JACOB - a Denouement in One Act is a tale of redemption, friendship & great, good cheer, travelling over time & space to sew up loose ends & answer questions about Ebenezer Scrooge's erstwhile partner & ghostly visitor, Jacob Marley, serving as both an homage & denouement to Charles Dickens' beloved classic, "A Christmas Carol."

JACOB begins and ends as a first-person account as relayed by the author, who tells about her serendipitous discovery of an antique book she came to own during her year abroad while in college.

JACOB is the story as found in that old book, written as if for the stage by an author known only as “C,” as noted in the book’s dedication.

This is a play wrapped up in a memoir. I found the circumstances surrounding this play—what seemed to be written for a daughter or younger family member about what happened next for poor old Jacob Marley—to be as fascinating as the play portion. The play goes into some interesting ideas about what Marley’s penance was and how he is released from that. Also, his role in the ghostly visits to Scrooge was an interesting take as well. Overall, I enjoyed this continuation of a much-loved (and too-short) story of A Christmas Carol very much!

A lovely, quick read answering the question “what becomes of Jacob Marley?” I enjoyed this Dickensian-inspired book very much. It put me in the Christmas mood. The book was sent to me by the author.

My son asked me what happened to the Marley brothers after their appearance to Scrooge (The Muppets Christmas Carol, hence the Marleys plural). This play provides the answer - an imaginative look at the fate of Jacob Marley. It has a great structure and is faithful to the writing style of Dickens. I really enjoyed the redemptive story and the way it ties together the loose ends of the original. It made me wonder if Dickens left that thread hanging to make us ponder our own fates.

Can't wait for our group discussion! The printed book is a beautiful green with gilt lettering and illustrations!

I really loved the idea behind this book. And it is executed wonderfully. My favourite kind of stories are those of redemption and hope, this one doesn't dissapoint.

The book starts with a woman discovering an old play in a second hand shop. And then goes on to present the play for us to read and hearin lies the story of Jacob. It has such a wonderful Christmassy theatrical feel to it, I would love to see it performed.

I had a wonderful Christmas Eve reading this very Dickensian (yet with a twist) aside to "A Christmas Carol" and truly felt the author's intent to deliver a wholesome and authentic answer to the question "Whatever happened to the ghost of Old Marley?" Highly recommended.
