Collecting Marvel Adventures Iron Man (2007) #1, 7; IRON MAN (1968) #234; IRON MAN (1998) #1.
Iron Man is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel-Verse - and these are some of his most action-packed adventures! When the genius Tony Stark is held captive and forced to make weapons, his best chance of escape lies in building the greatest weapon of all - the very fi rst version of the Iron Man armor! Then, Shellhead meets Webhead as Iron Man and Spider-Man team up to take down the deadly Radioactive Man! And when Tony Stark makes a dramatic public return to start the next chapter of his business life, a newly-souped up Iron Man finds himself targeted for death! Finally, does Iron Man stand a ghost of a chance battling the Marvel-Verse's most fearsome armored foe - the dastardly Doctor Doom?!

Van Lente also specializes in entertaining readers with offbeat histories with the help of his incredibly talented artists. He has written the multiple-award winning Action Philosophers!, The Comic Book History of Comics, Action Presidents! "First, you're a bunch of jumped-up punks with hi-tech ordnance you got out of a Crackerjack box somewhere. Second, I'm Iron Man. Third, . . . well, I guess those two cover it pretty well." -- Tony 'Iron Man' Stark, giving both the verbal and mechanical smackdown to a squad of terrorists
The Iron Man edition of Marvel Verse will likely be the 'swan song' of this newer series for me, as this was a serviceable selection of stories (though only four are included, compared to the six or seven often presented in those other books featuring other 'Marvel'-ous characters) but not much more. It was complete with an updated / 21st century version of his origin tale . . . which is then repeated within another plot just two stories later.(?) A team-up adventure with the always-welcome guest star Spider-Man from a summer 1988 issue was sort of fun . . . if a modern-day reader can get past Stark's atrociously permed hairdo (paging Mike Brady!) or, even worse, his "fashion police! you're under arrest!"-worthy fluorescent pink bath robe and slipper set attire in several scenes. Still, the final two sections - one featuring a nice boatload of cameo appearances, and a closer with the wicked Dr. Doom as antagonist - helped to redeem the sometimes-shaky entertainment value.
This was much fun to read! I’ve missed Tony Stark. I heard all of it in Robert Downey Jr voice. The only thing that was weird is in one of the sections Tony is given blue hair! But other than that this was sublime and I loved all the artwork- and the women weren’t drawn too sexy, which was great improvement! Such a fun adventure!!
Solid Marvel-Verse collection, including 4 issues:
- an out-of-continuity origin story for Iron Man (pretty decent) - an Iron Man/Spider-Man team-up from the late 80s which was quite good - a #1 from Busiek's relaunch during Heroes Return/Reborn (sorry, I always get the names mixed up); this was good, I'll try to pick up more of this run if I can - another Marvel Adventures issue, involving a scuffle with Doom (pretty fun)
After reading and watching Ant-Man and The Wasp and Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, I got Marvel high and wanted to read more of the Marvel-verse. Ok, so Marvel-Verse is about collected stories about each hero, heroes and even villains.
Another really solid collection. I’ve been enjoying these Marvel-Verse snapshots of fan favorite characters. These were particularly enjoyable because Tony Stark was actually likable. I’ve read many comics where he isn’t, so this was quite refreshing and fun.
