Was für eine schöne Geschichte um Selbstfindung und Selbstakzeptanz. Takase, der sich selbst belügt was seine Sexualität betrifft, lernt sich so zu akzeptieren wie er ist. Ito, der mit seiner Sexualität im Reinen ist und offen damit umgeht, lernt für sich selbst stark zu sein. Für einen Einzelband ist die Geschichte schön erzählt. Es hat mir gut gefallen zu sehen, wie Takase es schafft ehrlich zu sich zu sein, weil er Ito kennengerlent hat. Dieser gibt ihm durch seine offene Art die Kraft und den Mut zu akzeptieren, was er eigentlich schon immer wusste: dass er schwul ist. Im Gegenzug schafft er es Ito wieder glücklich zu machen. Ito ist ein offener und fröhlicher Mensch, der aber aus Angst vor einer erneuten Verletzung verständlicherweise vorsichtig geworden ist, mit wem er sich einlässt.
Die Art und Weise wie die Geschichte erzählt wird ist toll, auch wenn der Manga im Grunde nichts Neues erfindet (was er aber auch nicht muss, weil es hier sehr gut passt). Takase lässt Ito im Glauben er sei heterosexuell. Takase fand Ito schon vorher faszinierend, aber in der Zeit in der sie sich näher kennenlernen verliebt er sich in ihn und will Ito alles beichten. Ito der zuvor von einem heterosexuellen Mann verletzt wurde, weist Takase ab, so dass Takase Ito überzeugen muss, dass er es ernst meint. Mir hat sehr gut gefallen, dass die beiden sich zunächst langsam kennenlernen, was sehr dabei geholfen hat zu verstehen, warum die beiden Gefühle für einander entwickeln und letztendlich zueinanderfinden, auch wenn Takase sehr schnell merkt, dass er verliebt ist, was wohl dem Umstand geschuldet ist, dass es sich um einen Einzelband handelt. Ich habe mich beim Lesen darauf gefreut zu erfahren, wie die zwei letztendlich ihr Problem überwinden und am Ende des Bandes als Paar zusammen finden. Leider kam Ito's Seite etwas zu kurz, da die Geschichte aus Takases Perspektive erzählt wurde. Es war aber wirklich schön zu sehen, wie Takase Ito wertschätzt. Die ganze Geschichte war schon fast ein wenig zu schnulzig, hat mich am Ende aber sehr glücklich zurück gelassen.

What a beautiful story about self-discovery and self-acceptance. Takase, who lies to himself about his sexuality, learns to accept himself as he is. Ito, who is at peace with his sexuality and open about it, learns to be strong for himself. For a single volume, the story is beautifully told. I liked seeing how Takase manages to be honest with himself because he got to know Ito. Ito's open nature gives him the strength and courage to accept what he has always known: that he is gay. In return, he manages to make Ito happy again. Ito is an open and cheerful person, but he has understandably become cautious about who he gets involved with out of fear of being hurt again.
The way the story was told was great, even though it doesn't invent anything new (but it really doesn't need to, because it just fits). Takase lets Ito believe he is heterosexual. Takase found Ito fascinating before, but as they get to know each other he falls in love with him and wants to confess everything to Ito. Ito, who was previously hurt by a heterosexual man, rejects Takase, so Takase has to convince Ito that he is serious and that his feelings are genuine. I really liked that the two get to know each other slowly at first, which helped a lot with understanding why the two develop feelings for each other, even though Takase realises very quickly that he is in love, which is probably due to the fact that this is a single volume. As I was reading, I was looking forward to finding out how the two eventually overcome this problem and become a couple at the end of the volume. Unfortunately, Ito's side came up a bit short as the story's told from Takase's perspective. However, it was really nice to see how Takase appreciates Ito. The whole story was almost a little too corny, but left me very happy in the end.

NovelUpdates title: The Liar Beside Me
I honestly hadn’t expected a short story to be this sweet, complete, and wholesome. In just nine chapters, we witness a closeted man come to terms with his sexuality and grow into someone honest and brave about his feelings. The guy he falls in love with is sweet, but has been scarred by a painful past relationship. It’s incredibly heartwarming to see him finally receive the love he deserves.

I've copy pasted my review for the original novel because I've read both and decided I wanted to say the exact same things I said about the original novel. The only thing I can say that is manga specific is that's the way it's drawn is very faithful to the original novel, but nothing special. Actually, the manga's sex scene was different from the original novel and it was worse because Takase was very hot for just going straight into sucking a guy's dick during his first time with a man and just swallowing everything. And the manga took that part out. What the hell. One less star for you.
Also, chapter five was completely different from the original but it served nothing for the manga, honestly.
The whole thing was very cute and extremely sweet. And it's true that the main character is really wrestling with his sexuality throughout the book, but this managed to be pretty wholesome. But I'm very surprised that no one has mentioned the very prevalent theme of internalized homophobia and externalized biphobia in this book. I get why the MC (Takase) who found out his sexuality in later life would go with "bisexuality" label instead of "gay" before accepting his own homosexuality so it's not about that. I'm talking about Yuuichi's position. It's really tough to read some parts because while I can understand Yuuichi's wariness, it really is just plain ol' biphobia to declare you as a gay guy are never dating someone who's attracted to women again because that person might cheat on you with a woman. Not to mention, this is literally a talking point that has been so overused when it comes to bisexual people. No sexuality is more prone to cheating than any other sexuality. That's not how that works. Not to mention, calling Tooru "a straight guy" is literally erasure. He's an asshole but he dated a man for four years, that's absolutely not a sign of heterosexuality. Anyway, that dampened my mood quite a bit towards the end of the book. I desperately wanted to give this four or five stars because of the beautifully written love story. The chemistry is on point. The characterization is so vibrant you can literally see them be so multidimensional. But biphobia is not a thing I am going to endorse in queer books, and I will especially point that out in a book that keeps being praised by others as "special" or "heartwarming" or "wholesome". It's not flawless and the author could've done better.

Die eigene se x u elle Orientierung akzeptieren und offen auszuleben sind erstens 2 Paar Schuhe und zweiten hier in diesem kleinen Strand Alone Thema. Meiner Meinung nach wurde es sehr realitätsnah dargestellt und ich konnte mich gut in Takese hineinversetzen.
Ito ist ein total lieber Mensch, der in der Liebe leider Pech hatte und nun Angst, sein Herz wieder an einen vermeidlich hetero Kerl zu verlieren. Auch das wurde hier gut zum Ausdruck gebracht.
Dazu die wunderschönen Zeichnungen und schon war es für mich ein sehr gutes Leseerlebnis.
Ito ist ein total lieber Mensch, der in der Liebe leider Pech hatte und nun Angst, sein Herz wieder an einen vermeidlich hetero Kerl zu verlieren. Auch das wurde hier gut zum Ausdruck gebracht.
Dazu die wunderschönen Zeichnungen und schon war es für mich ein sehr gutes Leseerlebnis.

One of my favorites from the author. Both characters are gay 🤭 Love it. We do have some classic tropes. Our author loves a certain set of tropes. Which aren't my favorite, but I don't mind. There is a miscommunication while in relationship chapter, which I wish didn't happen. But it's only the one chapter. I do very much like that it's a slower burn. And our main character is coming to terms with existing outside of the closet.

Doch seitdem er auf Ito getroffen ist, scheint er seine Gefühle nur noch schwer bändigen zu können.
Ito ist Angestellter in einem Softwareunternehmen. Er achtet oftmals mehr auf die Bedürfnisse anderer, als auf seine eigenen. Dennoch hat er eine offene und ausgelassene Art.
Fazit
Während des Lesens war ich vollkommen abgetaucht, weil die Emotionen wirklich gut transportiert wurden. Dadurch hatte ich auch schnell einen Draht zu den Charakteren, die ich von Beginn an mochte.
Dieser ist (mal wieder) einer der One Shots bei denen ich traurig bin, dass er nicht weitergeht. Ich hätte die beiden gern noch eine Weile begleitet.
Im Nachwort las ich dann, dass dieser Manga ursprünglich auf einer Yaoi Novel basiert. Nach ewigen Recherchen musste ich aber leider feststellen, dass sich diese nur auf japanisch finden lassen. Wer übersetzt das denn jetzt für mich?

Si bien sabe que se siente atraído por el mismo sexo, Takase ha estado mintiendo al respecto debido al temor que siente a ser rechazado. Un día, conoce a Ito, que siempre está esperando a su amante masculino en un café. Takase, se siente interesado en Ito quien siempre demuestra sus verdaderos sentimientos y no esconde el hecho de que su pareja es otro hombre. Un día Takase se siente fuertemente sacudido por el impacto que le causan las lagrimas de Ito causadas por la traición de quien fuera su pareja y así comienza una amistad sin igual con Ito, Sin embargo, comienza a darse cuenta que desea ser más que amigos, el problema es que aún siente miedo de decir que es gay.
