This is a Light Hearted Christmas Romance story!! A Quick Read!
Lady Mary Dalton is a 23 year old spinster who is about to enter her 5th season. She has found no husband and her parents are set on her being betroth next season. Mary mother dresses her horribly and she is know as a bluestocking. But under all the drab is a beautiful women. I think she was to mouthy or outspoken for 1800. She could be rather insulting.

Dale the Duke of Carlton is best friend to Peter Mary's older brother. He is invited to stay with them for the Christmas festivities. Carlton notices Mary's odd dress right away. He also notices her big beautiful Green Eyes.

The story felt like the Christmas Holidays!! It was sensuous rather Hot. This is a Novella and not many sex scenes.

A Kiss of Mistletoe was a really good Novella!

________________________________

Mary employed Louise, now the Marchioness of Graham, as her companion since childhood. Mary was mentioned several times throughout A Midsummer Kiss, as was Dale, but it actually took me a bit to realize that these were the same characters as the first book in the series, just several months prior. That just didn't click for me and so at the start I was less invested in their story than I would have been had I realized I already knew them and had seen them happy together.

I really think that Kiss at Mistletoe was such a huge improvement over the first in the series. The plot was much more solid and it flowed nicely. I was more invested in the outcome than I was in the last, plus I genuinely like both the two main characters. Not love at first, but a gradual growing attraction between the two.

The shallowness of these characters to not notice that Mary was a beautiful and engaging young woman before she changed the style of both her dresses and hair annoyed me though. Like in one of those 90's rom-coms where the nerdy girl takes off her glasses and all of a sudden she somehow became a goddess even though she was pretty from the start and her personality hasn't changed one iota. Another thing that got to me a bit was his conviction that she wasn't the woman for him because he doesn't find her demure and biddable enough to be a suitable wife for him. I understand his parents had a volatile marriage, but the solution shouldn't be a young bride who lives in fear of him and so obeys his every word. What's more important is how well they get along.

This book could have done with another edit, there are many typos for so short a book. But A Kiss at Mistletoe has improved my opinion of the series thus far and so I will be continuing to read the remaining two books. If you are looking for a quick and engaging read, these books are perfect as they are quite short.

Rural England Nov.- Dec 1800.

Dale the Duke was best friends w/ Peter the Viscount.
Whose folks hosted a house party into the holidays.
Peter had an unconventional sis Lady Mary who valued
the outdoors IE ice fishing.

The H + h had a 'cute meet' she was frumpy with un-
flattering clothes ( ribbons/ bows/ lace) & hairstyle.
But underneath she was a stunning beauty- natch.
She coveted another (obnoxious) man-sort of.

Mary started out feisty, then sweet + naïve, then too
blunt toward the H in her words/ actions. Who was
she really? Was she ready for a relationship? This
story was missing something. The author depicted
the H as swoon-worthy, but could he see beyond
Mary's pretty package and lush figure?

My review

Do they have a future when one refuses to change for the marriage part and the other wants a demure bride...

I am often a little long to remember about characters from previous books, then the lady’s companion’s name clicked in my head.
So even if this book is the second in the series, the romance in this one occurred before the first book.
I liked both Mary and Carlton, they have their own expectations about their upcoming bride and groom, and each is very faraway for the other.
So when Mary finds herself back to the wall, she at first fights against her parents will, until with some counsels, she decides to follow the lead and by being herself, see if she can attract some suitable lords with the same expectations as hers.
Carlton is living the life of many peers with its excesses, and even if it is not yet in his agenda, he already has listed all the qualities his future duchess might require and Lady Mary is quite the opposite of his bride-to-be.
But projections and reality do not always meet.
And chemistry can derail everything too.
None of them were looking for love in the other, but they were ready to see where their attraction may lead them.

I loved this was no love at first sight nor lust that weakens the knees or migrates the brain between the legs story, they are drawn to one another, but they still are able to make their own choices, and when the context forces them together, there is no insta-revelation of an ever lasting love.
One more hit by the talented Tamara Gill.

Lady Mary Dalton disliked balls and all that went with living in London. She much preferred the outdoors and enjoyed activities that weren’t considered feminine at the time. At the age of twenty three, her parents thought it was time for her to marry. At their Christmas houseparty , they invited eligible suitors. Dale Ramsey, Duke of Carlton is a rake and hasn’t given any thought to marriage. He is there as a friend of Mary’s brother. Mary certainly doesn’t fit the type of demur, obedient duchess he is looking for! This was an entertaining read of how Mary and Dale got to know each other. Could their attraction to each other develop into anything deeper? I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I found this a really good book. Mary is a great character. She doesn't conform to polite society she prefers the outdoors, fishing and rock climbing. She only wants to marry for love but the Duke of Carlton doesn't think she will be the right type of wife for him until she changes his mind.

Lady Mary Dalton likes the outdoors, fish and all sorts of things she shouldn't be doing. She's almost 23 and her father wants her married by the following year. The family's annual Mistletoe Ball will be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce her to Society and find her a suitable match. Mary doesn't want to go to London, she loves Derbyshire and doesn't want to leave. She really doesn't want to get married either; would her husband let her do what she likes? She hadn't expected to meet anyone, but her brother Peter's friend Dale Ramsay, the Duke of Carlton, is most tempting. But he doesn't want to get married either. Besides, he's a rake, not husband material.

A KISS AT MISTLETOE is such a fun novella! A rake, a wallflower, and a best friend's little sister; you think you know how it will go? Think again! There are plenty of unexpected twists, the best is probably Mary's clothing. You see, Mary is very unfashionable, and this was handled in a very clever, and amusing manner. I loved how the romance evolved; Dale was a rake, but a really great guy, and at one point, I shouted: "Yes!". He made me so happy!

Mary is a real bluestocking; she knows what she wants and goes after it. I think what I liked best is that both characters remained true to themselves to the very end. Both had valid reasons not to want to get married, and where there might have been a disastrous misunderstanding, I loved how both characters reacted, and that Mary is willing to listen and trust. Mary and Dale are both very engaging, I loved how they interacted with each other, and how deliciously flirtatious they both were. The atmosphere crackles with sexual tension. The secondary characters were also quite interesting and well developed. A KISS AT MISTLETOE is positively delightful from the beginning to the gorgeous epilogue!

Lady Mary Lancaster fills her time with anything she pleases and she loves spending time outside, fishing, riding & even rock climbing. Lady Mary is perfectly content to remain in Derbyshire for the rest of her days. However, Mary's parents have other ideas.
For the Christmas festivities at Bran Manor, Mary's brother brings home Dale the Duke of Carlton, an infamous man known for his many improprieties, as well as for his distaste in matrimony.
Another engrossing well written read from the author, which I read in a sitting. I loved how Mary transformed from the ugly duckling dressed as a young girl complete with flounces & ribbons to a stunning lady who realised she needn’t be a wallflower. Carlton didn't have a happy childhood & eventually wants a docile biddable wife! Mary is anything but biddable, however the attraction between the pair grows & grows & they can’t seem to keep away from each other. A lovely romance that I thoroughly enjoyed & I look forward to more in the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Lady Mary Dalton definitely marches to her own drumbeat! She doesn't care about prevailing conventions and prefers instead to follow outdoor pursuits that make her family despair of her. Faced with the news that she will be attending the upcoming season, Mary sets out demands of her own, which her father agrees to. However, there is still the Mistletoe Ball to get through, to which her ever hopeful mother has invited a number of eligible bachelors. Dale Ramsay, the Duke of Carlton has no intention of finding a bride for some time yet and when he does, he has vowed that she will be a quiet and biddable young miss, not one to stir up arguments or state her own opinion. His first sight of Mary appalls him, but then he gets to know her and realises that under her unfashionable gowns and behind her spectacles, there is an intelligent and intriguing young woman. As Mary turns to Dale more and more for advice on selecting a suitable groom, he discovers that he really does not like the idea of her marrying any one of the prospects and instead becomes very protective of her. This is an enjoyable Regency romance with lovable characters that had me rooting for them. The story is well written and although fairly short, it does have all the elements of a lighthearted romance. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Confused me a bit as Mary and Dale turned up in book 1 already married. It's a reasonable story, Mary likes the outdoors and doesn't really see any advantage in getting married. Dale is against marriage and is quite happy leading his rakish ways. It's only when he sees Mary flirting with a Dandy who has a reputation for ruining debutantes that he steps in.

Just when you think you know exactly what you don't want, fate seems to step him and blow a surprise your way!
At least for Lady Mary, she had decided she did not want to marry because it would put strictures on her behavior. Not being able to do exactly as she wanted, like being outdoors fishing when it was freezing and just not be in the house, but enjoy the wonderful outdoors. Her mother's motto seemed to be "Women should be wives, should have husbands, should have children, she should be married by now...." paraphrased but you get the picture. She really did not want to go to London for another season.
But meanwhile at their home in Derbyshire, her brother Peter brought home Dale, the Duke of Carlton. When he met Mary he could not believe how bold she was in her speech and could not seem to take his eyes off her.
So the fun begins... Mary decides there is a man perfect for her and after a small mishap and a talk with Dale, of all people, gives her advice, she sets out to win him.
Dale was bemused by Mary and after he had gave her advice he set back to watch. But wait... The new and improved who adjusted her clothing and hair makes an appearance, she has every gentleman's eyes on her.. Dale just may have to pursue her himself!
Loved this story and as usual I smiled and sighed as I turned the pages and could not wait to find out what happened!! Absolutely perfect and cannot wait for the next in this series!!

This series just keeps getting better!

Lady Mary Dalton, daughter of the Earl of Lancaster, would prefer not to marry but her parents have other ideas. She enjoys fishing, swimming, and is very outspoken. So this Christmas is her last time to enjoy the freedoms she has in the countryside before she has to go back to London for the season to find a husband. Her brother brings home his friend Dale, the Duke of Carlton, for Christmas. He is known around London for his rakish reputation. The two of them literally run into and fall for each other. They become quite good friends and find it very easy to talk to one another without censoring what they say. Mary and Dale have a sizzling chemistry. He tries to stay away from his friend’s sister and she feels like he is way out of her league.

Falling in love with a sibling’s best friend is one of my all-time favorite tropes. I really loved this book. It drew me in and I read it within a few hours. It was one of those stories where I couldn’t wait to learn more and then I hated when it was over. Looking forward to the next in this series! I received an ARC of this book and chose to post a review.

Staying away from marriage is no longer a problem for either of them.
Their attraction is undeniable so instead of staying apart they can't seem to get enough of each other.
This novella is written in one of my favorite tropes, best friend's sister love and attraction. It is the second book in the Kiss the Wallflower series and so far my favorite of the two.
I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization. This one has it's spicy moments but not so graphic that it's distasteful.
I received a complimentary copy of this book to read. I also ordered a copy in advance of the release.
This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

A Kiss at Mistletoe by Tamara Gill is book Two in the Kiss the Wallflower Series. This is the story of Mary Dalton and Dale Ramsey, the Duke of Carlton. I had read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book. Mary has wished to stay away from marriage and has met that goal each time she had to do the marriage mart. But this up and coming season her parents have insisted that she become settled into marriage. So she just has these last few months before the new season is to to start. A Christmas ball is planned until then which she hopes to enjoy. Then her brother brings home his best friend Dale and they both have a instant attraction to each other. But Dale is a rake and when he does settle down he was a wife that will hear to him and not the outspoken women that Mary is. Enjoyed reading how these two made their story. I hope to read more from this author soon!

My worst pet peeve

I just can’t take it when writers chose to write ‘historic’ romances, yet use contemporary language, situations, and ideas.
If you don’t want to go to the trouble of researching...anything at all about the time period, language, customs, or anything else related to your story-why not just write a contemporary story in the first place?
That way, you can employ all your feminist thoughts, your political opinions, and your lack of historic language knowledge, and no one will bat an eye.
I truly love well-written historic romances. This one does not qualify.
The best thing I can say, is ‘Thank you, Kindle Unlimited. Without you, I would have actually had to pay for this...well, for this.’

You know it was a good book when you read the last lines and give a huge sigh with a stupid grin on your face:) I loved everything about this book and Tamara Gill did an excellent job of writing Mary and Dale's story.

Mary is the type of heroine I love, stubborn, not afraid of being honest and is true to herself no matter what others think. She has no intention of changing who she is!! Dale is the handsome Duke who is looking for a demure wife but when he meets Mary, all his plans go out the window, much to his dismay:) The chemistry between them is hot, hot, hot!!! Having it all taking place at Christmas time makes it, in my eyes, perfect!

I absolutely recommend this book!!

This story is so very charming. A Kiss at Mistletoe by Tamara Gill is book 2 in the Kiss the Wallflower series. Tamara is such an amazing author and she never seems to disappoint. Her characters are lovable and the story is creative and original. I am truly enjoying this series. This story has an house party, misunderstanding, a brother’s protectiveness, a scandal, ice fishing, parents forcing a marriage, ugly dresses, jealousy and a forbidden love. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed this read. I liked Mary and Dale. Watching these two get to know one another and the slow evolution of their relationship was very entertaining and honestly, refreshing. I found it quite fun and sweet that they were both so sure of what they wanted, until they met and then after getting to know each other they began to realise they might want something entirely different. I thought that this was a really wonderful romance.

4.5 STARS

I purchased this as part of a 3 book bundle the author offered called KISS THE WALLFLOWER: Books 1-3.

I enjoyed the h being a spitfire and liking things a lady of the Ton should not. She has had 5 Seasons and sees no reason for her to give up her life. She loves to fish, hunt and climb rocks. When she realizes her parents will be making her find a husband the next Season, she changes her tactics. Instead of looking dorky, she changes her clothes and hair style and suddenly becomes a hit at her parents holiday party. She wants to be the one to choose a husband, even though she prefers to remain a spinster.
There really isn't much on Christmas spirit in this story, other than Mistletoe being hung around the house.

The H is a Duke, loves his life and doesn't want to marry for sometime down the road. The honesty of the h takes him by surprise and so the romance builds slowly without either of them realizing it. He feels protective of her and at first only wants to keep a certain Rake from her.

There is lovemaking, outside of marriage and a few other things, heat level 4 out of 5. I felt a connection to this couple so it was filled with passion.

I do agree with others, that the actions and speech seemed more modern to me, but I still enjoyed the story line.

Loved the epilogue a few months down the road and we discover they really do love each other and have settled into a comfortable life. One of my favorite parts was before the wedding, she wants him to know she will not tolerate him having affairs. I dislike when an h just accepts things or holds them in her heart without discussing what she would or would not tolerate.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and spice. (ljb)

Book 2 in this series takes place chronologically before book 1, but since both are standalones it doesn’t really matter that much. Lady Mary, the heroine, is truly an original. She loves the outdoors, and physical pursuits that society young ladies just don’t take part in. She’s perfectly happy to be unmarried and live her life in the country. Her loving parents are set on her finding a husband at last. Her family hosts an annual Ball, and it is decided that will be her re-introduction to the marriage mart before the start of the next social season in London. Mary is decidedly unfashionable, and her mother outfits her like a woman more than twice her age, which definitely doesn’t help. There is a bit of the ‘My Fair Lady’ enchantment in this story when Mary put some effort into her appearance and shocks everybody around her.

Mary’s brother brings his friend Dale, the Duke of Carlton, home with him for the holiday. Dale has been enjoying his life and the indulgent pursuits afforded him as a wealthy young aristocrat. He is a good guy but he has no intention of getting married anytime soon. He is fascinated by Mary though, even though he can’t quite figure out why. She is his best friend’s little sister, which should automatically make him stay far away from her – but the chemistry between them keeps pulling them closer together.

I thought this story was fast-paced and very engaging. Mary and Dale had creative interactions and both were likable characters. When they ended up getting together, they respected one another enough that neither expected the other to fundamentally change. I really liked that he accepted her for all that made her special. The HEA is well-done, and the book definitely left me in a good mood,

Lady Mary was far from your typical pampered lady. She loved the rugged outdoors in Derbyshire. The ice fishing, hunting, rock climbing, riding. She didn't even mind the biting cold weather. She was a bit of a bluestocking and was in no hurry to marry. In truth, she had no desire to marry at all. She had her own wealth and saw no need for a husband.
Lord Carlton was a very desirable bachelor. He had no desire to marry. His parents marriage had been toxic with constant fighting and he certainly didn't want a repeat in his life. His best friend Peter invited him to Derbyshire for the Christmas season and the annual Mistletoe ball.
There Lord Carlton meets Lady Mary who has been out for five seasons and yet has not found a husband. She is considering her neighbor a infamous take commonly known as Lord Poppinjay for his vanity. His property ajoins Lady Mary 's parents so she will remain in Derbyshire and continue with a lifestyle she knows and loves. The problem is he will break her heart and never be faithful. Lord Carlton sets out to prevent the match. In the process, he develops a tender for Lady Mary. He finds her sexually attractive and unspoiled. Very tempting.

This book was kind of meh to me. Chronologically it's the first book not the second.

The biggest problem for me was the heroine. She's just all over the place, very inconsistent. In one scene she talks about how she actively discouraged any man during her seasons, then in another she's whining about how no man wants her, then in another men are literally vying for her attention. Her personality constantly changed, she'd go from confident and feisty to insecure and introverted and back again. I got whiplash from all 180° changes she underwent. Under it all she was selfish. The resolution is all her forcing the hero to accept her selfish desires with no attempt from her to accede to any desires he may have. I get it, you don't want to be told what to do, but in real relationships compromise is important. You don't always get everything you want. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

Delightful

What a delightful historical romance! There aren’t a lot of true historical elements, so if your a historian looking for all the era appropriate references, this probably isn’t meaty enough for you. However, for me, it checked all the boxes. I also love that a misunderstanding was never allowed to fester. The H looked like he may have been dallying with a former lover and they cleared it up immediately. There was no imaging the worst and not talking it out for 6 chapters before the truth was revealed — so refreshing!

A tomboy Earl’s daughter with several unsuccessful seasons behind her, whose mother dresses her in outdated fashions, takes the bit between her teeth to reinvent herself when it finally sinks in that her family will not allow her to remain unwed. In doing so she captures the interest of her brother’s best friend, the rakish Duke of Carlton. But even should he be serious, will he want to cage her?

Lady Mary is just happy to do whatever she wants and she doesn't need a husband to tell her she is not allowed to do the things she likes. Mary meets her brother's friend Duke of Carlton and from the moment they meet each other they can't seem to stay away from each other. I loved their chemistry !!
They made me laugh and they were so comfortable with each other, therefore I really enjoyed this book more than the first one. It was very enjoyable to read this short and steamy romance !!
