“I began this morning an heir. Now, I am nothing but a slave.”

Generations ago, our country was saved by the Royals. These god-like beings feed on the blood of the commoners to survive; In exchange for our blood, the Royals provide safety and stability for our people.

As the daughter of a Minister, Violet should have been the last person to end up enslaved to the insatiable thirst of the Royals. She must surrender her blood day and night to the elite until her nineteenth birthday, or die at the hands of the monsters who roam the streets after dark.

When Violet is chosen to serve as Crown Prince’s personal Bloodletter, she soon finds herself in the arms of his brother. As their love grows, so does the risk. Will Violet remain in her gilded prison forever, or will the Prince free her from the bounds of mortality? Can she too become a Royal?

Please note that this review was written in the deepest of book slumps. I am tired of not finding books that I love.

And I didn't love this book. I didn't even fully finish it because it hit three strikes and it was out.

Strike 1: Violet aka the FMC is basically forced into her new bloodletter status, having to give blood to Royals (like vampires or something?) against her will. But not really against her will, because she just magically accepts her crappy fate, and she adjusts more and more easily as new shitty situations are thrown her way. Where's the fight?! She first seemed to have a plan to get away and fight, but that was forgotten for some reason. And the strike comes when she doesn't understand her new world and is basically shouted at by her mentor for her ignorance over and over again. And yep, you guessed it, she doesn't fight. She doesn't tell people to fuck off for treating her like shit. She's just so sorry for breathing, basically. Lame and boring.

Strike 2: At one point, it is mentioned that a girl cannot give blood because she's having her "womanly time" or some shit (meaning, she's on her period), and get this.. The reason she cannot donate blood is because periods make women UNCLEAN according to this fucked up world. And while that might be the way this obviously horrible world works.. what a way to enforce that crappy false belief. Many religions around the world already treat women like shit because we menstruate, so if you're going to call it unclean, at least have the FMC fight against that claim or be outraged by it. But nope, remember - she doesn't fight, because she is lame and boring. Grrrrr.

Strike 3: And this might spoil something (not sure because I didn't finish the book), so

Almost nothing happens for about half of the book, and so it all put me to sleep. And the romance felt weird as heck.

Sorry. This wasn't for me.

I received this book from the author on Story Origin in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit I got the book because of the cover. It looked interesting... I honestly didn't even read the summary. Probably a good thing because I might have overlooked it and passed it by. I should have realized that a book called "The Bloodletters" would have been about vampires, but I definitely get that impression the first time I saw the title.

That being said, I actually enjoyed the book. It's a new and different concept. In this world, there are the Royals and the Commoners. The Royals are the group of people who live off the blood of the Commoners. They Royals saved the Commoners and allowed the human race to thrive, but in exchange, they required blood to stay young and healthy. Within the Commoners, there is a group of individuals known as the Bloodletters. These individuals willingly, or in some cases as a result of dire circumstances, allow the Royals to have limited access to their blood. There are rules that must be followed to ensure everyone's safety - the Royals do not want to get sick due to poor hygiene among the Bloodletters.

Violet is a Commoner, but a wealthy, upper-class Commoner. She grew up in a world where she was heir to become a Minister until the day after her mother's death. Her father sold her into the life of a Bloodletter. In her new home, Violet learns how to survive her new life and eventually gets obtained by the Crowned Prince of the Royals. It's here Violet falls in love and realizes that she wants more out of life than just being a Bloodletter... she wants to become a Royal, no matter the cost.

Samantha Bell weaves a wonderful web of deceit, love, and fantasy in her book "The Bloodletters". It ends with a cliffhanger, and I for one, am actually interested in reading more. I can honestly say it's been a long time since I found a vampire series that I have actually been interested in reading more than one book.

Looking forward to the next instalment

The story follows Violet, the privileged daughter of a minister, who is sold by her father just days after her mother’s death.

The Royals are the elite ruling class, they are blessed with long life and strength, but they feed on the blood of the commoners. Violet is taken to a blood house, where she must remain until her 19th birthday providing blood for her clients. The first two thirds of the book tells Violet’s story and how she navigates and survives her new life.

Everything changes again for Violet when she is chosen to become the personal bloodletter for the crown prince, once again taken away from her home and friends. While the crown prince couldn’t be less interested in her, she begins a forbidden relationship with his younger brother. The book continues with Violet navigating this new relationship with its obvious imbalance of power and which is a genuine risk to her life should the pair be discovered.

I enjoyed this audiobook, although I was surprised how late into the book the pair meet, there is a lot of story before that point. The main character goes on quite a journey from the entitled heiress to a life of servitude and doesn’t always make the best choices along the way. She is flawed and not always likeable but you find yourself rooting for her and her relationship.

I am looking forward to the next instalment as I am keen to see what the future holds for Violet.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review

If You Love Insta-Love, You'll Love This!!!

This books is a pretty good take on vampires! The idea of Bloodletting and Royals were very intriguing to me. It wasn't something I'd ever read before. The author sets up an interesting world, blending modern ideas with more old era ideas.
While the books did a great job setting up the scene and making sure the reader understood the world and Violet's actions, some things jurt happened too out-of-the-blue for me. Violet quickly getting taken out of her father's home--barely even setting up how much she loved her mother and didn't really get her father. Her and Isaac's love was also a little too "love at first bite" for me. It was very instant love, which some people like. Their relationship escalated so quickly considering how much time was put into getting Violet to be selected for the Collection.
So, this story is a great YA read, however, some of the details could have felt a little more realistic.

This was an enjoyable read and an intriguing new take on vampires. (Though vampires aren't distinctly mentioned, the Royals drink blood, live longer lives, and have enhanced senses and strength.

Set in what seems to be a Renaissance-style world, we have Royals who drink blood to survive and those who serve them as spigots with arms - bloodletters. (It may also be a postcurrent world since a rather famous poem is referenced and referred to as classic literature. It's a true puzzle and one I want to explore more.)

But what happens when one is attracted to the other?

The worldbuilding was enjoyable and the characters distinct from each other. I enjoyed reading this book and hope to soon read more in the series.

This book is an absolute gem! Totally unique storyline that had me flipping pages (or the kindle equivalent!) over and over and kept me awake way later than I should have been!
I'm in awe of Sam's thought process!
Are the royal vampires or not? I'm not sure tbh, the writing makes it sound like they are in some way without ever mentioning the word vampire!
Unique (I know I already mentioned that but worth mentioning again!) Storyline, wonderfully written characters and world building! All in all a brilliant start to what promises to be a fabulous series!

Itching to know what Violet is going to do next! 😁

This is a wonderful and unique vampire tale! Royals drink the blood they take from commoners - slaves called Bloodletters. The story had me hooked right away and didn’t let go. Bloodletters is very well written and I love the world it is set in. Violet is the daughter of a Minister so she never expected to become a Bloodletter. Her life is changed in an instant and she must adjust to her new life. Add a forbidden love in the mix and you know trouble is coming... I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves vampire romances!

I received an ARC from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The plot to Threat is intense and kept me on the edge of my seat. While this is a reverse harem tale and there is a romantic element to this story, there is also suspense and once again there were things that I couldn't have guessed. The surprises/ shocks kept coming. Great characters, great plot and brilliant narration, I loved every minute. The narrator of the audio book does a great job of capturing the character and silliness of the protagonist, and keeps the book moving along nicely.

Well what can i say. I was loving this until the romance part.....talk about instant love. Where was the wooing? I loved the story line and the world. I can't believe that no one knows about the Royals until they are brought into that world. It's an interesting world. I would be interesting to read the next one to see what happens now. I also can't believe she killed her and got away with it. I'm hoping that comes back to haunt her as there was no reason for it really she didn't even try a different route.

The Bloodletters by Samantha Bell is an upper YA dark romantic fantasy that I listened to on audio narrated by Hetty Elliott.

This is the first book of Samantha’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. I absolutely loved this twist on dystopian vampires. I cannot wait for the second book in the trilogy The Blood Crown to be released.

Hetty did an amazing job on the narration! She really knows how to bring a story to life.

It was amazing until the kiss

I fell in love with this book, until the romance aspect began. It was so cheesy, so unrealistic, it was hard to follow without rolling my eyes. The part towards the ending with Greta also didn't make sense, it didn't line up with Violet's personality at all. I ended up stopping not long after that. It's almost as if someone else wrote the last 25% of the book.

Hmmmm, this is a different take on vampires. I wasn’t sure about this book but I received an ARC and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed Violet’s journey into blood letting and finished the book within a day. Easy read, cute characters, suspense, romance, and mystery. Book two isn’t until next summer but I’m excited to read the next one.

This story projects a different take on vampires and the way they feed. Violet is an interesting heroine. She and her Prince Isaac made an intriguing couple of lovers. Vampire romances are not really my forte but I was entertained by this one.

Almost

I gave this book three stars because of the tremendous amount of errors.
The book was detailed, the characters well written.
I am so angry at the amount of errors, I feel disrespected that the author dare ask that I take the time to read his other works, when he won't even take the time to use spell check.

It was a unique world created. The pace and writing style were very enjoyable. Some of the character relationships were a bit less developed. I’ll definitely read the next in the series when published.

I really enjoyed this book, it gripped me from the get go, I had to force myself to stop reading so I could sleep when I first started it.
A really different take on vampires and their need for blood.
I can’t wait to see how Violet gets her revenge, and how things turn out for her and Isaac.

I enjoyed Bell’s take on vampire tales and the “classy” way these vampires consume blood. The main character goes through quite an interesting journey that was much more complex and drastic than I expected it to be.

I received this audio book in exchange for my unbiased review.
