FrankenDom #2

FrankenDom's Monster

Rate this book
I’d rather die than live as your monster.

That’s what I told my brother Julian, but he ignored my wishes and performed an experimental transplant. Now the real Jordan Kilmartin is dead, leaving me in his place.

I spend my days hiding in a castle, keeping Julian’s research on a tight leash and searching for clues about my mysterious donor. I’ll never lay hands on another human being until I know I won’t descend into his madness.

Breanna McBride turns that plan on its head when she spies on me in my bath. When I lock her in my dungeon, the sexual energy between us is explosive—and potentially deadly. The only way to ensure we both make it out alive is to negotiate a BDSM scene and call in Hans Hauptman to watch over us as we play—and even that’s a risk, because he’s brutally sexy and determined to bring me back to life, whether I like it or not.

But there are darker forces at work in this cursed castle, and no matter how vigilant we are, someone will wind up dead.

I just hope it’s not one of us.

Reader Advisory: Not for the vanilla at heart! Contains a man on the edge, a nurse on a mission and a gleeful sadist with boundary issues, all of whom practice Risk-Aware Consensual Kink. Their BDSM scenes include breath play, caging, predicament bondage, ménage, m/m sexual encounters, gymnastic positions and cruelty to induce emotional catharsis. Also contains potentially triggering violence. Prepare to bite your nails, wipe your eyes and change your underwear at least once.

There are few authors who are able to write such compelling and authentic BDSM menages, who can add elements of horror and science fiction with such ease that it feels realistic, and who can make me root for such an unlikely hero. I love her kinky aliens, I love her dirty farmers and I love her original take on Frankenstein's Monster. I would definitely recommend this read.

Mixed feelings

I have some very mixed feelings about this book. First off, after reading the first Frankendom book, I had some expectations. Not of an actual Frankenstein monster, but what the title implies - a hard core Dom of thr sado/masochistic variety. The first half of the book was rather BDSM lite, and considering expectations bordered on sweet. Okay, so this is going to be a sweet, healing romance. I adjusted.

Just as I am settling into a decent romance where we have finally found the real kinkster, arrests happen. There are missing people, murder, betrayal, and OMG. Where did my sweet romance go? Talk about a surprising left turn. It was almost jarring. There was some indications of the direction, but it was done so subtly and slowly I almost abandoned the book as boring. Let me put it this way. It took me four times as long to read the first half of the story as it the second half where it got interesting.

Even then, I don't know. The mystery was solved somewhat satisfactorily. The monster questions? Highly metaphoric and esoteric. Not that that's bad, but in this case, more than I was expecting or wanted in my entertainment reading for today. Hence, my mixed feelings.

Very likely, another day I would love this story. Today, not so much. Today, it seems expectations are of importance to me and they were not met here. Otherwise, a decent, well written story.
