If you like Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, you are certain to enjoy this collection of novellas by Jude Hardin. The premise is that in a future United States that has very little difference than the current one, someone starts trying to kill a man named Rock Wahlman. The reason, it turns out, is that Rock is the result of a cloning experiment that the government is now trying to cover up. Unfortunately for the government, the man they chose to clone was Jack Reacher and Rock is every bit as hard to kill as the original man he was based upon.

This series is a very quick read, conveniently broken up into small novella-sized books that keep the action flowing. There were many endings that pleasantly surprised me and had me jumping to the next book. All in all, this collection is a worthy tribute to Lee Child and his most famous character, Jack Reacher.

Nice Action Story

I enjoyed the book; but there were a few things making it hard to overlook. For instance the coincidence that put Rock and his brother on the same road, at the same time of day was pretty hard to swallow. The police using a bounty hunter on an open warrant. And for the book to be set in 80+ years of our future, there’s nothing really futuristic about it, but the next series is starting out to be promising. The story is good, the character developments are fair, and the scene settings are okay. I might consider reading more of the next series.

Providing one doesn't look too deeply into the logistics this book - or series - was quite enjoyable. It held my attention, and the basic plot was imaginative. Although set in the future, there seemed to be a strange mix of everyday situations that almost made one feel it was set a couple of decades or so in the past. The use of pay phones is just one example, although there was an attempt to justify their revival. I can't believe that any internal combustion engine vehicles - and refuelling stations for them - would still be in existence in the late 21st century. With regard to the action there seems to be quite a lot of repetitive incidents - two or three beefy bullies being taken down by the hero happens frequently.
I'm not quite sure why it's divided into 9 separate books. All the action up until Wahlberg, the Jack Reacher clone, finally sees the threat of his assassination removed could be contained in one book. Book 8 seems a stand alone short adventure with little relevance to its predecessors, while book 9 would be more at home at the start of the next series of books involving time travel . I found book 9 was moving into the different genre of science fiction.

Wow!

I have read all 24 original (timeline) novels of Jack Reacher, but this new series of 9 books about a future-based Jack Reacher clone named Rock Wahlgren was the best! Science-fiction combined with thrilling action featuring our guy, Rock. These nine books start with an introduction of the “Jack Reacher” of the future and then fast-speeds to a concluding book where the various villains have been thwarted, except now Rock needs to time travel (really!) to prevent more catastrophes.

I am giving it a 3 because I am not going to finish even the first book but it is just not the type of book I find interesting. If you like this type of book you will probably like it. It begins with the MC nearly being run down by a truck and then risking his life to save the driver and then it gets a bit strange. From there on it is continuous death and mayhem and for some people that might be interesting but as I said it just is not what I want to read. If that sounds good to you, go for it.

Outstanding!

I wasn't really expecting much. I thought the Reacher novels were a really high standard. And spin-offs / sequels usually don't live up to the originals. But this was extremely good. Very creative, well-written, and of course the lead character seemed extremely familiar. If you are a fan of the Jack Reacher novels I expect you will like this series. There's another one also. You Don't Know Jack. Which I give high points also for their title. It is also very well done. Jack Reacher seems to bring out the best in authors.:-)

These books written in the staccato style of Lee Child they held my interest. Imagine Reacher in the future. Imagine that many of the traits of Jack Reacher are incorporated into the Reacher of the future. While it appears that many technological advances have been made, human nature hasn't. Even some of the world of today exists in the future as well.
I found the books entertaining and captivating. I recommend them.

Imagine a clone of Jack Reacher who thinks and acts like Reacher, 100 years in the future, being hunted by the military who intend to kill him and you have the basis for this series of books. It was free so I gave it a chance as I like the Reacher stories. A quick, enjoyable read. This set of 9 books has a continuing thread through them and it will go on into subsequent books. Note the author is not the Reacher author, but uses a very similar style.

The last book of this series is best

I bought these books because I’m a huge fan of Jack Reacher. But Jack is only mentioned in these books in the past tense. So I read through them all anyway, and the stories are fairly good. But when I got to book 9, things changed. The writer involved Rock Wahlman in time travel, which is also one of my favorite subjects. Can’t wait to read the next one!

An enjoyable easy read

I enjoyed these pacy and easy to read short books. There was constant action and decent story line that kept me reading and wanting to know how the main character would get out of the situations he found himself in. Unfortunately I had to suspend common sense at times when he proved so superior to his adversaries. Also I found the writing to be a little sparse and simplistic, even unemotional at times.

I would have given 3.5 stars if I could.

It was great until the last two books

I gave it a 3 because i liked the first part. The rest of the series was sheer nonsense especially for someone who cannot stand time travel nonsense, or serial killer fiction. It was great to see the descendant of Jack Reacher, but perhaps Reacher was too awesome to end up a time travellor.

A different take , on Jack Reacher.

This is Lee Child approved. This takes place in the future. Jack had his blood taken, with out his knowledge. There were clones, made from it. Two men, bore by surrogacy. Grew up in two different orphanages. As they grew up, the adventures start. Great series.

Starts strong

Good premise of Reacher Clones surfacing years later. Army General want to eliminate so he and others can make money with a new clone program.
Then after many books this is resolved, Reacher clone life becomes normal. Then the Author revealed a Government clone exist.....which is in conflict with original concept. Confusing!

Reminiscent of Jack Reacher novels but set 70-80 years in the future. Interesting that so many things in the US remained the same (people are slow to change, of course). Like the entire series right up until the very end which was kind of thrust upon us and a little bit odd with nowhere to go. I felt the readers are just sort of dumped at the end.

A Reacher in the future. I though buying the none books in one volume seemed like a good idea. having just finished Sentinal, I was looking for something to read. Reacher stuff but once the time travel started to come along I had to stop and think if I would buy any further books. Still a maybe.

I thought Book 9 was kinda rushed.

Interesting

1 -9? I don't think so. These read like chapters in one book. Short sharp, no real depth. As one book, it does OK.
The characters are glossed over. I would label this collection as "lightweight" when it could have been much more. The concept is hood

Excellent Continuation of Jack Reacher

A fun, terrifying and satisfying twist on the future of Jack Reacher. An amazing concept brought to full on action, suspense and many laughs as bad guy after bad guy are eliminated in entertaining and ironic ways. Well worth reading.

Enjoyable read

Hardin gives the reader look into the future of the cloning of Jack Reacher, Rock Waltham, and several people are trying to kill him. These stories explain what happens next in this mystery series. Expect the unexpected.

Lee Child, move over

Get ready for non-stop adventure, action and mayhem. Thought provoking. Much of this relates to the events of today....and tomorrow. You won't want to put it down. Enjoy.

Clever takeoff on Jack Reacher until you get to the time travel then it’s a little far fetched. This is like a one time set of stories which were fun and crazy. Rock is not the same as Jack except for getting into trouble no matter where he goes. Doesn’t seem like much has changed in 50 plus years

Great first plot. Then it goes down hill.

Cloning. Can be done and the plot is very good. But then, the hero becomes a combination of Bond, Superman, Bat man and a company of special forces rolled into one man. The last plot is simply sci-fi and unbelievable.

on a par with the original Reacher stories

I really enjoyed these books, written in a similar style to Lee Child's Reacher stories.

Too many holes, too many coincidences

Plot could have been so much more but story was not developed enough. Felt like lack of research replaced by mundane dialogue and details about Rock getting from one place to another.

Reads like "a Reacher book!"

90+% like a Reacher novel. This character seems more vulnerable, more the victim of circumstance, less in control than Jack Reacher, but I came to appreciate the differences. Smooth read!

Clone story

This is the basic story of a person who didn’t know he was an illegal clone while disguising the story with some detective work and some ex servicemen. Not great literature but fun to read.

Great story, to a point

I was enthralled with these books...right up until book 8. I thought it was intriguing and it kept getting better and better but then book 8 and 9 were just took over the top. I don't have any desire to read further books.
