Late 1800’s Due to her father’s accumulating gambling debt, Madeline Sorrells finds herself traveling from Colorado to Nevada to marry the man her father is indebted to as payment. Her life is turned upside down. Not only is her relationship with her father severed, but she also finds herself at odds with the God who claims to love her. David Shelton arrives in Colorado to “collect” a wife for his unscrupulous brother, Richard. He is to escort her back to Virginia City, Nevada, in a month. Only then will his own debt be paid off and he can finally taste freedom! This task, however, begins to eat away at his conscience. Though Madeline is frustrating and annoying, he can’t keep from wondering how to reconcile delivering her to a man like Richard and trying to be the man God wants him to be. David and Madeline, with mutual disdain for the destiny ahead, face many trials and obstacles along the way as their barely cordial attitudes slowly turn to something more. Would David be willing to give up his long-awaited freedom? Would Richard let Madeline go if David agreed to continue working for him? What happens to their faith when things do not go as they hoped?
LOVED. LITERALLY LOVEDDDDD. This man set the standard for what I'm looking for. Also I really like how even though she did end up miserable and it felt like nothing good was happening it got turned around. But only AFTER she actually had to go through it. And Richard got shot in the face so like that's funny and I know I know I sound horrible but like he cheated and as the author (yes I talked to the author about this book) said, "some people just don't get redeemed." Which is cool to see in a book, cause there's so much truth in that. Sometimes bad things happen and you don't get redeemed. you don't get to apologize, or redeem yourself. His case was a shotgun while kissing but I mean that's the author right there.
fav character: David
least favorite: Richard duh.
