In the midst of America's Civil War, the fighting in the mountains of the Northwest is between the white soldiers and the Indian tribes.
An independent man with bonds in both worlds, Moses Calhoun finds himself caught between the opposing sides.
If he is going to survive, he must rely on his skill in the mountains.
If you love a Mountain Western so cold you need a blanket to read it, then grab your flintlock rifle and your possibles bag, and saddle up for this ride through the frozen Northwest. Make sure you've got plenty of powder and shot, because there will be Blood on the Mountain.

This book is about a terrible massacre of the Snake Indians in the mountains. The characters are very well described and the scenery is wonderful as well as deadly to those that do not know how to survive in it. A great book and I will be getting the second book in the series.
Welcome to the opening volley of a new series. The series chronicles the adventures of Mountain Man Moses Calhounin the western mountains of the United States in the 1860s. I enjoyed an exciting tale of a man fighting the bitter elements of the mountains in winter while saving his skin from both the U.S. Cavalry and the Indians. Moses agreed to take a warning to a friend’s daughter in an Indian camp soon to be attacked by the cavalry. A good story with a decent amount of background laid out for the MC. Although I do wish that western authors would express more veracity and understanding for/of the Indians at that time rather than advancing the rhetoric we learned as children. A different narrator might also add some “atmosphere” to the tale. Three.point.five. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Blood on the Mountain was intriguing from beginning to end, with great narration. I look forward to more of Robert Peecher's books on Audible. This first story of Moses Calhoun's adventures had vivid characters set right in the midst of a mountain winter. The locale, the army, the Indians were realistic antagonists in a story of survival. The author's Indian characters were well drawn. I do love how the author develops his protagonists ... the depth and revelation of men with honor, yet flawed, sometimes uncertain ... but always resolute . I look forward to the rest of this trilogy, hopefully, on audiobook.
I downloaded this novel via Kindle Unlimited because the blurb for the audiobook version was so compelling. This book made me feel like I was in the western mountains with snow all around, riding a sorrel to escape danger. Very informative about life in the frontier wild country and the different types of people who were moving into Snake Indian country. I like William Johnstone books and this book was similar in excitement and capturing your imagination. I'm going to stream the sequel.
Eli Simmons is an old mountain man. He lives in town now and doesn't get around anymore. His daughter and two grandkids live with the Snake People Indians because her husband is the son of the chief. Union soldiers have been dispatched to deal with Indians that have been murdering settlers. They are going after the Snake People, whether they are the right tribe or not. Eli imposes on his fellow mountain man, Moses Calhoun to get to their camp before the army, to warn his daughter and hopefully bring them back to him. With winter coming on, this is quite a challenge.
This adventure was in the midst of the Civil War back east and while soldiers in the west had signed up to fight the war, they ended up fighting Indians. Moses Calhoun and his family lived high in the mountains, had friends that were traders, knew many Indian leaders and they lived off the land as much as possible. Guns are blazing, tomahawks thrown and travel in harsh freezing weather is the main theme in this book. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and look forward to the next book.
I switched from the author s Western cowboy series to his mountain man three book series. This first volume sets the theme and location of the action. Now we have flint locks rather than cartridge firearms and a lot of hand to hand fighting. For an opening volume it is a real page turner. I give it five stars and recommend it for all ages.
Gripping! The plot twists and winds with snow, ice, battles, cowerdice, bravery, indians, fugitives deserters and cavalry. Hard to put down once you start readinf this suspence filled tale. In fact i did not, i finished readingit at 2:00 a.m. A Preecher must read.
The author has written a story about a man’s challenge with nature and the elements to fulfill his promise to a friend to save his daughter and grandchildren. The story is jam packed with action and suspense.
Very well written story about the people who survived by their wits and skills. This era in our history were hard times for all. Would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great story.
My first book by Robert Peecher, but not my last. I admit my preference to mountain man stories, so this one struck home for me. Excellent story, excellent character development. Anyone who likes this genre will love this book
I’m reading this series a bit out of order but, by no means, did it take away from the action and adventure! Thoroughly enjoyed the writing and narration! Looking forward to book 3. I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Interesting to hear stories of frontier life and the struggles that kept the men and women surviving in the wild frontier. I give it to Peecher for his ability to show what it would be like
This was a enjoyable read for me. At times even made me laugh. My first time reading from this author. Painted the environment the survival and the characters incredibly good without confusion.. Definitely recommend Blood on the Mountain.
Since I am a western fan, I thought that I would give this Mountain Man series a try. Very interesting tale of survival of the fittest. Highly recommend it.
