Raised as a vampire, I’m no stranger to blood. But when power-hungry supes force a ritual on me, I become something else entirely:
The Black Widow.
At first, my only companion is the spider that lives within me. She makes me strong, and I revel in that power, but it’s fueled with the need to feed.
Unfortunately, carnal cannibalism isn’t exactly trending. But in order to survive, I have to feed off the essence of my victims. By the time they see the hourglass on my throat, I’m draining them dry.
But there are more supes like me. Abducted victims forced into possessions that change their lives forever. I’m determined to save them all.
With the help of a hybrid and his crow army, a risk demon, and a rare gargoyle, I put a plan into motion that will end Spector Inc.’s plan to make an army of stronger, deadlier supes.
I just hope I can handle this wicked web of lies and make it out alive.
This book is in the Void universe and is a prequel to Void. You do not have to read Void to enjoy this book, but we highly recommend it.
Raven Kennedy is a tea and dark chocolate kind of girl and can often be found binge-watching The Office or The Great British Baking Show.
She enjoys writing all kinds of books, because each one brings a different experience. Whatever the genre, she hopes she creates characters you can root for.
When she’s not reading or writing, she’s with her family, probably messing up a recipe or going on a hike that she thinks she can do, but in reality she can't because she remembers that all she does is sit at a computer all day and write her heart out.
You can connect with her on Facebook in Raven Kennedy's Reader Group, as well as @ravenkennedybooks on Instagram.
Power didn’t make a monster. A monster made itself.
I loved this story. It was emotional. It was steamy. It was entertaining. I don’t think there’s much more to ask for. You don’t have to read Void to understand Wicked Webs, but I would. Some things that happen in this one play into things that happen in Void.
I loved Motley. I loved all her mates. I love that she actually grows as a character in multiple ways. I love that Daddy Risk is in this story, but in a whole new light.
This was just a good read. A great read for Halloween also because supernatural beings and demonic possessions. Literally screaming spoopy here.
HOKAY GUYS! I was told I really needed to drop whatever I was doing - breathing, eating, working, sleeping, and idk brushing my teeth - and dive into this book. Since I'm pretty easy to convince to do anything book related, it wasn't hard to be like.. "what is work?" every now and then.
Wicked Webs was so good! There's just something about Raven Kennedy's writing and her characters. Heck, anything dark will get me sucked in pretty quickly. Then I got to meet Motley, who is strong, confident, and kicks butt on a daily basis. So, yeah, I basically hooked guys.
Now since I read Void beforehand, I can say that I liked both books pretty equally. I'm not really picky when it comes to things. If it's an RH and beyond addicting, then I'm good with that. Everything just flies by when I'm in the zone and loving every page that my eyes devour.
I definitely can't wait for my next book by Raven,
I enjoyed Void. Compared to that, Wicked Webs wasn't my favourite between the two.
Wicked is a reverse harem/erotic romance/paranormal romance. A tad bit more on the erotica part which wasn't really my favourite...but overall I'd say a solid 3.5 stars?
Attention: Thank you very much but I'd also like to point out that though I did enjoy this book, my fear of spiders has still not been cured hahaha
I enjoyed this a lot It’s a stand-alone ✔️ RH✔️ Fantasy ✔️ Multiple supes and demons ✔️ Buff strong main character who owns her own sexuality ✔️ Sensitive alpha who doesn’t brood but legit just is awesome ... ✔️ one of my favourite BBF (top 10 at least) ✔️ Academy/more like prison ✔️ Just the right amount of sex scenes, not too much and not too long . Spot on ✔️🔥🔥🔥🔥 I recommend this book
This was fantastic, I didn't expect anything less from these two!It was brilliant, it has vampires ,demons, shifters and so many other things. It's the perfect read for Halloween !This one is fast paced and captivating! You will not get bored, you are going to be hooked and you will never want this one to ended! Motley Coven is fantastic, I loved her she is strong !
I am a HUGE fan of Coralee June and Raven Kennedy. When the two of them get together I get a beautiful feast of a book. I know, for sure, that I will not only enjoy the book but I’m guaranteed an utterly unique plot. The editing is flawless, the characters are well rounded and nothing like I’ve ever read before, and the steam level is perfect.
Wicked Webbs was SO FUCKING COOL GUYS. It was the perfect perfect perfect Halloween read. It was dark and dangerous with a dystopian feel without being dystopian. The Black Widow was sexy as hell, relatable (yes, even for a fantasy), and the RH element was done with sophistication and a whole lot of hotness. Lord save me.
Also...DADDY RISK 😭🖤 if you read Void then you know who Risk is. He’s EVERYTHING. Getting to see him before the events that took place in Void...it was so much fun. I love him even more now and I can’t WAIT to reread!
What a change of pace from Kennedy's rom-coms, but I enjoyed it. This was a lot darker and took more time to build the story and I was completely sucked in. Motley is so strong and a fighter and watching her kick butt was entertaining. I loved her mates, they were all different personalities that somehow meshed well together and their chemistry was well done.
I'm so glad I read this and I'm looking forward to the other books in this series!
I've had crappy luck with RH this year especially as the two big trends, bully romance and Academy don't appeal. But this is definitely one of the better ones I've read recently.
What this has going for it, for me anyway, is that I liked the concept and the mix of supernaturals. The way they were I dividully possessed by different, random, Demons was a good concept and I loved the MC's demon.
What is making me hesitate in potentially rounding up is the typical RH thing if not enough characterisation. The MC was reasonably well characterised, but I didn't really connect too much with Tomb or Crow, as they just didn't seem to have much of a personality. As she bonded with then so quickly, it felt as if the writers didn't feel developing their characters further was necessary. I'm also not sure why they feel for her, they just sort of did. Risk was definitely the only one I felt had any real personality, and he was definitely my favourite.
Whilst this didn't blow me away, I did enjoy it and would drifnitely recommend it.
I am gonna give this a five star for the uniqueness of the plot alone.
Motley Coven is a scholarship student at Thibault who has just graduated. She has worked her ass off to get a good job in the society but alas, the society is very jaded and Motley does not get a job offer. She is the bastard child of the vampire Paragon who no one knows about and lives with her aunt who suffers from bloodlust. When all hope seems lost, a company called Spector comes forward to recruit her. She has never heard of this company before, but left with no other option, Motley decides to attend the orientation. One signature is all it takes to change her whole life...
Wow I don't know where to begin. The concept of this book was damn unique and I loved it!! It was well- written and well-edited.
The guys were:
Crow: A Malphas Demon- Can control shadow crows (they're like wraiths in crow form, I guess)
Tomb: Gargoyle- His skin can turn to stone which is basically impenetrable.
Risk: Risk Demon- Lives of the thrill of gambling and other dangerous stuff
We get to see crossover characters from Void. Okay, more like characters crossed-over to Void from here but, OMG I thought Devicka's mom was innocent and changed only after her powers were gone but, guess not.
I actually really like 'dad' Risk from Void and it was kinda weird seeing him romance Motley but, okaaay.
I really want another book with both Devicka and Motley. Now.
Overall, a good read. And it's a standalone!!! A supernatural standalone!! Definitely recommend it.
Not reading blurbs beforehand sometimes works in my favor. I’m so glad I skipped that step because this book completely took me by surprise and I loved it. Going in I expected a more comedic tone given Raven Kennedy’s precious style with the Cupidity series, boy was I wrong. Compared to that series I can definitely agree this is more on the realm dark and disappointing. Disappointing because these characters cannot seem to get a break. Every time something goes there way or the heroine gets a sliver of much needed revenge more shit is thrown at them. The story itself was brilliant and the details made it standout on its own bringing originality to a overused Supernatural Academy trope with some forced captivity and experimentation thrown in. The heroine was a true badass as were her mates, I just wish they could have gotten a break more often than they did. Absolutely great read that blew me away over and over and had me on the edge of my seat though I warn u the book will possibly enrage your inner Hulk or sex Goddess 😂😂
Not my favorite but ok. I can't say I truly enjoyed this read like I did void. I got very bored with this book and found myself skipping towards the end. I wanted more fight, more badass but I got a girl fighting everything but what she should have been fighting. I found black widow weak, and I found myself really tired of her. I didn't really find her mates strong besides risk. I wanted them to fight tooth and nail but they were so subdued and I just couldn't take it. I found myself aggravated throughout this read. Fair book but nothing to brag about for sure
This was a great addition to this world and it's characters. And while this book takes place before Void, it didn't feel like going backwards like sometimes happens when stories are told this way. And I really loved that it didn't have that backwards feeling and could stand alone; so while you could read the 2 books in any order if you wanted too the ending of this one does give you a peek at characters from the first book good so if you want nothing ruined I'd say definitely read them in the order they came out. That being said you can't go wrong with either as they are both great paranormal reverse harem stories with plenty to keep you hooked. This book in particular had maybe a little more general darkness. It definitely almost had me in tears and feeling wrath-ful & vengeful. But it also made me feel more like sympathy, happiness and passion; it all balanced out in the end. I loved how strong Motley was as well as her unashamedly being herself for the good and bad. She was also brave I her own ways as well as loyal and caring. And I loved even more how when one member of her or her harem strength failed they were all there to shore each other up this was a beautiful dimension to the group dynamic on top of Not sexy times. I loved the individuality of each of her men but I won't delve to much into their details I'll let you call in love with them yourselves. Just now they are each unique and we'll developed characters. Now there was a surprise piece of jewelry one of the men had in this story I also loved and hope this author brings it into other stories. That being said I really hope we get more stories with these characters (new or old) and this world because it's so full of interesting individuals and tales. I can't wait to see what these authors dream up next. This was a great book with a HEA type ending that was perfect for these characters; would recommend.
Wow what can I say. This blew me away. I loved it. It's dark and dangerous but it worked so well. I loved the idea of the demons and how they had to fight from the start of the book. The characters went so well together. There was angst all the way through the book. So many favorite scenes. The one that will stay with me was when her demon took over after her aunt. I think that part will give me nightmares for awhile. I wish this one was a series as I'm not ready to leave this world yet.
Read in one go so no sleep for me. I loved it but it’s one of those ones I’ll never bring myself to read again. Not an academy, just a messy graduation that leads to demonic possession and experimentation.
There are a lot of monsters in this one and I don’t mean the demons. Apart from the demons everyone is vile. Trigger warnings (but not the harem), torture and a lot of death and general lack of morality. Add bullying in as well (but not from the harem).
As bad as the treatment is Motley is a strong mc and her harem are the same. I loved Crow, Tomb and Risk. What they go though did make me a little ragey. Does contain little spoilers from Void which I’ll be reading next.
I knew with both Raven and Coralee as the writers, that Wicked Webs was going to be good. But wow!!! Freaking Amazing!! These two ladies alone are awesome authors, together a power house!!
In Wicked Webs we have vamp Motley, through trickery is forced in a ritual. One that combines her with a demon. And not just a low level demon, but a dangerous black widow. There she is experimented on, poked and prodded. Bringing out the demon in her when she feeds. Because not only does she need blood, but she also needs her lovers essence. That's right, her lovers die. There are others there like her. Forced to accept a demon. But along the way she gets help, one from a hybrid who can control crows, a gargoyle and a risk demon. Together they are going to bring this Spector Inc burning to the ground.
Wicked Webs was such a good surprise. Set as a prequel to Void, i was so excited for this, we get to see Devicka and how she was born. The epiloge at the end was epic, full circle. Motely and her guys Risk, Tomb and Crow. Their story was a wild ride, filled with twists and turns, passion, love and protectivness. I would 100% recommend this series!!!
Imagine being possessed by a black widow who likes to feed from sex. (I cant think of anything better!!!) Get your towels and tissues out ladies cause your going to need them!
Tomb...gaaaaah he is my Gritt. Crow.....love those birdies! Risk.....gotta take a risk sometimes!
And poor old Motley....'Sometimes connections were bred from tragedy.'
I was at 50% before I knew it. And it all became clear. Then 87%, then 100%. The whole book in 1 sitting and all I could think was.....genius! Absolute genius! And I want more!
Wicked Webs is an interesting read, it's not without the cliches of this genre but it's still a decent read especially if you like standalones.
The story starts off pretty simple; a clear cut establishment of the motives, intro to recurring set of side characters that will be seen and just getting to know our FMC. Now if you haven't read Void, the introduction to this world may seem lacking and I feel it is lacking for supposedly giving us a gist of supernatural world involved even if I have read Void. The premise itself is not bad and frankly the whole prison/lockup kind of thing seems to be the next academy style trope shit that's going to be trendy for RH. The scenes in the prison/lab/whatever itself weren't overtly graphic so even if there is torture or cruelty, it's glossed over so it doesn't get too dark or heavy.
Being a standalone, there is substantially a lot more pages involved to give us a complete book but there are certain points where it feels rushed or just less put together. The way things snapped together for Risk leaves less impact than for say her relationship with Tomb. Crow was somewhere in between. The end confrontation with the bad guy or her father needed a little more space to feel satisfactory for the shit they did. The whole way the climax played out is very much reminiscent of Void and again being a standalone comes at a cost of feeling like it lacks that punch.
Motley was a nice balanced character, she was strong but not stupid and so unlike Devicka from the Void, thank God. I couldn't handle another self sacrificing pushover lead. Her harem guys were not that fleshed out but their interactions always flowed well and successfully conveyed the chemistry. Of course there is lots of humping happening and insta connections but I didn't feel bored. Other characters are sparse but still seen from time to time. I wished the epilogue had given me an actual interactive scene between Devicka and Motley, I think it would have been nice to see.
In the end, I liked this story better than Void even if there is more humping involved. There are moments in this book that really hooked me into the story but then again some of the brushed over shit holds it back from completely wowing me.
It took a while for the story to ramp up, I don't think the heroine Motley met the first guy until 18%? But there's a lot of plot set up that has to happen first. Basically she's a bastard vampire with no prospects given a mysterious "internship" that turns out to be... bad.
Books that are set inside prisons or prison-like settings are rough for me and I didn't check the summary before I started reading. I didn't buy into the romance because frankly there was more action than relationship building and the romance relied on sex scenes and the concept of mates > everything. The ending was really unsatisfying but I think it's to because this storyline (of Motley + the guys) will be briefly mentioned in the next book, Void.
TW non/dub con perpetrated by heroine... it's complex and is a spoiler but: , torture
One single sentence (in the damn epilogue of all things) prevented me from rating this book 5stars instead of 4. I was tempted to give the overall book a 3 star rating just because of this damn epilogue but didn't because I did enjoy this book aside from this. I wish I hadn't even read the epilogue.
Here was pissed me the hell off in the epilogue: slight spoiler ahead
So Risk had other children? that he has little to nothing to do with...…….was it because they weren't as special as his little void child? I just thought this was tacky and ruined his character to me. Even the heroine in this story had issues with her dad not claiming her. If the author took out this one part of the epilogue it would have easily been a 5 star read for me. I was beyond furious that at the very ending Risks character was ruined for me. Just my opinion.
Ahhh, for real. I’m obsessed. CoraLee June and Raven Kennedy have created such a beautiful world where Wicked Webs and Void reside. The character building and storytelling are on another level!
Motley is... perfect???? And I love her so much??? Tomb and Crow captured my heart so easily too, I never even stood a chance. And Daddy Risk? Yes please. I’ve always had a spot in my heart for him, but getting to know him more has just cemented that spot. These four are amazing.
I love this world SO much and it is so unique. I’ll always crave more!
What a great author. I could easily see place this book could have been chopped up into multiple books but thankfully the author(s) didnt do that.
This book is jammed packed full of story. Motley is a great female lead (FL) with all normal reactions and no crying at the drop of a hat. Her love interest(s) are great (personally wish there were a few more) and the ending could have been a separate book where you read about their day-to-day stuff but I also understand that you are just ready to write something else.
Highly Recommend!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love how this tells us why Devickas dad wasn’t around. I loved this and can’t wait to read more about this world and all of these characters. I’m not a huge fan of re-reading books but.... I feel like I want to re-read Void now that I know a little more backstory!!
I like these two authors separately but together??? They make a dynamic duo.
THE BADDEST BITCH!! YUP YUP YUP COME ON WIDOW!!! YUP!!! I LOVED this book so damn much ugh. I cant believe 18 years passed in the real world and it was only a matter of months for them in the between lmao not at Devicka's step mother only being 20 years old 😭😭😭. Anyways I love Motley so much shes such a bad ass this book had its faults obviously but It was pretty good
I typically don’t like stand-alone anymore since I don’t think you can tell a story that well but DANG was this stand-alone perfect. This has everything I didn’t know I needed and then some. It was a great story and had a great ending.
I loved seeing that side of Risk!!! My only complaint is that I wanted more scenes of them all together and to learn more about the guys! Otherwise, I really liked this book!
I liked the succubus-style implementation of the 19-yr-old FMC Motley Coven's black widow demon, the fast-paced action, and the smutty scenes, but I had lots of other issues with the book.
I found Motley's personality to dramatically swing between OP-as-heck and TSTL. She stands up for herself, and then I'm like YES, KICK ALL THEIR ASSES, but then she suddenly changes into this meek scared character again and goes along with her prison guards. You would think after putting some fear into the guards about consequences with messing with her would teach her to stop letting them walk all over her. The training scenes were the most frustrating since she just let them exhaust her completely and obediently followed their instructions.
While I loved any mention of Crow and Tomb and their protective natures, that was basically all we ever learned about them. They were separated from Motley for a significant portion of the book and only managed to come back into the picture when Motley got herself into deadly trouble and needed saving either physically or through feeding. And even then, I found Tomb to be a terrible gargoyle demon - he can turn his skin to stone - why the heck didn't he just stay as a stone, and it would block the researchers from poking and prodding and decapitating him???
Risk was the most fleshed out of the harem, and we really got to see his personality shine. He is the main tie-in with the main Void Universe book Void about his daughter. It was nice seeing his daughter's origins and what Risk was really doing while his daughter was growing up, but it honestly didn't seem to match up with the type of personality we saw in the dialogue in Void. I did enjoy his bad-assery in this book though and had no complaints.
Lastly, the whole concept of conscripting graduating Academy students of influential couples to become hybrid demons without any public outrage was rather ridiculous. Absolutely none of these kids had loving or protective parents that would want to check up on their kids? I understand blackmailing the kids with their family to make them obedient, but you'd think that the outside family would make more of a ruckus about their kid's prison research situation. And plus, so many of them died in the original ritual... not all of them could have been orphans or had parents that didn't care about them. @_@
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, but there were too many plot holes and lack of character development of main characters that significantly bothered me to rate this more than a 3 star. I would appreciate any future novels in the universe though!
We need more books in this series and wayyyy more in this genre. Please!
Power didn’t make a monster. A monster made itself.
Utter perfection, well-paced and well-balanced between all four characters. I like how much time they contributed to certain side characters as well such as Motley's brother and her father, even Devicka's mother.
I kept referring back to Void when I got this hunch who Risk might be and when I finally joined the dots, I was even more interested to read about him as a character with his own story. It also explained a lot of my concerns I had from Void as I used to wonder why Devicka's father is not more supportive.
Raven Kennedy and Coralee June are already great authors but they become super extraordinary when they come together to pen down some of the most amazing stories I've ever read. They balance so many tropes and genres into a single plot-line without making it too convulated and still as engaging for the readers.
We definitely need more this duo and they need to establish more stories in this universe!
Oh, I REALLY liked Wicked Webs! Those who read Void, and loved it, will freaking love this prequel novel. I want to slap myself upside my head wen I didn't realize the connection it had with it in the middle of the book, but don't worry, the authors know that some of us can be a bit dim and spelled it out for us thoroughly at the end!
This book was just wow. It is a reverse harem paranormal romance with violence, heartache, awesomeness, HOTNESS, and so much heart. There are some freaking things though, like the fact that our leading lady is freaking infused with a spider demon inside of her-- INSIDE of her. I liked this weirdness though and freaking loved reading it! So, all in all, if you like RH paranormal new adult dark romances, Wicked Webs is a MUST READ for you. Then you need to read Void if you haven't already! :)
PS: I received an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!
Umm..I’m not sure how to rate this one. Half the book I was saying “what the eff am I reading”. Motley is a vampire possessed by a demon that’s a black widow spider. Yeppers..a spider. It’s perfect for October. If I got past her being a spider, the story and the writing is fantastic. AND.....You gain more insight into Void(seriously loved that book).
