They won't stop until they have me at their mercy.
All three of them want me gone.
Out of the way.
But first, they want me in their beds.
Each of them.
One by one.

But what happens if I deny them?

If I’m going to find my parents, I need to play by the rules...
by breaking them along the way.
After all, to the Kings of Guardian,
I am delicious prey.

This book had a lot of potential. Didn't quite manage to get there, but I can see the seeds.

Also, I've noticed that when it comes to a pair of authors, I find that I really like the books they write together - e.g. Raven Dark/Petra Knox, Caroline Peckham/Susanne Valenti, Jaymin Eve/Jane Washington - but I don't like their individually written books. Does anyone else feel that way?

Anyway, a summary of everything I liked and disliked about this one:

✔️ Quite good writing. Yes, there were a fair number of typos, but the writing wasn't stilted and it flowed well in general.

✔️ Heroine Sam had some nice one-liners.

✔️ Sexual-harassment type bullying, which is my favourite kind to read about (cf. Sam Mariano's Untouchable. This book didn't do it as well as that one does, but I still quite liked it.

❌ The world-building, f*ck, it was AWFUL. Really bad. Heroine goes to this 'Guardian University' (which incidentally couldn't decide if it wanted to be a university or just an academy, what university do you know restricts its students' movements?). Anyway, we don't see a SINGLE one of the classes she takes, or learn ANYTHING AT ALL about this paranormal world she enters. We see that vampires and werewolves exist, but basically nothing else. There's a scene where the heroine is researching what type of supernatural creature she might be, and it would've been a good moment for the author to teach us about the types which exist in this world, but she just totally skimmed past it. It feels like the heroine exists in a void.

❌ The book feels a bit too derivative of stuff I've read before. Like, there's a guy called Lance who calls the blue-haired heroine Blue... that's literally Zodiac Academy, where the hero Lance Orion calls Darcy Blue because of her hair. And one magical symbol mentioned in this book is a triangle with a circle and line inside it, which is LITERALLY the sign of the Deathly Hallows! A lot of the book felt Harry Potter-ish and not in a good way.

❌ There is basically zero character development of anybody. It's particularly bad with the 'Queens', your average mean girls. They're soooooooo cliched it actually hurts to read. They try to kill the heroine by beating her almost to death and it's just... make them actual humans, please, spend some time building up their backstories instead of just using paper-thin cutouts who are jealous. These Queens do everything - they're evil antagonists, they provide a bit of OW drama, etc - and a lot more needed to be done with their characters, if the author was going to use them this much.

❌ For the most part, I was meh on the romance - the guys are alright, not much to them. BUT one of them knew the heroine would be beaten up by the other girls and really likes that thought. ?????? For my bully heroes, I draw the line at them allowing physical violence to be perpetrated on the heroine by someone who's not them (weird line, I know, whatever) and I did not like this.

❌ Also, this book was way too long. Could've been cut in half and the amount of plot kept intact.

I will be reading the sequel, but not sure if I'll make it much beyond that.

Raven Dark has done a fantastic job of creating a Dark Paranormal RH bully romance that I just could not put down. I am a huge fan of her Saving Setora series, so I knew going in that I would enjoy this so very much, I just did not realize I twould enjoy it this much. I do belive that this series is set to become one of my favorites.

One night while Samantha, her mom and dad were watching a movie. When suddenly there is a vertex that opens, and sucks her mom through. Her dad refusing to let go followed her. This has shaped Samantha. Determined to find her parents one day, but moving on with her life. She finds herself at a Universtity with her best friend. One night while at a game, her best friend is attacked and killed by a wolf. She is saved just in time by Lance, who used magaic. She follows him to Guardian Universtiy where she is opened up to a whole new world she did not know exsisted but could very well help her find her parents.

The writing was so well done on this, that I honeslty felt like I was watching a movie. I loved Samantha and her fire!! She was so much fun to read about. The guys are in the love to hate them catagory, but will that change?

There is some possible triggers so please be aware. But Raven did an excellent job of writing them in such a way, knowing when to give a break and when to press. She is such a great writer when it comes to knowing how to write such dark reads. When to press issues and when to go easy. A talented writer to keep everything even.

So with a great plot, fantastic imagery, engaging characters, a could not put down pace, and one of the better bully reads I have read. Prey is just what you need if you are looking for a good Academy bully romance.

Warning therapy needed

The story is fantastic; the characters mysterious. Except...the predictable weak heroine who occasionally attempts to be strong but wimps out every time with self doubt and naivety. A bit of a spoiler this part so ignore. The author makes weak justifications for the heroine's favorable reaction to the men's brutal treatment and abuse. they are supposedly the good guys but show no remorse and their reasons for treating her horribly are ambiguous. All the main characters will have to have a full lobotomy to make any of them really likeable...which sadly does not happen in this first book.
Overall the world is fascinating but the behavioral patterns are a bit unrealistic and could have been handled more convincingly. As much as I hate the main character, I am still intrigued where this story will go so ...perhaps it's worth a next installment.

I really wanted to like this book because it's been difficult to find a good bully reverse harem lately. I don't mind the dark elements of this book or even how the guys treat her, I mind that heroine is so weak. If you are going to have guys who are sexist, rude, pushy, and include sexual assault bullying, you need a heroine who is strong, confident, and sassy. I want to see the back and forth, the fighting, the tension..That's the making of a wildly passionate and interesting story. Otherwise, you have a girl who has men relentlessly and harshly bullying her and she's taking it all without any fight because they're hot. That is not enough of a reason imo. Also, some rationale as to why the bullies are the way they are or some depth to them, such as conflicted feelings, makes them able to be redeemed later. As of now I'm not sure how the author will redeem these characters without making them into different people.

Kudos for the exciting way this book starts out, with a family watching TV together. Yet something is wrong, something is about to happen, and all the signs were there – but no one said anything and only the mother seemed to know. The description continues, minute-by-minute as the tension rises and the painting on the wall begins to shake. Interspersed with the detailed narration of the mundane things, little reminders of the tension were given so that the reader doesn’t relax, knows there is something big about to happen and is waiting with the young girl, Sam, sitting between her parents on the couch eating popcorn. The lights and TV went out, a thunderous boom sounded, and a swirling hole opened up in the room. Her mother tries to save her and her father, but he wouldn’t let go of her hand as the vortex pulls and both are sucked in as the vortex slams shut leaving their daughter alone in the now quiet house. Wow!

The vivid descriptive writing in this book is impressive, right from the first page and continuing on through. Now the search for her parents is renewed as an icy sensation creeps up Sam’s spine throughout the day, an acute awareness of danger that sparks and then disappears. Guardian University, a school for the supernaturally gifted, may be the only way to find her parents now.

I can’t say that I like the bullying and other such overt aggression of the “kings of the school”, but the writing itself is really good and full of suspense. It hooks the reader and keeps the pressure on as we are unsure of Sam’s powers and how they will manifest themselves. The overall tone of mystery keeps the reader intrigued all the way. If you like shivers and excitement, this book is worth the read!

Samantha is at her job at the library when someone rams into her. He is a gorgeous jerk that tries to play off she stole his special pen. He makes her very uncomfortable and he speaking in a strange tongue. Finally the head librarian and her best friend show up towards the end. The guy leaves after trying to smooth things to the head librian.
Carley and Sam plan to go to Carley's boyfriend's game. Samantha really doesn't want to go but she will not let them down. She can deal with a bit of social anxiety.
Will the girls are alone in the restroom, Carley is attacked and killed. Samantha savior is the guy from the library. He is treating her terribly. He waits for his headmister to come to speak to Samantha.
They take her to the Guardian University, Samantha likes it is all a big mistake. Miss Primrose and Lance keeps saying they feel her power.
Samantha's life at the university will be even worse than any foster home she every dealt with.
The Kings and The Queens of the school are torturing her, will even put her life in danger more than once. The Kings will have their way with her, even though part of Samantha doesn't want it.
Will Samantha survive the people at school to find out what she is. What is after her.

This is a very well written story, that does has some dark and steamy themes. Those themes do not take away from plot and seeing how Samantha is will grow and survive. Can't wait for book 2 to see more about Samantha's powers, will these guys stop bullying her and start to show more.

Wow wow wow! Must Read!

Prey by @ravendarkauthor
📖📚 Samantha's life is torn upside down when her parents are taken. Especially when they were taken by a giant, gaping, blue lighted whirlpool hole in her own living room. Yeah.. crazy huh? Years later, Samantha is given (was there a choice?) the opportunity to follow through a hole just like it, and begin the hunt for her parents. The only way to do that though, is to attend Guardians University... where the school "Kings" aren't too happy to welcome her. Intent of making her life hell, the Kings put her in impossible situations, humiliate and persecute her, but the prize of answers will not deter her, no matter the consequences.
📖📚 Ohhhh this is such a good read! It's got a badass MFC ✅ Bully trope ✅ wonderfully dark ✅ seriously hot alpha arseholes ✅ steamy scenes so hot they'll melt your tablet ✅ amazing plotline ✅ it's got it all! There is so so much in this book, so many questions unanswered but so many delicious titbits to keep you intrigued. I fell headfirst into this world, swept in and I cant get it out my head! I devoured every page, needing to find out more! There were so many twists, totally unpredictable, giving my poor heart a total workout with the ups and downs and gasps and "nooooo!". I cant reccomend this book enough- and I cannot wait for more! 5*

Don't Miss Out

Samantha, has loving and devoted parent's who love her. Sitting In front of the TV, something unspeakable happens, and Sam loses both parents. Samantha goes from one foster home into another, rest of her childhood.

Samantha goes to college, she is a sophomore, feels alone, except for two friend. One night at a Friday night football game, the unspeakable happens. Samantha's world changes...again.

Samantha is in a world she does not recognize, surrounded by the Supernatural Samantha doesn't understand. Instantly, Samantha starts getting bullied by three female's and three males, along with the verbal abuse by the students...except one person steps up to become Samantha's friend and ally.

I am going to stop there so I don't give anything away. Samantha is strong, independent, witty, intelligent. The MC want to hate Samantha, but secretly they adore her.

If you have never read a book from Raven Dark, you are missing out! Raven Dark will intrigue you and take you on a journey where you feel like you are standing in front of the characters.

Samantha Hollow hasn't had the best of childhoods. Left an orphan when her parents disappear into a black hole . She's left wondering what happened to them. She wont know until she begins her journey into what seems to be the same dark hole that brings her to the Kings of Guardian University and the truth about what she really is .
Great storytelling by the author .This was exciting and my first Bully . the author pulled me right into a new realm .
I do warn that there was some triggers I faced reading this book , but thought the author did an amazing job knowing when a break was needed. I think It also made me rally behind the heroin by feeling her pain on a much deeper level. It's not easy for Sam especially when three paranormal Hot guys with upper rank decide it's their job to find out what she is at any costs .... Sexy!!!
I Never thought a Bully novel could be so Hot , but I cant wait to find out what happens next.

Samantha lost her parents to something evil in another demention danger stalks her even while at college and death waits for her. Then she ends up at a mysterious school and she puts up with bullying three guys who want to punish her and want to control her. But with and even worse fate coming for her she needs to find her power or everything will disappear. That being said its a bully romance but its more about the bullying write now. I'm sure as the story continues and the plot develops the characters themselves will evolve so if your looking for light steamy reverse harem book this isn't it. Theres plenty of steam and there allot of people doing bad things not to mention there is a cliffhanger one that will have me reading the second book when it comes out.

This is a long story - over 600 pages. It is definitely a RH bully romance. There is action and the some scenes verge of forced s3x. The aggression of the three makes is very difficult to take some times. There is a lot of hate directed at the MC. The plot is good, though the excuse if being at a school almost seems secondary as Sam really doesn't send any time in classes, neither do the guys. The main plot seems to be figuring out what kind of "Super" she is and some kind of secret the guys and headmistress know. I think it will shake up to be a good series of it doesn't continue to waste pages on extraneous storylines.

This is the first book that I've read by Raven Dark. Wow, couldn't put it down. Great characters, and a story that pulls you in with each shaking of the house. This is also my first bullies book. Sam is trying to find her parents that disappeared in a vortex that sucks both parents out of the house and leave Sam sitting on the couch by herself. She is trying to learn about her powers and the school she attends has mean girls and bully boys. I can't wait until the next book. Usually I don't do cliffhangers but this was so good that I will get the next book. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book although it did contain some ‘trigger’ situations. The book was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I enjoyed the different strong character personalities and their relationship dynamics. The story was action packed and full of intrigue, suspense, emotion, hot chemistry and romance. I look forward to future books in this series and would highly recommend this book!! I would however be aware that there are trigger subjects and situations which some might wish to avoid.

This was my first bully romance, and I have to say, it was pretty good! There were times that I felt like the description of the scene was a bit lacking and there could have been a bit more world building. But I really liked the storyline and the characters, especially the main female character. Sam was quick whitted and sharp, but not so over-the-top to the point of annoying and immature. Rather I found her likeable and relatable. I definitely had a love/hate relationship with the guys, who were smoking hot, by the way. The book reminded me of a mix between Sabrina and The Magicians, so if you enjoyed those shows, you'll love this book. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Samantha hasn't had an easy life. She has been tossed from foster home to foster home. Just when she finally has some freedom in her life her past catches up to her. She's thrown in to a supernatural academy knowing nothing about supernaturals. The Kings and Queens of the academy are not nice people. There is some trouble in store for her now.

I loved this story and the concept. I love how Samantha doesn't give up even though she's been through and still going through hell. I can't wait to read more of this story.

The imagination of this world is breathtaking, the FMC is confident but confused, the male MCs are evil but can't seem to understand why they are acting as protective as they are and the real bad guys are truly evil.
Oh and there are even steamy scenes to satisfy us who need them (they are slightly dark so be sure to keep that in mind.
This is a definite read for anyone who loves PNR RH Bully.

Raven Dark is one of the best reverse harem authors out there. This in particular is a dark paranormal bully reverse harem romance. After her parents are suddenly sucked into a magic portal when she's a child, spends her whole life wondering what happened. Gets the chance to find out if she stays in PARA, a different world and the location of Kings of Guardian University.

Wow!!!!!

Awesome book!!!! I was pulled into it immediately because of the great characters and fantastic storyline! The world building was really good and of course mean girls you love to hate! Sam, our heroine, is really likable and I’m hoping some of the mystery surrounding her is solved in the next book. I’ll definitely be looking out for book 2!

For my first “bully” romance, the bar has been set sooooo high. Not for the faint of heart. But some girls just love a meany, and this book has three !
10/10 fuck yeah.

This was a good book with lots of potential in future books. I like how it started, literally sucked me in. Our girl had a tough life. Which just makes me wish she’d been tougher and stood up better for herself. I also think the book could have been shorter and not list anything. That being said, I like the overall dark feel and premise of this book and will definitely read the next one.
