You ever read a book or graphic novel and think, What was the point of that? That's what I thought after reading Classic Jurassic Park. I'm usually wary of movie adaptation graphic novels or comic books, but the one done ages ago on Star Wars and another on Alien (the original Ridley Scott film) were so good that I picked this one up.
This is a chopped up, shorter-than-the-Reader's-Digest-condenced-book version, cutting out a lot of the best parts of the movie. And the art is pretty bad. The dinos are done pretty well -- but the people like look gargoyles. The only attempt to really make any of the people look like the actors in the movie was for Laura Dern. Everyone else looked like -- well, like a dino skeleton in human skin. Think of a graphic novel with Laura Dern and Christopher Walken playing all of the other parts and you've got a good idea.
The only reason I gave this one star is because it answered the question cut out of the movie -- just why was the triceratops sick? (That's not a set up to a joke, by the way -- although it really should be.)
This is the comic telling of the original Jurassic Park film. I remember getting these as comics as they came out. Reading this brought back all those nostalgic memories. The artwork leaves a little to be desired but is a nostalgic look back to happy childhood memories.
The beginning of the Classic Jurassic Park (Paperback). It is cool because they like flip out when they realize that there paleontologist program will be funded for three years! The middle is a little strange because they get in the car and them after some time they get there car flipped over by a gal darn Tyrannosaurus Rex! I love the ending because they defeat the Velociraptors and agree to never sign off on the forms to open Jurassic Park. Then leave saying "Take A Look Kids This Is A Sight You May Never See Again!"
This is basically the first Jurassic Park film put into Graphic Novel format. There are a few small changes to the story which I think was done in the interest of not having the novel be too long and involved. It seemed like it was definitely geared more towards the young adult audience rather than the adult readers. The illustrations where very bright and resembled a lot of the characters from the movie. I found this quite amusing as it’s always interesting to see people drawn as characters.
For anyone who is not familiar with the Jurassic Park movie (is there anyone out there?) here is a brief overview of the story. John Hammond is in the process of starting up a Park like no park you have ever seen before, and due to a few untimely accidents still in the beginning phases his investors are getting a little anxious about the whole thing and have sent in a lawyer to investigate. They would like two experts in the field to sign off on the park before they continue to fully fund this park.
Dr. Allen Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Ian Malcolm all fly to the island to give their opinions on the park, and what they see is a park filled with living Dinosaurs. Dr. Ian Malcolm is an expert when it comes to chaos theories and his experience has shown him that this park will not run the way John Hammond is hoping.
I don’t want to ruin the story if there is anyone out there who does not know of it, but then I also strongly urge you to watch the movie. :0)
Although the adaptation quality of this graphic novel was not particularly high, I did really enjoy reading it. And now I want to watch the movie. I <3 dinosaurs.
Not even accurate to the movie, which itself wasn't very accurate to science. Heck, even the dinosaurs weren't drawn in line with those found in the movie.
Didn't like this one at al... I was hoping for some new twists, a bit of change from the book or the movie, but this is just a copy of the latter... Too bad..
