Nell Grey continues her Freshwater Bay family saga series with a series of unexpected twists that turn enemies into friends, into lovers, into enemies and lovers again. (Hey, if it was easy it wouldn't be a fun read). Ariana is a struggling jewellry designer in Wales who finds a supportive online partner in Hollywood slacker Rhys Morgan - only she doesn't know it because they both are using typical online usernames that protect their identities but not for long.

When the two end up meeting in real life, there are discoveries, surprises and one twist after another as they try to find a way to turn an online relationship into a real world affair.

I picked this book up because I love reading books about actors but Rhys isn't much of one and it's really not a big part of his character of the story. That left me a bit disappointed. I was also initially turned off by Rhys' sad-sack characterization. Everyone deserves a second chance, but I wasn't rooting for him to find love at the start of the book, and especially not after his secrets are revealed.

However, by the time I got into the middle of the book, I found myself charmed by the writing and intrigued by the twists and turns in Rhys and Ariana's relationship. There is also quite a bit of story devoted to the other family members from previous and future books, so if you're into family sagas and you've read from book one, you'll find even more to like here.

On the steamy scale: there are couple of passionate love scenes that never go over the top. I'd put it somewhere between Subtle and Warm on the scale.

The biggest draw for me ended up not being the "actor" portion of the book but the lovely setting on the coast of Wales. This is a place I've often heard about but have rarely encountered in books so it was a nice change of pace and I enjoyed the bits of local culture that made their way into the story.

Overall The Actor's Deceit is an easy, enjoyable read for those who believe in second chances and sweet romance.

Second Chance reality

Rhys is really messed up. Only his online relationship with "Bianca" saves him from death and gets him into rehab. I like the honesty of his situation and how he faces all the lies he has told his loved ones and bad things he has done to to Ariana (Bianca). He's truly on a road to redemption. This was a nice change from Beth & Gareth's assumptions and lack of communication. Even at her angriest, you know Ariana will think things through and eventually forgive Rhys. I love the continuation of Beth and Gareth's involvement and the set up for Alys and Owen. Lots of ups and downs with a great ending for a second chance romance. I hope we continue to have updates on both couples in the next book.

Other than needing heavy editing, this story is very likable. The characters are wonderful, and it’s a fun and enjoyable romance.

I like the fact that the story involves an entire family of one of the characters, and doesn't just focus on the two main characters. It nicely sets up those individuals for a future book in the series.

I liked this story. I enjoyed the first one in the Freshwater Bay Series a little more "The Strictly Business Proposal" but I liked this enough to want to read the 3rd book next.
Easy read, I enjoyed the characters, it just didn't peak my attention.

This is the 2nd book I've read written by Neil Grey; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the characters.

The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things interesting. Add in drama and passion and you have a good read.

I’d give this book three and a half stars if I could. I found it a quick and entertaining read, perfect for anyone in the mood for a bit of escapist romance. For me, the prologue was the best-written part: it had real drama and an emotional kick. The romance was sweet and the characters very likeable, but I didn’t feel it equalled the same charm and passion of book one, and there were places where the editing and proofreading could have been stronger. I definitely enjoyed it enough to want to read book three.
