I really enjoyed reading about Amy Kate and her friends in this first book in a new-to-me series. Amy Kate's crazy and compulsive and says what she means although sometimes she regrets it, but you just can't help rooting for her. I liked her budding friendship with Gabe the detective too. Amy Kate did something at one point in the book that most would consider TSTL, but she owned up to it afterward. I have a feeling she won't repeat that mistake, lol. And Amy Kate always gave fair warning that she was trouble just waiting to happen. Actually it was more like trouble seemed to find her. For the most part, she did fine acting as investigator for her sister, their friend's lawyer.
Carter and Flora were two favorite characters. They were Amy K's employees at the bookstore and both a little older since Carter was Gabe's dad. Flora was just a fun character and the town gossip. Julia was the awesome best friend who was an amazing cook. I'll definitely be borrowing the next book in KU to see if maybe Amy Kate's luck isn't just turning around a little bit now! ;)
A good read. Maybe a bit too obvious as one of the clues was as blatant as a siren but a good read regardless. A plot of arson and murder with a side dish of greed and revenge. The characters are playful and bright although I found the main character slightly off. Not sure why. The fire has her tearing through the small town. Is her bookshop safe? She's only just finished the renovations and is needing the cash from sales. However it is telling coffee shop next door that is in flames. Worse a dead body is pulled out of the building. One of the owner's - the one that has been trying to force a sale to a big competitor. With no income she talks her way into being an investigator on the case. Add a divorce, a shard of pottery, affairs, a plant and lots of lies as well as a detective that makes her heart beat faster. Can she work out who, how and why?
One of my favorite parts of a cozy mystery are the memorable supporting cast, and there is no shortage of these in Twisted Plots by Bonita Y. McCoy. Small towns mean the gossip grapevine is well-tended.
When one of Amy Kate Anderson’s business neighbors is found dead in his coffee shop after a fire, she takes on the role of investigator to clear the name of her friend. Sure, she does some fumbling along the way—especially when it comes to the handsome lieutenant in charge of the case.
Amy Kate may be small in stature, but she makes up for it in personality. I couldn’t help but appreciate how she stands by her friends, even when the evidence points toward her.
McCoy does a good job of balancing humor and smalltown life with the mystery (including plenty of suspects) throughout this book.

Ah, it's been a minute since I've sunk into a cozy mystery! I think the last one I got into was on the Hallmark Channel a few years back (the Chronicle Mysteries, maybe?), and it's been even longer since I've read a cozy mystery book.
I think this book (although it deals with a murder) has a good dash of humor in it to keep it from being too heavy. I've laughed on the inside a couple of times at the dialogue, inner and otherwise.
I liked the way each character was "shown" in the book, most of them were very easy for me to imagine. There were a few times I got people mixed up or had to figure out who was who, but I got the hang of it!
I thought I had it figured out who did what but totally missed the real culprit 🙃 Towards the end of the book, I was trying not to freak out at Amy Kate's string of risky choices.
The romance was sweet and I laughed at some of the mishaps along the way. Very clean, which I like!
What a delightful cozy mystery! The author keeps you turning pages. The clues are subtle and sprinkled at well-paced intervals. A cavalcade of likeable characters has a murderer hidden in their midst. You won't figure out who did it until a minute after Amy Kate does. The sprinkle of romance interwoven into the story results in a satisfying ending. I plan to read more by this author.
I really enjoyed this book. It was clean and kept my interest from start to finish. I like my books to have some happiness at the end an epilogue this one was good. Thank You Bonita.
Twisted Plots is a fun cozy mystery with just the right amount of romance on the side. I really liked her main characters and the plot is intriguing also. A good book to unwind with...
