Going undercover can be a life or death situation. Their relationship was supposed to be a secret, but true love can't be hidden.
Drew Ashby is a detective dedicated to bringing down the Marconi crime family. His investigation leads him to a blond hunk with a mysterious air. It also leads him to a killer whose victims look an awful lot like him.
Rafe Tucker spends his days acting out life as a mafia foot soldier, but he’s no criminal. He’s an undercover agent and a certain hot detective is complicating his investigation. They agree to team up, but their chemistry cannot be denied.
They’d love to move in together with Drew’s dog, Archie, and live a happy life. Unfortunately, two rival mob families and a killer obsessed with Drew have other ideas. Can justice prevail, and will love win in the end?
Please Note: This book contains adult language & steamy adult activities, it is intended for 18+ Adults Only. Novel, approx. 62,000 words in length. HEA (happy ever after ending). Does not end with a "cliffhanger." Themes include: FBI, police, mafia, undercover, mystery, thriller
I really liked this one. It was a mob family/undercover agents trope that I like, there was plenty of action, subterfuge, suspense, murder and humor to keep me interested and on edge of the seat. The book was light in terms of mafia and the rules were slightly bent on how things might be in the situation like this but this is fiction, and in this instant, I liked what I was reading. Same goes for some police proceedings that happened in the book - I didn't begrudge author his writing style and narrative, I liked it, so everything is good. What I didn't like was the "perfection" of MCs, especially Rafe. The Michelangelo type attributes and how they were described in the book - it made more difficult for me to relate to him. I like flawed characters not only in terms of emotions but looks as well.
The book has two POVs, and I genuinely loved the world this author created. And the addition of the serial killer is a great touch even though it's evident very quickly who it is, it was still interesting to know how Mr Hudson would spin this. There are many lovable secondary characters, plenty of mobsters to keep track of and one excitable puppy Archie who make this book a wonderful read!
Rafe and Drew make a lovely couple - a seasoned undercover FBI agent and a detective with a somewhat naive view of the world and inability to lie to save his life. But somehow they manage to bring one of the biggest crime families to the ground. Their quest is at times dangerous, funny and steamy but they manage to fall in love, exorcise "demons" and put away criminals for good while creating a family and making new friends. A wonderful book! I highly recommend it! I will definitely read more by this author!
*** Thrills, chills, action, hot sex, bad guys, rescue and justice; we get it all. Andrew/Drew ia a detective tracking down the trail of shipments by crime families. Infiltrating the "family" was nearly impossible, until he learns there is someone already in place.
Rafe, a blonde, muscled security expert for Stefano, is FBI.
As part of Drew's plan he gets assigned to the warehouse crew. Drew's also being stalked by his ex, and a serial killer is on the move, so there are several things happening.
In between this time, Rafe ans Drew are beginning flaming hot sexy times. Both hunks take care of each other's needs and it comes with emotions neither man has felt before.
The action increases and we are surprised at the outcomes, plus the culmination of the big ending.
Max Hudson gives us a well written crime drama with a side of tough guys romance. ENJOY !
I loved this book; I know I always say that, but it’s true. It has all the components for a dangerous undercover mission with FBI agent Rafe Tucker (real name Alex) and Detective Drew Ashby (AKA Andrew Ashby). Not only is Rafe and the local police trying to bring down the Marconi family, but there’s also a serial killer; a killer who targets young blond men who look like Drew/Andrew.
From the start when Drew interviews with Stefano, Rafe knows Drew is lying and in the beginning lets it slid. Then when they stop at Stefano’s uncle restaurant to meet with his college lover, Rafe lets Drew know he knows. One problem, Rafe couldn’t stop himself from his attraction to the gorgeous detective. Rafe has never had a problem in the past with attraction to the prostitute boys he hired, but not with Drew.
There was something about Drew that made Rafe drop his guard. Rafe doesn’t say anything to the Marconi family because he’s undercover too and couldn’t afford six years of hard work bringing the family down. Plus Drew and Rafe become lovers right off the bat and then boyfriends.
In the book there are many players and I could easily follow each character and whose family they represented, even the ones that were working for more than the Marconi. Most Mafia does have more than one family involved, and don’t forget the undercover work involved and the two men that became a couple. Drew and Rafe were a dream couple and the romance and sex was incredible. There’s a nice balance between real actions outside of the bedroom.
Because there are so many different facets of criminal behavior I found the book nearly impossible to put down. There’s too much to put into a review, but take my word for it, this book was worth my time reading it and kept me engaged and was difficult to put down. I would highly recommend the book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced read copy of this book.
What would you do to bring down a crime family? Drew Ashby is a member of the organized crime unit. Their goal is to bring down the Marconi crime family. After days of watching a warehouse reputed to carry drugs, Drew is tagged while doing surveillance at the warehouse. However, he is given a gift when he meets Stefano Marconi and his bodyguard, Rafe Tucker, at a restaurant. Stefano offers him a chance to apply for a job with Marconi. Rafe doesn’t want Marconi to hire him because he doesn‘t believe that Drew is who he says he is. Drew has to go deep undercover to apply for this job but Drew feels that this is his best chance to infiltrate the organization.
Add to the stress of going undercover, Drew has to deal with his old boyfriend, Peter. Drew was deeply in love with Peter and was devastated when he found out that Peter was cheating on him. Drew broke it off and now Peter is stalking him. Added to this is a string of male prostitute murders…and a lot of the prostitutes look like Drew.
Drew discovers that Rafe is working for the FBI and gets drawn in to work with the FBI. Will they finally get Marconi? Who murders male prostitutes and leaves them on the beach? Why do they look like Drew?
This book plays out like an really good crime mystery. There is plenty of romance between Drew and Rafe. There is a creepy bad guy and enough twists and turns to keep you reading the book non-stop.
Drew is a marvelous character. His search for the truth puts him in a dangerous position. After having been hurt by Peter, Drew isn’t looking for another relationship. Rafe is a bodyguard. He has made his life very closed and safe, preferring to have sex with paid strangers than taking the risk of getting involved with someone. Both characters have to learn to trust.
There are great secondary characters - Pete, Drew’s ex who can’t let Drew go. Stefano Marconi screams bad boy gangster.
I loved this book and finished it in one night.
I was given a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Max Hudson’s newest book is again, an articulate but complex story of Italio/American criminal gangs, at times operating separately, and at unexpected times becoming dangerous arch rivals. At the epicentre is a dedicated small group of police belonging to the elite “Organised Crime Unit” that’s involved in the dangerous work of unraveling these mobs and their intricate, deceptive plans.
Amidst the intrigue, there’s good mateship, even though some of these so-called pairings between ‘crim’s and cops’ are manufactured and cleverly counterfeited, adding further to the “intrigues”!
Relationships between the O.C.U. police officers are well balanced, to the extent that one of their number is openly homosexual to his mates, knowing that they all respect one another.
The romantic development between two of the police, is, due to necessity, kept well under wraps adding to the build up of tensions that slowly, convincingly, and eventually alarmingly quickly mount. This and all other complex ingredients lead to a surprise conclusion.
Hudson’s “Undercover Lover” quickly becomes a book that the reader is loathe to put down!

Drew, a detective has infiltrated the Marconi gang in order to bring them down. In the meantime, Rafe and FBI agent is almost to the end of his undercover assignment. Having Drew come on the scene complicates things as the two ease into a relationship and start to help each other. Rafe has made the son of the mob boss his best friend and now wants to use this position to bring down all three mobs, Irish and Italian with his position. What happens if Drew or Rafe gets caught? Find out in this crime thriller by one of my favorite authors. My only complaint is that the ending is a little weak, but still is an HEA. Good reading. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book
Cops, Mafia and the FBI, what could possibly go wrong ?....or right? In this story we have some slimy mafia, a hot cos and FBI agent. Can Rafe and Drew trust each other completely when lying is the name of the game? Rafe needs to come clean about everything but can he/ will he trust Drew 100%? He'll have to if he wants what they found together to be real. Death, deceit, back stabbing, a crazy , murdering stalker and love are all rolled into this story. Some characters you want to smack with a bat, others you just want to hug. Great read all around.
I thought this was a really interesting book. I usually don't read the mafia type books but this one was really good. Drew and Rafe had an instant chemistry and fit very well together both working undercover and in private. The hospital scene was sweet. Very well written book.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Another amazing story from Max Hudson, undercover FBI agent finds love with an undercover detective,,but there's a few twists and turns along the way.. really strong leading characters,, and good solid secondary characters... pick it up and read it you wont be disappointed.
This is another great book by Max Hudson. It drew me in from the very first page and I couldn't put it down. It had the right amount of romance and suspense mixed together. I absolutely loved the MC's and I didn't want their story to end. Loved it!
DNF. Would be Mafia action/romance book which just didn't cut it for me. Cue "their eyes met" and "insta" everything followed. The Mafia/undercover action was just not believable. Sorry.
