June Collins made international news headlines in 1969 when she became a whistle-blower and testified before a U.S. Senate Committee. She pointed the finger at a group of corrupt American Army sergeants who had made millions in Vietnam by demanding kickbacks from all booking agents and sales people. June, an ex exotic dancer, had provided rock bands to the US military camps during the war. After destroying her business by listening to her conscience, she made a comeback when The Khaki Mafia, (co-authored with Robin Moore, author of The French Connection) was published and became a best seller book.

During her many years living in Asia, June had become appalled by the plight of the abandoned street children. In her home country, Australia, adoption was near impossible. Therefore, she chose to remain in the USA. Eventually she was able to adopt six children, ranging in age from three to thirteen, from India, Korea, Columbia and the USA.

Once the children were grown she again turned to writing and has again written two more books about the Vietnam war. Goodbye Junie Moon is the non-fictionalized story about her encounters with The Khaki Mafia. The sequel, Junie moon Rising, shows her recovery from PTSD after the war ends and she tries to fit back into civilian life.

Following a turbulent life, she now resides in relative tranquility on a mountain top overlooking the ocean in Queensland Australia.

Junie Moon is keeping things real with her newest book Junie Moon Changes Course. Junie chronicles her foray into adoption and foster care as essentially a single mother, as her husband was frequently working out at sea. Her heart is big and she wants to make a difference in the lives of children. Over a period of time, she officially adopts six children from toddlers to teenagers and fosters numerous others. She doesn't sugar coat things. Raising children is difficult, but raising children with trauma is challenging at best. As a mother of two adopted children, I really appreciated her candor. For me, the most inspirational part of the book was at the end, when you see that despite all the heartache and difficulty she went through raising the children, in the end, they turned out okay. Isn't that what every parent wants to hear. That regardless of how things feel right now...in the end, things are truly going to be okay! Thank Junie Moon for sharing your story.

What happened to Junie Moon

In this book Junie Moon finally marries and sets about adopting her children. Doug, her husband, was a caring man and was happy with the first couple kids but didn’t want (due to cost) more children. Not only did June adopt children but also took care of foster kids. This book is about the trials and tribulations of raising children. Luckily there are happy times to counter the bad times. At the end of the book a note is written on each of the children, now adults, and what they have accomplished. If nothing else you can commiserate with this book or be happy at the life you have. I recommend this book.
