Welcome to a world of fantasy, fairy tales, and murder most foul...
My name's Elle. Princess Arielle, for those who know about my past. Cursed by my own father, now I’m banished to Grimm. I'm a siren, killer, and one of the best damned cold-case detectives in all of the bloody realms. I don’t stop until I discover the truth, no matter where that truth leads.
My next case sends me to Wonderland, a harrowing place of madness and dark secrets. I'd rather be landlocked than step foot on that tainted soil, but I don’t have a choice after discovering Alice’s bloodstained ribbon and a bandicoot's claw covered in blood beside two stiff's at the Charming's sprawling castle. My insatiable thirst for truth leads to a conspiracy that will not only rock the Grimm world but also my own.
No one ever walks away from Wonderland unscathed... No one.
The Long Goodnight, Book 2 Hook is back. Or at least that's what my partner the Mad Hatter, aka Maddox, claims. And I should totally believe him. He does have the sight after all. But I can't. I just won't. Because Hook...he was my world. And the day he died in my arms I nearly died too. It's taken me forever to get to a good place again, and that's why I won't go looking for him. I won't go searching for a ghost. Besides, I have a case.
Crow shifters. Bank heists. And lots and lots of stolen goodies. Just what I need to keep my mind off of Hook. But the crime syndicate known as the Slasher Gang they're not just small time crooks now, they're turning deadly. They're changing. No longer content just to rob and pillage, everywhere they go now they leave a sea of blood in their wake. And nothing about what they're doing makes any sense. A fae stronghold's been robbed. Dozens of the queen's royal guards have been killed. Whatever was taken, I know it's bad. Like crazy, stupid bad. Like end of the world kind of bad. I don't know how I know this, I just do. Something feels really wrong. I can feel it, taste it in the wind, hear it in the changing tides. Something super evil, super deadly, and super scary this way comes. I only hope I can stop it, whatever it is, or Grimm as we know it might never be the same again...
A Witch and a Fish, Book 3
Never should have been the end of my problems. I should be back on Grimm. With Hook. Hating Crowley. And working alongside my partner, the Hatter. But life rarely turns out how I expect. The Sea Witch, and oh, incidentally my mother, has told me I’m a witch. Not just any witch either, but one of the biggest bad. I wouldn’t believe her, except I can do magick now. Unfortunately I can’t do enough to escape the predicament I’m in. Hook’s dead. Crowley’s dead. And I’m alone in a realm that hates my guts. And there has been a murder. My sister’s, Aquata’s. The realm blames me. I didn’t do it, but I have no allies who’ll believe me. Worse yet, my father—their King—was injured in the attack and he’s now in a coma. I have days to prove my innocence before they toss me into the eternal pit of torment. Thankfully, I’ll discover that I’m not as alone as I once feared. But trusting this person might very well spell the death of me…
Selene Charles is the pen name of a NY Times and USA Today bestselling author.
She is an avid penguin sweater knitter. She believes that unicorns really do exist and that skittles aren't really candy at all. She enjoys skydiving in the arctic, chatting with her polar bear friends around a warm campfire while sipping on warm cocoa, and she used to work in a travelling carnival which is where she got all these crazy ideas from. Only two of these statements are actually true.

I have mentioned before that I like to occasionally read a different version of an old tale. This collection of books called the Grimm Files 1 - 3 fit neatly onto the space between mystery and crime. Research to incorporate individual quirks of folk lore and nursery rhyme characters was well spent. Thanks for beautiful, easy narrative that runs to hour long sessions of stolen time as I followed the non little mermaid [ a dangerous sieren]. I am sorry I am late to the investigation, there are now two more stories. One of the more interesting aspects the change of view as the story unfolds provides in sights that would be hidden from a single character telling. This is signaled by the name at the top of the chapter. What a nice job over all and exceptional concept.
I highly recommend this series!! The characters are incredible and they grow throughout the books!! You will fall in love with them and never want the series to end!! The best news is that book 4 will be out soon!! I cant wait!! All of Selene Charles books and series are superb!! Epic writer!!
...you won't want to stop! This is not your fluffy fairytale retell, but a gritty, mysterious and magical total re-imaging of what you thought this might be. Did not see the conclusion of book three coming -what a masterful work for those people like me that love the off the beaten path works.
I loved the characters in these books! The story flowed really well & kept me guessing every step of the way! I can't wait to figure out a way to read the last two books in the series. 😍
I may have to read it again I enjoyed it a lot the first time. The characters were described so vividly I could see them in My mind. When a writer can keep Me interested, that's a darn good writer.
Interesting take on the supernatural police force, but the siren who can't resist a tumble with any male she is in close proximity with long enough was pretty off putting.
Arielle (the little siren, not quite the little mermaid) has been exiled and decided to be a homicide detective. I thought to call it a twisted fairy tale, but it’s more of an urban fantasy. My favorite genre 😀Gritty, fast-paced and fun. I couldn’t put it down!
