I really enjoyed this book. There were many things I’ve never done or will do. But, I had done many of the things listed including Join the Wrigley Field Bleacher Bums for 1 day & root for the Cubs! I also really liked the quotes from famous people throughout the book.
This was a book that my sister recommended to me some years ago and one that has gotten me started on making a bucketlist using bucketlist.org. The unfortunate part of it is that the book itself didn't really interest me since a lot of what they have mentioned is stuff that I am truly not interested in nor would even want to find a way of doing.
The one thing that I will give for book itself is the fact that there are some wonderful quotes. If they would just take the quotes out of the book and make them into their own booklet then add that along with this book I would truly think it would possibly be worth it since I would keep the booklet while getting rid of the book. The other thing is that if you are interested in keeping the list going there are pages that are included that will allow you to add more items or you can check those that may have been included in the pages.
As for the suggestions what turned me off. Most of it was based upon if you have a bunch of money that you could just throw away without a thought or being focused on the popular side of society or even what may be considered impossible. The latter were actually intriguing for me in the end since I keep thinking of smart-aleck answers to do for those such as sleeping with Brad Pitt or Jennifer - cut out a picture of them, put them to bed and voila you have done it since there are no guidelines stating how to do it.
Another thing is that the second time I was going through the book I did notice that a few of them started actually repeating themselves. Yep it is hard to write down 2001 things without repeating yourself unless you are really organized.
All in all I can see where the book would get one started who may be interested or just wanting to compare their own life with what is suggested. In the end though I would tell the reader to add what attracts them instead, make their own list and leave the pre-made lists behind. And if you are really interested in compiling a list there are wonderful sites such as the one mentioned above that are interactive and have many interesting ideas that weren't even mentioned in this book.
this book, probably as for many others has become the handbook for my life. :] although...i was disappointed to see that many of these things were HIGHLY unlikely and out of my control such as "wake up next to Brad Pitt" or whatever. Boo. lol
I got this book about 20 years ago, and pull it out every once in a while to see what I've checked off unintentionally, what I could check ✅ off intentionally, and what is impossible (like engaging in some way with a dead celebrity). This is a review for the the second publishing (2004) so if there's an updated version, this doesn't capture those updates
What I like: a huge variety of "things" to do. Some you can do without leaving your seat. There is a section in the back to add your own list items and check them off. It's nice to add things and then go back (20 years later- from a college student to a 40 year old) and see how your goals and life ambitions have changed (or not) though the years. But you need to keep the book for that.
What I don't: I wouldn't have noticed when I purchased it (and society has changed in tone to support people with privilege like I have to learn more about marginalized folk and their preferences) but one item uses a racial slur (for Rroma), at least one item encourages practicing closed spiritual/religious practices, and one item encourages being truly "color blind." Many of the items are substantially similar, theoretical/intangible (e.g. based on idioms rather than concrete "things" one can "do"), or simply impossible (the author acknowledges that they're 'nearly' impossible- like having a meal, singing a song, marrying or sleeping with a celebrity, many of whom have died in the last 20 years).
The book would be more useful if it was full of actionable items, but it's still okay, and given its date of publishing, the language and (racial) concepts were typical (although I can't say acceptable) for the time. It would be best used as a jumping off point for your own list. I've made many edits to my book, which might or might not be considered "cheating" but it's my life list.
I got this from one of my classmates and close friends in high school an eternity ago so it brings back warm memories... Like others have pointed out, some things are impossible like having lunch with Jenny Craig or even possibly jamming with the rest of the Beatles but as you live, you realize a lot of the amazing things you have done and you continue to appreciate the art of life.
Some of the things in this book were cool. I’ve done some and some I will never do or get to do. Some of them I think were to be funny but interesting to think someone has actually been able to do them, like waking up next to Brad Pitt for example… I thought that was funny. Fun book.
This is a fun book to read but a lot of the things are highly unlikely to ever happen or impossible. It’s a cute book if you’re not serious about it. It was fun to check off the things I’ve done so far. Has some good ideas too.
A super quick read. Took me about an hour to complete the book and check off things I've done so far. Unfortunately, many of the items listed are things I will never be able to check off, but maybe someone out there can. I know I will never get to care for Michael Jackson's pet monkey or play music with the Beatles or do anything with JFK Jr, because they have passed on. So guess this little book has become a little outdated already. Or how about waking up next to Brad Pitt. Sounds great but how far out there is that? What a dream! Its sure not a likely goal to accomplish. Many of the ideas are too far fetched for everyone to accomplish but they are at least fun to think about doing. I have to remember, this is not my bucket list, but it is a good starting point for developing my own. I too was a little disappointed in this book. There are sooo many things to do that are not mentioned. As it goes, "so many things, so little time". Its cool however, to look at all the checked items and see just how much I have accomplished, all I have yet to do, and all I have to be thankful for. Time is wasting. I apparenty have a lot more living to do and goals to check off, so better get started on my own list!
A silly, light-hearted book that is a list of 2001 things to do before you die. (I didn't count, though. It could be way more or less.) I don't think I'm going to do all those things before I die, though. Really, I think they fall into a few categories: 1) things I really do want to do before I die, 2) things I wouldn't mind doing before I die, 3) things I've already done before reading this book, 4) things I don't want to do, and 5) things I probably won't ever do.
There's some cross over with that last category and the others, especially things like "Travel at Warp speed". It sounds kinda neat, and if I thought it was possible/feasible/practical, it would fall into category 2. Anyway, a quick fun little read.
My friends and I make lists of goals and work to accomplish them, so I am always looking for ideas and inspiration for the list. I thought this might have something useful to say, but I didn't find a lot of ideas I would try that I hadn't already tried. A lot of the goals on this list are not realistic -- time travel, space travel, discovering things, waking up next to a famous movie star. But the scariest one was on the first page, in the first 10 goals: "become an eccentric billionaire and run for president." So much for the concept of reading to escape the craziness of real life -- someone living out that goal is responsible for a lot of the current craziness.
This is an easy book to read...and apply to your life. I received it for Christmas 2009. I took several days reading through and ticking off things I've already done. Then I listed in the back of the book about 50 more I'd like to do . ( I even added some of my own ideas....ahhhhh)Some on my to do list are easy , silly or just insteresting to me. Some ideas in the book are outrageous and ofcourse most people will never do. Still a fun book and motivating. Great timing as I choose not make resolutions for the coming year...just a to do list.
I received this book as a gift and I just love it. I went through and checked off everything I have ever done and am adding a few of my own items to the list. This book spurred my friend and I to join an activity aiming to be in the Guiness Book of World records, but our crowd failed by about 9891 people. But, hey, at least we attempted to do it. This book is a good reminder to embrace adventure, large and small.
I got this book as a graduation present, and my Type-A self goes through it every couple months and checks off things I have done. Some of the things are ridiculous, like having lunch with the President or having a celebrity buy you a drink, and some of them are gender-specific, like growing a mustache. But I like the general premise, and I enjoy getting new ideas for things to do when I'm bored or on vacation.
I'd rate it higher if it weren't just a list with some quotes thrown in, but its definitely a great buy for anyone. A great list of things you may never have thought of. There are some things however they could have done better as they are a little unrealistic, but for the most part its a lot of fun to go through it and check things off and get ideas for new things to check off.
I know that I've been a busy body with the way that I've lead my life, but I was actually pretty disappointed that this book contained about 75% of things that I've already done in my life. Mind you, I've already lived in a yurt, run for public office, done an open mike night, and eaten alligator.
Whimsical. My wife bought this for me a few years back to help us make our own list. There are some good ideas, some really bad ideas, and some that are physically impossible (Travel at warp speed. Really?). It makes me want to write a better, more realistic list of things to do before you die.
You won't be able or interested 'to do' everything listed in the book. Some things aren't really achievable. However, you'll be inspired to make your own bucket list with the confidence of knowing NOTHING can be too outrageous or too little to achieve.

I would have rated this higher if a lot of the ideas were actually doable. But once or twice a year I come back to this book and check off the things I've done. I've had a lot of fun with it!
This book is awesome! Now I know I will never get bored, just flip through the pages and find something to do! It has helped me come up with my bucket list
fun and quick read. kept track of how many things I've already done. apparently I have a lot more living to do. this lost also gives you some ideas for future goals.
I'm slowly working through accomplishing everything on this list. I've changed a few, because frankly I don't ever want to wake up next to Brad Pitt. :)
