I bought this for myself as a Christmas present because I've really enjoyed Andrews' other books and short stories.

It did not disappoint. I meant to read it in small chunks but ended up staying up late to finish it because I had to know what happens!

Easy reading, characters you can get attached to and plausible, interesting future scenarios.

I very much hope there are more books to come in the series!

Carmen was a scientist doing QA with subjects on a low level with the company that she worked for and had formed a bond with them, especially Prototype Alpha-3. Alphie and the other prototypes were just test subjects made in a lab then transferred to this facility to determine the extent of their enhanced abilities, then they got to leave or be retired. As Carmen began doubting her life decisions between her dedication to work and not her broken family, she began to realize there were more secrets that were being uncovered at work that made her uneasy and question her job more. The bond between Carmen and the prototypes placed them in more scrutiny as the program was under threat of closure and her supervisors were at odds on how to advance with the advancements of the prototypes. This was an interesting and intriguing story with surprising twists as secrets were revealed. Fun read. I would love to read more with these characters.

“Prototype Alpha-3” by Alanah Andrews is an interesting sci-fi/dystopian story, that delves into the meaning of one’s life, freedom, and individuality through the lenses of a non-human character (Alpha-3) whose only purpose is to fulfill her genetic potential as an asset for the AWPA, the advanced weaponised projects agency. As Alpha-3 begins to reflect on the future of those prototypes that does not meet their creator’s standards, she starts to ask herself questions about her own existence and her allegedly not existing humanity.

The story is interesting, easy to read and offers a credible sci-fi premise, that poses some very valuable question about the meaning of agency.

Alpha-3 dreams of getting out of her cell but needs to improve her talent.
Alpha-3 is regularly tested and pushed to increase her control over her talent by Professor Carmen Rhodes who often reads her fairy stories when she does well. She is a prototype owned and created by AWPA with a talent looking like a normal human but has no memories beyond her arrival in Zone One. Most of the guard treat the prototypes with detachment but one enjoys hurting them Then a new Prototype arrives and Delta 21 claims she remembers a river and that her name is Rebecca.

Prototype Alpha-3 is a compelling character-driven story that makes for an exhilarating read. Alphie's journey and the mysteries of AWPA kept me hooked and constantly wanting to know more, I especially enjoyed the glimpses into other prototypes. For anyone who's a fan of genetics and science fiction, that enjoys a good fairy tale and questions about ethics, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Prototype Alpha-3. Alanah Andrews writes YA beautifully and creates wonderfully distinct and powerful characters!

Prototype Alpha-3 is an intense character-driven story that hooked me from the beginning to the end.
Andrews weaves tension and mystery in masterfully amidst a chilling contrast between a modern, dysfunctional family and the prototype's stark reality.

Powerful reading

This was a powerful book everything that you thought got turned on it's head. I took a star off only because of the ending I wanted to see more of it. And I don't think there is another book either but a definite thinking book
