We haven't seen the movie yet but this was an interesting little story about a man named Joe who wants to be a jazz musician but falls down a manhole the day he makes the cut and ends up in something resembling the afterlife where he is paired with a young soul to help her find her 'spark'.

This has a very interesting concept but since this is an 'easy reader,' I feel like we didn't get the whole story, especially surrounding the 'new souls' and a few other things I don't want to spoil. We will definitely have to see the film soon now!

Just okay. It is what you'd expect it to be, a simplified retelling of the plot of the movie Soul. Probably best for young kids who enjoyed the movie and want to revisit it again in picture and print, but the story seriously isn't the same without the music. Do yourself a favor and watch the movie first.
