A bloodthirsty evil has been unleashed. And only one man can stop it…
Dan Tate is alone. His PTSD drove his wife away years ago. Now he is left with two children he barely sees, and a head full of nightmares that grow worse each day. But Dan has one very special gift… the spirits of the dead speak to him. With the help of a young ghost, Dan works to bring peace to these restless souls.
As Dan struggles to heal his own mental scars, a dark presence grows in the shadowy streets of his small town. Janet Ladd, a greedy and unscrupulous medium, has unleashed a terrifying force of evil from beyond the grave—a violent entity consumed by anger and rage. And as this sinister new ghost begins its bloody rampage, the town is gripped by fear. Panic and chaos consume the local populace, as the police find themselves at a loss to explain the mangled corpses on the streets.
As the body count grows, Dan soon finds himself on a collision course with the wrathful spirit. But can Dan summon the strength and resolve needed to banish this wraith back into darkness?
Or will his own tortured past drag him into the shadows of death?
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
Second in Ron Ripley's excellent TORMENTED SOULS Series, ANGER AND DEATH continues the narrative of the currently muxh-beleaguered community of Anger, New Hampshire, a town with a plethora of ghosts, plus power nexuses--power that certain ghosts, such as the evil Beverly, crave. But beyond Beverly is something or someone much worse, something she won't discuss; not evil with her morally corrupt human puppet, medium Janet Ladd.
Standing in opposition are a former journalist with PTSD, Dan; an elderly widow, Mary; a long-dead child ghost, Eli Coffin; and New Hampshire State Police Detective local native Evan Coffin.
Yet again another winner from this excellent author! These characters come to life, the story line pulls you in and you never want it to end!! As an extremely avid reader, I cannot say enough about the level of enjoyment from these books! Ripleys series' should all be made into movies! My only complaint....They're too short and always leave me wanting more! You wont regret any books by this author!!
Love this series! I'm not one who gets into series very often. Book one was a slow burn getting hotter by the hour. After book two im totally hooked on the story as a whole. Poor clumsy Dan getting beat up, but he is tough! It's safe to say I can't wait to get into book three!
Ron Ripley is doing it again. I admit at first I didn't think I was going like the main character (Dan) but he kinda grows on you. This series builds on past stories and beliefs in his other books. There is a taste of Shane Ryan and hope for more of him.
Alan
PS. Hoping someday to see a series on your Moran and Moran group.
Much better than book one of the series. I loved that Ripley brought in Shane from his Berkeley Street series. Well done!
Dan is still estranged from his children. Although with the help of his therapist, he is working on his courage. The courage to work through his issues and being ask his children for forgiveness.
Janet was still working the medium circuit. Using the needy to her advantage and calling in evil spirits to do the dirty work so that she could profit. She found a diabolical spirit she feels will yield her large profits. But would she be able to withstand the powers of Sister Ann. A wicked nun with a desire to harm. Especially children.
Please note: I was given a copy of this book and have voluntarily decided to give it this honest review.
Detective Evan Coffin is investigating a series of gruesome murders and goes to the historic schoolhouse, next to a graveyard, to speak with the caretaker, Dan Tate, who he thinks may be able to help him. While there he meets and talks with Eli, a young ghost, who is also a distant relative. Dan’s attempts to help ghosts gets the attention of other ghosts who live in the cemetery. Madame Haupt, an elegant and knowledgeable ghost and a relative of Eli, gives advise to Dan. Colonel Vincent Lee Cross, Dan’s cousin, instructs him how to use a shotgun, loaded with rock salt, against ghosts. Dan also has the help of the living, especially the city librarian, Diane Wright. Shane Ryan, from other series written by the author Ron Ripley, also makes an appearance in the book, going up against a dangerous and powerful killer ghost. This book ends with Dan, with the assistance of Eli, going up against a cunning and evil ghost that can easily kill Dan. The final fight kept my attention! I am looking forward to reading the continuing story in the Tortured Souls stories. This book introduced more characters, both living and dead. Dan continues to overcome his OCD and PTSD in order to resume a relationship with his children. The best advice he gets is from the ghost of a young child. Detective Evan Coffin learns that there are ghosts that live among the living.
I was provided this book by the publisher free of charge for reviewing purposes.
Continuing directly on from Coffin Cemetery, Anger and Death resumes Dan Tate's struggle against the forces working for and with medium Janet Ladd, whilst Anger, New Hampshire police department commences a thorough investigation into the numerous deaths within the town.
The main characters continue and the cast expands a little with some additional 'extras' some of which pass through, others which appear to be 'stayers' for new subplots, eg Manny.
I found this to be on par with the prior entry in to the series, so if you enjoyed that you will certainly enjoy this. I would recommend reading it prior to this however else you'll be missing out on the necessary background that positions the story and characters.
Would recommend for fans of paranormal and horror stories.
Something that is very important for the reader to know is that the story takes place in Anger, New Hampshire. Dan is still battling Janet and her ghosts. However, things are getting a lot hotter on the ghostly front. The evil seems to be growing. I kept wondering if Dan would be able to handle it all with everything he was going through. He still battles his PTSD. He has the help of the local sheriff who is also a distant relative to the young ghost boy Eli. They ban together to try to save the city that is being terrorized by the ghosts that Janet has unleashed on them.
It seems like each book in Ron Ripley’s “Tortured Souls” series is getting better. That is definitely what I enjoy in a good series.
This second book in this series is every bit as good as the first. It continues the story of Dan Tate and provides even more insight into his sad past. And yes, Shane Ryan finally makes an appearance. This is an excellent turn of events as it promises a lot more action to come. I cannot wait for the next installment of this awesome series. Dan and Eli are still trying to stop the destruction of the ghosts in Anger, New Hampshire. They still don't know for sure who is behind it but they are getting closer. I can almost taste the vengeance that will be reaped when the poo hits the fan here. Keep 'em coming, Ron Ripley.
I love this series! It's everything that I have come to expect from Ron Ripley! Dan lives in a cemetery with the dead, while some of the ghosts are good there are some very evil ones lurking about. Dan is learning how to deal with them with the help of a few friends. There are several complex characters that propel the plot along, making for an unputdownable, fast paced read. My only complaint is that I have to wait for the next book in the series. Please write faster Mr. Ripley!
These books appear to be nothing more than a device to trick money out of the consumer. The characters run around doing exactly the same things. Book one ended randomly but I thought I would give the benefit of the doubt. Book two has now just ended the same way. There is no character progression and the plot has moved on no further. There appears to be no reason why this should be a series except for a cynical attempt to make gratuitous income. The author writes well which make this more of an insult
Daniels vai vienkārši Dens Teits vien vēlas dzīvē jaunu iespēju gan karjerā, kur iepriekšējo un visai daudzsološo žurnālista karjeru traģiska atgadījuma dēļ nespēja turpināt, gan attiecībās ar dēlu Āronu un meitu Emīliju, ar kuriem galvenokārt paša attieksmes un dusmu kontroles problēmu dēļ nav bijušas tās pašas labākās. Ne visiem, pat saprotot savas kļūdas, pieņemot tās un apņemoties laboties, otra iespēja dzīvē maz tiek dota. Vien Dens nenojauš, cik ļoti gaidāmo sešu grāmatu sērijas notikumi pārbaudīs šo apņemšanos.
Although the story is about a new character Shane has returned. I am thrilled. The main character Dan Tate is really interesting. Severe PTSD and trying to put his life back together he has a lot of sides. As usual there are lots of interesting other characters. I always like the characters Ripley writes that usually end up dead. They are good quick character sketches and make you care about these poor victims. As usual can't wait for book three.
Yet another great book by Mr Ripley !The characters are great and never want the book to end soo many different characters with different situations soo Dan is a great character although this is a horror Mr Ripley brings a lot of warmth to the book and soo glad to see Shane reappear love his no no nonsense approach can't wait for next . Feel bit guilty reading soo quickly knowing it takes a lot of work but so good reading .
I'm really enjoying this new series. Ripley has, once again, created a line of characters that are easy to relate to and interesting. The nun in this story is terrifying. All I could think about was her getting ahold of my own kids. I still don't like the fact that his ghosts can physically touch their victims, but the victims can't touch the ghosts, but it is what it is. I still enjoy the stories and that's what matters to me.
The second book in the series did not disappoint. I really can't wait to see what Mr. Ripley has in store. Again the characters are well defined and the story line suspenseful. And again, we had an appearance of none other than Shane Ryan (of the Berkley Street series.) Loved it!
What can i say, that i love this series. You got ghost who hurt people. Then you have ghost who are good. And you have a man that helps them. I won't spoil the book since people get upset about that. So go by your own opinion. 5 friendly ghost out of 5
Ron Ripley has become a favorite author of mine. This book in my opinion is better than the first in the series. It pulls you in from the beginning and continues to hold your attention throughout. Shane from the the Berkeley series makes an appearance and I’m looking forward as to what role he may play in the future books. Looking forward to the next book!
The second fantastic book in Ron Ripley’s six book series. An absolute thriller! Former journalist Dan Tate is fighting ghosts in an attempt to save his town of Anger. Meanwhile, police are on the heels of the human who has been working with the ghosts that are causing the mysterious deaths. On top of fighting the evil ghosts, Dan has to fight his own demons with his past, and with his family.
Grabbed my attention right from the beginning and held it up until the end. It was riveting I just couldn't put it down. Finished it in one sitting. Loved the story line in this one, but felt so sorry for Tobias, the little boy ghost. This is absolutely an interesting and intense series. It's great!
As always, excellent story...a continuation of Dan, Eli and the Coffin cemetery....I cannot believe this is it? There must be another book? Nothing was resolved...I have to admit I am very frustrated.
Love ghost stories and read both books. What is the name of the book that follows on from its one? I really have to know how Dan got on helping the good ghost and ridding the town of bad ones.
I am so excited that Shane made an appearance in thus book. What a great start to a fun series. The characters are easy to live and root for. I can't wait to see Janet get taken down and I hope Shane and Dan do it together.
Some great characters in this one. I have to say I've never really had a fondness for nuns and found them cranky and nasty and this story does nothing in the way of changing my opinion.
This story was fast and kept you rooted. I love this author how he makes the characters so believable. Throughout the story I became Dan, the main character. Feeling his struggle, his pains, anger. Great read. Can't wait for the next book.
I loved it! can't wait to start the next in the series, I'm liking Dan, and well Janet is the devil lol, This little town has been though so much because of her and her not so friendly helpers.
