Keri Wolf hadn’t imagined she’d be called out as Halloween neared—she was still in the academy and Joe . . .

Well, Joe was just becoming accustomed to the idea that she had decided to join him as an agent, having the special talent that allowed an agent to become Krewe.
But that Halloween she was going to become Krewe—as a consultant. Because a killer who had struck three times before was threatening to kill again, this time at a Halloween theme park in Louisiana.

There were plenty of able agents with the Krewe, in Joe Dunhill’s mind. Why Keri and him, when he was comparatively new in his position and she wasn’t even out of the academy yet?

But there was a method to the madness. Because Keri had written one of her acclaimed non-fiction books on the killings that had first taken place in Massachusetts. She knew the woman who had called in a warning, supposedly given to her by a Revolutionary War soldier who had made his way from Massachusetts to Louisiana to tell her that it would happen again--just as the killer sent his rhyme for that year.
“Trick or treat, trick or treat
Not looking for anything good to eat
Must may be that I’m up for a trick
Think this time, a nice big pick.”
She was no actress, but Keri was about to play the role of her lifetime as Devilla Dolly, an evil doll in the Murder House, while Joe played Count Rapier.

They had to catch a killer, before a killer caught them, and Halloween was almost upon them.

A nice little story

Halloween means different things to different people. Unfortunately, a serial killer is ready to strike at his favorite kind of place... a Halloween Theme Park. Keri Wolf is almost finished with her FBI training. Joe, her partner in more ways than one is a seasoned agent. Together, they try to stop the killer before he/she strikes again.

Halloween supernatural-mystery w a huge cast of characters

It’s nearing Thanksgiving, but I enjoyed this supernatural Halloween story. For the past three years, a murderer has sent police a rather nasty Halloween poem, and then killed four people 1-3 days before Halloween—each time in a Halloween theme park. So far, murders have taken place in Massachusetts, Los Angeles and Arizona. This year, it’ll be Horror-ween in Ascension Parish, Louisiana.

This short story/novella of 137 pages has ‘way too many secondary & tertiary characters. Happily, I did remember most of the Krewe characters from earlier books. As for secondaries: Um, which one’s Brenda? Belinda? Luckily, Brian is a man. That’s not all. Two characters have had name changes! For good reasons, but nevertheless, three eye roll emojis for author Graham.

I skipped box-ticking for a villain, because I was certain there had to be at least two—in keeping with author Graham’s couples theme. The FBI supposedly checked suspects’ backgrounds, yet seemed to rely on an outsider’s word about several others. I chose one of the more innocuous secondary characters as the serial multiple-murderer. How he’d committed the earlier murders escaped me at the time, but shrugging that off, I also chose a possible accomplice based on age and sex.

Not to worry, Heather Graham’s Krewe fans. It’s all explained at the end.

Keri Wolf and her partner, Joe Dunhill, are being sent to a Halloween park in Louisiana where it's expected that a gruesome murder of four people will take place. Joe is a member of the Krewe of Hunters but Keri is still going through the FBI Academy although she's been cleared for the mission. The expected murder will be the fourth in a series of murders that began four years ago when a high school girl saw the ghost of a Revolutionary soldier who warned her to leave. She talked her friends into leaving as well. Now the ghost has returned to warn of the danger once again. With Keri and Joe undercover and more of the Krewe checking in, can they stop the killer in time?

I absolutely love Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters series and this story was no exception. I really enjoyed the quick read that brought back some characters and introduced others. Well-written with a lot of intrigue and mystery, the story kept me hooked from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.

Aptly titled

Halloween is fun and can be frightful. I am scared of the haunted trails and forests so I don’t tend to go them and this story played on that fear! As always the descriptions are vivid and the action is fast paced. The writing drew me into the story and characters. There is several loopholes and twists to the story that were great tricks to who was guilty.

I like the couple but I wish Joe was not so worried and questioning of Kerris potential. Jackson was present and I love having him in the stories, such a solid character and personality. The ghost was one of my favorites and I enjoyed his description of the souls versus the body for feelings. Another great Krewe moment!

3 stars.

A serial killer who kills annually in different seasonal Halloween theme parks sends the police a poem showing his intentions to kill during the current Halloween. A Krewe couple is sent in to the Halloween theme park to play "scare actors" to investigate. Lots of suspects since most people who work at these theme parks are temporary workers but you do get some inklings who's most likely.

I do find the whole Halloween holiday a very strange one and it's getting some traction in Australia too these days. But these seasonal Halloween theme parks seem to be something very uniquely American as I don't think I've heard about them before.

Great Story!

Keri and Joe of the Krewe Hunters are trying to find out who is going from Halloween Park to Halloween Park killing people! They always seem to kill in groups of four and no one can figure out how they are separating them from the crowds. They suspect it might be someone who works for the attraction but could it possibly be someone from the crowd? Will they be able to solve the murders before next Halloween and save the next victims? Read on. Definitely recommend!

It's Krewe Time

Joe and Kari are new to the FBI and the Krewe of Hunters specialty unit, but they have been sent to New Orleans to help stop a killer who strikes on Halloween. Will they find him in time? Or will they become the his next victims?

This book seemed a little disjointed and rushed at times but I'm such a huge Krewe fan, I can pretty much overlook anything. LOL I'm ready for more Krewe!

Another a winner!!

Wow! Mix Heather Graham and her Krewe of Hunters with Halloween and you have a wonderfully scary story! The bad guys get what they deserve and the good guys get another win against evil. Sometimes I wonder where Graham comes up with these stories! Then I decide that I don't want to know and am glad that I get to read them, not research them. Enjoy this book and the wonderful ability Graham has to weave a story!

Halloween theme parks

Keri and Joe are summoned to chat with Angela and Jackson. Keri is given leave from the Academy to help on a case that has them going after a killer who kills near Halloween. This time it is deemed Halloween is the day he will strike again. They join the theme park crew to get the players and the game begins. See who the killer is and how he plans to get his next victim.

Perfect

As always you can't go wrong with a Krewe book. Although I do prefer the full novels because they are much more detailed with history and new characters. Graham is one of my favorite authors.

I read this novella during a time in my life when I was on auto-pilet based on some personal endevours unfolding/being resolved and living in a semi-closed world due to Covid. So I really only posted one note at this time...

A lot of characters to keep track of and some going by new names too.

Okay- not great.

Not the best of this writer. The plot seemed forced and so did the characters. If you get it for free it might be worth a read. I wouldn’t pay for though.
