside the steamy sex. I loved the slow attraction between the characters and the realistic reactions they had to situations. Nadia and Nate were two lively characters with relatable yet unusual backstories.
I loved how she weaved in the past characters throughout the story. It was great catching up and the placement was just right. There were some thrilling twists in this story that had me on the edge of my seat begging for more. The best part of this book was the authors ability to weave an amazing love story incorporating current issues and special needs characters in a way that didn’t overwhelm me. I loved this story and I highly recommend that you read it. I mean, why not?
What I enjoyed most about this African American contemporary romance novel: Complex Main Characters / Wonderful Supporting Characters / Page-Turner (absorbing listen) / Romantic / HEA
Narrated by: Jakobi Diem & Adenrele Ojo Length: 9 hrs and 51 mins Format Collected / Read: Original Recording Audiobook, an Audible exclusive Release date: 10-29-19 Language: English Publisher: Audible Original Ratings Story Rating - 5 stars! I was enthralled with this couple's fall into love. How her past and his responsibilities to his two kids with special needs combined made for a very interesting and engaging read. I especially loved his son's obsession with In Living Color and his innocent genuineness. And his daughter was no wilting young flower. I liked how much she admired the professor and shared her love for the Matrix films. I could picture them as a family living through life's highs and lows together forever.
Performances - 5 dynamic duo stars! Jakobi Diem & Adenrele Ojo were fantastic. I loved their acting instincts and look forward to listening to future audiobooks narrated by them.
Overall - 5 stars! I had a perfect reading experience. This one definitely earned a spot on my favorites shelf on GoodReads.
Final Thought: This was my first novel by this author, but hopefully, it won't be my last.
Beautiful... I love this family!!! Uncle Lee Chester had me seriously laughing out loud in my office!! I love that I was not able to predict what was going to happen, not for lack of trying, but in the areas where I thought the worse was going to happen it didn't so that left a bunch of surprises in the places in the story that something did happen. Another great read Ms. House!!! Thank-you
While I am an avid reader of this author's novellas, the novel was also well worth the read as the storyline held my interest. There was a lot of drama with some quite interesting characters. Mild humor kept me giggling. Overall enjoyable read
Another gem from Ms. House. I love it when the McClains make an appearance and how the characters are interconnected. I love me some Unc, he and Lou need their own book!!
I cannot stand the characters in this book, and that’s not even to begin to mention the fact that I’ve been trying to read this book for 6 days now and I still can’t get into into it, I just feel like I’m not progressing with this book at all, so I’ve decided to just dnf it instead 🤦🏽♀️.
I wanted to love this, since it came with a glowing recommendation, but for me, it was just okay. Everything comes together kind of abruptly. Also, I found that bringing some serious and physically harmful violence into a first sexual situation, with a new and unknown partner, and without any previous discussion or consent whatsoever was a really big turn off for me.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD
I want to be clear that I’m not judging the violent sexual relationship. To each their own cup of tea. I’m judging the failure to communicate about that, find out what your partner’s needs, wants, and limits are. But of course, there wasn’t time for that, since they fell abruptly into bed together without really getting to know each other. And then instead of playing it safe, he just does whatever the fuck he wants to her in the moment, without knowing her thoughts on the matter, her past experiences, or caring about her safety and security. To me, that’s not a man, that’s a completely selfish and dangerous jackass, and someone should be throwing down red flags all over the field.
For fuck’s sake. We’ve all been down the 50 Shades road. At least check in and/or pick a safe word or gesture before you try to strangle someone to death, if nothing else. Though quite frankly, that’s dangerous play with someone you don’t know, since you are limiting their ability to even think or talk, and you don’t yet know how to read their comfort level.
I just found the behavior to be sexually irresponsible and a real turn off, and I had trouble moving forward with the story. Nothing was sexy for me after that, because I was just waiting for him to once again degrade or harm her, since there was little discussion on either end. She supposedly likes everything he does, after the fact, and I guess that was supposed to be good enough for me. Maybe that is good enough for some people, but I just wasn’t a willing passenger for that kind of journey.
Also, there are too many side characters who are all underdeveloped. I can’t keep people straight, as they are not standing out as having unique and distinctive personalities and purposes in the story. Most of them are completely irrelevant and forgettable. I hate the info dumps of character descriptions and think that could have been worked in more effectively and at a point in time In which the information sticks, rather than just dumping a list of physical attributes for me to memorize.
The plot is a bit all over the place. I do like the general flow of the dialogue, though there is too much telling and backstory in the dialogue. Still, there’s a nice back and forth flow at times that feels really natural. I appreciate that there are attempts to show character growth, even if it sometimes falls a bit flat. Mostly, the book left me rally disconnected and emotionless, which I think is the most frustrating part. To be honest, I thought for a while that the story was going to recover, but by the last 1/3, I just wanted it to hurry up and end already.
This was decent but very very corny. I will not finish the series.
Nate was a very good man an a great father. I thought it was amazing how he took in his brothers son. He did a fantastic job with the kids.
The female main character was basic. I feel any attachment to her.
All the characters were poo 💩!! Her mother was funny but weird. Her friends were dumb and corny. The meat characters were the children! 🤣🤣
His career criminal brother was a waste of an introduction and the psych ex boyfriend was hilarious and stupid. They just threw him in the book and never even explained where he went at the end.
The Dominate relationship they were supposed to be having was simple. And don’t make sense. If you went a good dominate book Praise by Sara Cate was chefs kiss. Full disclosure I did not like that book either lol but the part of the dominate and submissive roll was very very well written.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a beautiful story about 2 people learning what boundaries are important for their well being, and what boundaries are there for hiding. I loved watching both of them grow and progress forward in life in a positive way. With that said, I feel like once they started being intimate, a lot of the things I was loving about the book went to the side, and I didn't enjoy it quite as much. The sexy times were great, don't get me wrong here. I just think I would have enjoyed more story, less sex. I will continue to pick up more from this author though!
Ms. Alex House has a very specific rhythm to how she writes that I really like. This book informed me that most (if not all) of her books are connected in some way and I just LOVE THAT! Uncle Lee and the McClain family made an appearance in this book that gave me all the feels.
Sometimes I feel like the 🌶️🌶️ is a little extra, over the top, and unnecessary. She writes about it like it's another character and I don't really care for it that much. The story with even half the spice would still be amazing which is why I had to drop it a few stars.
I'm gonna press my way to book 2 in this series, hopefully I won't have to DNF due to unnecessary 🌶️.
This book is weird. Why does Nadia’s mother invite her to an event she’s hosting where her bf will be naked AND make sur they’re positioned so they can see him well?!! A few chapters before, Nadia was talking about he was the closest thing to a step-dad she ever had…. But now she’s admiring his d and talking about it needs its own zip code… Yeahhh not for me.
3.5 stars. I adored Nadia and loved how Nate appreciated her brilliance. Nate’s relationship with his kids was beautiful. Some things that happened in the book were a little too far out for me, but I appreciated that they both dealt with family issues.
You can’t go wrong with an Alexandria House novel. This book was great. It will make you laugh, get mad or maybe even shed a tear. Great love story with a little tragedy ain’t never hurt nobody.
