Rate this book
Based on the novel by Edgar Calabia Samar
Adaptation by Mervin Malonzo

Story-wise, kudos to Mr. Edgar Samar. Ang ganda talaga, tang ina! Hahaha.
BEST BOOK I'VE READ THIS 2020 PERIOD

As posted on my blog,
[Review] Si Janus Silang At Ang Labanang Manananggal-Mambabarang (Graphic Novel) by Edgar Calabia Samar; Mervin Malonzo

When I stumble on reading Si Janus Silang At Ang Tiyanak Ng Tabon and Si Janus Silang At Ang Labanang Manananggal-Mambabarang way back in my college days, I remember how I came to be amazed by the game like that, scared and terrified with the next turn of events, and sad and angry with why’s that even happened. I just can’t fathom those emotions and feelings rushing into one during and after the reading phase. These books show you the realistic way of dealing with things on how you will continue despite everything been done. That moment you stand hopeless without a fight but you’re the last chance of stopping it. That’s Janus. Our protagonist. He will be a part of a perilous quest to find the core key in winning against Tiyanak. Finding his twin, Tala, who is the only way of defeating him.

The combination of a modernized Philippine-based mythology narrative and an artistic way of illustrating into full colored graphics is such an excellent collaboration I must say I ever had. Samar proves his prowess on the storytelling of a detailed novel with a collection of knowledge about myths, legends, and history that once told and happened in the land of Filipinos. He is one of a kind novelist and I really love his works (only Janus Silang series yet 😅). Love and hate to say since I still wonder if he adores hurting his readers that way. Malonzo on adapting Samar’s Janus Silang is quite a perfection that chooses the right style and version for this book. Different treatment than the first book but I like how he deals with his manipulation and creativity. He sure gives additional pain through his genuine and unique works of art. You’ll feel acquainted with how warm and well-suited his craft for this novel. Once you read this book two adaptation, I guarantee you’ll gonna do feel the same thing.

Not to say much as I might spoil you the rest of what really happened but I do hope you read and support on this kind of story not much focus on. You’ll regret you missed having these on your quota since there are full of twists and anticipation you really will be hooked once you begin the journey of reading these fantastic (and dark) books.

Samar+Malonzo= Exceptional

The art in this graphic novel was true and accurate! Chef Kiss. Can't wait to see another release of Janus Silang 3 in the same format.

The artwork is beautiful. I haven't read many graphic novels; the ones I know of are Filipiniana. It's been a while since I read the source material so I can't tell which parts were added here, but the core of the story is well adapted into the medium. I particularly love how young Manong Isyo is here because I've always pictured him and Manong Joey to be older.

I particularly adore the purple starry night sky here, it appears magical for some reason. Question is, will the rest of the JS books be adapted into comics as well, and would Mervin Malonzo do them as well? We can hope.

Miro!!! 😭

Wow! Sobrang ganda!

Salamat kay Sir Egay and Sir Malonzo. Ang lupet talaga.

Maeengganyo kang basahin e. Dahil nabigyan ng muka ang bawat karakter.

Friend, ang sakit pa rin. Miss kita! 😭
