She wants only him… For as long as she can remember, Poppy has loved only one man. Devon Wallace has been her knight in shining leather ever since he rescued her from a date gone wrong. She can’t envision a future without him, but she’s convinced he still thinks of her as the pesky twelve-year-old who used to follow him around.
He can have anyone but her… Devon "Sparky" Wallace has spent the better part of a decade trying to keep his hands off his uncle’s step-daughter, Poppy, and living by the code of the brotherhood. He’s not about to break the rules, no matter how much he fantasizes about the sexiest woman on the planet.
But when her connection to him puts her life in jeopardy, he must figure out a way to save her without breaking the club’s code, even if that means losing her forever.
New York Times & USA Today Bestselling Author Piper Davenport writes from a place of passion and intrigue, combining elements of romance and suspense with strong modern-day heroes and heroines.
She currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with her author husband, Jack Davenport, and an obnoxious YorkiePoo named Pepper who may or may not be an international spy.
Liked it better than the last book but didn’t love it. Second generation and hatch and Maisie who I loved, have supportive role in their daughter Poppy’s and devons romance. Loved the whole dog chapters involvement in the war, but my irritant again similar to previous story is poppy constantly challenging Devon for attention whilst in the middle of war. For girls brought up in the club would have thought them to be more aware and supportive with the mothers they had. That said love this author and will still read her books.
I absolutely love this series! Sparky (Devon Wallace) is about as perfect as it gets! And Poppy is sassy and a great mix of her mom and Sid (stand-in dad). Great story and I can't wait to read Grace's story!
This book was originally titled The Longing. We first met Poppy and Devon when they were young in Road to Peace. They have each been harboring feelings for the other, but Devon feels she is off limits because of her connection to his uncle. There is trouble brewing with the club, and Devon is caught between his girl and his club. I loved Devon’s protectiveness, but he was over the top on occasion. I really felt Poppy’s frustration a time or two. There is a fair bit of intrigue and some very tense moments on their road to HEA. I really loved this story and all of the Dogs of Fire books.
Previously published as The Longing, the second book in the Dogs of Fire: Wolfpack Series by Piper Davenport. These books focus on the second generation of the Dogs of Fire MC. We first met Poppy in Road to Peace, which is her mom, Maisey, and Hatch's story. Poppy was a young pre-teen at the time, and her spunky personality endeared her to me then. She was sweet, and loving, and very accepting of her mom's new relationship, as well as all of the Dogs of Fire. Devon is the son of Hatch's brother, and was also mentioned in Road to Peace. As Poppy and Devon grew up together, a close friendship formed, along with feelings on both sides that were ignored. Both have their own reasons, and eventually, Poppy goes away to college with her best friend. Misunderstandings, and their own stubbornness, leads to a degradation of their friendship.
Poppy is a strong young woman, and has put up with a lot from Devon. She has no clue what is going on with him, or why he acts the way he does. She has a great outlook on life, knows what she wants, but hasn't been able to get Devon to see things her way.
Devon is so stubborn! He has it in his mind that things should be one way, and won't deviate from that.
I enjoyed this book, even more than Maisey and Hatch's book. There is lots of action, as well as enough laughs to keep the story moving. I love visiting with old "friends" from previous books, and there was plenty of that here!
Although this book is part of a series, as well as being connected to a previous series, it can be read alone. However, reading the other books in both series makes the story much more enjoyable.
Love Devon! I really like poppy but there were times that she was very annoying and I just wanted to shake the crap out of her. Like once things were cleared up and you find out everyone’s real feelings. Ok yes she had a reason to feel snubbed and hurt so her attitude was some what warranted but still juvenile. But she grew up under hatch (step dad) so all her pissy snits about being mad about Devon not caring enough about her to tell her where he is or what’s going on is ridiculous because she should know by know he can’t talk about those things after growing up with hatch for a decade. So her tantrums were a bit much sometimes. Yes she had a right to be worried and they are understandable scary times but she should know better than grill him and get kissed about no answers. But I did love how he is with her. Such steamy moments. Love it!! He is total book boyfriend material, all grisly alpha and sweet to her. Love!
I’m have really liked all the books this far but this one was a huge disappointment. We have been getting glimpses of the relationship between Poppy and Devon since we learned about poppy in Maisie and Hatch’s story. Then we learned even more with Lily and Maverick. So for all that build up this book was very disappointing.
For starters their relationship was tumultuous since they were younger being in love but too paranoid and scared to admit it so how after almost a decade or more of attitudes and arguments does it take a few simple words to now be all in. For Devon to say that she was off limits and then proof no she isn’t it was very rushed.
The drama that ensued in this book was creative I will say that but the way it ended was so abrupt and for someone who has been waiting to hear the story between these two I was thoroughly unimpressed and the leg down has me thinking twice about continuing on with the series.
LOVE this series! Really, all the Piper Davenport series because they're all the best kind of connected. And we've been watching the Devon/Poppy thing percolate for a while, so I was happy their book had arrived! *grin* Poppy is a biiiit whiny & ... not selfish, exactly, but some of the things she expects from Devon surprised me, considering she grew up in the Club.
Other than that slight hiccup, I really loved both Devon & Poppy, and I REALLY LOVED seeing their relationships w/ Hatch & Maisie... Hatch, or Sid as Poppy calls him, is one of my favorite characters of this author! There's also some action going down w/ the Club & Devon's solution to being outnumbered was really pretty brilliant!
Very enjoyable segment to this world, and I'm SUPER looking forward to Jasmine & Alamo's story!
Romance genre: MC Series: Dogs of Fire Length: 207 pages
Plot: Poppy's mom is married to Devon's uncle, and because of that, no matter how much he's attracted to Poppy, Devon knows she's off-limits. But Poppy has been in love with him forever, and she is not going to let a little thing like family stand in her way! But when danger continues to swirl around them, what will Devon choose: the woman he loves, the club he belongs to, or his loyalty to his uncle?
Commentary: So I really refuse to believe that the FBI (or any other federal law enforcement agency) is going to work with the MC in a concerted effort to do something that the MC wants, It was just too far a stretch. It would have made more sense for the MC to be spying on the FBI investigation or for the MC to be working with another cub from the area. Poppy was somewhat ill-informed about the realities of club life for someone who had been a part of the club family for so long, and so she came across as whiny and needy (in a sort of new adult way, my least favorite trope!). It was nice to see Hatch and Maisie again though.
What a great read - we angst, romance, action and suspense.
This is the story of Devon and Poppy and their journey of love. It is not smooth road with obstacles thrown at them from many angles including family and enemies. You will fall in love with these characters and root for them every step of the way.
The Dogs of Fire are not a 1% club, but they will not turn their backs on injustices and when an enemy of the Savannah chapter rears it's ugly head again, the Dogs are prepared to fight back. Come along for the ride as Devon and Poppy find their way to each other while the club deals with trouble... you are not going to be bored!
To say that I loved this book is an understatement! I could not wait for Poppy and Devon's story and this did not disappoint. Poppy is my kind of heroine, she is smart, sassy, and funny. Devon is the perfect mix of Alpha and romantic biker. I read this book in almost one sitting, I laughed out loud and may have clapped with joy at some scenes. This book has so many great qualities, romance, action, just enough angst and humor. This book is apart of a series but can be read as a standalone. If you love MC books then this is your next 5 star read!
Just love Poppy! Poppy can curse with the best of the Dogs! If there is a rule to break she can do it! Poppy is so funny! Sparky is Poppy's man! Getting kidnapped by a "friend" is in so much left field! Hutch is poppy's dad and between the two of them they can keep Poppy's in the dark about the things and trouble Poppy gets into! This is a very good, and funny story and the characters come alive in the twist and turns in it! This is book 8 so I must go back and get the others!
Poppy fell in love when she meet her stepdad’s nephew Devon. The became really close until she kissed him. Now she is getting ready to graduate from college and they run into each other again. Can they clear up the misunderstanding of years ago. Will they be able to make a relationship work? Will her stepdad try to stop them? Will other bad guys try to tear them apart? Come take a ride and find out.
Road to Hope blew me away. It wasn't just the love and romance. It was the suspense, the thrills, the chills, the deviousness of some and the gall of the traitors.
The love within the pages has a been around for a long time. Devon and Poppy know the love that exists between them, but they also know the rules. Poppy is off limits. That is until Devon can stand up to her adopted dad. When he has the confidence to go after what he wants she will be his, but will he be able to keep her.
Poppy had known Devon for a long time. He became her hero when she was 11 years old. So as she was finishing college she gave her virginity to Devon. They had a lot in common, but he was in a motorcycle club. They were both in and were trying to decide how important the club really was.
Always a pleasure to read Piper Davenport. You get that yummy feeling when you read her MC stories. No exception this time. Kidnapping, trafficking, bullets flying all over the place and love once again survive the onslaught. Thank you Piper. I love your stoties
I loved this story. Its second generation Dogs of Fire as Devon is Hatch"s nephew and is patching in the club. Poppy is Maisi's daughter and Hatch is her SID (stand in Dad). Devon has grown up thinking Poppy was off limits but things are about to be changed. Piper Davenport wrote a terrific story again. Be prepared to be laughing one minute and holding back the tears the next and wanting to punch someone's lights out the next. I love her writing.
This is Poppy and Devon's story. A time of new beginnings, of hope and a threat. Each book in this series is a standalone tale. Romance, relationships, unique families of blood and of choice. Members of a motorcycle club whose members are protective, determined and caring. I love the series and each book just gets better. Bravo!!
Dogs of Fire book 8. A simply fabulous read. We have watched these 2 grow up. They have loved each other for what seems like forever. However the road to this love was forever taking detours. Now add some serious bad guys, an overprotective dad and a whole lot of WTF and you get this awesome book. Full of action, drama and angst plus oh so tingle worthiness.
I love the books in this series that have the kids all grown up and finding love (or acting on the love they’ve had for years) for themselves. Poppy and Devon grew up together and had strong feelings for each other that Devon knew he could never act on, thanks to a very protective SID and club rules. Then trouble strikes and their true feelings are tested.
Love the Dogs of Fire MC, always an exciting read. I absolutely loved Devon and Poppy’s story ❤️❤️❤️ always the right amount of drama, danger and chaos. A definite page turner and very entertaining. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you will not be disappointed 😎🖤
Hatch was my favorite out of all the dogs, not hard to tell why. To know that he raised Poppy to be her and to love who she loves no matter what just rocks! Poppy Devon are close to Hatch story story as my favorite ;)
Friends for years. They took the long way around to each other. This time around they are not walking away from each other. Betrayal in the club almost cost her her life. She will not give him up. Or loose him.or her dad. Good book.
(3.5) I was looking forward to Poppy's story and for some reason she came across needy and winy and I wasn't expecting that. I had trouble with it since she had grown up in the Club. Still an ok read.
Love Piper Davenport as always, but I have to admit this was not my favorite one in this series. I kinda wish there was more relationship development and growth as a couple. They kind of just are together finally.... but I loved seeing Hatch again!
Poppy has been in love with Devon since she met him at age 13 but their relationship needed time to develop. Now years later it’s their time but the Club is in trouble and Devon is torn but know Poppy is his all.
Alpha male who loves her but thinks he can’t have her. She has only loved him but can’t help but hate him for pushing her away. They do find their way to each other in their MC world when danger comes knocking.
Another gripping story with substance. Each book is different but it still follows up from the previous books. They are written so well that they are also good as a stand alone.
