This beautiful book gives you step-by-step instructions on how to contact fairies; how to see and hear them, and ways to work with them personally to heal your career, health, and love-life issues. You’ll read channeled messages from the fairy realm, and case studies about Dr. Virtue and her clients, who have benefitted from interacting with the elemental kingdom.
What a beautiful story. A true fairy tale. I really enjoyed reading this book didn't take me too long to get through it at all. Doreen Virtue tells of how the fairies helped her follow the path she trully wanted deep within and helped her to find her true soulmate. The fairies, I'm now learning, are very powerful beings, types of angels that carry a physical body and who's first priority is to help the enviornment. To take care of the beautiful things this universe has naturally given us. Things we take for granted every day. The fairies are completely open to helping us humans, they want us to know who they are and that they do exist and work at all times to help all of the natural elements God has given, the earth, air, water, plants, animals, birds, and humans. They want us to know that they can help us to get where we need to be. We can talk to them at any time. But they need us to care about our environment. They need us to recycle, eat and drink healthy, contribute to programs that promote health and to prevent extinction of animals. The elementals (fairies, mermaids, knomes, leprechauns, tree and bush people, etc) all want us to know that each person has the power to greatly improve our way of life by taking care of the world we live in, and taking care of all the living beings, plants, animals, and even humans. Be kind and gentle with the earth. Warn the fairies to leave temporarily before you step on the grass, or pick a flower, or mow the lawn. This helps TREMENDOUSLY. Little things like rinsing things out before recycling, picking up garbage outside help a great deal. Don't forget to put your bird feeder out as well to take care of the birds. It creates a wonderful warm feeling when you know you've accomplished something even as small as it seems. It changes the way you feel all together. The fairies are here people. They want us to see feel and beleive in them. They want to be with us and know how much they love us. Help them to help us by being kind and gentle and sweet to our earth.
Oh. Oh man. Let me first admit that I just couldn't finish this book. Call me a cynic, but this is some awfully fluffy crap. I guess I am more invested in the idea that the Fae aren't here to serve us, nor to be our "guardians" or anything like that. Nor are they intrinsically "good". I think that is a very unjust projection and wishful thinking on our part. I think I'll stick with Kenny Klien, Bob Curran and the like.
I did like this, although it was more of a recount of Doreen's experiences in connecting with the elementals than a 'how to' book. I would've liked more info on how to connect with the Fairies and a little less about her relationship... although I think part of the reason it was hard to read about her falling in love with Steven is that they are now divorced! Kind of made the lovey-dovey stuff seem less real for me.
I genuinely enjoyed this book, although I think for me it’s necessary to take it with a grain of salt. I enjoyed believing in fairies and learning about incarnated beings from different places. I even enjoyed hearing all about her divine timing in her life and her love story throughout. I’ve since learnt that Doreen Virtue might not be the same person who she was when she wrote this book, but that doesn’t make any of what she said back then not valid! I thoroughly enjoyed beginning 2021 with a book of magic and enjoyment!
I still think about this book almost everyday. I read it over a year ago, and it really did change the way I view life. I am more conscious about the way I treat the Earth. I started recycling more, and paying more attention to nature. It is really inspiring.
I'm not sure which I actually like better, Healing with the Fairies or Healing with the Angels. Both are good. I think it's mainly on what I am experiencing in life at that time and what feels right.
I did not only dislike this book for my distrust and dislike of the new age movement. I had a supernatural expirence when I felt both of my Celtic bloodlines protest to the false information in this book. They rarely agree on anything. My first and biggest problem with this book is the incorrect information on fairies. Fairies are not a type of angelic being above humans. Legend tells us that they either fell from Heaven, or crawled up from Hell to live with us on this plane. Although, it seems to me, the fairy realm would be separated by something like being on a spiritual plane versus a physical one. I do not believe humans and fairies interact that closely daily--Or would, if they, in theory, existed. Number two: My item one of this review is the biggest problem I have with the new age movement. If you're going to be a norse pagan, Study, Norse. Mythology. At the very least you need to read 'Norse Mythology' by Neil Gaiman. I don't feel like the author did her research and threw out thousands of years of culture and lore to fit her narative. If the tales she was retelling hadn't been Eurocentric we would have called this harmful. Three, billing this as Christian content really urked me. I have learned that there is truth and there is "not truth". Not truth is not necessarily a lie. Sometimes, we as christians are deceived by something convenient that offers quick solutions. Drinking your problems, burying yourself in work, spiritualism that leads you to pray to beings that are not Jesus. I have to admit, it took me a while to come around to Catholicism, although it is the mother branch for modern christianity. Praying to saints for help threw me at first. Much to the author's credit she mentions we (christians) aren't allowed to WORSHIP other beings. However, praying to the good neighbors for help seems like really pushing it too close to the line. Fourth and finally, teaching people to allow strange metaphysical beings to toy around in or with their energy is extremely dangerous. You should never allow your energy to be used by another being. Ever. Not to a ghost, not to a fairy, not to a diety, not to your best friend. Nada. It is a very good way to get possessed. Now the burning question everyone who bothered to read this has: Do I really believe in this stuff? Yes and no. I'm a Christian. Thusly, I know something bigger than myself is out there. I am enthusiastic about old legends and folk lore. (Currently reading up on Mayan legends) But to me most of the time, that's just it. These are cultural stories. They deserve to be treated with respect, real or not.
As much as I want fairies to be real, it’s hard to believe in this unseen world without some kind of personal witness. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed reading Doreen’s witness. This book is filled with goodness and so many things that resonate with me. Her story is really fascinating. I feel an even higher respect for nature than I did before reading it. I can relate to the emotional and relationship issues that she had in her life, and seeing how she endured and healed was cathartic and hopeful for me. All the information on elementals and supposedly from elementals was really very interesting to me. A few things didn’t make sense to me, but the vast majority was either sound or plausible to me. I plan to read this one again some time.
There were some story telling elements that I really enjoyed; that said, this is not in any way a book about fairies. This was more one woman’s metaphysical journey. And that woman was so Christian, it at times made me want to gag.
Fairies are not servants - not to the Christian god or any god and certainly, they are no servant to puny, arrogant, stinky humans. They were here first. We would do well to remember that.
I was expecting this book to be a manual as to how to heal various aspects of your life using the help of the nature, however it was Doreen's autobiography about a period of her life where she claims she used the help of the fairies to heal her personal and erotic life. I was very disappointed to be honest, especially after reading the ''Healing with the angels'' book which was amazing, this one did not live up to the expectations I had created from the previous book.
On the one hand, the author sounds a little crazy, seeing fairies and getting into "new age" things that sound nuts. ON THE OTHER HAND, if you look at all she talks about in a somewhat alleghorical sense, it's a wonderful way to look at life. And I can't help but wonder ... if I begin trying many of these ideas, maybe I will, in fact, begin to "see" fairies. I'm certain I can already feel the healing!
I wasn't really sure what to expect with this book. The book takes you on the journey that Doreen Virtue took to heal with fairies, her own healing and about the workshops she hosts. The book does make you think about elementals. I think you need to be interested in these matters to read this book. I enjoyed it though.
This was my first Oracle deck given to me when I was 11 so it has a special place for nostalgia. Though objectively the art quality is kind of all over the place and images often don't really match up with the concept on the card. Also the cards are bit too big for me personally. But the guidebook is simple and easy to read.
Beautiful words that truly connected with me. Doreen has a way of allowing you to feel a d see what she's describing. I adore this book. I finished it in December 2016 and I am about to start reading it again.
What I love most about this book is the ecological core, which makes you think about living a more environmental friendly life style that is good for you and the planet. I believe in the fairies and elementals.
There are things about this book that really resonate with me and other parts not so much. I don't really buy into the Christianized version of fair folk, but there is still a lot of good in this book, and I do believe it's Doreen's truth. Just not mine! But I like this book enough that I'm keeping it in my library.
Edit: upon looking up Doreen I revoke my positive spin and will not be keeping this book on my shelf. I had no realized Doreen had fallen from grace, and wish I had read about her before committing to this book and giving it my best shot despite my criticisms.
This was a fun and quick read with some helpful insights, but I agree with others that it is mostly just a story of her life. Sometimes it is nice to read about peoples’ personal ties with fairies, so you may want to check it out if you’re looking into firsthand accounts. I also liked when she expanded on mermaids and tree people and wish she could have written some more on that.
I don't know how anyone can read this and think it's a spiritual book. While it briefly touches on the subject matter, most of it is about Doreen's personal life. Some details I really didn't care to know, but maybe she thought it would make her fairy case more compelling. Hardly any of it addresses how to connect with the fae. When I finished it I felt mildly disgusted and disappointed.
And before anyone judges me as a Randi-loving atheist with my review (which I'm not and frankly I find them just as annoying as many New Agers), I used to be heavily involved with the spiritual/metaphysical community and I knew of Doreen Virtue's ATP acolytes (even got readings from many of them). For the most part I still believe in a Higher Self and that we all have a greater purpose, but I've become less dependent on the psychic readings (which now that I think about it, were mostly pointless and a waste of money) and New Age fluff.
Secondly, I hate to burst anyone's New Age bubble but Doreen is no longer married to Steven Farmer. The two divorced back in 2009. I'm always surprised when people write great reviews on this book not knowing that she isn't married to the guy she claimed to be her "twin flame", a concept I always found difficult to believe, even when I was a New Age junkie. If you don't believe me, look at her facebook page. She is on her fifth marriage.
Anyway, who am I to judge? lol
