Dirty Jobs #1

The Librarian and the Janitor

Rate this book

Having a dirty job has never felt so good...

The Librarian

Now in my thirties, I've accepted that a mousy librarian like me probably won't meet the man of my dreams or have exotic sex. Not everyone can be a sex kitten, unfortunately. But, late at night, when I shelve the erotica books at the library, I can certainly skim the pages and get lost in the fantasy...

The Janitor

I never dreamed of cleaning for a living, but my brother and I stumbled into running the most lucrative custodial business in town. In fact, we're so busy that I've been covering the night shift at the local library myself. Imagine my surprise when I discover the cute, quiet librarian pleasuring herself in the erotica section. Man, my night just got a whote lot hotter...

Like all of Victoria's books, the plot is short and sweet, the steam is heavy and there’s a guaranteed HEA. I mean, sometimes a girl just needs a quick, sultry novella, right?

The Dirty Jobs series is comprised of short erotic novellas. They can all be read as stand-alones. Themes include rough sex and dirty words. Please don't read this book if these themes are uncomfortable or triggering.

Clean Up in the Stacks

Victoria Silk Dirty Jobs bk 01 The Librarian and the Janitor

3.5 stars - Luke may be a tad too alpha at times, but I did like this. It's incredibly over-the-top as Luke commands Sara to do naughty things with barely any interaction before the first encounter. And then they get into even more dirty, scorching fun.

I listened to the audio book while reading along. The narrator is Ri Paige. I enjoyed listening to her.

You should absolutely judge this book by its cover. 🤭

I read this for the “teehee!” value when I wanted a smutty palate cleanser, and it was just what I needed.

Will it win any literary awards? Was there meaningful relationship or character development? These are the wrong questions.

This was fun enough. It being so short didn’t really do it any favours but I enjoyed myself nonetheless. I’d say the only thing that bothered me was the authors overuse of adjectives, it’s all I could pay attention too. Just calm down a bit, yeah?

Fun listen for my evening commute home!! About an hour and ten minute audiobook. It was extremely over the top and the heroine was very shy and meek. I love a man who knows how to take control in the bedroom and Luke delivered !! What I didn’t care for is that he got bootyball naked inside of a library are you serious ?! Even with this being fiction respect the books humans !! But this book was freaking spicy guacamole for my earholes and it kept me awake for my 12:30 am drive !!

If you like overly detailed smut in your ears, then this is for you. But when I say the detail was OTT, I mean it.

Short, easy reading, palette cleanser book. It's short erotica, so don't look for more than that. It did come with a happy ending and no drama. I'm not a fan of the name calling, even during sexy times, in any book, but that's just me.

Hot sex and dirty talk, what’s not to like? With such a short story there obviously wasn’t going to be any real plot, which is great because I just wanted some simple smut. The thing that did bring it down for me is something I guess some people want. The heroine is curvy, heavy, overweight (cool right? But no). In case you might have thought we are just talking slight curves, the “spare tire” and cellulite were pointed out. On every single page, usually 3-4 times per page. Weirdly it was “twenty pounds she needed to lose” because apparently that’s the exact point at which you go from being a bit curvy to fat. To top it off she was also described as mousy and plain. Instead of being a nice change up in body type for an erotic story heroine, the repeated harping on it (and the remarkably fit hero’s insistence that he found it sexy) came across as condescending. The dedication might as well have said “this one’s for all the pathetic girls in the audience!” As someone more than twenty pounds overweight, it didn’t feel like a validating story, but cheap pandering with underhanded compliments. It’s a shame because if that hadn’t constantly intruded, it would have been a hot little story.

The title says it all. A shy librarian and a sexy janitor. Pure smut and no plot which is nice when you just want to shut your brain off and not have to think. Spicy insta love with no angst, no cheating, and an HEA.

The Librarian and The Janitor is erotica at its best. A story guaranteed to turn you on and get you off.

Contrary to what many people believe, erotica and pornography aren’t the same thing. Pornography is nothing more than physical sex. Erotica is sex with a story to tell. The great erotica blends the two that you can’t tell where one ends, and the other begins. Awesome erotica, like The Librarian and The Janitor, tell stories of sexual encounters that are believable, sexual encounters that could happen in real life, so the temporary suspension of disbelief never becomes an issue.

Victoria Silk, that has to be a penname, is a rising star in the genre.

I liked the premise, but the writing was really tough to get through.
Most of the book was written in past first person tense and it did not read well.

This short piece of 40 pages is a quick, erotic read without any character development; therefore, as a reader, if you are looking for such, this novella is not for you. However, this might do the trick if you are looking for a smutty fix.

The characters introduced by Silk are barely plausible. Sara is a librarian shelving books after hours, and she gets all hot and bothered reading the erotica she’s supposed to be shelving; instead, she hikes up her skirt and takes matters into her own hands to release the building tension her naughty reading caused. But she forgot all about the night janitor.

Luke never thought that running the most lucrative cleaning business in town with his brother would land him here, at the local library, watching a sex goddess of a librarian getting herself off in the erotica section. He takes advantage of the situation and takes control. This character gives off creepy stalker vibes, and Sara is oblivious to it because of the “good ministrations” he gives her.

Silk’s novella was like two stick figures going at it like rabbits on steroids, making it impossible for readers to root for their relationship. It feels like Silk missed her mark in fleshing this one out. The writing itself is in the first person and gets hard to follow at times, and Sara’s naiveté about sexual safety is mindboggling and borderline dangerous. The implausibility of the situations, lack of character development, and the hard-to-follow writing made this a .5-star read.

Summary:
In The Librarian and the Janitor, we meet Claire, a mousy librarian who, despite her quiet and reserved demeanor, has a secret: late at night, she indulges in the fantasy world of erotica novels. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Noah, a hunky janitor who works the night shift at the library. After catching Claire in the act of pleasuring herself in the erotica section, Noah can't help but be intrigued. What follows is a steamy encounter between two people from completely different worlds, but with a whole lot of chemistry.

Review:
If you're looking for a quick, steamy escape that doesn't require much brainpower but delivers a whole lot of heat, this is the book for you. It's definitely a short, sultry novella that packs a punch, but with that comes a bit of a mixed bag in terms of characterization and body image portrayal. It’s exactly what you'd expect from the Dirty Jobs series: fun, raunchy, and easy to get through in one sitting.

And of course, Ri Paige's narration takes it up a notch, giving these characters even more life. Her delivery of the steamy moments was on point and made everything feel even more intense.

Would I Recommend It?
Yes, but with a warning. If you’re sensitive to body image themes or excessive focus on weight, this may not be for you. However, if you’re just looking for a short, fun, and super steamy novella with a happy ending, you’ll enjoy it.

I think why I read this is pretty obvious I'm not going to elaborate, it could have been better though but was decent for something so short.

If you’re in the mood for a quick, steamy escape with no time wasted on slow burns, The Librarian and the Janitor delivers exactly that. This short erotic audiobook dives headfirst into the spice, quickly turning an unexpected encounter into a whirlwind of insta-lust and insta-love.

Victoria Silk crafts a delightfully over-the-top dynamic between a shy, reserved librarian and a confident, dominant janitor who quite literally walks in at the right moment — and decides to lend a hand. It’s a bold, unapologetically smutty story that doesn’t try to be anything else, and that’s part of its charm.

Ri Paige does a fantastic job bringing both characters to life. Her performance captures the contrast between the librarian’s softness and the janitor’s assertive edge, keeping the heat high and the energy engaging throughout.

This audiobook is perfect for anyone looking for a fast-paced, spicy listen that doesn’t hold back. At under an hour, it’s a guilty pleasure you can enjoy in one sitting — and maybe even come back for seconds. 🥵

Recommended for: Fans of erotic short stories, high-heat romance, and dominant/submissive dynamics.

So, I’m kind of on the fence with this one. I listened to the audio version and honestly, Ri Paige was the highlight for me. I’ve heard her narrate before, and she’s fantastic, super engaging and really knows how to draw you into a scene. She definitely gave this short story a lot more life.

That said… the story itself fell a little flat for me. I love a steamy romance as much as the next person (and I mean really love), but I also like a little plot to go with all that heat. This one, The Librarian, was all steam, no substance. Maybe it’s just the nature of it being a short story, but I had a hard time getting invested in the characters or their connection.

If you're looking for a quick, no-strings-attached kind of read (or listen), this might hit the spot. The heat is definitely there. But if you want a little more depth or emotional buildup, this probably won’t be your favorite. Personally, I think I just needed more story, more development, more reason to care.

Still, shoutout to the narrator for making it an enjoyable listen despite the thin plot!

Fantasy come true by MeemsAngel82

This was a steamy little read and it featured two people who are very attracted to one another. Each are good people and a whole one, yes considering length of the book and the pacing. The story is a hot one and yet it's sweet as well. I thought this sounded interesting so I got this copy for free from Eden books. I volunteer to leave this review on my own.

He found her in a comprising position and enjoyed it. Could this be permanent?

And yes, it could be. I appreciate that we actually do get resolutions to feelings and a HEA. Also what a guy. He did not stop reassuring her that she is something special and worthy of anything and everything. The setting is hot and then they take their relationship out into the real world. I knew going in that this was short and I never compare one book to the other, nor it's length or category. Rather on it's own merit. This was a fun and steamy good time and since he DOES have a brother...guess we know what I'll be reading next, lol!

Short, stimulating with a great ending
My experience with short erotica is that they are not always edited well so this one really surprised me because it not only had an intriguing story but it was well written for its genre. I’m a sucker for a librarian who turns into a vamp for the right man and in this case the man is scrumptious and well off. Double winner!
Basically, when Luke the janitor catches Sara in a compromising situation, he is even more captivated than before. Although to the world at large she may appear to be just a chunky, mousy librarian with the customary “librarian glasses,” to Luke she may be more. Whoa! The things they get up to are scintillating. I may have to read more by this author in this series. I would like to know if Luke’s brother Zeke can win back Brittany. If you like lots of steam along with an interesting short story, read this book.

I will say, I did actually finish this a while ago. (like a month ago) and definitely forgot to leave a review here.

So, that's what I'm doing now.

This book was so cute and nice and spicy. I loved how the insta-love was done. I don't generally vibe with insta-love because it feels so unrealistic. But this one didn't feel rushed. It felt like they started with the lust but knew each other for a few days before getting to the love part. Instead of just loving each other that same day or the next day.

I found that much more palatable. And I gotta say, any book that has a librarian in it, especially one who gets her Os, I am going to love. So extra points for that.

It was short, easy, and quick to read and satisfying.

A short spicy read or an afternoon delight as I like to call them.

The Librarian and the Janitor would have been a better read for me had I read it instead of listening to it. Ri Page is not a bad narrator; they just aren't the narrator for me. I would like to clarify that difference. There is a difference between a poor narrator and a narrator who isn't for you. Ri just wasn't for me.

The story itself did what it was supposed to do. All of us readers have thought about what it would be like if someone took us in the way we craved whilst nestled in the book section. Our librarian just so happened to fulfill all of our dreams.

Someday down the road, I would happily continue the Dirty Jobs series. I just think I would prefer to read this series rather than listen to it.

Sara, the female lead, is working late as a librarian and takes a moment to enjoy herself in the erotica section. Luke, the male lead, is the co-owner of a janitorial company, cleaning her library because he’s short staffed. When he sees her, he approaches her but now they need to see if this is more than a hookup.

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a highly erotic contemporary romance. I enjoyed the intimate scenes and the trust they both gave in the moment. I understood Sara’s concerns and appreciated Luke’s follow up.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

(Review of audiobook version)
I now understand why I prefer to read my romance rather than listen to it.
First off, I think all romance audiobooks should be narrated by the voice actors of the gender they are playing. It is tough to build the moments when a female narrator tries to deepen their voice to narrate the male character's line and just comes off as weird and comical.
This was like a short snippet or scene and was pretty funny. The author also had the male character repeat certain lines in spicy scenes.
Overall, it was all right. Although I don't think it was supposed to be as funny as I found it.

A Very good short erotic read about a librarian who get caught by the janitor.
Things gets very steamy in the library between the two of them and luke likes to b dominate and sara is a submissive and she does what he tells her.
The story is well written very explicit in some places in the book and I like the way the luke tells her not to keep putting herself down and brings out her confidence.
Also there is a epilogue at the end of the book.
This is the first time I have read this Author book and look forward to reading more and the next in the series

Reading this book recommended 18+.

This is a quick and spicy listen about a curvy, lonely, unknowingly submissive librarian and the sexually dominate, co-owner of a successful janitorial service who is forced to jump in and take a few night shifts at the library to cover the lack of employees due to his rapidly growing business. He is very aware of her as she is of him, and their first encounter is the stuff of most erotic fantasies. For a short story format, this was a fun little romp. I was offered a free copy from the author for an honest review.

This is a very spicy erotic short read. Sara is a shy mousy librarian. She gets overlooked by everyone. She can’t say no and finds herself staring late to put up books. She starts to read an erotic book and becomes turned on.
Her self care is witnessed by the hot
Janitor.
Luke can’t believe his eyes. He is instantly taken in by the sight in front of him. He finds out Sara is very submissive and he can be very dominant.
This was pure erotica with a little plot. Is was enjoyable for the short read that it was meant to be.

The premise caught my attention, but the execution fell short (2 stars). I’m okay with books that are high on heat and low on plot, but this one felt like it was written by a high school boy in study hall. Some lines were just cringy. “…the anxious bugs in my stomach began to eat away at the lining…” Eew.

The narration be Ri Paige was the high point (4 stars) of the experience. Her voice is hot, and she does perfectly acceptable males voices. I’d listen to her again.

This is a short erotica story. It uses stereotypes to help build the imagination, a shy introverted librarian who is acting out her sexual fantasy is seen by the hot sexy janitor., who is really one of the business owners. This is a steamy short story, with a story line, in addition to the primary intent of erotica. The narrator did a good job. I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This story is a fast burn with spice and it makes no apologies for it. This is a quick read without the messy plot twists to trip you up. It is a straightforward story about attraction that burns bright and hot in a library near all the erotica novels, between the librarian and the owner of a cleaning company filling in for one of his janitors.

If you like insta-lust and hot quicky hook ups, this is the book you want to listen to.

This author admits that she writes novellas short on plot but long on heat. This one was even too hot for me. I usually love them spicy. Maybe it was my mood. But I had to tune some of this out. It was burning my eardrums. If you want an hour or two of jalapeño heat... You're there.
Ri Paige is a wonderful narrator. Her voices are all believable. Male and female. She plows through the spice without flinching and with alot of poise. 5 stars plus for her.
